 17:1 ¶
THE WORD AGAINST DAMASCUS. Behold, Damascus shall be taken away from among cities, and shall become a ruin; |
|
 17:1 ¶
The burdenº
of Damascus.º
Behold,º
Damascusº
is taken awayºº
from [being] a city,ºº
and it shall beº
a ruinousº
heap.º |
 17:2
abandoned for ever, to [be] a fold and resting-place for flocks, and there shall be none to go after them. |
 17:2
The citiesº
of Aroerº
[are] forsaken:ºº
they shall beº
for flocks,º
which shall lie down,ºº
and noneº
shall make [them] afraid.ºº |
 17:3
And she shall no longer be a strong place for Ephraim to flee to, and there shall no longer be a kingdom in Damascus, or a remnant of Syrians; for thou art no better than the children of Israel, [even] than their glory; thus saith the Lord of hosts. |
 17:3
The fortressº
also shall ceaseºº
from Ephraim,ºº
and the kingdomº
from Damascus,ºº
and the remnantº
of Syria:º
they shall beº
as the gloryº
of the childrenº
of Israel,º
saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth.º |
 17:4
There shall be in that day a failure of the glory of Jacob, and the riches of his glory shall be shaken. |
 17:4
And in thatº
dayº
it shall come to pass,º
[that] the gloryº
of Jacobº
shall be made thin,ºº
and the fatnessº
of his fleshº
shall wax lean.ºº |
 17:5
And it shall be as if one should gather standing corn, and reap the grain of the ears; and it shall be as if one should gather ears in a rich valley; |
 17:5
And it shall beº
as when the harvestmanº
gatherethºº
the corn,º
and reapethºº
the earsº
with his arm;º
and it shall beº
as he that gatherethºº
earsº
in the valleyº
of Rephaim.º |
 17:6 ¶
and [as if] there should be left stubble therein, or [as it were] the berries of an olive tree, two or three on the topmost bough, or [as if] four or five should be left on their branches; thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel. |
 17:6 ¶
Yet gleaning grapesº
shall be leftºº
in it, as the shakingº
of an olive tree,º
twoº
[or] threeº
berriesº
in the topº
of the uppermost bough,º
fourº
[or] fiveº
in the outmost fruitfulºº
branchesº
thereof, saithºº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of Israel.º |
 17:7
In that day a man shall trust in him that made him, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel. |
 17:7
At thatº
dayº
shall a manº
lookºº
toº
his Maker,ºº
and his eyesº
shall have respectºº
toº
the Holyº
Oneº
of Israel.º |
 17:8
And they shall not at all trust in their altars, nor in the works of their hands, which their fingers made; and they shall not look to the trees, nor to their abominations. |
 17:8
And he shall notº
lookºº
toº
the altars,º
the workº
of his hands,º
neitherº
shall respectºº
[that] whichº
his fingersº
have made,ºº
either the groves,º
or the images.º |
 17:9 ¶
In that day thy cities shall be deserted, as the Amorites and the Evaeans deserted [theirs], because the of children of Israel; and they shall be desolate. |
 17:9 ¶
In thatº
dayº
shall his strongº
citiesº
beº
as a forsakenºº
bough,º
and an uppermost branch,º
whichº
they leftºº
becauseºº
of the childrenº
of Israel:º
and there shall beº
desolation.º |
 17:10
Because thou hast forsaken God thy Saviour, and hast not been mindful of the Lord thy helper; therefore shalt thou plant a false plant, and a false seed. |
 17:10
Becauseº
thou hast forgottenºº
the Elohimº
of thy salvation,º
and hast notº
been mindfulºº
of the rockº
of thy strength,º
thereforeºº
shalt thou plantºº
pleasantº
plants,º
and shalt setºº
it with strangeºº
slips:º |
 17:11
In the day wherein thou shalt plant thou shalt be deceived; but if thou sow in the morning, [the seed] shall spring up for a crop in the day wherein thou shalt obtain an inheritance, and as a man's father, thou shalt obtain an inheritance for thy sons. |
 17:11
In the dayº
shalt thou make thy plantº
to grow,ºº
and in the morningº
shalt thou make thy seedº
to flourish:ºº
[but] the harvestº
[shall be] a heapº
in the dayº
of griefºº
and of desperateºº
sorrow.º |
 17:12 ¶
Woe [to] the multitude of many nations, as the swelling sea, so shall ye be confounded; and the force of many nations shall sound like water; |
 17:12 ¶
Woeº
to the multitudeº
of manyº
people,º
[which] make a noiseºº
like the noiseºº
of the seas;º
and to the rushingº
of nations,º
[that] make a rushingº
like the rushingººº
of mightyº
waters!º |
 17:13
many nations like much water, as when much water rushes violently: and they shall drive him away, and pursue him afar, as the dust of chaff when men winnow before the wind, and as a storm whirling the dust of the wheel. |
 17:13
The nationsº
shall rushºº
like the rushingº
of manyº
waters:º
but [Elohim] shall rebukeºº
them, and they shall fleeºº
far off,ºº
and shall be chasedºº
as the chaffº
of the mountainsº
beforeº
the wind,º
and like a rolling thingº
beforeº
the whirlwind.º |
 17:14
Toward evening, and there shall be grief; before the morning, and he shall not be. This is the portion of them that spoiled you, and the inheritance to them that robbed you of your inheritance. |
 17:14
And beholdº
at eveningtideºº
trouble;º
[and] beforeº
the morningº
he [is] not.º
Thisº
[is] the portionº
of them that spoilºº
us, and the lotº
of them that robºº
us. |
