1 The daughters of Zelophehad sue for an inheritance. 6 The law of inheritances. 12 Moses, being told of his death, sueth for a successor. 18 Joshua is appointed to succeed him.
27:1
Then the daughters 1323 of Zelophehad 6765, the son 1121 of Hepher 2660a, the son 1121 of Gilead 1568, the son 1121 of Machir 4353, the son 1121 of Manasseh 4519, of the families 4940 of Manasseh 4519 the son 1121 of Joseph 3130, came 7126 near 7126; and these 428 are the names 8034 of his daughters 1323: Mahlah 4244, Noah 5270 and Hoglah 2295 and Milcah 4435 and Tirzah 8656.
27:2
They stood 5975 before 6440 Moses 4872 and before 6440 Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 and before 6440 the leaders 5387a and all 3605 the congregation 5712, at the doorway 6607 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150, saying 559,
27:3
“Our father 1 died 4191 in the wilderness 4057b, yet he was not among 8432 the company 5712 of those who gathered 3259 themselves together against 5921 the LORD 3068 in the company 5712 of Korah 7141; but he died 4191 in his own sin 2399, and he had 1961 no 3808 sons 1121.
27:4
“Why 4100 should the name 8034 of our father 1 be withdrawn 1639 from among 8432 his family 4940 because 3588 he had 369 no 369 son 1121? Give 5414 us a possession 272 among 8432 our father’s 1 brothers 251.”
27:5
So Moses 4872 brought 7126 their case 4941 before 6440 the LORD 3068.
27:6
¶ Then the LORD 3068 spoke 559 to Moses 4872, saying 559,
27:7
“The daughters 1323 of Zelophehad 6765 are right 3653a in [their] statements 1696. You shall surely 5414 give 5414 them a hereditary 5159 possession 272 among 8432 their father’s 1 brothers 251, and you shall transfer 5674a the inheritance 5159 of their father 1 to them.
27:8
“Further, you shall speak 1696 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, saying 559, ‘If 3588 a man 376 dies 4191 and has 369 no 369 son 1121, then you shall transfer 5674a his inheritance 5159 to his daughter 1323.
27:9
‘If 518 he has 369 no 369 daughter 1323, then you shall give 5414 his inheritance 5159 to his brothers 251.
27:10
‘If 518 he has 369 no 369 brothers 251, then you shall give 5414 his inheritance 5159 to his father’s 1 brothers 251.
27:11
‘If 518 his father 1 has 369 no 369 brothers 251, then you shall give 5414 his inheritance 5159 to his nearest 7138 relative 7607 in his own family 4940, and he shall possess 3423 it; and it shall be a statutory 2708 ordinance 4941 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, just 3512c as the LORD 3068 commanded 6680 Moses 4872.’”
27:12
¶ Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “Go 5927 up to this 2088 mountain 2022 of Abarim 5682, and see 7200 the land 776 which 834 I have given 5414 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478.
27:13
“When you have seen 7200 it, you too 1571 will be gathered 622 to your people 5971b, as Aaron 175 your brother 251 was;
27:14
for in the wilderness 4057b of Zin 6790, during the strife 4808 of the congregation 5712, you rebelled 4784 against 854 My command 6310 to treat 6942 Me as holy 6942 before 6440 their eyes 5869 at the water 4325.” (These 1992a are the waters 4325 of Meribah 4809 of Kadesh 6946 in the wilderness 4057b of Zin 6790.)
27:15
¶ Then Moses 4872 spoke 1696 to the LORD 3068, saying 559,
27:16
“May the LORD 3068, the God 430 of the spirits 7307 of all 3605 flesh 1320, appoint 6485 a man 376 over 5921 the congregation 5712,
27:17
who 834 will go 3318 out and come 935 in before 6440 them, and who 834 will lead 3318 them out and bring 935 them in, so that the congregation 5712 of the LORD 3068 will not be like sheep 6629 which 834 have 369 no 369 shepherd 7462a.”
27:18
So the LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “Take 3947 Joshua 3091 the son 1121 of Nun 5126, a man 376 in whom 834 is the Spirit 7307, and lay 5564 your hand 3027 on him;
27:19
and have him stand 5975 before 6440 Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 and before 6440 all 3605 the congregation 5712, and commission 6680 him in their sight 5869.
27:20
“You shall put 5414 some 4480 of your authority 1935 on him, in order 4616 that all 3605 the congregation 5712 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 may obey 8085 [him].
27:21
“Moreover, he shall stand 5975 before 6440 Eleazar 499 the priest 3548, who shall inquire 7592 for him by the judgment 4941 of the Urim 224 before 6440 the LORD 3068. At his command 6310 they shall go 3318 out and at his command 6310 they shall come 935 in, [both] he and the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 with him, even all 3605 the congregation 5712.”
27:22
Moses 4872 did 6213a just 3512c as the LORD 3068 commanded 6680 him; and he took 3947 Joshua 3091 and set 5975 him before 6440 Eleazar 499 the priest 3548 and before 6440 all 3605 the congregation 5712.
27:23
Then he laid 5564 his hands 3027 on him and commissioned 6680 him, just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had spoken 1696 through 3027 Moses 4872.
