2 Chronicles 14

1 Asa succeeding destroyeth idolatry. 6 Having peace, he strengtheneth his kingdom with forts and armies. 9 Calling on God, he overthroweth Zerah, and spoileth the Ethiopians.

 14:1 So Abijah 29 slept 7901 with his fathers 1, and they buried 6912 him in the city 5892b of David 1732, and his son 1121 Asa 609 became 4427a king 4427a in his place 8478. The land 776 was undisturbed 8252 for ten 6235 years 8141 during his days 3117.

 14:2 ¶ Asa 609 did 6213a good 2896a and right 3477 in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068 his God 430,

 14:3 for he removed 5493 the foreign 5236 altars 4196 and high 1116 places 1116, tore 7665 down 7665 the [sacred] pillars 4676, cut 1438 down 1438 the Asherim 842,

 14:4 and commanded 559 Judah 3063 to seek 1875 the LORD 3068 God 430 of their fathers 1 and to observe 6213a the law 8451 and the commandment 4687.

 14:5 He also removed 5493 the high 1116 places 1116 and the incense 2553 altars 2553 from all 3605 the cities 5892b of Judah 3063. And the kingdom 4467 was undisturbed 8252 under 6440 him.

 14:6 He built 1129 fortified 4694 cities 5892b in Judah 3063, since 3588 the land 776 was undisturbed 8252, and there 369 was no 369 one 369 at war 4421 with him during those 428 years 8141, because 3588 the LORD 3068 had given 5117 him rest 5117.

 14:7 For he said 559 to Judah 3063, “Let us build 1129 these 428 cities 5892b and surround 5437 [them] with walls 2346 and towers 4026, gates 1817 and bars 1280. The land 776 is still 5750 ours 6440 because 3588 we have sought 1875 the LORD 3068 our God 430; we have sought 1875 Him, and He has given 5117 us rest 5117 on every 5439 side 5439.” So they built 1129 and prospered 6743b.

 14:8 Now Asa 609 had 1961 an army 2428 of 300,000 7969 3967 505 from Judah 3063, bearing 5375 large 6793c shields 6793c and spears 7420, and 280,000 3967 8084 505 from Benjamin 1144, bearing 5375 shields 4043 and wielding 1869 bows 7198; all 3605 of them were valiant 2428 warriors 1368.

 14:9 ¶ Now Zerah 2226 the Ethiopian 3569 came 3318 out against 413 them with an army 2428 of a million 505 men and 300 7969 3967 chariots 4818, and he came 935 to Mareshah 4762.

 14:10 So Asa 609 went 3318 out to meet 6440 him, and they drew 6186a up in battle 4421 formation 6186a in the valley 1516 of Zephathah 6859 at Mareshah 4762.

 14:11 Then Asa 609 called 7121 to the LORD 3068 his God 430 and said 559, “LORD 3068, there 369 is no 369 one 369 besides 5973 You to help 5826 [in the battle] between 996 the powerful 7227a and those who have 369 no 369 strength 3581b; so help 5826 us, O LORD 3068 our God 430, for we trust 8172 in You, and in Your name 8034 have come 935 against 5921 this 2088 multitude 1995. O LORD 3068, You are our God 430; let not man 582 prevail 6113 against 5973 You.”

 14:12 So the LORD 3068 routed 5062 the Ethiopians 3569 before 6440 Asa 609 and before 6440 Judah 3063, and the Ethiopians 3569 fled 5127.

 14:13 Asa 609 and the people 5971a who 834 [were] with him pursued 7291 them as far 5704 as Gerar 1642; and so many Ethiopians 3569 fell 5307 that they could not recover 4241, for they were shattered 7665 before 6440 the LORD 3068 and before 6440 His army 4264. And they carried 5375 away very 3966 much 7235a plunder 7998.

 14:14 They destroyed 5221 all 3605 the cities 5892b around 5439 Gerar 1642, for the dread 6343 of the LORD 3068 had fallen 1961 on them; and they despoiled 962 all 3605 the cities 5892b, for there was much 7227a plunder 961 in them.

 14:15 They also 1571 struck 5221 down 5221 those who owned 168 livestock 4735, and they carried 7617 away large 7230 numbers 7230 of sheep 6629 and camels 1581. Then they returned 7725 to Jerusalem 3389.
