2 Chronicles 28

1 Ahaz reigning very wickedly is greatly afflicted by the Syrians. 6 Judah being captivated by the Israelites is sent home by the counsel of Obed the prophet. 16 Ahaz sending for aid to Assyria is not helped thereby. 22 In his distress he groweth more idolatrous. 26 He dying, Hezekiah succeedeth him.

 28:1 Ahaz 271 [was] twenty 6242 years 8141 old 1121 when he became 4427a king 4427a, and he reigned 4427a sixteen 8337a 6240 years 8141 in Jerusalem 3389; and he did not do 6213a right 3477 in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068 as David 1732 his father 1 [had done].

 28:2 But he walked 1980 in the ways 1870 of the kings 4428 of Israel 3478; he also 1571 made 6213a molten 4541a images 4541a for the Baals 1168a.

 28:3 Moreover, he burned 6999 incense 6999 in the valley 1516 of Ben-hinnom 1121 2011 and burned 1197a his sons 1121 in fire 784, according to the abominations 8441 of the nations 1471 whom 834 the LORD 3068 had driven 3423 out before 4480 6440 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478.

 28:4 He sacrificed 2076 and burned 6999 incense 6999 on the high 1116 places 1116, on the hills 1389 and under 8478 every 3605 green 7488 tree 6086.

 28:5 ¶ Wherefore, the LORD 3068 his God 430 delivered 5414 him into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Aram 758; and they defeated 5221 him and carried 7617 away from him a great 1419 number of captives 7633 and brought 935 [them] to Damascus 1834. And he was also 1571 delivered 5414 into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Israel 3478, who inflicted 5221 him with heavy 1419 casualties 4347.

 28:6 For Pekah 6492 the son 1121 of Remaliah 7425 slew 2026 in Judah 3063 120,000 3967 6242 505 in one 259 day 3117, all 3605 valiant 2428 men 1121, because they had forsaken 5800a the LORD 3068 God 430 of their fathers 1.

 28:7 And Zichri 2147, a mighty 1368 man 1368 of Ephraim 669, slew 2026 Maaseiah 4641 the king’s 4428 son 1121 and Azrikam 5840 the ruler 5057 of the house 1004 and Elkanah 511 the second 4932 to the king 4428.

 28:8 ¶ The sons 1121 of Israel 3478 carried 7617 away captive 7617 of their brethren 251 200,000 3967 505 women 802, sons 1121 and daughters 1323; and they took 962 also 1571 a great 7227a deal 7227a of spoil 7998 from them, and brought 935 the spoil 7998 to Samaria 8111.

 28:9 But a prophet 5030 of the LORD 3068 was there 8033, whose name 8034 [was] Oded 5752; and he went 3318 out to meet 6440 the army 6635 which came 935 to Samaria 8111 and said 559 to them, “Behold 2009, because the LORD 3068, the God 430 of your fathers 1, was angry 2534 with Judah 3063, He has delivered 5414 them into your hand 3027, and you have slain 2026 them in a rage 2197 [which] has even 5704 reached 5060 heaven 8064.

 28:10 “Now 6258 you are proposing 559 to subjugate 3533 for yourselves the people 1121 of Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389 for male 5650 and female 8198 slaves 8198 5650. Surely 7534, [do] you not [have] transgressions 819 of your own 5973 against the LORD 3068 your God 430?

 28:11 “Now 6258 therefore, listen 8085 to me and return 7725 the captives 7633 whom 834 you captured 7617 from your brothers 251, for the burning 2740 anger 639 of the LORD 3068 is against 5921 you.”

 28:12 Then some 376 of the heads 7218 of the sons 1121 of Ephraim 669—Azariah 5838 the son 1121 of Johanan 3076, Berechiah 1296 the son 1121 of Meshillemoth 4919, Jehizkiah 3169 the son 1121 of Shallum 7967, and Amasa 6021 the son 1121 of Hadlai 2311—arose 6965 against 5921 those who were coming 935 from the battle 6635,

 28:13 and said 559 to them, “You must not bring 935 the captives 7633 in here 2008, for you are proposing 559 [to bring] upon us guilt 819 against the LORD 3068 adding 3254 to our sins 2403b and our guilt 819; for our guilt 819 is great 7227a so that [His] burning 2740 anger 639 is against 5921 Israel 3478.”

 28:14 So the armed 2502b men left 5800a the captives 7633 and the spoil 957 before 6440 the officers 8269 and all 3605 the assembly 6951.

 28:15 Then the men 376 who 834 were designated 5344a by name 8034 arose 6965, took 2388 the captives 7633, and they clothed 3847 all 3605 their naked 4636 ones 4636 from the spoil 7998; and they gave 3847 them clothes 3847 and sandals 5274b, fed 398 them and gave 8248 them drink 8248, anointed 5480a them [with oil], led 5095 all 3605 their feeble 3782 ones on donkeys 2543, and brought 935 them to Jericho 3405, the city 5892b of palm 8558 trees 8558, to their brothers 251; then they returned 7725 to Samaria 8111.

 28:16 ¶ At that time 6256 King 4428 Ahaz 271 sent 7971 to the kings 4428 of Assyria 804b for help 5826.

 28:17 For again 5750 the Edomites 130 had come 935 and attacked 5221 Judah 3063 and carried 7617 away captives 7628b.

 28:18 The Philistines 6430 also had invaded 6584 the cities 5892b of the lowland 8219 and of the Negev 5045 of Judah 3063, and had taken 3920 Beth-shemesh 1053, Aijalon 357, Gederoth 1450, and Soco 7755 with its villages 1323, Timnah 8553 with its villages 1323, and Gimzo 1579 with its villages 1323, and they settled 3427 there 8033.

 28:19 For the LORD 3068 humbled 3665 Judah 3063 because 5668 of Ahaz 271 king 4428 of Israel 3478, for he had brought 6544a about a lack 6544a of restraint 6544a in Judah 3063 and was very 4604 unfaithful 4604 to the LORD 3068.

 28:20 So Tilgath-pilneser 8407 king 4428 of Assyria 804b came 935 against 5921 him and afflicted 6887a him instead 3808 of strengthening 2388 him.

 28:21 Although 3588 Ahaz 271 took 2505a a portion 2505a out of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 and out of the palace 1004 of the king 4428 and of the princes 8269, and gave 5414 [it] to the king 4428 of Assyria 804b, it did not help 5833 him.

 28:22 ¶ Now in the time 6256 of his distress 6887a this 1931 same 1931 King 4428 Ahaz 271 became 4603 yet 3254 more 3254 unfaithful 4603 to the LORD 3068.

 28:23 For he sacrificed 2076 to the gods 430 of Damascus 1834 which had defeated 5221 him, and said 559, “Because 3588 the gods 430 of the kings 4428 of Aram 758 helped 5826 them, I will sacrifice 2076 to them that they may help 5826 me.” But they became 1961 the downfall 3782 of him and all 3605 Israel 3478.

 28:24 Moreover, when Ahaz 271 gathered 622 together the utensils 3627 of the house 1004 of God 430, he cut 7112 the utensils 3627 of the house 1004 of God 430 in pieces 7112; and he closed 5462 the doors 1817 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 and made 6213a altars 4196 for himself in every 3605 corner 6438 of Jerusalem 3389.

 28:25 In every 3605 city 5892b of Judah 3063 he made 6213a high 1116 places 1116 to burn 6999 incense 6999 to other 312 gods 430, and provoked 3707 the LORD 3068, the God 430 of his fathers 1, to anger 3707.

 28:26 Now the rest 3499a of his acts 1697 and all 3605 his ways 1870, from first 7223 to last 314, behold 2009, they are written 3789 in the Book 5612 of the Kings 4428 of Judah 3063 and Israel 3478.

 28:27 So Ahaz 271 slept 7901 with his fathers 1, and they buried 6912 him in the city 5892b, in Jerusalem 3389, for they did not bring 935 him into the tombs 6913 of the kings 4428 of Israel 3478; and Hezekiah 2396 his son 1121 reigned 4427a in his place 8478.
