1 Timothy 5

1 Rules to be observed in reproving. 3 Of widows. 17 Of elders. 23 A precept for Timothy's health. 24 Some men's sins go before unto judgment, and some men's do follow after.

 5:1 Do not sharply 1969 rebuke 1969 an older 4245 man 4245, but [rather] appeal 3870 to [him] as a father 3962, [to] the younger 3501b men 3501b as brothers 80,

 5:2 the older 4245 women 4245 as mothers 3384, [and] the younger 3501b women 4245 as sisters 79, in all 3956 purity 47.

 5:3 ¶ Honor 5091 widows 5503 who are widows 5503 indeed 3689;

 5:4 but if 1487 any 5100 widow 5503 has 2192 children 5043 or 2228 grandchildren 1549, they must first 4413 learn 3129 to practice 2151 piety 2151 in regard to their own 2398 family 3624 and to make 591 some return 591 to their parents 4269; for this 3778 is acceptable 587 in the sight 1799 of God 2316.

 5:5 Now 1161 she who is a widow 5503 indeed 3689 and who has been left 3443 alone 3443, has fixed 1679 her hope 1679 on God 2316 and continues 4357 in entreaties 1162 and prayers 4335 night 3571 and day 2250.

 5:6 But she who gives 4684 herself 4684 to wanton 4684 pleasure 4684 is dead 2348 even while she lives 2198.

 5:7 Prescribe 3853 these 3778 things 3778 as well 2532, so 2443 that they may be above 423 reproach 423.

 5:8 But if 1487 anyone 5100 does not provide 4306 for his own 2398, and especially 3122 for those of his household 3609b, he has denied 720 the faith 4102 and is worse 5501 than an unbeliever 571.

 5:9 ¶ A widow 5503 is to be put 2639 on the list 2639 only if she is not less 1640 than sixty 1835 years 2094 old, [having been] the wife 1135 of one 1520 man 435,

 5:10 having 3140 a reputation 3140 for good 2570 works 2041; [and] if 1487 she has brought 5044 up children 5044, if 1487 she has shown 3580 hospitality 3580 to strangers 3580, if 1487 she has washed 3538 the saints’ 40 feet 4228, if 1487 she has assisted 1884b those in distress 2346, [and] if 1487 she has devoted 1872 herself 1872 to every 3956 good 18 work 2041.

 5:11 But refuse 3868 [to put] younger 3501b widows 5503 [on the list], for when 3752 they feel 2691 sensual 2691 desires 2691 in disregard 2691 of Christ 5547, they want 2309 to get 1060 married 1060,

 5:12 [thus] incurring 2192 condemnation 2917, because 3754 they have set 114 aside 114 their previous 4413 pledge 4102.

 5:13 At the same 260 time 260 they also 2532 learn 3129 [to be] idle 692, as they go 4022 around 4022 from house 3614 to house 3614; and not merely 3441 idle 692, but also 2532 gossips 5397 and busybodies 4021, talking 2980 about things 1189b not proper 1189b [to mention].

 5:14 Therefore 3767, I want 1014 younger 3501b [widows] to get 1060 married 1060, bear 5041 children 5041, keep 3616 house 3616, [and] give 1325 the enemy 480 no 3367 occasion 874 for reproach 3059;

 5:15 for some 5100 have already 2235 turned 1624 aside 1624 to follow 3694 Satan 4567.

 5:16 If 1487 any 5100 woman 5100 who is a believer 4103 has 2192 [dependent] widows 5503, she must assist 1884b them and the church 1577 must not be burdened 916, so 2443 that it may assist 1884b those 3588 who are widows 5503 indeed 3689.

 5:17 ¶ The elders 4245 who rule 4291b well 2573 are to be considered 515 worthy 515 of double 1362 honor 5092, especially 3122 those 3588 who work 2872 hard 2872 at preaching 3056 and teaching 1319.

 5:18 For the Scripture 1124 says 3004, “YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE 5392 THE OX 1016 WHILE HE IS THRESHING 248,” and “The laborer 2040 is worthy 514 of his wages 3408.”

 5:19 Do not receive 3858 an accusation 2724 against 2596 an elder 4245 except 1622 1508 on the basis 1909 of two 1417 or 2228 three 5140 witnesses 3144.

 5:20 Those 3588 who continue in sin 264, rebuke 1651 in the presence 1799 of all 3956, so 2443 that the rest 3062 also 2532 will be fearful 5401 [of sinning].

 5:21 I solemnly 1263 charge 1263 you in the presence 1799 of God 2316 and of Christ 5547 Jesus 2424 and of [His] chosen 1588 angels 32a, to maintain 5442 these 3778 [principles] without 5565 bias 4299, doing 4160 nothing 3367 in a [spirit of] partiality 4346b.

 5:22 Do not lay 2007 hands 5495 upon anyone 3367 [too] hastily 5030 and thereby 3366 share 2841 [responsibility for] the sins 266 of others 245; keep 5083 yourself 4572 free 53 from sin 53.

 5:23 ¶ No 3371 longer 3371 drink 5202 water 5202 [exclusively], but use 5530 a little 3641 wine 3631 for the sake 1223 of your stomach 4751 and your frequent 4437 ailments 769.

 5:24 ¶ The sins 266 of some 5100 men 444 are quite 4271 evident 4271, going 4254 before 4254 them to judgment 2920; for others 5100, their [sins] follow 1872 after 1872.

 5:25 Likewise 5615 also 2532, deeds 2041 that are good 2570 are quite 4271 evident 4271, and those 3588 which are otherwise 247 cannot 1410 3756 be concealed 2928.
