David praiseth God for his manifold and marvellous blessings.
 18:1 ¶
[[For the end, [a Psalm] of David, the servant of the Lord; [the words] which he spoke to the Lord, [even] the words of this Song, in the day in which the Lord delivered him out the hand of all his enemies, and out the hand of Saul: and he said:]] I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. |
|
 18:1 ¶
[[To the chief Musician,ºº
[A Psalm] of David,º
the servantº
of Yahweh,º
whoº
spakeºº
unto Yahwehºº
the wordsº
of thisº
songº
in the dayº
[that] Yahwehº
deliveredºº
him from the handºº
of allº
his enemies,ºº
and from the handºº
of Saul:º
And he said,]]ºº
I will loveºº
thee, O Yahweh,º
my strength.º |
 18:2
The Lord is my firm support, and my refuge, and my deliverer; my God is my helper, I will hope in him; [he is] my defender, and the horn of my salvation, and my helper. |
 18:2
Yahwehº
[is] my rock,º
and my fortress,º
and my deliverer;ºº
my El,º
my strength,º
in whom I will trust;ºº
my buckler,º
and the hornº
of my salvation,º
[and] my high tower.º |
 18:3
I will call upon the Lord with praises, and I shall be saved from mine enemies. |
 18:3
I will callºº
upon Yahweh,º
[who is worthy] to be praised:ºº
so shall I be savedºº
fromº
mine enemies.ºº |
 18:4
The pangs of death compassed me, and the torrents of ungodliness troubled me exceedingly. |
 18:4
The sorrowsº
of deathº
compassedºº
me, and the floodsº
of ungodly menº
made me afraid.ºº |
 18:5
The pangs of hell came round about me: the snares of death prevented me. |
 18:5
The sorrowsº
of hellº
compassed me about:ºº
the snaresº
of deathº
preventedºº
me. |
 18:6
And when I was afflicted I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: he heard my voice out of this holy temple, and my cry shall enter before him, [even] into his ears. |
 18:6
In my distressº
I calledºº
uponº
Yahweh,º
and criedºº
untoº
my Elohim:º
he heardºº
my voiceº
out of his temple,ºº
and my cryº
cameºº
beforeº
him, [even] into his ears.º |
 18:7
Then the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains were disturbed, and were shaken, because God was angry with them. |
 18:7
Then the earthº
shookºº
and trembled;ºº
the foundationsº
also of the hillsº
movedºº
and were shaken,ºº
becauseº
he was wroth.ºº |
 18:8
There went up a smoke in his wrath, and fire burst into a flame at his presence: coals were kindled at it. |
 18:8
There went upºº
a smokeº
out of his nostrils,º
and fireº
out of his mouthºº
devoured:ºº
coalsº
were kindledºº
byº
it. |
 18:9
And he bowed the heaven, and came down: and thick darkness was under his feet. |
 18:9
He bowedºº
the heavensº
also, and came down:ºº
and darknessº
[was] underº
his feet.º |
 18:10
And he mounted on cherubs and flew: he flew on the wings of winds. |
 18:10
And he rodeºº
uponº
a cherub,º
and did fly:ºº
yea, he did flyºº
uponº
the wingsº
of the wind.º |
 18:11
And he made darkness his secret place: round about him was his tabernacle, [even] dark water in the clouds of the air. |
 18:11
He madeºº
darknessºº
his secret place;º
his pavilionº
round aboutº
him [were] darkº
watersº
[and] thick cloudsº
of the skies.º |
 18:12
At the brightness before him the clouds passed, hail and coals of fire. |
 18:12
At the brightnessºº
[that was] beforeº
him his thick cloudsº
passed,ºº
hailº
[stones] and coalsº
of fire.º |
 18:13
The Lord also thundered from heaven, and the Highest uttered his voice. |
 18:13
Yahwehº
also thunderedºº
in the heavens,º
and Elyonº
gaveºº
his voice;º
hailº
[stones] and coalsº
of fire.º |
 18:14
And he sent forth [his] weapons, and scattered them; and multiplied lightnings, and routed them. |
 18:14
Yea, he sent outºº
his arrows,º
and scatteredºº
them; and he shot outºº
lightnings,º
and discomfitedºº
them. |
 18:15
And the springs of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were exposed, at thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blasting of the breath of thy wrath. |
 18:15
Then the channelsº
of watersº
were seen,ºº
and the foundationsº
of the worldº
were discoveredºº
at thy rebuke,ºº
O Yahweh,º
at the blastºº
of the breathº
of thy nostrils.º |
 18:16
He sent from on high and took me, he drew me to himself out of many waters. |
 18:16
He sentºº
from above,ºº
he tookºº
me, he drewºº
me out of manyº
waters.ººº |
 18:17
He will deliver me from my mighty enemies, and from them that hate me; for they are stronger than I. |
 18:17
He deliveredºº
me from my strongº
enemy,ººº
and from them which hatedººº
me: forº
they were too strongºº
forº
me. |
 18:18
They prevented me in the day of mine affliction: but the Lord was my stay against [them]. |
 18:18
They preventedºº
me in the dayº
of my calamity:º
but Yahwehº
wasº
my stay.º |
 18:19
And he brought me out into a wide place: he will deliver me, because he has pleasure in me. |
 18:19
He brought me forthºº
also into a large place;º
he deliveredºº
me, becauseº
he delightedºº
in me. |
 18:20
And the Lord will recompense me according to my righteousness; even according to the purity of my hands will he recompense me. |
 18:20
Yahwehº
rewardedºº
me according to my righteousness;º
according to the cleannessº
of my handsº
hath he recompensedºº
me. |
 18:21
For I have kept the way of the Lord and have not wickedly departed from my God. |
 18:21
Forº
I have keptºº
the waysº
of Yahweh,º
and have notº
wickedly departedºº
from my Elohim.ºº |
 18:22
For all his judgments were before me, and his ordinances departed not from me. |
 18:22
Forº
allº
his judgmentsº
[were] beforeº
me, and I did notº
put awayºº
his statutesº
fromº
me. |
 18:23
And I shall be blameless with hem, and shall keep myself from mine iniquity. |
 18:23
I wasº
also uprightº
beforeº
him, and I keptºº
myselfº
from mine iniquity.ºº |
 18:24
And the Lord shall recompense me according to my righteousness, and according to the purity of my hands before his eyes. |
 18:24
Therefore hath Yahwehº
recompensedºº
me according to my righteousness,º
according to the cleannessº
of my handsº
inº
his eyesight.º |
 18:25
With the holy thou wilt be holy; and with the innocent man thou wilt be innocent. |
 18:25
Withº
the mercifulº
thou wilt shew thyself merciful;ºº
withº
an uprightº
manº
thou wilt shew thyself upright;ºº |
 18:26
And with the excellent [man] thou wilt be excellent; and with the perverse thou wilt shew frowardness. |
 18:26
Withº
the pureºº
thou wilt shew thyself pure;ºº
and withº
the frowardº
thou wilt shew thyself froward.ºº |
 18:27
For thou wilt save the lowly people, and wilt humble the eyes of the proud. |
 18:27
Forº
thou wiltº
saveºº
the afflictedº
people;º
but wilt bring downºº
highºº
looks.º |
 18:28
For thou, O Lord, wilt light my lamp: my God, thou wilt lighten my darkness. |
 18:28
Forº
thouº
wilt lightºº
my candle:º
Yahwehº
my Elohimº
will enlightenºº
my darkness.º |
 18:29
For by thee shall I be delivered from a troop; and by my God I will pass over a wall. |
 18:29
Forº
by thee I have run throughºº
a troop;º
and by my Elohimº
have I leaped overºº
a wall.º |
 18:30
[As for] my God, his way is perfect: the oracles of the Lord are tried in the fire; he is a protector of all them that hope in him. |
 18:30
[As for] El,º
his wayº
[is] perfect:º
the wordº
of Yahwehº
is tried:ºº
heº
[is] a bucklerº
to allº
those that trustºº
in him. |
 18:31
For who is God but the Lord? and who is a God except our God? |
 18:31
Forº
whoº
[is] Eloahº
saveºº
Yahweh?º
or whoº
[is] a rockº
saveº
our Elohim?º |
 18:32
[It is] God that girds me with strength, and has made my way blameless: |
 18:32
[It is] Elº
that girdethºº
me with strength,º
and makethºº
my wayº
perfect.º |
 18:33
who strengthens my feet as hart's feet, and sets me upon high places. |
 18:33
He makethºº
my feetº
like hinds'º
[feet], and settethºº
me uponº
my high places.º |
 18:34
He instructs my hands for war: and thou hast made my arms [as] a brazen bow. |
 18:34
He teachethºº
my handsº
to war,º
so that a bowº
of steelº
is brokenºº
by mine arms.º |
 18:35
And thou hast made me secure in my salvation: and thy right hand has helped me, and thy correction has upheld me to the end; yea, thy correction itself shall instruct me. |
 18:35
Thou hast also givenºº
me the shieldº
of thy salvation:º
and thy right handº
hath holden me up,ºº
and thy gentlenessºº
hath made me great.ºº |
 18:36
Thou has made room for my goings under me, and by footsteps did not fail. |
 18:36
Thou hast enlargedºº
my stepsº
underº
me, that my feetº
did notº
slip.ºº |
 18:37
I will pursue mine enemies, and overtake them; and I will not turn back until they are consumed. |
 18:37
I have pursuedºº
mine enemies,ºº
and overtakenºº
them: neitherº
did I turn againºº
tillº
they were consumed.ºº |
 18:38
I will dash them to pieces and they shall not be able to stand: they shall fall under my feet. |
 18:38
I have woundedºº
them that they were notº
ableºº
to rise:ºº
they are fallenºº
underº
my feet.º |
 18:39
For thou hast girded me with strength for war: thou hast beaten down under me all that rose up against me. |
 18:39
For thou hast girdedºº
me with strengthº
unto the battle:º
thou hast subduedºº
underº
me those that rose upºº
against me. |
 18:40
And thou has made mine enemies turn their backs before me; and thou hast destroyed them that hated me. |
 18:40
Thou hast also givenºº
me the necksº
of mine enemies;ºº
that I might destroyºº
them that hateºº
me. |
 18:41
They cried, but there was no deliverer: [even] to the Lord, but he hearkened not to them. |
 18:41
They cried,ºº
but [there was] noneº
to saveºº
[them: even] untoº
Yahweh,º
but he answeredºº
them not.º |
 18:42
I will grind them as the mud of the streets: and I will beat them small as dust before the wind. |
 18:42
Then did I beatºº
them smallº
as the dustº
beforeºº
the wind:º
I did cast them outºº
as the dirtº
in the streets.º |
 18:43
Deliver me from the gain sayings of the people: thou shalt make me head of the Gentiles: a people whom I knew not served me, |
 18:43
Thou hast deliveredºº
me from the strivingsºº
of the people;º
[and] thou hast madeºº
me the headº
of the heathen:º
a peopleº
[whom] I have notº
knownºº
shall serveºº
me. |
 18:44
at the hearing of the ear they obeyed me: the strange children lied to me. |
 18:44
As soon as they hearºº
of me, they shall obeyºº
me: the strangersºº
shall submitºº
themselves unto me. |
 18:45
The strange children waxed old, and fell away from their paths through lameness. |
 18:45
The strangersºº
shall fade away,ºº
and be afraidºº
out ofº
their close places.º |
 18:46
The Lord lives; and blessed [be] my God; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. |
 18:46
Yahwehº
liveth;º
and blessedºº
[be] my rock;º
and let the Elohimº
of my salvationº
be exalted.ºº |
 18:47
[It is] God that avenges me, and has subdued the nations under me; |
 18:47
[It is] Elº
that avengethººº
me, and subduethºº
the peopleº
underº
me. |
 18:48
my deliverer from angry enemies: thou shalt set me on high above them that rise up against me: thou shalt deliver me from the unrighteous man. |
 18:48
He deliverethºº
me from mine enemies:ººº
yea,º
thou liftest me upºº
aboveº
those that rise upºº
against me: thou hast deliveredºº
me from the violentº
man.ºº |
 18:49
Therefore will I confess to thee, O Lord, among the Gentiles, and sing to thy name. |
 18:49
Thereforeºº
will I give thanksºº
unto thee, O Yahweh,º
among the heathen,º
and sing praisesºº
unto thy name.º |
 18:50
[God] magnifies the deliverances of his king; and deals mercifully with David his anointed, and his seed, for ever. |
 18:50
Greatºº
deliveranceº
giveth he to his king;º
and shewethºº
mercyº
to his anointed,º
to David,º
and to his seedº
forº
evermore.ºº |
