2 Chronicles 25

1 Amaziah beginneth to reign well. 3 He executeth justice on the traitors. 5 Having hired an army of Israelites against the Edomites, at the word of a prophet he loseth the hundred talents, and dismisseth them. 11 He overthroweth the Edomites. 10, 13 The Israelites, discontented with their dismission, spoil as they return home. 14 Amaziah, proud of his victory, serveth the gods of Edom, and despiseth the admonitions of the prophet. 17 He provoketh Joash to his overthrow. 25 His reign. 27 He is slain by conspiracy.

 25:1 Amaziah 558 was twenty-five 6242 2568 years 8141 old 1121 when he became 4427a king 4427a, and he reigned 4427a twenty-nine 6242 8672 years 8141 in Jerusalem 3389. And his mother’s 517 name 8034 was Jehoaddan 3086 of Jerusalem 3389.

 25:2 He did 6213a right 3477 in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068, yet 7534 not with a whole 8003 heart 3824.

 25:3 Now it came 1961 about as soon 3512c as the kingdom 4467 was firmly 2388 in his grasp 2388, that he killed 2026 his servants 5650 who had slain 5221 his father 1 the king 4428.

 25:4 However, he did not put 4191 their children 1121 to death 4191, but [did] as it is written 3789 in the law 8451 in the book 5612 of Moses 4872, which 834 the LORD 3068 commanded 6680, saying 559, “Fathers 1 shall not be put 4191 to death 4191 for sons 1121, nor 3808 sons 1121 be put 4191 to death 4191 for fathers 1, but each 376 shall be put 4191 to death 4191 for his own sin 2399.”

 25:5 ¶ Moreover, Amaziah 558 assembled 6908 Judah 3063 and appointed 5975 them according to [their] fathers’ 1 households 1004 under commanders 8269 of thousands 505 and commanders 8269 of hundreds 3967 throughout 3605 Judah 3063 and Benjamin 1144; and he took 6485 a census 6485 of those from twenty 6242 years 8141 old 1121 and upward 4605 and found 4672 them to be 300,000 7969 3967 505 choice 970 men, [able] to go 3318 to war 6635 [and] handle 270 spear 7420 and shield 6793c.

 25:6 He hired 7936 also 100,000 3967 505 valiant 2428 warriors 1368 out of Israel 3478 for one hundred 3967 talents 3603 of silver 3701.

 25:7 But a man 376 of God 430 came 935 to him saying 559, “O king 4428, do not let the army 6635 of Israel 3478 go 935 with you, for the LORD 3068 is not with Israel 3478 [nor with] any 3605 of the sons 1121 of Ephraim 669.

 25:8 “But if 518 you do go 935, do 6213a [it], be strong 2388 for the battle 4421; [yet] God 430 will bring 3782 you down 3782 before 6440 the enemy 340, for God 430 has 3426 power 3581b to help 5826 and to bring 3782 down 3782.”

 25:9 Amaziah 558 said 559 to the man 376 of God 430, “But what 4100 [shall we] do 6213a for the hundred 3967 talents 3603 which 834 I have given 5414 to the troops 1416 of Israel 3478?” And the man 376 of God 430 answered 559, “The LORD 3068 has 3426 much 7235a more 7235a to give 5414 you than 4480 this 2088.”

 25:10 Then Amaziah 558 dismissed 914 them, the troops 1416 which 834 came 935 to him from Ephraim 669, to go 1980 home 4725; so their anger 639 burned 2734 against Judah 3063 and they returned 7725 home 4725 in fierce 2750 anger 639.

 25:11 ¶ Now Amaziah 558 strengthened 2388 himself and led 5090a his people 5971a forth 5090a, and went 1980 to the Valley 1516 of Salt 4417 and struck 5221 down 5221 10,000 6235 505 of the sons 1121 of Seir 8165.

 25:12 The sons 1121 of Judah 3063 also captured 7617 10,000 6235 505 alive 2416a and brought 935 them to the top 7218 of the cliff 5553 and threw 7993 them down 7993 from the top 7218 of the cliff 5553, so that they were all 3605 dashed 1234 to pieces 1234.

 25:13 But the troops 1121 1416 whom 834 Amaziah 558 sent 7725 back 7725 from going 1980 with him to battle 4421, raided 6584 the cities 5892b of Judah 3063, from Samaria 8111 to Beth-horon 1032, and struck 5221 down 5221 3,000 7969 505 of them and plundered 962 much 7227a spoil 961.

 25:14 ¶ Now after 310 Amaziah 558 came 1961 from slaughtering 5221 the Edomites 130, he brought 935 the gods 430 of the sons 1121 of Seir 8165, set 5975 them up as his gods 430, bowed 7812 down 7812 before 6440 them and burned 6999 incense 6999 to them.

 25:15 Then the anger 639 of the LORD 3068 burned 2734 against Amaziah 558, and He sent 7971 him a prophet 5030 who said 559 to him, “Why 4100 have you sought 1875 the gods 430 of the people 5971a who 834 have not delivered 5337 their own people 5971a from your hand 3027?”

 25:16 As he was talking 1696 with him, the king said 559 to him, “Have we appointed 5414 you a royal 4428 counselor 3289? Stop 2308! Why 4100 should you be struck 5221 down 5221?” Then the prophet 5030 stopped 2308 and said 559, “I know 3045 that God 430 has planned 3289 to destroy 7843 you, because 3588 you have done 6213a this 2088 and have not listened 8085 to my counsel 6098.”

 25:17 ¶ Then Amaziah 558 king 4428 of Judah 3063 took 3289 counsel 3289 and sent 7971 to Joash 3060 the son 1121 of Jehoahaz 3059 the son 1121 of Jehu 3058, the king 4428 of Israel 3478, saying 559, “Come 1980, let us face 7200 6440 each other.”

 25:18 Joash 3060 the king 4428 of Israel 3478 sent 7971 to Amaziah 558 king 4428 of Judah 3063, saying 559, “The thorn 2336 bush 2336 which 834 was in Lebanon 3844 sent 7971 to the cedar 730 which 834 was in Lebanon 3844, saying 559, ‘Give 5414 your daughter 1323 to my son 1121 in marriage 802.’ But there passed 5674a by a wild 7704 beast 2421b that was in Lebanon 3844 and trampled 7429 the thorn 2336 bush 2336.

 25:19 “You said 559, ‘Behold 2009, you have defeated 5221 Edom 112b.’ And your heart 3820 has become 5375 proud 5375 in boasting 3513. Now 6258 stay 3427 at home 1004; for why 4100 should you provoke 1624 trouble 7463a so that you, even you, would fall 5307 and Judah 3063 with you?”

 25:20 ¶ But Amaziah 558 would not listen 8085, for it was from God 430, that He might deliver 5414 them into the hand 3027 [of Joash] because 3588 they had sought 1875 the gods 430 of Edom 112b.

 25:21 So Joash 3060 king 4428 of Israel 3478 went 5927 up, and he and Amaziah 558 king 4428 of Judah 3063 faced 7200 6440 each other at Beth-shemesh 1053, which 834 belonged to Judah 3063.

 25:22 Judah 3063 was defeated 5062 by Israel 3478, and they fled 5127 each 376 to his tent 168.

 25:23 Then Joash 3060 king 4428 of Israel 3478 captured 8610 Amaziah 558 king 4428 of Judah 3063, the son 1121 of Joash 3060 the son 1121 of Jehoahaz 3059, at Beth-shemesh 1053, and brought 935 him to Jerusalem 3389 and tore 6555 down 6555 the wall 2346 of Jerusalem 3389 from the Gate 8179 of Ephraim 669 to the Corner 6438 Gate 8179, 400 702 3967 cubits 520.

 25:24 [He took] all 3605 the gold 2091 and silver 3701 and all 3605 the utensils 3627 which were found 4672 in the house 1004 of God 430 with Obed-edom 5654, and the treasures 214 of the king’s 4428 house 1004, the hostages 8594 also, and returned 7725 to Samaria 8111.

 25:25 ¶ And Amaziah 558, the son 1121 of Joash 3060 king 4428 of Judah 3063, lived 2421a fifteen 2568 6240 years 8141 after 310 the death 4194 of Joash 3060, son 1121 of Jehoahaz 3059, king 4428 of Israel 3478.

 25:26 Now the rest 3499a of the acts 1697 of Amaziah 558, from first 7223 to last 314, behold 2009, are they not written 3789 in the Book 5612 of the Kings 4428 of Judah 3063 and Israel 3478?

 25:27 From the time 6256 that Amaziah 558 turned 5493 away 5493 from following 310 the LORD 3068 they conspired 7194 against 5921 him in Jerusalem 3389, and he fled 5127 to Lachish 3923; but they sent 7971 after 310 him to Lachish 3923 and killed 4191 him there 8033.

 25:28 Then they brought 5375 him on horses 5483b and buried 6912 him with his fathers 1 in the city 5892b of Judah 3063.
