Numbers 35

1 Eight and forty cities for the Levites with their suburbs, and measure thereof. 6 Six of them are to be cities of refuge. 9 The laws of murder. 31 No satisfaction for murder.

 35:1 Now the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872 in the plains 6160 of Moab 4124 by the Jordan 3383 [opposite] Jericho 3405, saying 559,

 35:2 “Command 6680 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 that they give 5414 to the Levites 3881 from the inheritance 5159 of their possession 272 cities 5892b to live 3427 in; and you shall give 5414 to the Levites 3881 pasture 4054 lands 4054 around 5439 the cities 5892b.

 35:3 “The cities 5892b shall be theirs 1992a to live 3427 in; and their pasture 4054 lands 4054 shall be for their cattle 929 and for their herds 7399 and for all 3605 their beasts 2421b.

 35:4 ¶ “The pasture 4054 lands 4054 of the cities 5892b which 834 you shall give 5414 to the Levites 3881 [shall extend] from the wall 7023 of the city 5892b outward 2351 a thousand 505 cubits 520 around 5439.

 35:5 “You shall also measure 4058 outside 4480 2351 the city 5892b on the east 6924b side 6285 two thousand 505 cubits 520, and on the south 5045 side 6285 two thousand 505 cubits 520, and on the west 3220 side 6285 two thousand 505 cubits 520, and on the north 6828 side 6285 two thousand 505 cubits 520, with the city 5892b in the center 8432. This 2088 shall become 1961 theirs 1992a as pasture 4054 lands 4054 for the cities 5892b.

 35:6 “The cities 5892b which 834 you shall give 5414 to the Levites 3881 [shall be] the six 8337a cities 5892b of refuge 4733, which 834 you shall give 5414 for the manslayer 7523 to flee 5127 to; and in addition 5921 to them you shall give 5414 forty-two 705 8147 cities 5892b.

 35:7 “All 3605 the cities 5892b which 834 you shall give 5414 to the Levites 3881 [shall be] forty-eight 705 8083 cities 5892b, together with their pasture 4054 lands 4054.

 35:8 “As for the cities 5892b which 834 you shall give 5414 from the possession 272 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, you shall take 7235a more 7235a from the larger 7227a and you shall take 4591 less 4591 from the smaller 4592; each 376 shall give 5414 some 4480 of his cities 5892b to the Levites 3881 in proportion 6310 to his possession 5159 which 834 he inherits 5157.”

 35:9 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872, saying 559,

 35:10 “Speak 1696 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 and say 559 to them, ‘When 3588 you cross 5674a the Jordan 3383 into the land 776 of Canaan 3667a,

 35:11 then you shall select 7136a for yourselves cities 5892b to be your cities 5892b of refuge 4733, that the manslayer 7523 who has killed 5221 any person 5315 unintentionally 7684 may flee 5127 there 8033.

 35:12 ‘The cities 5892b shall be to you as a refuge 4733 from the avenger 1350, so that the manslayer 7523 will not die 4191 until 5704 he stands 5975 before 6440 the congregation 5712 for trial 4941.

 35:13 ‘The cities 5892b which 834 you are to give 5414 shall be your six 8337a cities 5892b of refuge 4733.

 35:14 ‘You shall give 5414 three 7969 cities 5892b across 4480 5676 the Jordan 3383 and three 7969 cities 5892b in the land 776 of Canaan 3667a; they are to be cities 5892b of refuge 4733.

 35:15 ‘These 428 six 8337a cities 5892b shall be for refuge 4733 for the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, and for the alien 1616 and for the sojourner 8453 among 8432 them; that anyone 3605 who kills 5221 a person 5315 unintentionally 7684 may flee 5127 there 8033.

 35:16 ¶ ‘But if 518 he struck 5221 him down 5221 with an iron 1270 object 3627, so that he died 4191, he is a murderer 7523; the murderer 7523 shall surely 4191 be put 4191 to death 4191.

 35:17 ‘If 518 he struck 5221 him down 5221 with a stone 68 in the hand 3027, by which 834 he will die 4191, and [as a result] he died 4191, he is a murderer 7523; the murderer 7523 shall surely 4191 be put 4191 to death 4191.

 35:18 ‘Or 176 if he struck 5221 him with a wooden 6086 object 3627 in the hand 3027, by which 834 he might die 4191, and [as a result] he died 4191, he is a murderer 7523; the murderer 7523 shall surely 4191 be put 4191 to death 4191.

 35:19 ‘The blood 1818 avenger 1350 himself 1931 shall put 4191 the murderer 7523 to death 4191; he shall put 4191 him to death 4191 when he meets 6293 him.

 35:20 ‘If 518 he pushed 1920 him of hatred 8135, or 176 threw 7993 something at him lying 6660 in wait 6660 and [as a result] he died 4191,

 35:21 or 176 if he struck 5221 him down 5221 with his hand 3027 in enmity 342, and [as a result] he died 4191, the one who struck 5221 him shall surely 4191 be put 4191 to death 4191, he is a murderer 7523; the blood 1818 avenger 1350 shall put 4191 the murderer 7523 to death 4191 when he meets 6293 him.

 35:22 ¶ ‘But if 518 he pushed 1920 him suddenly 6621 without 3808 enmity 342, or 176 threw 7993 something 3605 3627 at him without 3808 lying 6660 in wait 6660,

 35:23 or 176 with any 3605 deadly 834 4191 object of stone 68, and without 3808 seeing 7200 it dropped 5307 on him so that he died 4191, while he was not his enemy 340 nor 3808 seeking 1245 his injury 7463a,

 35:24 then the congregation 5712 shall judge 8199 between 996 the slayer 5221 and the blood 1818 avenger 1350 according 5921 to these 428 ordinances 4941.

 35:25 ‘The congregation 5712 shall deliver 5337 the manslayer 7523 from the hand 3027 of the blood 1818 avenger 1350, and the congregation 5712 shall restore 7725 him to his city 5892b of refuge 4733 to which 834 he fled 5127; and he shall live 3427 in it until 5704 the death 4194 of the high 1419 priest 3548 who 834 was anointed 4886 with the holy 6944 oil 8081.

 35:26 ‘But if 518 the manslayer 7523 at any 3318 time 3318 goes 3318 beyond 3318 the border 1366 of his city 5892b of refuge 4733 to which 834 he may flee 5127,

 35:27 and the blood 1818 avenger 1350 finds 4672 him outside 4480 2351 the border 1366 of his city 5892b of refuge 4733, and the blood 1818 avenger 1350 kills 7523 the manslayer 7523, he will not be guilty of blood 1818

 35:28 because 3588 he should have remained 3427 in his city 5892b of refuge 4733 until 5704 the death 4194 of the high 1419 priest 3548. But after 310 the death 4194 of the high 1419 priest 3548 the manslayer 7523 shall return 7725 to the land 776 of his possession 272.

 35:29 ¶ ‘These 428 things 428 shall be for a statutory 2708 ordinance 4941 to you throughout your generations 1755 in all 3605 your dwellings 4186.

 35:30 ¶ ‘If anyone 3605 kills 5221 a person 5315, the murderer 7523 shall be put 7523 to death 7523 at the evidence 6310 of witnesses 5707, but no 3808 person 5315 shall be put 4191 to death 4191 on the testimony 6030a of one 259 witness 5707.

 35:31 ‘Moreover, you shall not take 3947 ransom 3724a for the life 5315 of a murderer 7523 who 834 is guilty 7563 of death 4191, but he shall surely 4191 be put 4191 to death 4191.

 35:32 ‘You shall not take 3947 ransom 3724a for him who has fled 5127 to his city 5892b of refuge 4733, that he may return 7725 to live 3427 in the land 776 before 5704 the death 4194 of the priest 3548.

 35:33 ‘So you shall not pollute 2610 the land 776 in which 834 you are; for blood 1818 pollutes 2610 the land 776 and no 3808 expiation 3722a can be made 3722a for the land 776 for the blood 1818 that is shed 8210 on it, except 3588 518 by the blood 1818 of him who shed 8210 it.

 35:34 ‘You shall not defile 2930 the land 776 in which 834 you live 3427, in the midst 8432 of which 834 I dwell 7931; for I the LORD 3068 am dwelling 7931 in the midst 8432 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478.’”
