 24:1 ¶ And Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº gatheredººº allº the tribesº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº to Šæ¢em שְׁכֶם,º and calledºº for the eldersº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and for their heads,º and for their judges,ºº and for their officers;ºº and they presentedºº themselvesº beforeº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 24:1 ¶ And Yehoshua gathered all the tribes of Yisrael to Shekhem, and called for the elders of Yisrael, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before Elohim.

 24:2 And Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº saidºº untoº allº the people,º Thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º Your fathersº dweltºº on the other sideº of the floodº in old time,ºº [even] Teraç תֶּרַח,º the fatherº of ´Avrähäm אַברָהָם,º and the fatherº of Näçôr נָחוֹר:º and they servedºº otherº ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 24:2 And Yehoshua said unto all the people, Thus saith Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, [even] Terach, the father of Avraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other elohim.

 24:3 And I tookººº your fatherºº ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº from the other sideºº of the flood,º and ledººº him throughout allº the landº of Cænä`an כְּנָעַן,º and multipliedººº his seed,º and gaveºº himº Yixçäk יִצחָק.º

 24:3 And I took your father Avraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Kenaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Yitzchaq.

 24:4 And I gaveºº unto Yixçäk יִצחָקºº Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº and `Ë$äw עֵשָׂו:º and I gaveºº unto `Ë$äw עֵשָׂוºº mountº §ë`îr שֵׂעִיר,º to possessºº it; but Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº and his childrenº went downºº into Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.º

 24:4 And I gave unto Yitzchaq Yaaqov and Esaw: and I gave unto Esaw mount Seir, to possess it; but Yaaqov and his children went down into Mitzrayim.

 24:5 I sentººº Möšè מֹשֶׁהº also and ´Ahárön אַהֲרֹן,º and I plaguedººº Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º according to that whichº I didºº amongº them: and afterwardº I brought you out.ººº

 24:5 I sent Mosheh also and Aharon, and I plagued Mitzrayim, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.

 24:6 And I broughtºº your fathersº outººº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם:ºº and ye cameºº unto the sea;º and the Mixrîm מִצרִיםº pursuedºº afterº your fathersº with chariotsº and horsemenº unto the Sûf סוּףº sea.º

 24:6 And I brought your fathers out of Mitzrayim: and ye came unto the sea; and the Mitzrim pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Suf sea.

 24:7 And when they criedºº untoº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º he putºº darknessº betweenº you and the Mixrîm מִצרִים,º and broughtººº the seaº uponº them, and coveredºº them; and your eyesº have seenººº whatº I have doneºº in Mixrayim מִצרַיִם:º and ye dweltºº in the wildernessº a longº season.º

 24:7 And when they cried unto Yahweh, he put darkness between you and the Mitzrim, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Mitzrayim: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

 24:8 And I broughtºº you intoº the landº of the ´Émörîm אֱמֹרִים,º which dweltºº on the other sideº Yardën יַרדֵּן;º and they foughtºº withº you: and I gaveºº them into your hand,º that ye might possessººº their land;º and I destroyedºº them from beforeºº you.

 24:8 And I brought you into the land of the Emorim, which dwelt on the other side Yarden; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

 24:9 Then Bäläk בָּלָקº the sonº of Xippôr צִפּוֹר,º kingº of Mô´äv מוֹאָב,º aroseºº and warredºº against Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and sentºº and calledºº Bil`äm בִּלעָםº the sonº of Bæ`ôr בְּעוֹרº to curseºº you:

 24:9 Then Balaq the son of Tzippor, king of Moav, arose and warred against Yisrael, and sent and called Bilam the son of Beor to curse you:

 24:10 But I wouldºº notº hearkenºº unto Bil`äm בִּלעָם;º therefore he blessedºº you still:ºº so I deliveredºº you out of his hand.ºº

 24:10 But I would not hearken unto Bilam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.

 24:11 And ye went overººº Yardën יַרדֵּן,º and cameºº untoº Yærîçô יְרִיחוֹ:º and the menº of Yærîçô יְרִיחוֹº foughtºº against you, the ´Émörîm אֱמֹרִים,º and the Pærizzîm פְּרִזִּים,º and the Cæna`ánîm כְּנַעֲנִים,º and the Çittîm חִתִּים,º and the Girgäšîm גִּרגָּשִׁים,º the Çiwwîm חִוִּים,º and the Yævûsîm יְבוּסִים;º and I deliveredºº them into your hand.º

 24:11 And ye went over Yarden, and came unto Yericho: and the men of Yericho fought against you, the Emorim, and the Perizzim, and the Kenaanim, and the Chittim, and the Girgashim, the Chiwwim, and the Yevusim; and I delivered them into your hand.

 24:12 And I sentººº the hornetº beforeº you, which drave them outººº from beforeºº you, [even] the twoº kingsº of the ´Émörîm אֱמֹרִים;º [but] notº with thy sword,º norº with thy bow.º

 24:12 And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, [even] the two kings of the Emorim; [but] not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

 24:13 And I have givenºº you a landº for whichº ye did notº labour,ºº and citiesº whichº ye builtºº not,º and ye dwellºº in them; of the vineyardsº and oliveyardsº whichº ye plantedºº notº do yeº eat.ºº

 24:13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

 24:14 ¶ Now thereforeº fearººº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and serveºº him in sincerityº and in truth:º and put awayººº the ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº whichº your fathersº servedºº on the other sideº of the flood,º and in Mixrayim מִצרַיִם;º and serveºº yeº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 24:14 ¶ Now therefore fear Yahweh, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the elohim which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Mitzrayim; and serve ye Yahweh.

 24:15 And ifº it seem evilºº unto youºº to serveººº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º chooseºº you this dayºº whomºº ye will serve;ºº whetherºº the ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº whichº your fathersº servedºº thatº [were] on the other sideº of the flood,º orºº the ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of the ´Émörîm אֱמֹרִים,º in whose landº yeº dwell:ºº but as for meº and my house,º we will serveººº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve Yahweh, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the elohim which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the elohim of the Emorim, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.

 24:16 And the peopleº answeredºº and said,ºº God forbidº that we should forsakeºººº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º to serveºº otherº ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִים;º

 24:16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake Yahweh, to serve other elohim;

 24:17 Forº Yähwè יָהוֶהº our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º heº [it is] that broughtº us upºº and our fathersº out of the landºº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º from the houseºº of bondage,º and whichº didºº thoseº greatºº signsº in our sight,º and preservedºº us in allº the wayº whereinº we went,ºº and among allº the peopleº throughº whom we passed:ºº

 24:17 For Yahweh our Elohim, he [it is] that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Mitzrayim, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:

 24:18 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº drave outºº from beforeºº usº allº the people,º even the ´Émörîm אֱמֹרִיםº which dweltºº in the land:º [therefore] will weº alsoº serveººº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º forº heº [is] our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 24:18 And Yahweh drave out from before us all the people, even the Emorim which dwelt in the land: [therefore] will we also serve Yahweh; for he [is] our Elohim.

 24:19 And Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº saidºº untoº the people,º Ye cannotººº serveººº Yähwè יָהוֶה:º forº heº [is] an holyº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים;º heº [is] a jealousº ´Ël אֵל;º he will notº forgiveºº your transgressionsº nor your sins.º

 24:19 And Yehoshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve Yahweh: for he [is] an holy Elohim; he [is] a jealous El; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

 24:20 Ifº ye forsakeººº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and serveºº strangeº ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º then he will turnºº and do you hurt,ºº and consumeºº you, afterº thatº he hath done you good.ºº

 24:20 If ye forsake Yahweh, and serve strange elohim, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

 24:21 And the peopleº saidºº untoº Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,º Nay;º butº we will serveººº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 24:21 And the people said unto Yehoshua, Nay; but we will serve Yahweh.

 24:22 And Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº saidºº untoº the people,º Yeº [are] witnessesº against yourselves thatº yeº have chosenºº youº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º to serveºº him. And they said,ºº [We are] witnesses.º

 24:22 And Yehoshua said unto the people, Ye [are] witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you Yahweh, to serve him. And they said, [We are] witnesses.

 24:23 Nowº therefore put away,ºº [said he], theº strangeº ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº whichº [are] amongº you, and inclineººº your heartº untoº Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 24:23 Now therefore put away, [said he], the strange elohim which [are] among you, and incline your heart unto Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael.

 24:24 And the peopleº saidºº untoº Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,ºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº will we serve,ºº and his voiceº will we obey.ºº

 24:24 And the people said unto Yehoshua, Yahweh our Elohim will we serve, and his voice will we obey.

 24:25 So Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº madeºº a covenantº with the peopleº thatº day,º and setºº them a statuteº and an ordinanceº in Šæ¢em שְׁכֶם.º

 24:25 So Yehoshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shekhem.

 24:26 ¶ And Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº wroteºº theseºº wordsº in the bookº of the lawº of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º and tookºº a greatº stone,º and set it upºº thereº underº an oak,º thatº [was] by the sanctuaryº of Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 24:26 ¶ And Yehoshua wrote these words in the book of the law of Elohim, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that [was] by the sanctuary of Yahweh.

 24:27 And Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº saidºº untoº allº the people,º Behold,º thisº stoneº shall beº a witnessº unto us; forº itº hath heardººº allº the wordsº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº whichº he spakeºº untoº us: it shall beº therefore a witnessº unto you, lestº ye denyºº your ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 24:27 And Yehoshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of Yahweh which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your Elohim.

 24:28 So Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº letº the peopleº depart,ºº every manº unto his inheritance.º

 24:28 So Yehoshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.

 24:29 ¶ And it came to passº afterº theseº things,º that Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº the sonº of Nûn נוּן,º the servantº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º died,ºº [being] an hundredº and tenº yearsº old.ºº

 24:29 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that Yehoshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, [being] an hundred and ten years old.

 24:30 And they buriedºº him in the borderº of his inheritanceº in Timna± Seraç תִּמנַת־סֶרַח,º whichº [is] in mountº ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִם,º on the north sideºº of the hillº of Gä`aš גָּעַשׁ.º

 24:30 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-Serach, which [is] in mount Efrayim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.

 24:31 And Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº servedººº Yähwè יָהוֶהº allº the daysº of Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,º and allº the daysº of the eldersº thatº overlivedºººº Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,º and whichº had knownººº allº the worksº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º thatº he had doneºº for Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 24:31 And Yisrael served Yahweh all the days of Yehoshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Yehoshua, and which had known all the works of Yahweh, that he had done for Yisrael.

 24:32 ¶ And the bonesº of Yôsëf יוֹסֵף,º whichº the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº brought upºº out of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,ºº buriedºº they in Šæ¢em שְׁכֶם,º in a parcelº of groundº whichº Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº boughtºº ofºº the sonsº of Çámôr חֲמוֹרº the fatherº of Šæ¢em שְׁכֶםºº for an hundredº pieces of silver:º and it becameº the inheritanceº of the childrenº of Yôsëf יוֹסֵף.º

 24:32 ¶ And the bones of Yosef, which the children of Yisrael brought up out of Mitzrayim, buried they in Shekhem, in a parcel of ground which Yaaqov bought of the sons of Chamor the father of Shekhem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Yosef.

 24:33 And ´El`äzär אֶלעָזָרº the sonº of ´Ahárön אַהֲרֹןº died;ºº and they buriedºº him in a hillº [that pertained to] Pînçäs פִּינחָסº his son,º whichº was givenºº him in mountº ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִם.º

 24:33 And Elazar the son of Aharon died; and they buried him in a hill [that pertained to] Pinchas his son, which was given him in mount Efrayim.
