 14:1 ¶ And allº the congregationº lifted upººº their voice,º and cried;ºº and the peopleº weptºº thatº night.º

 14:1 ¶ And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

 14:2 And allº the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº murmuredºº againstº Möšè מֹשֶׁהº and againstº ´Ahárön אַהֲרֹן:º and the wholeº congregationº saidºº untoº them, Would Godº thatº we had diedºº in the landº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם!º orº would Godº we had diedºº in thisº wilderness!º

 14:2 And all the children of Yisrael murmured against Mosheh and against Aharon: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Mitzrayim! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

 14:3 And whereforeº hath Yähwè יָהוֶהº broughtºº us untoº thisº land,º to fallºº by the sword,º that our wivesº and our childrenº should beº a prey?º were it notº betterº for us to returnºº into Mixrayim מִצרַיִם?º

 14:3 And wherefore hath Yahweh brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Mitzrayim?

 14:4 And they saidºº oneº toº another,º Let us makeºº a captain,º and let us returnºº into Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.º

 14:4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Mitzrayim.

 14:5 Then Möšè מֹשֶׁהº and ´Ahárön אַהֲרֹןº fellºº onº their facesº beforeº allº the assemblyº of the congregationº of the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 14:5 Then Mosheh and Aharon fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Yisrael.

 14:6 ¶ And Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº the sonº of Nûn נוּן,º and Cälëv כָּלֵבº the sonº of Yæfunnè יְפֻנֶּה,º [which were] ofº them that searchedººº the land,º rentºº their clothes:º

 14:6 ¶ And Yehoshua the son of Nun, and Kalev the son of Yefunneh, [which were] of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

 14:7 And they spakeºº untoº allº the companyº of the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º saying,ºº The land,º whichº we passedºº throughº to searchºº it, [is] an exceedingº goodº land.º

 14:7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Yisrael, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, [is] an exceeding good land.

 14:8 Ifº Yähwè יָהוֶהº delightºº in us, then he will bringºº us intoº thisº land,º and giveºº it us; a landº whichº flowethºº with milkº and honey.º

 14:8 If Yahweh delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

 14:9 Onlyº rebelºº notº ye against Yähwè יָהוֶה,º neitherº fearºº yeºº the peopleº of the land;º forº theyº [are] breadº for us: their defenceº is departedºº fromºº them, and Yähwè יָהוֶהº [is] withº us: fearºº them not.º

 14:9 Only rebel not ye against Yahweh, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they [are] bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and Yahweh [is] with us: fear them not.

 14:10 But allº the congregationº badeºº stoneºº them with stones.º And the gloryº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº appearedºº in the tabernacleº of the congregationº beforeº allº the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 14:10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of Yahweh appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Yisrael.

 14:11 ¶ And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº Möšè מֹשֶׁה,º How longºº will thisº peopleº provokeºº me? and how longºº will it be ereº they believeºº me, for allº the signsº whichº I have shewedºº amongº them?

 14:11 ¶ And Yahweh said unto Mosheh, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

 14:12 I will smiteºº them with the pestilence,º and disinheritºº them, and will makeºº of thee a greaterº nationº and mightierº thanº they.

 14:12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

 14:13 ¶ And Möšè מֹשֶׁהº saidºº untoº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º Then the Mixrîm מִצרִיםº shall hearºº [it], (forº thou broughtest upººº thisº peopleº in thy mightº from amongºº them;)

 14:13 ¶ And Mosheh said unto Yahweh, Then the Mitzrim shall hear [it], (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)

 14:14 And they will tellºº [it] toº the inhabitantsºº of thisº land:º [for] they have heardºº thatº thouº Yähwè יָהוֶהº [art] amongº thisº people,º thatº thouº Yähwè יָהוֶהº art seenºº faceº to face,º and [that] thy cloudº standethºº overº them, and [that] thouº goestºº beforeº them, by day timeº in a pillarº of a cloud,º and in a pillarº of fireº by night.º

 14:14 And they will tell [it] to the inhabitants of this land: [for] they have heard that thou Yahweh [art] among this people, that thou Yahweh art seen face to face, and [that] thy cloud standeth over them, and [that] thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

 14:15 ¶ Now [if] thou shalt killºº [all]º thisº peopleº as oneº man,º then the nationsº whichº have heardººº the fameº of thee will speak,ºº saying,ºº

 14:15 ¶ Now [if] thou shalt kill [all] this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

 14:16 Becauseºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº was notº ableºº to bringººº thisº peopleº intoº the landº whichº he swareºº unto them, therefore he hath slainºº them in the wilderness.º

 14:16 Because Yahweh was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

 14:17 And now,º I beseech thee,º let the powerº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº be great,ºº accordingº asº thou hast spoken,ºº saying,ºº

 14:17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of Yahweh be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

 14:18 Yähwè יָהוֶהº [is] longsuffering,ºº and of greatº mercy,º forgivingºº iniquityº and transgression,º and by no meansºº clearingººº [the guilty], visitingºº the iniquityº of the fathersº uponº the childrenº untoº the thirdº and fourthº [generation].

 14:18 Yahweh [is] longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing [the guilty], visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation].

 14:19 Pardon,ºº I beseech thee,º the iniquityº of thisº peopleº according unto the greatnessº of thy mercy,º and asº thou hast forgivenºº thisº people,º from Mixrayim מִצרַיִםºº even untilº now.º

 14:19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Mitzrayim even until now.

 14:20 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº said,ºº I have pardonedºº according to thy word:º

 14:20 And Yahweh said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

 14:21 But [as] trulyº [as] Iº live,ºº allº the earthº shall be filledºº with the gloryº of Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 14:21 But [as] truly [as] I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Yahweh.

 14:22 Becauseº allº those menºº which have seenººº my glory,º and my miracles,º whichº I didºº in Mixrayim מִצרַיִםº and in the wilderness,º and have temptedººº me now theseº tenº times,º and have notº hearkenedºº to my voice;º

 14:22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Mitzrayim and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

 14:23 Surelyº they shall notº seeººº the landº whichº I swareºº unto their fathers,º neitherº shall anyº of them that provokedºº me seeºº it:

 14:23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

 14:24 But my servantº Cälëv כָּלֵב,º becauseº he hadº anotherº spiritº withº him, and hath followedº me fully,ººº him will I bringºº intoº the landº whereintoºº he went;ºº and his seedº shall possessºº it.

 14:24 But my servant Kalev, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

 14:25 (Now the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִיםº and the Cæna`ánîm כְּנַעֲנִיםº dweltºº in the valley.)º To morrowº turnºº you, and getºº you into the wildernessº by the wayº of the Sûf סוּףº sea.º

 14:25 (Now the Amaleqim and the Kenaanim dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Suf sea.

 14:26 ¶ And Yähwè יָהוֶהº spakeºº untoº Möšè מֹשֶׁהº and untoº ´Ahárön אַהֲרֹן,º saying,ºº

 14:26 ¶ And Yahweh spake unto Mosheh and unto Aharon, saying,

 14:27 How longºº [shall I bear with] thisº evilº congregation,º whichº murmurºº againstº me? I have heardººº the murmuringsº of the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º whichº theyº murmurºº againstº me.

 14:27 How long [shall I bear with] this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Yisrael, which they murmur against me.

 14:28 Sayºº untoº them, [As truly as]º Iº live,º saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º asº ye have spokenºº in mine ears,º soº will I doºº to you:

 14:28 Say unto them, [As truly as] I live, saith Yahweh, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

 14:29 Your carcasesº shall fallºº in thisº wilderness;º and allº that were numberedºº of you, according to your wholeº number,º from twentyº yearsº oldºº and upward,º whichº have murmuredºº againstº me,

 14:29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,

 14:30 Doubtlessº yeº shall notº comeºº intoº the land,º [concerning] whichº I swareºººº to make you dwellºº therein, saveºº Cälëv כָּלֵבº the sonº of Yæfunnè יְפֻנֶּה,º and Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº the sonº of Nûn נוּן.º

 14:30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, [concerning] which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Kalev the son of Yefunneh, and Yehoshua the son of Nun.

 14:31 But your little ones,º whichº ye saidºº should beº a prey,º them will I bring in,ºº and they shall knowººº the landº whichº ye have despised.ºº

 14:31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

 14:32 But [as for] you,º your carcases,º they shall fallºº in thisº wilderness.º

 14:32 But [as for] you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.

 14:33 And your childrenº shall wanderººº in the wildernessº fortyº years,º and bearººº your whoredoms,º untilº your carcasesº be wastedºº in the wilderness.º

 14:33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

 14:34 After the numberº of the daysº in whichº ye searchedººº the land,º [even] fortyº days,º each dayº for a year,ºº shall ye bearººº your iniquities,º [even] fortyº years,º and ye shall knowººº my breach of promise.º

 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, [even] forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, [even] forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

 14:35 Iº Yähwè יָהוֶהº have said,ºº I will surelyºº doºº itº unto allº thisº evilº congregation,º that are gathered togetherºº againstº me: in thisº wildernessº they shall be consumed,ºº and thereº they shall die.ºº

 14:35 I Yahweh have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

 14:36 And the men,ºº whichº Möšè מֹשֶׁהº sentºº to searchººº the land,º who returned,ºº and madeº allº the congregationº to murmurºººº againstº him, by bringing upºº a slanderº uponº the land,º

 14:36 And the men, which Mosheh sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,

 14:37 Even thoseº menºº that did bring upºº the evilº reportº upon the land,º diedºº by the plagueº beforeº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 14:37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before Yahweh.

 14:38 But Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº the sonº of Nûn נוּן,º and Cälëv כָּלֵבº the sonº of Yæfunnè יְפֻנֶּה,º [which were] ofº the menººº that wentºº to searchººº the land,º livedºº [still].

 14:38 But Yehoshua the son of Nun, and Kalev the son of Yefunneh, [which were] of the men that went to search the land, lived [still].

 14:39 And Möšè מֹשֶׁהº toldººº theseº sayingsº untoº allº the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º and the peopleº mournedºº greatly.º

 14:39 And Mosheh told these sayings unto all the children of Yisrael: and the people mourned greatly.

 14:40 ¶ And they rose up earlyºº in the morning,º and gat them upºº intoº the topº of the mountain,º saying,ºº Lo,º we [be here], and will go upºº untoº the placeº whichº Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath promised:ºº forº we have sinned.ºº

 14:40 ¶ And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we [be here], and will go up unto the place which Yahweh hath promised: for we have sinned.

 14:41 And Möšè מֹשֶׁהº said,ºº Whereforeº nowº do yeº transgressººº the commandmentº of Yähwè יָהוֶה?º but itº shall notº prosper.ºº

 14:41 And Mosheh said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of Yahweh? but it shall not prosper.

 14:42 Go not up,ººº forº Yähwè יָהוֶהº [is] notº amongº you; that ye be notº smittenºº beforeº your enemies.ºº

 14:42 Go not up, for Yahweh [is] not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

 14:43 Forº the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִיםº and the Cæna`ánîm כְּנַעֲנִיםº [are] thereº beforeº you, and ye shall fallºº by the sword:º becauseººº ye are turnedºº awayºº fromºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º therefore Yähwè יָהוֶהº will notº beº withº you.

 14:43 For the Amaleqim and the Kenaanim [are] there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from Yahweh, therefore Yahweh will not be with you.

 14:44 But they presumedºº to go upºº untoº the hillº top:º nevertheless the arkº of the covenantº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and Möšè מֹשֶׁה,º departedºº notº outº ofºº the camp.º

 14:44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and Mosheh, departed not out of the camp.

 14:45 Then the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִיםº came down,ºº and the Cæna`ánîm כְּנַעֲנִיםº which dweltºº in thatº hill,º and smoteºº them, and discomfitedºº them, [even] untoº Çormà חָרמָה.º

 14:45 Then the Amaleqim came down, and the Kenaanim which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, [even] unto Chormah.
