and the anger°

against the children°

7:1 ¶
But the children of Yisrael committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Akhan, the son of Karmi, the son of Zavdi, the son of Zerach, of the tribe of Yehudah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of Yahweh was kindled against the children of Yisrael. |

Go up°°
and view°°°
the country.°
And the men°°
went up°°
and viewed°°°

And Yehoshua sent men from Yericho to Ay, which [is] beside Beth-Awen, on the east side of Beth-El, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ay. |

And they returned°°

יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,°
and said°°
unto°
him, Let not°
all°
the people°
go up;°°
but let about two°
or°
three°
thousand°
men°
go up°°
and smite°°°
`Ay
עַי;°
[and] make not°°
all°
the people°
to labour°°
thither;°
for°
they°
[are but] few.° |

And they returned to Yehoshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ay; [and] make not all the people to labour thither; for they [are but] few. |
|

So there went up°°
thither°
of°
the people°
about three°
thousand°
men:°
and they fled°°
before°
the men°°
of
`Ay
עַי.° |

So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ay. |

them about thirty°

men:°
for they chased°°
them [from] before°
the gate°
[even] unto°
Šævärîm
שְׁבָרִים,°
and smote°°
them in the going down:°
wherefore the hearts°
of the people°

and became°

And the men of Ay smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them [from] before the gate [even] unto Shevarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water. |

And Yehoshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of Yahweh until the eventide, he and the elders of Yisrael, and put dust upon their heads. |

יָהוֶה,°

us into the hand°

´Émörîm
אֱמֹרִים,°
to destroy°°
us? would to God°
we had been content,°°
and dwelt°°
on the other side°

And Yehoshua said, Alas, O Adonay Yahweh, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Yarden, to deliver us into the hand of the Emorim, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Yarden! |

O Yahweh, what shall I say, when Yisrael turneth their backs before their enemies! |

כְּנַעֲנִים°
and all°
the inhabitants°°
of the land°
shall hear°°
[of it], and shall environ us round,°°°
and cut off°°°
our name°
from°
the earth:°
and what°
wilt thou do°°
unto thy great°
name?° |

For the Kenaanim and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear [of it], and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name? |

7:10 ¶

Get thee up;°°

And Yahweh said unto Yehoshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? |

and they have also°
transgressed°°°
my covenant°
which°
I commanded°°
them: for they have even°
taken°°
of°
the accursed thing,°
and have also°
stolen,°°
and dissembled°°
also,°
and they have put°°
[it] even°
among their own stuff.° |

Yisrael hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put [it] even among their own stuff. |

Therefore the children°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
could°°
not°
stand°°
before°
their enemies,°°
[but] turned°°
[their] backs°
before°
their enemies,°°
because°
they were°
accursed:°
neither°
will I be°
with°
you any more,°°
except°°
ye destroy°°
the accursed°
from among°°
you. |

Therefore the children of Yisrael could not stand before their enemies, [but] turned [their] backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. |

sanctify°°°
the people,°
and say,°°
Sanctify°°
yourselves°
against to morrow:°
for°

Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, [There is] an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Yisrael: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you. |
|
7:14
In the morning°
therefore ye shall be brought°°
according to your tribes:°
and it shall be,°
[that] the tribe°
which°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
taketh°°
shall come°°
according to the families°
[thereof]; and the family°
which°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
shall take°°
shall come°°
by households;°
and the household°
which°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°

In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, [that] the tribe which Yahweh taketh shall come according to the families [thereof]; and the family which Yahweh shall take shall come by households; and the household which Yahweh shall take shall come man by man. |
|
7:15
And it shall be,°
[that] he that is taken°°
with the accursed thing°
shall be burnt°°
with fire,°
he and all°
that°
he hath: because°
he hath transgressed°°°
the covenant°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
and because°
he hath wrought°°
folly°
in
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |

And it shall be, [that] he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of Yahweh, and because he hath wrought folly in Yisrael. |
|
7:16 ¶

rose up early°°
in the morning,°

by their tribes;°
and the tribe°

יְהוּדָה°

So Yehoshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Yisrael by their tribes; and the tribe of Yehudah was taken: |

יְהוּדָה;°
and he took°°°
the family°
of the
Zarçîm
זַרחִים:°
and he brought°°°
the family°
of the
Zarçîm
זַרחִים°
man°
by man;°
and
Zavdî
זַבדִּי°
was taken:°° |

And he brought the family of Yehudah; and he took the family of the Zarchim: and he brought the family of the Zarchim man by man; and Zavdi was taken: |

And he brought his household man by man; and Akhan, the son of Karmi, the son of Zavdi, the son of Zerach, of the tribe of Yehudah, was taken. |

thou hast done;°°
hide°°
[it] not°

And Yehoshua said unto Akhan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide [it] not from me. |
|

And Akhan answered Yehoshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, and thus and thus have I done: |

When I saw°°
among the spoils°
a°
goodly°
Šin`är
שִׁנעָר°
garment,°
and two hundred°
shekels°
of silver,°
and a°
wedge°
of gold°
of fifty°
shekels°
weight,°
then I coveted°°
them, and took°°
them; and, behold,°
they [are] hid°°
in the earth°
in the midst°
of my tent,°
and the silver°
under°
it. |

7:21
When I saw among the spoils a goodly Shinar garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they [are] hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it. |
|
7:22 ¶

messengers,°
and they ran°°
unto the tent;°
and, behold,°
[it was] hid°°
in his tent,°
and the silver°
under°
it. |

So Yehoshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, [it was] hid in his tent, and the silver under it. |

And they took°°
them out of the midst°°
of the tent,°
and brought°°
them unto°

the children°

יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and laid them out°°
before°

יָהוֶה.° |

And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Yehoshua, and unto all the children of Yisrael, and laid them out before Yahweh. |

יִשׂרָאֵל°
with°
him, took°°°
`Äȼän
עָכָן°
the son°

Zeraç

and the silver,°
and the garment,°
and the wedge°
of gold,°
and his sons,°
and his daughters,°
and his oxen,°
and his asses,°
and his sheep,°
and his tent,°
and all°
that°
he had: and they brought°°
them unto the valley°
of
`Äȼôr
עָכוֹר.° |

And Yehoshua, and all Yisrael with him, took Akhan the son of Zerach, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Akhor. |

7:25
And

יְהוֹשֻׁעַ°
said,°°
Why°
hast thou troubled°°
us?
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
shall trouble°°
thee this°
day.°
And all°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
stoned°°°
him with stones,°
and burned°°
them with fire,°
after they had stoned°°°
them with stones.° |

And Yehoshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? Yahweh shall trouble thee this day. And all Yisrael stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones. |
|
7:26
And they raised°°
over°
him a great°
heap°
of stones°
unto°
this°
day.°
So

יָהוֶה°
turned°°
from the fierceness°°
of his anger.°
Wherefore°°
the name°
of that°
place°
was called,°°
The valley°
of
`Äȼôr
עָכוֹר,°
unto°
this°
day.° |

And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Akhor, unto this day. |
