Numbers 31

1 The Midianites are spoiled, and Balaam slain. 13 Moses is wroth with the officers for saving the women alive. 19 How the soldiers, with their captives and spoil, are to be purified. 25 The proportion whereby the prey is to be divided. 48 The voluntary oblation unto the treasury of the LORD.

 31:1 Then the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872, saying 559,

 31:2 “Take 5358 full 5360 vengeance 5360 for the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 on the Midianites 4084; afterward 310 you will be gathered 622 to your people 5971b.”

 31:3 Moses 4872 spoke 1696 to the people 5971a, saying 559, “Arm 2502b men 376 from among 854 you for the war 6635, that they may go 1961 against 5921 Midian 4080 to execute 5414 the LORD’S 3068 vengeance 5360 on Midian 4080.

 31:4 “A thousand 505 from each tribe 4294 of all 3605 the tribes 4294 of Israel 3478 you shall send 7971 to the war 6635.”

 31:5 So there were furnished 4560 from the thousands 505 of Israel 3478, a thousand 505 from each tribe 4294, twelve 8147 6240 thousand 505 armed 2502b for war 6635.

 31:6 Moses 4872 sent 7971 them, a thousand 505 from each tribe 4294, to the war 6635, and Phinehas 6372 the son 1121 of Eleazar 499 the priest 3548, to the war 6635 with them, and the holy 6944 vessels 3627 and the trumpets 2689 for the alarm 8643 in his hand 3027.

 31:7 So they made 6633 war 6633 against 5921 Midian 4080, just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 Moses 4872, and they killed 2026 every 3605 male 2145.

 31:8 They killed 2026 the kings 4428 of Midian 4080 along 5921 with the [rest of] their slain 2491a: Evi 189 and Rekem 7552 and Zur 6698 and Hur 2354 and Reba 7254, the five 2568 kings 4428 of Midian 4080; they also killed 2026 Balaam 1109a the son 1121 of Beor 1160 with the sword 2719.

 31:9 The sons 1121 of Israel 3478 captured 7617 the women 802 of Midian 4080 and their little 2945 ones 2945; and all 3605 their cattle 929 and all 3605 their flocks 4735 and all 3605 their goods 2428 they plundered 962.

 31:10 Then they burned 8313 all 3605 their cities 5892b where 4186 they lived 4186 and all 3605 their camps 2918 with fire 784.

 31:11 They took 3947 all 3605 the spoil 7998 and all 3605 the prey 4455a, both of man 120 and of beast 929.

 31:12 They brought 935 the captives 7628b and the prey 4455a and the spoil 7998 to Moses 4872, and to Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 and to the congregation 5712 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, to the camp 4264 at the plains 6160 of Moab 4124, which 834 are by the Jordan 3383 [opposite] Jericho 3405.

 31:13 ¶ Moses 4872 and Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 and all 3605 the leaders 5387a of the congregation 5712 went 3318 out to meet 7122 them outside 413 4480 2351 the camp 4264.

 31:14 Moses 4872 was angry 7107 with the officers 6485 of the army 2428, the captains 8269 of thousands 505 and the captains 8269 of hundreds 3967, who had come 935 from service 6635 in the war 4421.

 31:15 And Moses 4872 said 559 to them, “Have you spared 2421a all 3605 the women 5347?

 31:16 “Behold 2005, these 2007 caused 1961 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, through the counsel 1697 of Balaam 1109a, to trespass 4560 4604 against the LORD 3068 in the matter 1697 of Peor 6465, so the plague 4046 was among the congregation 5712 of the LORD 3068.

 31:17 “Now 6258 therefore, kill 2026 every 3605 male 2145 among the little 2945 ones 2945, and kill 2026 every 3605 woman 802 who has known 3045 man 376 intimately 4904 2145.

 31:18 “But all 3605 the girls 2945 802 who 834 have not known 3045 man 2145 intimately 4904 2145, spare 2421a for yourselves.

 31:19 “And you, camp 2583 outside 4480 2351 the camp 4264 seven 7651 days 3117; whoever 3605 has killed 2026 any person 5315 and whoever 3605 has touched 5060 any slain 2491a, purify 2398 yourselves, you and your captives 7628b, on the third 7992 day 3117 and on the seventh 7637 day 3117.

 31:20 “You shall purify 2398 for yourselves every 3605 garment 899b and every 3605 article 3627 of leather 5785 and all 3605 the work 4639 of goats’ 5795 [hair], and all 3605 articles 3627 of wood 6086.”

 31:21 ¶ Then Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 said 559 to the men 376 of war 6635 who had gone 935 to battle 4421, “This 2088 is the statute 2708 of the law 8451 which 834 the LORD 3068 has commanded 6680 Moses 4872:

 31:22 only 389 the gold 2091 and the silver 3701, the bronze 5178, the iron 1270, the tin 913 and the lead 5777,

 31:23 everything 3605 that can stand 935 the fire 784, you shall pass 5674a through 5674a the fire 784, and it shall be clean 2891, but it shall be purified 2398 with water 4325 for impurity 5079. But whatever 3605 834 cannot 3808 stand 935 the fire 784 you shall pass 5674a through 5674a the water 4325.

 31:24 “And you shall wash 3526 your clothes 899b on the seventh 7637 day 3117 and be clean 2891, and afterward 310 you may enter 935 the camp 4264.”

 31:25 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 spoke 559 to Moses 4872, saying 559,

 31:26 “You and Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 and the heads 7218 of the fathers’ 1 [households] of the congregation 5712 take 5375 a count 7218 of the booty 4455a that was captured 7628b, both of man 120 and of animal 929;

 31:27 and divide 2673 the booty 4455a between 996 the warriors 4421 who went 3318 out to battle 4421 and all 3605 the congregation 5712.

 31:28 “Levy 7311 a tax 4371 for the LORD 3068 from the men 376 of war 4421 who went 3318 out to battle 4421, one 259 in five 2568 hundred 3967 of the persons 120 and of the cattle 1241 and of the donkeys 2543 and of the sheep 6629;

 31:29 take 3947 it from their half 4276 and give 5414 it to Eleazar 499 the priest 3548, as an offering 8641 to the LORD 3068.

 31:30 “From the sons 1121 of Israel’s 3478 half 4276, you shall take 3947 one 259 drawn 270 out of every fifty 2572 of the persons 120, of the cattle 1241, of the donkeys 2543 and of the sheep 6629, from all 3605 the animals 929, and give 5414 them to the Levites 3881 who keep 8104 charge 4931 of the tabernacle 4908 of the LORD 3068.”

 31:31 Moses 4872 and Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 did 6213a just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 Moses 4872.

 31:32 ¶ Now the booty 4455a that remained 1961 3499a from the spoil 957 which 834 the men 5971a of war 6635 had plundered 962 was 675,000 8337a 3967 505 7657 505 2568 505 sheep 6629,

 31:33 and 72,000 8147 7657 505 cattle 1241,

 31:34 and 61,000 259 8346 505 donkeys 2543,

 31:35 and of human 120 beings 5315, of the women 802 who 834 had not known 3045 man 2145 intimately 4904 2145, all 3605 the persons 5315 were 32,000 8147 7970 505.

 31:36 ¶ The half 4275, the portion 2506 of those who went 3318 out to war 6635, was [as follows]: the number 4557 of sheep 6629 was 337,500 7969 3967 505 7970 505 7651 505 2568 3967,

 31:37 and the LORD’S 3068 levy 4371 of the sheep 6629 was 675 8337a 3967 2568 7657;

 31:38 and the cattle 1241 were 36,000 7970 8337a 505, from which the LORD’S 3068 levy 4371 was 72 8147 7657;

 31:39 and the donkeys 2543 were 30,500 7970 505 2568 3967, from which the LORD’S 3068 levy 4371 was 61 259 8346;

 31:40 and the human 120 beings 5315 were 16,000 8337a 6240 505, from whom the LORD’S 3068 levy 4371 was 32 8147 7970 persons 5315.

 31:41 Moses 4872 gave 5414 the levy 4371 [which was] the LORD’S 3068 offering 8641 to Eleazar 499 the priest 3548, just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 Moses 4872.

 31:42 ¶ As for the sons 1121 of Israel’s 3478 half 4276, which 834 Moses 4872 separated 2673 from the men 376 who had gone 6633 to war 6633—

 31:43 now the congregation’s 5712 half 4275 was 337,500 7969 3967 505 7970 505 7651 505 2568 3967 sheep 6629,

 31:44 and 36,000 8337a 7970 505 cattle 1241,

 31:45 and 30,500 7970 505 2568 3967 donkeys 2543,

 31:46 and the human 120 beings 5315 were 16,000 8337a 6240 505—

 31:47 and from the sons 1121 of Israel’s 3478 half 4276, Moses 4872 took 3947 one 259 drawn 270 out of every fifty 2572, both 4480 of man 120 and of animals 929, and gave 5414 them to the Levites 3881, who kept 8104 charge 4931 of the tabernacle 4908 of the LORD 3068, just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 Moses 4872.

 31:48 ¶ Then the officers 6485 who 834 were over the thousands 505 of the army 6635, the captains 8269 of thousands 505 and the captains 8269 of hundreds 3967, approached 7126 Moses 4872,

 31:49 and they said 559 to Moses 4872, “Your servants 5650 have taken 5375 a census 7218 of men 376 of war 4421 who 834 are in our charge 3027, and no 3808 man 376 of us is missing 6485.

 31:50 “So we have brought 7126 as an offering 7133a to the LORD 3068 what 834 each 376 man 376 found 4672, articles 3627 of gold 2091, armlets 685 and bracelets 6781a, signet 2885 rings 2885, earrings 5694 and necklaces 3558, to make 3722a atonement 3722a for ourselves 5315 before 6440 the LORD 3068.”

 31:51 Moses 4872 and Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 took 3947 the gold 2091 from them, all 3605 kinds of wrought 4639 articles 3627.

 31:52 All 3605 the gold 2091 of the offering 8641 which 834 they offered 7311 up to the LORD 3068, from the captains 8269 of thousands 505 and the captains 8269 of hundreds 3967, was 16,750 8337a 6240 505 7651 3967 2572 shekels 8255.

 31:53 The men 376 of war 6635 had taken 962 booty 962, every 376 man 376 for himself.

 31:54 So Moses 4872 and Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 took 3947 the gold 2091 from the captains 8269 of thousands 505 and of hundreds 3967, and brought 935 it to the tent 168 of meeting 4150 as a memorial 2146 for the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 before 6440 the LORD 3068.
