2 Chronicles 35

1 Josiah keepeth a most solemn Passover. 20 He, provoking Pharaoh-necho, is slain at Megiddo. 25 Lamentations for Josiah.

 35:1 Then Josiah 2977 celebrated 6213a the Passover 6453 to the LORD 3068 in Jerusalem 3389, and they slaughtered 7819 the Passover 6453 [animals] on the fourteenth 702 6240 [day] of the first 7223 month 2320.

 35:2 He set 5975 the priests 3548 in their offices 4931 and encouraged 2388 them in the service 5656 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 35:3 He also said 559 to the Levites 3881 who taught 995 all 3605 Israel 3478 [and] who were holy 6918 to the LORD 3068, “Put 5414 the holy 6944 ark 727 in the house 1004 which 834 Solomon 8010 the son 1121 of David 1732 king 4428 of Israel 3478 built 1129; it will be a burden 4853a on [your] shoulders 3802 no 369 longer. Now 6258 serve 5647 the LORD 3068 your God 430 and His people 5971a Israel 3478.

 35:4 “Prepare 3559 [yourselves] by your fathers’ 1 households 1004 in your divisions 4256, according to the writing 3791 of David 1732 king 4428 of Israel 3478 and according to the writing 4385 of his son 1121 Solomon 8010.

 35:5 “Moreover, stand 5975 in the holy 6944 place according to the sections 6391 of the fathers’ 1 households 1004 of your brethren 251 the lay 1121 people 5971a, and according to the Levites 3881, by division 2515 of a father’s 1 household 1004.

 35:6 “Now slaughter 7819 the Passover 6453 [animals], sanctify 6942 yourselves and prepare 3559 for your brethren 251 to do 6213a according to the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 by Moses 4872.”

 35:7 ¶ Josiah 2977 contributed 7311 to the lay 1121 people 5971a, to all 3605 who were present 4672, flocks 6629 of lambs 3532 and young 1121 5795 goats 1121 5795, all 3605 for the Passover 6453 offerings 6453, numbering 4557 30,000 7970 505 plus 3,000 7969 505 bulls 1241; these 428 were from the king’s 4428 possessions 7399.

 35:8 His officers 8269 also contributed 7311 a freewill 5071 offering 5071 to the people 5971a, the priests 3548 and the Levites 3881. Hilkiah 2518 and Zechariah 2148a and Jehiel 3171, the officials 5057 of the house 1004 of God 430, gave 5414 to the priests 3548 for the Passover 6453 offerings 6453 2,600 505 8337a 3967 [from the flocks] and 300 7969 3967 bulls 1241.

 35:9 Conaniah 3562 also, and Shemaiah 8098 and Nethanel 5417, his brothers 251, and Hashabiah 2811 and Jeiel 3262 and Jozabad 3107, the officers 8269 of the Levites 3881, contributed 7311 to the Levites 3881 for the Passover 6453 offerings 6453 5,000 2568 505 [from the flocks] and 500 2568 3967 bulls 1241.

 35:10 ¶ So the service 5656 was prepared 3559, and the priests 3548 stood 5975 at their stations 5977 and the Levites 3881 by their divisions 4256 according to the king’s 4428 command 4687.

 35:11 They slaughtered 7819 the Passover 6453 [animals], and while the priests 3548 sprinkled 2236b the blood 1818 [received] from their hand 3027, the Levites 3881 skinned 6584 [them].

 35:12 Then they removed 5493 the burnt 5930a offerings 5930a that [they] might give 5414 them to the sections 4653 of the fathers’ 1 households 1004 of the lay 1121 people 5971a to present 7126 to the LORD 3068, as it is written 3789 in the book 5612 of Moses 4872. [They did] this 3651 also with the bulls 1241.

 35:13 So they roasted 1310 the Passover 6453 [animals] on the fire 784 according to the ordinance 4941, and they boiled 1310 the holy 6944 things 6944 in pots 5518a, in kettles 1731, in pans 6745, and carried 7323 [them] speedily 7323 to all 3605 the lay 1121 people 5971a.

 35:14 Afterwards 310 they prepared 3559 for themselves and for the priests 3548, because 3588 the priests 3548, the sons 1121 of Aaron 175, [were] offering 5927 the burnt 5930a offerings 5930a and the fat 2459 until 5704 night 3915; therefore the Levites 3881 prepared 3559 for themselves and for the priests 3548, the sons 1121 of Aaron 175.

 35:15 The singers 7891, the sons 1121 of Asaph 623, [were] also at their stations 4612 according to the command 4687 of David 1732, Asaph 623, Heman 1968, and Jeduthun 3038 the king’s 4428 seer 2374; and the gatekeepers 7778 at each 8179 gate 8179 did not have 369 to depart 5493 from their service 5656, because 3588 the Levites 3881 their brethren 251 prepared 3559 for them.

 35:16 ¶ So all 3605 the service 5656 of the LORD 3068 was prepared 3559 on that day 3117 to celebrate 6213a the Passover 6453, and to offer 5927 burnt 5930a offerings 5930a on the altar 4196 of the LORD 3068 according to the command 4687 of King 4428 Josiah 2977.

 35:17 Thus the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 who were present 4672 celebrated 6213a the Passover 6453 at that time 6256, and the Feast 2282 of Unleavened 4682 Bread 4682 seven 7651 days 3117.

 35:18 There had not been celebrated 6213a a Passover 6453 like 3644 it in Israel 3478 since 4480 the days 3117 of Samuel 8050 the prophet 5030; nor 3808 had any 3605 of the kings 4428 of Israel 3478 celebrated 6213a such a Passover 6453 as Josiah 2977 did 6213a with the priests 3548, the Levites 3881, all 3605 Judah 3063 and Israel 3478 who were present 4672, and the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389.

 35:19 In the eighteenth 8083 6240 year 8141 of Josiah’s 2977 reign 4438 this 2088 Passover 6453 was celebrated 6213a.

 35:20 ¶ After 310 all 3605 this 2088, when 834 Josiah 2977 had set 3559 the temple 1004 in order 3559, Neco 5224 king 4428 of Egypt 4714 came 5927 up to make 3898a war 3898a at Carchemish 3751 on the Euphrates 6578, and Josiah 2977 went 3318 out to engage 7122 him.

 35:21 But Neco sent 7971 messengers 4397 to him, saying 559, “What 4100 have we to do with each other, O King 4428 of Judah 3063? [I am] not [coming] against 5921 you today 3117 but against 413 the house 1004 with which I am at war 4421, and God 430 has ordered 559 me to hurry 926. Stop 2308 for your own sake from [interfering with] God 430 who 834 is with me, so 408 that He will not destroy 7843 you.”

 35:22 However, Josiah 2977 would not turn 5437 away 5437 from him, but disguised 2664 himself in order to make 3898a war 3898a with him; nor 3808 did he listen 8085 to the words 1697 of Neco 5224 from the mouth 6310 of God 430, but came 935 to make 3898a war 3898a on the plain 1237 of Megiddo 4023b.

 35:23 The archers 3384 shot 3384 King 4428 Josiah 2977, and the king 4428 said 559 to his servants 5650, “Take 5674a me away 5674a, for I am badly 3966 wounded 2470a.”

 35:24 So his servants 5650 took 5674a him out of the chariot 4818 and carried 7392 him in the second 4932 chariot 7393 which 834 he had, and brought 1980 him to Jerusalem 3389 where he died 4191 and was buried 6912 in the tombs 6913 of his fathers 1. All 3605 Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389 mourned 56 for Josiah 2977.

 35:25 Then Jeremiah 3414 chanted 6969 a lament 6969 for Josiah 2977. And all 3605 the male and female singers 7891 speak 559 about 5921 Josiah 2977 in their lamentations 7015 to this day 3117. And they made 5414 them an ordinance 2706 in Israel 3478; behold 2009, they are also written 3789 in the Lamentations 7015.

 35:26 Now the rest 3499a of the acts 1697 of Josiah 2977 and his deeds 2617a of devotion 2617a as written 3789 in the law 8451 of the LORD 3068,

 35:27 and his acts 1697, first 7223 to last 314, behold 2009, they are written 3789 in the Book 5612 of the Kings 4428 of Israel 3478 and Judah 3063.
