Numbers 14

1 The people murmur at the news. 6 Joshua and Caleb labour to still them. 11 God threateneth them. 13 Moses persuadeth God, and obtaineth pardon. 26 The murmurers are deprived of entering into the land. 36 The men who raised the evil report die by a plague. 40 The people that would invade the land against the will of God are smitten.

 14:1 Then all 3605 the congregation 5712 lifted 5375 up their voices 6963 and cried 5414, and the people 5971a wept 1058 that night 3915.

 14:2 All 3605 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 grumbled 3885b against 5921 Moses 4872 and Aaron 175; and the whole 3605 congregation 5712 said 559 to them, “Would 3863 that we had died 4191 in the land 776 of Egypt 4714! Or 176 would 3863 that we had died 4191 in this 2088 wilderness 4057b!

 14:3 “Why 4100 is the LORD 3068 bringing 935 us into this 2088 land 776, to fall 5307 by the sword 2719? Our wives 802 and our little 2945 ones 2945 will become 1961 plunder 957; would it not be better 2896a for us to return 7725 to Egypt 4714?”

 14:4 So they said 559 to one 376 another 251, “Let us appoint 5414 a leader 7218 and return 7725 to Egypt 4714.”

 14:5 ¶ Then Moses 4872 and Aaron 175 fell 5307 on their faces 6440 in the presence 6440 of all 3605 the assembly 6951 of the congregation 5712 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478.

 14:6 Joshua 3091 the son 1121 of Nun 5126 and Caleb 3612 the son 1121 of Jephunneh 3312, of those who had spied 8446 out the land 776, tore 7167 their clothes 899b;

 14:7 and they spoke 559 to all 3605 the congregation 5712 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, saying 559, “The land 776 which 834 we passed 5674a through 5674a to spy 8446 out is an exceedingly 3966 good 2896a land 776.

 14:8 “If 518 the LORD 3068 is pleased 2654a with us, then He will bring 935 us into this 2088 land 776 and give 5414 it to us—a land 776 which 834 flows 2100 with milk 2461 and honey 1706.

 14:9 “Only 389 do not rebel 4775 against the LORD 3068; and do not fear 3372a the people 5971a of the land 776, for they will be our prey 3899. Their protection 6738 has been removed 5493 from them, and the LORD 3068 is with us; do not fear 3372a them.”

 14:10 But all 3605 the congregation 5712 said 559 to stone 7275 them with stones 68. Then the glory 3519b of the LORD 3068 appeared 7200 in the tent 168 of meeting 4150 to all 3605 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478.

 14:11 ¶ The LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “How 575 long 5704 will this 2088 people 5971a spurn 5006 Me? And how 575 long 5704 will they not believe 539 in Me, despite all 3605 the signs 226 which 834 I have performed 6213a in their midst 7130?

 14:12 “I will smite 5221 them with pestilence 1698 and dispossess 3423 them, and I will make 6213a you into a nation 1471 greater 1419 and mightier 6099 than 4480 they.”

 14:13 ¶ But Moses 4872 said 559 to the LORD 3068, “Then the Egyptians 4714 will hear 8085 of it, for by Your strength 3581b You brought 5927 up this 2088 people 5971a from their midst 7130,

 14:14 and they will tell 559 [it] to the inhabitants 3427 of this 2088 land 776. They have heard 8085 that You, O LORD 3068, are in the midst 7130 of this 2088 people 5971a, for You, O LORD 3068, are seen 7200 eye 5869 to eye 5869, while Your cloud 6051 stands 5975 over 5921 them; and You go 1980 before 6440 them in a pillar 5982 of cloud 6051 by day 3119 and in a pillar 5982 of fire 784 by night 3915.

 14:15 “Now if You slay 5221 this 2088 people 5971a as one 259 man 376, then the nations 1471 who 834 have heard 8085 of Your fame 8088 will say 559,

 14:16 ‘Because 4480 the LORD 3068 could 3201 not bring 935 this 2088 people 5971a into the land 776 which 834 He promised 7650 them by oath 7650, therefore He slaughtered 7819 them in the wilderness 4057b.’

 14:17 “But now 6258, I pray 4994, let the power 3581b of the Lord 136 be great 1431, just 3512c as You have declared 1696 559,

 14:18 ‘The LORD 3068 is slow 750 to anger 639 and abundant 7227a in lovingkindness 2617a, forgiving 5375 iniquity 5771 and transgression 6588; but He will by no 3808 means 5352 clear 5352 [the guilty], visiting 6485 the iniquity 5771 of the fathers 1 on the children 1121 to the third 8029 and the fourth 7256 [generations].’

 14:19 “Pardon 5545, I pray 4994, the iniquity 5771 of this 2088 people 5971a according to the greatness 1433 of Your lovingkindness 2617a, just 3512c as You also have forgiven 5375 this 2088 people 5971a, from Egypt 4714 even until 5704 now 2008.”

 14:20 ¶ So the LORD 3068 said 559, “I have pardoned 5545 [them] according to your word 1697;

 14:21 but indeed 199, as I live 2416a, all 3605 the earth 776 will be filled 4390 with the glory 3519b of the LORD 3068.

 14:22 “Surely 3588 all 3605 the men 376 who have seen 7200 My glory 3519b and My signs 226 which 834 I performed 6213a in Egypt 4714 and in the wilderness 4057b, yet have put 5254 Me to the test 5254 these 2088 ten 6235 times 6471 and have not listened 8085 to My voice 6963,

 14:23 shall by no 518 means 518 see 7200 the land 776 which 834 I swore 7650 to their fathers 1, nor 3808 shall any 3605 of those who spurned 5006 Me see 7200 it.

 14:24 “But My servant 5650 Caleb 3612, because 6118 he has 5973 had 1961 a different 312 spirit 7307 and has followed 310 Me fully 4390, I will bring 935 into the land 776 which 834 he entered 935, and his descendants 2233 shall take 3423 possession 3423 of it.

 14:25 “Now the Amalekites 6003 and the Canaanites 3669a live 3427 in the valleys 6010; turn 6437 tomorrow 4279 and set 5265 out to the wilderness 4057b by the way 1870 of the Red 5488 3220 Sea 3220.”

 14:26 ¶ The LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872 and Aaron 175, saying 559,

 14:27 “How 4970 long 5704 4970 [shall I bear] with this 2088 evil 7451a congregation 5712 who 834 are grumbling 3885b against 5921 Me? I have heard 8085 the complaints 8519b of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, which 834 they are making 3885b against 5921 Me.

 14:28 “Say 559 to them, ‘As I live 2416a,’ says 5002 the LORD 3068, ‘just 3512c as you have spoken 1696 in My hearing 241, so 3651 I will surely do 6213a to you;

 14:29 your corpses 6297 will fall 5307 in this 2088 wilderness 4057b, even all 3605 your numbered 6485 men, according to your complete 3605 number 4557 from twenty 6242 years 8141 old 1121 and upward 4605, who 834 have grumbled 3885b against 5921 Me.

 14:30 ‘Surely 518 you shall not come 935 into the land 776 in which 834 I swore 5375 3027 to settle 7931 you, except 3588 518 Caleb 3612 the son 1121 of Jephunneh 3312 and Joshua 3091 the son 1121 of Nun 5126.

 14:31 ‘Your children 2945, however, whom 834 you said 559 would become 1961 a prey 957—I will bring 935 them in, and they will know 3045 the land 776 which 834 you have rejected 3988a.

 14:32 ‘But as for you, your corpses 6297 will fall 5307 in this 2088 wilderness 4057b.

 14:33 ‘Your sons 1121 shall be shepherds 7462a for forty 705 years 8141 in the wilderness 4057b, and they will suffer 5375 [for] your unfaithfulness 2184, until 5704 your corpses 6297 lie 8552 in the wilderness 4057b.

 14:34 ‘According to the number 4557 of days 3117 which 834 you spied 8446 out the land 776, forty 705 days 3117, for every 3117 day 3117 you shall bear 5375 your guilt 5771 a year 8141, [even] forty 705 years 8141, and you will know 3045 My opposition 8569.

 14:35 ‘I, the LORD 3068, have spoken 1696, surely 518 3808 this 2088 I will do 6213a to all 3605 this 2088 evil 7451a congregation 5712 who are gathered 3259 together against 5921 Me. In this 2088 wilderness 4057b they shall be destroyed 8552, and there 8033 they will die 4191.’”

 14:36 ¶ As for the men 376 whom 834 Moses 4872 sent 7971 to spy 8446 out the land 776 and who returned 7725 and made all 3605 the congregation 5712 grumble 3885b against 5921 him by bringing 3318 out a bad 1681 report 1681 concerning 5921 the land 776,

 14:37 even those men 376 who brought 3318 out the very bad 1681 7451a report 1681 of the land 776 died 4191 by a plague 4046 before 6440 the LORD 3068.

 14:38 But Joshua 3091 the son 1121 of Nun 5126 and Caleb 3612 the son 1121 of Jephunneh 3312 remained 2421a alive 2421a out of those 1992a men 376 who went 1980 to spy 8446 out the land 776.

 14:39 ¶ When Moses 4872 spoke 1696 these 428 words 1697 to all 3605 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, the people 5971a mourned 56 greatly 3966.

 14:40 In the morning 1242, however, they rose 7925 up early 7925 and went 5927 up to the ridge 7218 of the hill 2022 country 2022, saying 559, “Here 2009 we are; we have indeed 3588 sinned 2398, but we will go 5927 up to the place 4725 which 834 the LORD 3068 has promised 559.”

 14:41 But Moses 4872 said 559, “Why 4100 then 2088 are you transgressing 5674a the commandment 6310 of the LORD 3068, when it will not succeed 6743b?

 14:42 “Do not go 5927 up, or 3808 you will be struck 5062 down 5062 before 6440 your enemies 340, for the LORD 3068 is not among 7130 you.

 14:43 “For the Amalekites 6003 and the Canaanites 3669a will be there 8033 in front 6440 of you, and you will fall 5307 by the sword 2719, inasmuch 3588 5921 3651 as you have turned 7725 back 7725 from following 310 the LORD 3068. And the LORD 3068 will not be with you.”

 14:44 But they went 5927 up heedlessly 6075b to the ridge 7218 of the hill 2022 country 2022; neither 3808 the ark 727 of the covenant 1285 of the LORD 3068 nor 3808 Moses 4872 left 4185 the camp 4264.

 14:45 Then the Amalekites 6003 and the Canaanites 3669a who lived 3427 in that hill 2022 country 2022 came 3381 down 3381, and struck 5221 them and beat 3807 them down 3807 as far 5704 as Hormah 2767.
