Hosea 4

1 God's judgments against the sins of the people, 6 and of the priests, 12 and against their idolatry. 15 Judah is exhorted to take warning by Israel's calamity.

 4:1 Listen 8085 to the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, O sons 1121 of Israel 3478, For the LORD 3068 has a case 7379 against 5973 the inhabitants 3427 of the land 776, Because 3588 there 369 is no 369 faithfulness 571 or kindness 2617a Or knowledge 1847 of God 430 in the land 776.

 4:2 [There is] swearing 422, deception 3584, murder 7523, stealing 1589 and adultery 5003. They employ 6555 violence 6555, so that bloodshed 1818 follows 5060 bloodshed 1818.

 4:3 Therefore 5921 3651 the land 776 mourns 56, And everyone 3605 who lives 3427 in it languishes 535 Along with the beasts 2421b of the field 7704 and the birds 5775 of the sky 8064, And also 1571 the fish 1709 of the sea 3220 disappear 622.

 4:4 ¶ Yet 389 let no 408 one 376 find 7378 fault 7378, and let none 408 376 offer 3198 reproof 3198; For your people 5971a are like those who contend 7378 with the priest 3548.

 4:5 So you will stumble 3782 by day 3117, And the prophet 5030 also 1571 will stumble 3782 with you by night 3915; And I will destroy 1820 your mother 517.

 4:6 My people 5971a are destroyed 1820 for lack 369 of knowledge 1847. Because 3588 you have rejected 3988a knowledge 1847, I also will reject 3988a you from being My priest 3547. Since you have forgotten 7911 the law 8451 of your God 430, I also 1571 will forget 7911 your children 1121.

 4:7 ¶ The more they multiplied 7231, the more 3651 they sinned 2398 against Me; I will change 4171 their glory 3519b into shame 7036.

 4:8 They feed 398 on the sin 2403b of My people 5971a And direct 5375 their desire 5315 toward 413 their iniquity 5771.

 4:9 And it will be, like people 5971a, like priest 3548; So I will punish 6485 them for their ways 1870 And repay 7725 them for their deeds 4611.

 4:10 They will eat 398, but not have 7646 enough 7646; They will play 2181 the harlot 2181, but not increase 6555, Because 3588 they have stopped 5800a giving 8104 heed 8104 to the LORD 3068.

 4:11 ¶ Harlotry 2184, wine 3196 and new 8492 wine 8492 take 3947 away the understanding 3820.

 4:12 My people 5971a consult 7592 their wooden 6086 idol, and their [diviner’s] wand 4731 informs 5046 them; For a spirit 7307 of harlotry 2183 has led 8582 [them] astray 8582, And they have played 2181 the harlot 2181, [departing] from their God 430.

 4:13 They offer 2076 sacrifices 2076 on the tops 7218 of the mountains 2022 And burn 6999 incense 6999 on the hills 1389, Under 8478 oak 437, poplar 3839 and terebinth 424, Because 3588 their shade 6738 is pleasant 2896a. Therefore 5921 3651 your daughters 1323 play 2181 the harlot 2181 And your brides 3618 commit 5003 adultery 5003.

 4:14 I will not punish 6485 your daughters 1323 when 3588 they play 2181 the harlot 2181 Or your brides 3618 when 3588 they commit 5003 adultery 5003, For [the men] themselves 1992a go 6504 apart 6504 with harlots 2181 And offer 2076 sacrifices 2076 with temple 6945 prostitutes 6945; So the people 5971a without 3808 understanding 995 are ruined 3832.

 4:15 ¶ Though 518 you, Israel 3478, play 2181 the harlot 2181, Do not let Judah 3063 become 816 guilty 816; Also do not go 935 to Gilgal 1537, Or go 5927 up to Beth-aven 1007b And take 7650 the oath 7650: “As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a!”

 4:16 Since 3588 Israel 3478 is stubborn 5637 Like a stubborn 5637 heifer 6499, Can the LORD 3068 now 6258 pasture 7462a them Like a lamb 3532 in a large 4800 field 4800?

 4:17 Ephraim 669 is joined 2266 to idols 6091; Let 5117 him alone 5117.

 4:18 Their liquor 5435 gone 5493, They play 2181 the harlot 2181 continually 2181; Their rulers 4043 dearly 157 love 157 shame 7036.

 4:19 The wind 7307 wraps 6887a them in its wings 3671, And they will be ashamed 954 because 4480 of their sacrifices 2077.
