 3:1 ¶
Behold now, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judah{gr.Judea} the mighty man and mighty woman, the strength of bread, and the strength of water, |
|
 3:1 ¶
For,º
behold,º
Adon,º
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
doth take awayºº
from Jerusalemºº
and from Judahºº
the stayº
and the staff,º
the wholeº
stayº
of bread,º
and the wholeº
stayº
of water,º |
 3:2
the great and mighty man, the warrior and the judge, and the prophet, and the counsellor, and the elder, |
 3:2
The mightyº
man,º
and the manº
of war,º
the judge,ºº
and the prophet,º
and the prudent,ºº
and the ancient,º |
 3:3
the captain of fifty also, and the honourable counsellor, and the wise artificer, and the intelligent hearer. |
 3:3
The captainº
of fifty,º
and the honourableºº
man,ºº
and the counsellor,ºº
and the cunningº
artificer,ºº
and the eloquentºº
orator.º |
 3:4
And I will make youths their princes, and mockers shall have dominion over them. |
 3:4
And I will giveºº
childrenº
[to be] their princes,º
and babesº
shall ruleºº
over them. |
 3:5
And the people shall fall, man upon man, and [every] man upon his neighbor: the child shall insult the elder man, and the base the honourable. |
 3:5
And the peopleº
shall be oppressed,ºº
every oneº
by another,º
and every oneº
by his neighbour:º
the childº
shall behave himself proudlyºº
against the ancient,º
and the baseºº
against the honourable.ºº |
 3:6
For a man shall lay hold of his brother, as one of his father's household, saying, Thou hast raiment, be thou our ruler, and let my meat be under thee. |
 3:6
Whenº
a manº
shall take holdºº
of his brotherº
of the houseº
of his father,º
[saying], Thou hast clothing,º
beº
thou our ruler,º
and [let] thisº
ruinº
[be] underº
thy hand:º |
 3:7
And he shall answer in that day, and say, I will not be thy ruler; for I have no bread in my house, nor raiment: I will not be the ruler of this people. |
 3:7
In thatº
dayº
shall he swear,ºº
saying,ºº
I will notº
beº
an healer;ºº
for in my houseº
[is] neitherº
breadº
norº
clothing:º
makeºº
me notº
a rulerº
of the people.º |
 3:8
For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah{gr.Judea} has fallen, and their tongues [have spoken] with iniquity, disobedient [as they are] towards the Lord. |
 3:8
Forº
Jerusalemº
is ruined,ºº
and Judahº
is fallen:ºº
becauseº
their tongueº
and their doingsº
[are] againstº
Yahweh,º
to provokeºº
the eyesº
of his glory.º |
 3:9 ¶
Wherefore now their glory has been brought low, and the shame of their countenance has withstood them, and they have proclaimed their sin as Sodom, and made it manifest. |
 3:9 ¶
The shewº
of their countenanceº
doth witnessº
against them;ºº
and they declareºº
their sinº
as Sodom,º
they hideºº
[it] not.º
Woeº
unto their soul!º
forº
they have rewardedºº
evilº
unto themselves. |
 3:10
Woe to their soul, for they have devised an evil counsel against themselves, saying against themselves, Let us bind the just, for he is burdensome to us: therefore shall they eat the fruits of their works. |
 3:10
Sayºº
ye to the righteous,º
thatº
[it shall be] wellºº
[with him]: forº
they shall eatºº
the fruitº
of their doings.º |
 3:11
Woe to the transgressor! evils shall happen to him according to the works of his hands. |
 3:11
Woeº
unto the wicked!º
[it shall be] illº
[with him]: forº
the rewardº
of his handsº
shall be givenºº
him. |
 3:12 ¶
O my people, your exactors strip you, and extortioners rule over you: O my people, they that pronounce you blesses lead you astray, and pervert the path of your feet. |
 3:12 ¶
[As for] my people,º
childrenººº
[are] their oppressors,ºº
and womenº
ruleºº
over them. O my people,º
they which leadºº
thee cause [thee] to err,ºº
and destroyºº
the wayº
of thy paths.º |
 3:13
But now the Lord will stand up for judgement, and will enter into judgement with his people. |
 3:13
Yahwehº
standeth upºº
to plead,ºº
and standethºº
to judgeºº
the people.º |
 3:14
The Lord himself shall enter into judgement with the elders of the people, and with their rulers: but why have ye set my vineyard on fire, and [why is] the spoil of the poor in your houses? |
 3:14
Yahwehº
will enterºº
into judgmentº
withº
the ancientsº
of his people,º
and the princesº
thereof: for yeº
have eaten upºº
the vineyard;º
the spoilº
of the poorº
[is] in your houses.º |
 3:15
Why do ye wrong my people, and shame the face of the poor? |
 3:15
What mean yeº
[that] ye beatºº
my peopleº
to pieces,ººº
and grindºº
the facesº
of the poor?º
saithºº
Adonaiº
Yahwehºº
Sabaoth.º |
 3:16 ¶
Thus saith the Lord, Because the daughters of Zion{gr.Sion} are haughty, and have walked with an outstretched neck, and with winking of the eyes, and motion of the feet, at the same time drawing their garments in trains, and at the same time sporting with their feet: |
 3:16 ¶
Moreover Yahwehº
saith,ºº
Becauseºº
the daughtersº
of Zionº
are haughty,ºº
and walkººº
with stretched forthºº
necksº
and wantonºº
eyes,º
walkingºº
and mincingºº
[as] they go,ººº
and making a tinklingºº
with their feet:º |
 3:17
therefore the Lord will humble the chief daughters of Zion{gr.Sion}, and the Lord will expose their form in that day; |
 3:17
Therefore Yahwehº
will smite with a scabºº
the crown of the headº
of the daughtersº
of Zion,º
and Yahwehº
will discoverºº
their secret parts.º |
 3:18
and the Lord will take away the glory of their raiment, the curls and the fringes, and the crescents, |
 3:18
In thatº
dayº
Yahwehº
will take awayººº
the braveryº
of [their] tinkling ornamentsº
[about their feet], and [their] cauls,º
and [their] round tiresº
like the moon,º |
 3:19
and the chains, and the ornaments of their faces, |
 3:19
The chains,º
and the bracelets,º
and the mufflers,º |
 3:20
and the array of glorious ornaments, and the armlets, and the bracelets, and the wreathed work, and the finger-rings, and the ornaments for the right hand, |
 3:20
The bonnets,º
and the ornaments of the legs,º
and the headbands,º
and the tablets,ºº
and the earrings,º |
 3:21
and the ear-rings, and the garments with scarlet borders, |
 3:21
The rings,º
and noseº
jewels,º |
 3:22
and the garments with purple grounds, and the shawls to be worn in the house, and the Spartan transparent dresses, |
 3:22
The changeable suits of apparel,º
and the mantles,º
and the wimples,º
and the crisping pins,º |
 3:23
and those made of fine linen, and the purple [ones], and the scarlet [ones], and the fine linen, interwoven with gold and purple, and the light coverings for couches. |
 3:23
The glasses,º
and the fine linen,º
and the hoods,º
and the vails.º |
 3:24
And there shall be instead of a sweet smell, dust; and instead of a girdle, thou shalt gird thyself with a rope; and instead of a golden ornament for the head, thou shalt have baldness on account of thy works; and instead of a tunic with a scarlet ground, thou shalt gird thyself with sackcloth. |
 3:24
And it shall come to pass,º
[that] insteadº
of sweet smellº
there shall beº
stink;º
and insteadº
of a girdleº
a rent;º
and insteadº
of well setº
hairº
baldness;º
and insteadº
of a stomacherº
a girdingº
of sackcloth;º
[and] burningº
insteadº
of beauty.º |
 3:25
And thy most beautiful son whom thou lovest shall fall by the sword; and your mighty men shall fall by the sword, and shall be brought low. |
 3:25
Thy menº
shall fallºº
by the sword,º
and thy mightyº
in the war.º |
 3:26
And the stores of your ornaments shall mourn, and thou shalt be left alone, and shalt be levelled with the ground. |
 3:26
And her gatesº
shall lamentºº
and mourn;ºº
and she [being] desolateºº
shall sitºº
upon the ground.º |
