2 Chronicles 20

1 Jehoshaphat in his fear proclaimeth a fast. 5 His prayer. 14 The prophecy of Jahaziel. 20 Jehoshaphat exhorteth the people, and setteth singers to praise the LORD. 22 The great overthrow of the enemies. 26 The people, having blessed God at Berachah, return in triumph. 31 Jehoshaphat's reign. 35 His convoy of ships, which he made with Ahaziah, according to the prophecy of Eliezer, unhappily perished.

 20:1 Now it came 1961 about after 310 this 3651 that the sons 1121 of Moab 4124 and the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983, together 5973 with some 4480 of the Meunites 4586, came 935 to make war 4421 against 5921 Jehoshaphat 3092.

 20:2 Then some came 935 and reported 5046 to Jehoshaphat 3092, saying 559, “A great 7227a multitude 1995 is coming 935 against 5921 you from beyond 5676 the sea 3220, out of Aram 758 and behold 2009, they are in Hazazon-tamar 2688 (that is Engedi 5872).”

 20:3 Jehoshaphat 3092 was afraid 3372a and turned 5414 his attention 6440 to seek 1875 the LORD 3068, and proclaimed 7121 a fast 6685 throughout 5921 all 3605 Judah 3063.

 20:4 So Judah 3063 gathered 6908 together to seek 1245 help from the LORD 3068; they even 1571 came 935 from all 3605 the cities 5892b of Judah 3063 to seek 1245 the LORD 3068.

 20:5 ¶ Then Jehoshaphat 3092 stood 5975 in the assembly 6951 of Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389, in the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 before 6440 the new 2319 court 2691a,

 20:6 and he said 559, “O LORD 3068, the God 430 of our fathers 1, are You not God 430 in the heavens 8064? And are You not ruler 4910 over 5921 all 3605 the kingdoms 4467 of the nations 1471? Power 3581b and might 1369 are in Your hand 3027 so that no 369 one 369 can stand 3320 against 5973 You.

 20:7 “Did You not, O our God 430, drive 3423 out the inhabitants 3427 of this 2088 land 776 before 4480 6440 Your people 5971a Israel 3478 and give 5414 it to the descendants 2233 of Abraham 85 Your friend 157 forever 5769?

 20:8 “They have lived 3427 in it, and have built 1129 You a sanctuary 4720 there for Your name 8034, saying 559,

 20:9 ‘Should 518 evil 7463a come 935 upon us, the sword 2719, [or] judgment 8196, or pestilence 1698, or famine 7458, we will stand 5975 before 6440 this 2088 house 1004 and before 6440 You (for Your name 8034 is in this 2088 house 1004) and cry 2199 to You in our distress 6869a, and You will hear 8085 and deliver 3467 [us].’

 20:10 “Now 6258 behold 2009, the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983 and Moab 4124 and Mount 2022 Seir 8165, whom 834 You did not let 5414 Israel 3478 invade 935 when they came 935 out of the land 776 of Egypt 4714 (they turned 5493 aside 5493 from them and did not destroy 8045 them),

 20:11 see 2009 [how] they are rewarding 1580 us by coming 935 to drive 1644 us out from Your possession 3425 which 834 You have given 3423 us as an inheritance 3423.

 20:12 “O our God 430, will You not judge 8199 them? For we are powerless 369 3581b before 6440 this 2088 great 7227a multitude 1995 who are coming 935 against 5921 us; nor 3808 do we know 3045 what 4100 to do 6213a, but our eyes 5869 are on You.”

 20:13 ¶ All 3605 Judah 3063 was standing 5975 before 6440 the LORD 3068, with their infants 2945, their wives 802 and their children 1121.

 20:14 Then in the midst 8432 of the assembly 6951 the Spirit 7307 of the LORD 3068 came 1961 upon Jahaziel 3166 the son 1121 of Zechariah 2148a, the son 1121 of Benaiah 1141, the son 1121 of Jeiel 3262, the son 1121 of Mattaniah 4983, the Levite 3881 of the sons 1121 of Asaph 623;

 20:15 and he said 559, “Listen 7181, all 3605 Judah 3063 and the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389 and King 4428 Jehoshaphat 3092: thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 to you, ‘Do not fear 3372a or be dismayed 2865 because 4480 6440 of this 2088 great 7227a multitude 1995, for the battle 4421 is not yours but God’s 430.

 20:16 ‘Tomorrow 4279 go 3381 down 3381 against 5921 them. Behold 2009, they will come 5927 up by the ascent 4608 of Ziz 6732, and you will find 4672 them at the end 5490 of the valley 5158a in front 6440 of the wilderness 4057b of Jeruel 3385b.

 20:17 ‘You [need] not fight 3898a in this 2088 [battle]; station 3320 yourselves, stand 5975 and see 7200 the salvation 3444 of the LORD 3068 on your behalf 5973, O Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389.’ Do not fear 3372a or be dismayed 2865; tomorrow 4279 go 3318 out to face 6440 them, for the LORD 3068 is with you.”

 20:18 ¶ Jehoshaphat 3092 bowed 6915 his head with [his] face 639 to the ground 776, and all 3605 Judah 3063 and the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389 fell 5307 down 5307 before 6440 the LORD 3068, worshiping 7812 the LORD 3068.

 20:19 The Levites 3881, from the sons 1121 of the Kohathites 6956 and of the sons 1121 of the Korahites 7145, stood 6965 up to praise 1984b the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478, with a very 4605 loud 1419 voice 6963.

 20:20 ¶ They rose 7925 early 7925 in the morning 1242 and went 3318 out to the wilderness 4057b of Tekoa 8620; and when they went 3318 out, Jehoshaphat 3092 stood 5975 and said 559, “Listen 8085 to me, O Judah 3063 and inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389, put 539 your trust 539 in the LORD 3068 your God 430 and you will be established 539. Put 539 your trust 539 in His prophets 5030 and succeed 6743b.”

 20:21 When he had consulted 3289 with the people 5971a, he appointed 5975 those who sang 7891 to the LORD 3068 and those who praised 1984b [Him] in holy 6944 attire 1927a, as they went 3318 out before 6440 the army 2502b and said 559, “Give 3034 thanks 3034 to the LORD 3068, for His lovingkindness 2617a is everlasting 5769.”

 20:22 When 6256 they began 2490c singing 7440 and praising 8416, the LORD 3068 set 5414 ambushes 693 against 5921 the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983, Moab 4124 and Mount 2022 Seir 8165, who had come 935 against Judah 3063; so they were routed 5062.

 20:23 For the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983 and Moab 4124 rose 5975 up against 5921 the inhabitants 3427 of Mount 2022 Seir 8165 destroying 2763a [them] completely 8045; and when they had finished 3615 with the inhabitants 3427 of Seir 8165, they helped 5826 to destroy 4889 one 376 another 7453.

 20:24 ¶ When Judah 3063 came 935 to the lookout 4707 of the wilderness 4057b, they looked 6437 toward 413 the multitude 1995, and behold 2009, they [were] corpses 6297 lying 5307 on the ground 776, and no 369 one 369 had escaped 6413.

 20:25 When Jehoshaphat 3092 and his people 5971a came 935 to take 962 their spoil 7998, they found 4672 much 7230 among them, [including] goods 7399, garments 899b and valuable 2536b things 3627 which they took 5337 for themselves, more than 4480 they could carry 4853a. And they were three 7969 days 3117 taking 962 the spoil 7998 because 3588 there was so much 7227a.

 20:26 Then on the fourth 7243 day 3117 they assembled 6950 in the valley 6010 of Beracah 1294, for there 8033 they blessed 1288 the LORD 3068. Therefore 5921 3651 they have named 7121 8034 that place 4725 “The Valley 6010 of Beracah 1294” until 5704 today 3117.

 20:27 Every 3605 man 376 of Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389 returned 7725 with Jehoshaphat 3092 at their head 7218, returning 7725 to Jerusalem 3389 with joy 8057, for the LORD 3068 had made them to rejoice 8055 over 4480 their enemies 340.

 20:28 They came 935 to Jerusalem 3389 with harps 5035b, lyres 3658 and trumpets 2689 to the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 20:29 And the dread 6343 of God 430 was on all 3605 the kingdoms 4467 of the lands 776 when they heard 8085 that the LORD 3068 had fought 3898a against 5973 the enemies 340 of Israel 3478.

 20:30 So the kingdom 4438 of Jehoshaphat 3092 was at peace 8252, for his God 430 gave 5117 him rest 5117 on all 5439 sides 5439.

 20:31 ¶ Now Jehoshaphat 3092 reigned 4427a over 5921 Judah 3063. He [was] thirty-five 7970 2568 years 8141 old 1121 when he became 4427a king 4427a, and he reigned 4427a in Jerusalem 3389 twenty-five 6242 2568 years 8141. And his mother’s 517 name 8034 [was] Azubah 5806 the daughter 1323 of Shilhi 7977.

 20:32 He walked 1980 in the way 1870 of his father 1 Asa 609 and did not depart 5493 from it, doing 6213a right 3477 in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068.

 20:33 The high 1116 places 1116, however 389, were not removed 5493; the people 5971a had not yet 5750 directed 3559 their hearts 3824 to the God 430 of their fathers 1.

 20:34 ¶ Now the rest 3499a of the acts 1697 of Jehoshaphat 3092, first 7223 to last 314, behold 2009, they are written 3789 in the annals 1697 of Jehu 3058 the son 1121 of Hanani 2607, which 834 is recorded 5927 in the Book 5612 of the Kings 4428 of Israel 3478.

 20:35 ¶ After 310 this 3651 Jehoshaphat 3092 king 4428 of Judah 3063 allied 2266 himself with Ahaziah 274 king 4428 of Israel 3478. He acted 7561 wickedly 7561 in so doing 6213a.

 20:36 So he allied 2266 himself with him to make 6213a ships 591 to go 1980 to Tarshish 8659, and they made 6213a the ships 591 in Ezion-geber 6100.

 20:37 Then Eliezer 461 the son 1121 of Dodavahu 1735 of Mareshah 4762 prophesied 5012 against 5921 Jehoshaphat 3092 saying 559, “Because you have allied 2266 yourself with Ahaziah 274, the LORD 3068 has destroyed 6555 your works 4639.” So the ships 591 were broken 7665 and could 6113 not go 1980 to Tarshish 8659.
