2 Chronicles 24

1 Joash reigneth well all the days of Jehoiada. 4 He giveth order for the repair of the Temple. 15 Jehoiada's death and honourable burial. 17 Joash, falling to idolatry, slayeth Zechariah the son of Jehoiada. 23 Joash is spoiled by the Syrians, and slain by Zabad and Jehozabad. 27 Amaziah succeedeth him.

 24:1 Joash 3060 [was] seven 7651 years 8141 old 1121 when he became 4427a king 4427a, and he reigned 4427a forty 705 years 8141 in Jerusalem 3389; and his mother’s 517 name 8034 [was] Zibiah 6645 from Beersheba 884.

 24:2 Joash 3060 did 6213a what was right 3477 in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068 all 3605 the days 3117 of Jehoiada 3077 the priest 3548.

 24:3 Jehoiada 3077 took 5375 two 8147 wives 802 for him, and he became 3205 the father 3205 of sons 1121 and daughters 1323.

 24:4 ¶ Now it came 1961 about after 310 this 3651 that Joash 3060 decided 1961 5973 3820 to restore 2318 the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 24:5 He gathered 6908 the priests 3548 and Levites 3881 and said 559 to them, “Go 3318 out to the cities 5892b of Judah 3063 and collect 6908 money 3701 from all 3605 Israel 3478 to repair 2388 the house 1004 of your God 430 annually 1767 8141, and you shall do 4116 the matter 1697 quickly 4116.” But the Levites 3881 did not act 4116 quickly 4116.

 24:6 So the king 4428 summoned 7121 Jehoiada 3077 the chief 7218 [priest] and said 559 to him, “Why 4069 have you not required 1875 the Levites 3881 to bring 935 in from Judah 3063 and from Jerusalem 3389 the levy 4864 [fixed by] Moses 4872 the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068 on the congregation 6951 of Israel 3478 for the tent 168 of the testimony 5715?”

 24:7 For the sons 1121 of the wicked 4849 Athaliah 6271 had broken 6555 into the house 1004 of God 430 and even 1571 used 6213a the holy 6944 things 6944 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 for the Baals 1168a.

 24:8 ¶ So the king 4428 commanded 559, and they made 6213a a chest 727 and set 5414 it outside 2351 by the gate 8179 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 24:9 They made 5414 a proclamation 6963 in Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389 to bring 935 to the LORD 3068 the levy 4864 [fixed by] Moses 4872 the servant 5650 of God 430 on Israel 3478 in the wilderness 4057b.

 24:10 All 3605 the officers 8269 and all 3605 the people 5971a rejoiced 8055 and brought 935 in their levies and dropped 7993 [them] into the chest 727 until 5704 they had finished 3615.

 24:11 It came 1961 about whenever 6256 the chest 727 was brought 935 in to the king’s 4428 officer 6496 by the Levites 3881, and when they saw 7200 that there was much 7227a money 3701, then the king’s 4428 scribe 5613b and the chief 7218 priest’s 3548 officer 6496 would come 935, empty 6168 the chest 727, take 5375 it, and return 7725 it to its place 4725. Thus 3541 they did 6213a daily 3117 and collected 622 much 7230 money 3701.

 24:12 The king 4428 and Jehoiada 3077 gave 5414 it to those who did 6213a the work 4399 of the service 5656 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068; and they hired 7936 masons 2672 and carpenters 2796 to restore 2318 the house 1004 of the LORD 3068, and also 1571 workers 2796 in iron 1270 and bronze 5178 to repair 2388 the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 24:13 So the workmen 4399 6213a labored 6213a, and the repair 724 work 4399 progressed 5927 in their hands 3027, and they restored 5975 the house 1004 of God 430 according 5921 to its specifications 4971 and strengthened 553 it.

 24:14 When they had finished 3615, they brought 935 the rest 7605 of the money 3701 before 6440 the king 4428 and Jehoiada 3077; and it was made 6213a into utensils 3627 for the house 1004 of the LORD 3068, utensils 3627 for the service 8335 and the burnt 5930a offering 5930a, and pans 3709 and utensils 3627 of gold 2091 and silver 3701. And they offered 5927 burnt 5930a offerings 5930a in the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 continually 8548 all 3605 the days 3117 of Jehoiada 3077.

 24:15 ¶ Now when Jehoiada 3077 reached 2204 a ripe 7646 3117 old 2204 age 3117 he died 4191; he was one hundred 3967 and thirty 7970 years 8141 old 1121 at his death 4194.

 24:16 They buried 6912 him in the city 5892b of David 1732 among 5973 the kings 4428, because 3588 he had done 6213a well 2899b in Israel 3478 and to God 430 and His house 1004.

 24:17 ¶ But after 310 the death 4194 of Jehoiada 3077 the officials 8269 of Judah 3063 came 935 and bowed 7812 down 7812 to the king 4428, and the king 4428 listened 8085 to them.

 24:18 They abandoned 5800a the house 1004 of the LORD 3068, the God 430 of their fathers 1, and served 5647 the Asherim 842 and the idols 6091; so wrath 7110a came 1961 upon Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389 for this 2088 their guilt 819.

 24:19 Yet He sent 7971 prophets 5030 to them to bring 7725 them back 7725 to the LORD 3068; though they testified 5749b against them, they would not listen 238.

 24:20 ¶ Then the Spirit 7307 of God 430 came 3847 on Zechariah 2148a the son 1121 of Jehoiada 3077 the priest 3548; and he stood 5975 above 4480 5921 the people 5971a and said 559 to them, “Thus 3541 God 430 has said 559, ‘Why 4100 do you transgress 5674a the commandments 4687 of the LORD 3068 and do not prosper 6743b? Because 3588 you have forsaken 5800a the LORD 3068, He has also forsaken 5800a you.’”

 24:21 So they conspired 7194 against 5921 him and at the command 4687 of the king 4428 they stoned 7275 him to death 68 in the court 2691a of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 24:22 Thus Joash 3060 the king 4428 did not remember 2142 the kindness 2617a which 834 his father 1 Jehoiada 3077 had shown 6213a him, but he murdered 2026 his son 1121. And as he died 4194 he said 559, “May the LORD 3068 see 7200 and avenge 1875!”

 24:23 ¶ Now it happened 1961 at the turn 8622 of the year 8141 that the army 2428 of the Arameans 758 came 5927 up against 5921 him; and they came 935 to Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389, destroyed 7843 all 3605 the officials 8269 of the people 5971a from among the people 5971a, and sent 7971 all 3605 their spoil 7998 to the king 4428 of Damascus 1834.

 24:24 Indeed 3588 the army 2428 of the Arameans 758 came 935 with a small 4705 number of men 376; yet the LORD 3068 delivered 5414 a very 3966 great 7230 army 2428 into their hands 3027, because 3588 they had forsaken 5800a the LORD 3068, the God 430 of their fathers 1. Thus they executed 6213a judgment 8201 on Joash 3060.

 24:25 ¶ When they had departed 1980 from him (for they left 5800a him very 7227a sick 4251), his own servants 5650 conspired 7194 against 5921 him because of the blood 1818 of the son 1121 of Jehoiada 3077 the priest 3548, and murdered 2026 him on his bed 4296. So he died 4191, and they buried 6912 him in the city 5892b of David 1732, but they did not bury 6912 him in the tombs 6913 of the kings 4428.

 24:26 Now these 428 are those who conspired 7194 against 5921 him: Zabad 2066 the son 1121 of Shimeath 8100 the Ammonitess 5985, and Jehozabad 3075 the son 1121 of Shimrith 8116 the Moabitess 4125.

 24:27 As to his sons 1121 and the many 7230 oracles 4853b against 5921 him and the rebuilding 3245 of the house 1004 of God 430, behold 2009, they are written 3789 in the treatise 4097 of the Book 5612 of the Kings 4428. Then Amaziah 558 his son 1121 became 4427a king 4427a in his place 8478.
