 4:1 ¶ And Ishbosheth{gr.Jebosthe} the son of Saul heard that Abner{gr.Abenner} the son of Ner had died in Hebron{gr.Chebron}; and his hands were paralyzed, and all the men of Israel grew faint.

 4:1 ¶ And when Saul's° son° heard°° that° Abner° was dead°° in Hebron,° his hands° were feeble,°° and all° the Israelites° were troubled.°°

 4:2 And Ishbosheth{gr.Jebosthe} the son of Saul had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one [was] Baanah{gr.Baana}, and the name of the other Rechab, sons of Rimmon{gr.Remmon} the Berothite of the children of Benjamin; for Beroth was reckoned to the children of Benjamin.

 4:2 And Saul's° son° had°° two° men°° [that were] captains° of bands:° the name° of the one° [was] Baanah,° and the name° of the other° Rechab,° the sons° of Rimmon° a Beerothite,° of the children°° of Benjamin:° (for° Beeroth° also° was reckoned°° to° Benjamin:°

 4:3 And the Berothites ran away to Gethaim, and were sojourners there until this day.

 4:3 And the Beerothites° fled°° to Gittaim,° and were° sojourners°° there° until° this° day.)°

 4:4 And Jonathan Saul's son [had] a son lame of his feet, five years old, and he was [in the way] when the news of Saul and Jonathan his son came from Jezreel{gr.Jezrael}, and his nurse took him up, and fled; and it came to pass as he hasted and retreated, that he fell, and was lamed. And his name [was] Mephibosheth{gr.Memphibosthe}.

 4:4 And Jonathan,° Saul's° son,° had a son° [that was] lame° of [his] feet.° He was° five° years° old° when the tidings° came°° of Saul° and Jonathan° out of Jezreel,°° and his nurse°° took him up,°° and fled:°° and it came to pass,° as she made haste°° to flee,°° that he fell,°° and became lame.°° And his name° [was] Mephibosheth.°

 4:5 And Rechab and Baanah{gr.Baana} the sons of Rimmon{gr.Remmon} the Berothite went, and they came in the heat of the day into the house of Ishbosheth{gr.Jebosthe}; and he was sleeping on a bed at noon.

 4:5 And the sons° of Rimmon° the Beerothite,° Rechab° and Baanah,°° went,°°° and came°° about the heat° of the day° to° the house° of Ishbosheth,° who° lay°° on° a bed° at noon.°

 4:6 And, behold, the porter of the house winnowed wheat, and he slumbered and slept: and the brothers Rechab and Baanah{gr.Baana} went privily into the house:

 4:6 And they came° thither°°° into° the midst° of the house,° [as though] they would have fetched°° wheat;° and they smote°° him under° the fifth° [rib]: and Rechab° and Baanah° his brother° escaped.°°

 4:7 And Ishbosheth{gr.Jebosthe} was sleeping on his bed in his chamber: and they smite him, and slay him, and take off his head: and they took his head, and went all the night by the western road.

 4:7 For when they came°° into the house,° he° lay°° on° his bed° in his bedchamber,°° and they smote°° him, and slew°° him, and beheaded°°°° him, and took°°° his head,° and gat them away°°° through° the plain° all° night.°

 4:8 And they brought the head of Ishbosheth{gr.Jebosthe} to David to Hebron{gr.Chebron}, and they said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth{gr.Jebosthe} the son of Saul thy enemy, who sought thy life; and the Lord has executed for my lord the king vengeance on his enemies, as [it is] this day: even on Saul thy enemy, and on his seed.

 4:8 And they brought°°° the head° of Ishbosheth° unto° David° to Hebron,° and said°° to° the king,° Behold° the head° of Ishbosheth° the son° of Saul° thine enemy,°° which° sought°°° thy life;° and Yahweh° hath°° avenged°° my adon° the king° this° day° of Saul,°° and of his seed.°°

 4:9 ¶ And David answered and Rechab and Baanah{gr.Baana} his brother, the sons of Rimmon{gr.Remmon} the Berothite, and said to them, [As] the Lord lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all affliction;

 4:9 ¶ And David° answered°°° Rechab° and Baanah° his brother,° the sons° of Rimmon° the Beerothite,° and said°° unto them, [As] Yahweh° liveth,° who° hath redeemed°°° my soul° out of all°° adversity,°

 4:10 he that reported to me that Saul was dead, even he was as one bringing glad tidings before me: but I seized him and slew him in Ziklag{gr.Sekelac}, to whom I ought, [as he thought], to have given a reward for his tidings.

 4:10 When° one told°° me, saying,°° Behold,° Saul° is dead,°° thinking° to have° brought° good tidings,°° I took hold°° of him, and slew°° him in Ziklag,° who° [thought] that I would have given°° him a reward for his tidings:°

 4:11 And now evil men have slain a righteous men in his house on his bed: now then I will require his blood of your hand, and I will destroy you from off the earth.

 4:11 How much more,° when° wicked° men°° have slain°°° a righteous° person° in his own house° upon° his bed?° shall I not° therefore now° require°°° his blood° of your hand,°° and take you away°°° from° the earth?°

 4:12 And David commanded his young men, and they slay them, and cut off their hands and their feet; and they hung them up at the fountain in Hebron{gr.Chebron}: and they buried the head of Ishbosheth{gr.Jebosthe} in the tomb of Abenezer the son of Ner.

 4:12 And David° commanded°°° his young men,° and they slew°° them, and cut off°°° their hands° and their feet,° and hanged [them] up°° over° the pool° in Hebron.° But they took°° the head° of Ishbosheth,° and buried°° [it] in the sepulchre° of Abner° in Hebron.°
