 10:1 ¶
Woe to them that write wickedness; for when they write they do write wickedness, |
|
 10:1 ¶
Woeº
unto them that decreeºº
unrighteousº
decrees,º
and that writeºº
grievousnessº
[which] they have prescribed;ºº |
 10:2
perverting the cause of the poor, violently wresting the judgement of the needy ones of my people, that the widow may be a prey to them, and the orphan a spoil. |
 10:2
To turn asideºº
the needyº
from judgment,ºº
and to take awayºº
the rightº
from the poorº
of my people,º
that widowsº
may beº
their prey,º
and [that] they may robºº
the fatherless!º |
 10:3
And what will they do in the day of visitation? for affliction shall come to you from afar: and to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory, |
 10:3
And whatº
will ye doºº
in the dayº
of visitation,º
and in the desolationº
[which] shall comeºº
from far?ºº
toº
whomº
will ye fleeºº
for help?º
and whereº
will ye leaveºº
your glory?º |
 10:4
that ye may not fall into captivity? For all this [his] wrath is not turned away, but [his] hand is yet exalted. |
 10:4
Withoutº
me they shallº
bow downºº
underº
the prisoners,º
and they shall fallºº
underº
the slain.ºº
For allº
thisº
his angerº
is notº
turned away,ºº
but his handº
[is] stretched outº
still.ººº |
 10:5 ¶
Woe to the Assyrians; the rod of my wrath, and anger are in their hands. |
 10:5 ¶
Oº
Assyrian,º
the rodº
of mine anger,º
and the staffº
in their handº
is mine indignation.º |
 10:6
I will send my wrath against a sinful nation, and I will charge my people to take plunder and spoil, and to trample the cities, and to make them dust. |
 10:6
I will sendºº
him against an hypocriticalº
nation,º
and againstº
the peopleº
of my wrathº
will I give him a charge,ºº
to takeºº
the spoil,º
and to takeºº
the prey,º
and to tread them downººº
like the mireº
of the streets.º |
 10:7
But he meant not thus, neither did he devise thus in his soul: but his mind shall change, and [that] to destroy nations not a few. |
 10:7
Howbeit heº
meanethºº
notº
so,º
neitherº
doth his heartº
thinkºº
so;º
butº
[it is] in his heartº
to destroyºº
and cut offºº
nationsº
notº
a few.º |
 10:8
And if they should say to him, Thou alone art ruler; |
 10:8
Forº
he saith,ºº
[Are] notº
my princesº
altogetherº
kings?º |
 10:9
then shall he say, Have I not taken the country above Babylon and Chalanes, where the tower was built? and have I [not] taken Arabia, and Damascus, and Samaria? |
 10:9
[Is] notº
Calnoº
as Carchemish?º
[is] notº
Hamathº
as Arpad?º
[is] notº
Samariaº
as Damascus?º |
 10:10
As I have taken them, I will also take all the kingdoms: howl, ye idols in Jerusalem, and in Samaria. |
 10:10
Asº
my handº
hath foundºº
the kingdomsº
of the idols,º
and whose graven imagesº
did excel them of Jerusalemºº
and of Samaria;ºº |
 10:11
For as I did to Samaria and her idols, so will I do also to Jerusalem and her idols. |
 10:11
Shall I not,º
asº
I have doneºº
unto Samariaº
and her idols,º
soº
doºº
to Jerusalemº
and her idols?º |
 10:12
And it shall come to pass, when the Lord shall have finished doing all things on Mount Zion{gr.Sion} and Jerusalem, [that] I will visit upon the proud heart, [even] upon the ruler of the Assyrians, and upon the boastful haughtiness of his eyes. |
 10:12
Wherefore it shall come to pass,º
[that] whenº
Yahwehº
hath performedºº
hisº
wholeº
workº
upon mountº
Zionº
and on Jerusalem,º
I will punishººº
the fruitº
of the stoutº
heartº
of the kingº
of Assyria,º
andº
the gloryº
of his highº
looks.º |
 10:13
For he said, I will act in strength, and in the wisdom of [my] understanding I will remove the boundaries of nations, and will spoil their strength. |
 10:13
Forº
he saith,ºº
By the strengthº
of my handº
I have doneºº
[it], and by my wisdom;º
forº
I am prudent:ºº
and I have removedºº
the boundsº
of the people,º
and have robbedºº
their treasures,ººº
and I have put downºº
the inhabitantsºº
like a valiantºº
[man]: |
 10:14
And I will shake the inhabited cities: and I will take with my hand all the world as a nest: and I will even take them as eggs that have been left; and there is none that shall escape me, or contradict me. |
 10:14
And my handº
hath foundºº
as a nestº
the richesº
of the people:º
and as one gatherethºº
eggsº
[that are] left,ºº
have Iº
gatheredºº
allº
the earth;º
and there wasº
noneº
that movedºº
the wing,º
or openedºº
the mouth,º
or peeped.ºº |
 10:15
Shall the axe glorify itself without him that hews with it? or shall the saw lift up itself without him that uses it, as if one should lift a rod or staff? but it shall not be so; |
 10:15
Shall the axeº
boastºº
itselfº
againstº
him that hewethºº
therewith? [or] shall the sawº
magnifyºº
itselfº
againstº
him that shakethºº
it? as if the rodº
should shakeºº
[itself] againstºº
them that lift it up,ºº
[or] as if the staffº
should lift upºº
[itself, as if it were] noº
wood.º |
 10:16
but the Lord of hosts shall send dishonour upon thine honour, and burning fire shall be kindled upon thy glory. |
 10:16
Thereforeº
shall Adon,º
Yahwehººº
Sabaoth,º
sendºº
among his fat onesº
leanness;º
and underº
his gloryº
he shall kindleºº
a burningº
like the burningº
of a fire.º |
 10:17
And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and he shall sanctify him with burning fire, and it shall devour the wood as grass. |
 10:17
And the lightº
of Israelº
shall beº
for a fire,º
and his Holy Oneº
for a flame:º
and it shall burnºº
and devourºº
his thornsº
and his briersº
in oneº
day;º |
 10:18
In that day the mountains shall be consumed, and the hills, and the forests, and [fire] shall devour [both] soul and body: and he that flees shall be as one fleeing from burning flame. |
 10:18
And shall consumeºº
the gloryº
of his forest,º
and of his fruitful field,º
both soulºº
and body:º
and they shall beº
as when a standardbearerºº
fainteth.ºº |
 10:19
And they that are left of them shall be a [small] number, and a child shall write them. |
 10:19
And the restº
of the treesº
of his forestº
shall beº
few,º
that a childº
may writeºº
them. |
 10:20 ¶
And it shall come to pass in that day [that] the remnant of Israel shall no more join themselves with, and the saved of Jacob shall no more trust in, them that injured them; but they shall trust in the Holy God of Israel, in truth. |
 10:20 ¶
And it shall come to passº
in thatº
day,º
[that] the remnantº
of Israel,º
and such as are escapedº
of the houseº
of Jacob,º
shall noº
moreº
againºº
stayºº
uponº
him that smoteºº
them; but shall stayºº
uponº
Yahweh,º
the Holy Oneº
of Israel,º
in truth.º |
 10:21
And the remnant of Jacob shall [trust] on the mighty God. |
 10:21
The remnantº
shall return,ºº
[even] the remnantº
of Jacob,º
untoº
the mightyº
El.º |
 10:22
And though the people of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them shall be saved. |
 10:22
Forº
thoughº
thy peopleº
Israelº
beº
as the sandº
of the sea,º
[yet] a remnantº
of them shall return:ºº
the consumptionº
decreedºº
shall overflowºº
with righteousness.º |
 10:23
He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because the Lord will make a short work in all the world. |
 10:23
Forº
Adonaiº
Yahwehº
Sabaothº
shall makeºº
a consumption,º
even determined,ºº
in the midstº
of allº
the land.º |
 10:24 ¶
Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, Be not afraid, my people who dwell in Zion{gr.Sion}, of the Assyrians, because he shall smite thee with a rod: for I am bringing a stroke upon thee, that [thou] mayest see the way of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}. |
 10:24 ¶
Thereforeº
thusº
saithºº
Adonaiº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
O my peopleº
that dwellestºº
in Zion,º
be notº
afraidºº
of the Assyrian:ºº
he shall smiteºº
thee with a rod,º
and shall lift upºº
his staffº
againstº
thee, after the mannerº
of Egypt.º |
 10:25
For yet a little while, and the indignation shall cease: but my wrath shall be against their council. |
 10:25
Forº
yetº
a veryº
littleº
while,º
and the indignationº
shall cease,ºº
and mine angerº
inº
their destruction.º |
 10:26
And God will stir up [enemies] against them, according to the stroke of Midian{gr.Madiam} in the place of affliction: and his wrath shall be by the way of the sea, [even] to the way that leads to Mizraim{gr.Egypt}. |
 10:26
And Yahwehº
Sabaothº
shall stir upºº
a scourgeº
forº
him according to the slaughterº
of Midianº
at the rockº
of Oreb:º
and [as] his rodº
[was] uponº
the sea,º
so shall he lift it upºº
after the mannerº
of Egypt.º |
 10:27
And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] his yoke shall be taken away from thy shoulder, and his fear from thee, and the yoke shall be destroyed from off your shoulders. |
 10:27
And it shall come to passº
in thatº
day,º
[that] his burdenº
shall be taken awayºº
from offºº
thy shoulder,º
and his yokeº
from offºº
thy neck,º
and the yokeº
shall be destroyedºº
becauseºº
of the anointing.º |
 10:28
For he shall arrive at the city of Angai, and shall pass on to Maggedo, and shall lay up his stores in Michmash{gr.Machmas}. |
 10:28
He is comeºº
toº
Aiath,º
he is passedºº
to Migron;º
at Michmashº
he hath laid upºº
his carriages:º |
 10:29
And he shall pass by the valley, and shall arrive at Angai: fear shall seize upon Ramah{gr.Rama}, the city of Saul. |
 10:29
They are gone overºº
the passage:º
they have taken up their lodgingº
at Geba;º
Ramahº
is afraid;ºº
Gibeahº
of Saulº
is fled.ºº |
 10:30
The daughter of Gallim shall flee; Laisa shall hear; one shall hear in Anathoth. |
 10:30
Lift upºº
thy voice,º
O daughterº
ofº
Gallim:º
cause it to be heardºº
unto Laish,º
O poorº
Anathoth.º |
 10:31
Madebena also is amazed, and the inhabitants of Gibbir. |
 10:31
Madmenahº
is removed;ºº
the inhabitantsºº
of Gebimº
gather themselves to flee.ºº |
 10:32
Exhort ye [them] to-day to remain in the way: exhort ye [beckoning] with the hand the mountain, the daughter of Zion{gr.Sion}, even ye hills that are in Jerusalem. |
 10:32
As yetº
shall he remainºº
at Nobº
that day:º
he shall shakeºº
his handº
[against] the mountº
of the daughterººº
of Zion,º
the hillº
of Jerusalem.º |
 10:33
Behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, will mightily confound the glorious ones; and the haughty in pride shall be crushed, and the lofty shall be brought low: |
 10:33
Behold,º
Adon,º
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
shall lopºº
the boughº
with terror:º
and the high onesººº
of statureº
[shall be] hewn down,ºº
and the haughtyº
shall be humbled.ºº |
 10:34
and the lofty ones shall fall by the sword, and the Lebanon{gr.Libanus} shall fall with his lofty ones. |
 10:34
And he shall cut downºº
the thicketsº
of the forestº
with iron,º
and Lebanonº
shall fallºº
by a mighty one.º |
