4:1 ¶
And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and brought forth Cain and said, I have gained a man through God. |
|
4:1 ¶
And Adam°°
knew°°°
Eve°
his wife;°
and she conceived,°°
and bare°°°
Cain,°
and said,°°
I have gotten°°
a man°
from°
Yahweh.° |
4:2
And she again bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. |
|
4:2
And she again°°
bare°°°
his brother°°
Abel.°
And Abel°
was°
a keeper°°
of sheep,°
but Cain°
was°
a tiller°°
of the ground.° |
4:3
And it was so after some time that Cain brought of the fruits of the earth a sacrifice to the Lord. |
|
4:3
And in process°°
of time°
it came to pass,°
that Cain°
brought°°
of the fruit°°
of the ground°
an offering°
unto Yahweh.° |
4:4
And Abel also brought of the first born of his sheep and of his fatlings, and God looked upon Abel and his gifts, |
|
4:4
And Abel,°
he°
also°
brought°°
of the firstlings°°
of his flock°
and of the fat°°
thereof. And Yahweh°
had respect°°
unto°
Abel°
and to°
his offering:° |
4:5
but Cain and his sacrifices he regarded not, and Cain was exceedingly sorrowful and his countenance fell. |
|
4:5
But unto°
Cain°
and to°
his offering°
he had not respect.°°°
And Cain°
was very°
wroth,°°
and his countenance°
fell.°° |
4:6
And the Lord God said to Cain, Why art thou become very sorrowful and why is thy countenance fallen? |
|
4:6
And Yahweh°
said°°
unto°
Cain,°
Why°
art thou wroth?°°
and why°
is thy countenance°
fallen?°° |
4:7
Hast thou not sinned if thou hast brought it rightly, but not rightly divided it? be still, to thee shall be his submission, and thou shalt rule over him. |
|
4:7
If°
thou doest well,°°
shalt thou not°
be accepted?°
and if°
thou doest not°
well,°°
sin°
lieth°°
at the door.°
And unto°
thee [shall be] his desire,°
and thou°
shalt rule°°
over him. |
4:8
And Cain said to Abel his brother, Let us go out into the plain; and it came to pass that when they were in the plain Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. |
|
4:8
And Cain°
talked°°
with°
Abel°
his brother:°
and it came to pass,°
when they were°
in the field,°
that Cain°
rose up°°
against°
Abel°
his brother,°
and slew°
him.°° |
4:9 ¶
And the Lord God said to Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? and he said, I know not, am I my brother's keeper? |
|
4:9 ¶
And Yahweh°
said°°
unto°
Cain,°
Where°
[is] Abel°
thy brother?°
And he said,°°
I know°°
not:°
[Am] I°
my brother's°
keeper?°° |
4:10
And the Lord said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood cries to me out of the ground. |
|
4:10
And he said,°°
What°
hast thou done?°°
the voice°
of thy brother's°
blood°
crieth°°
unto°
me from°
the ground.° |
4:11
And now thou [art] cursed from the earth which has opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand. |
|
4:11
And now°
[art] thou°
cursed°°
from°
the earth,°
which°
hath opened°°°
her mouth°
to receive°°
thy brother's°°
blood°
from thy hand;°° |
4:12
When thou tillest the earth, then it shall not continue to give its strength to thee: thou shalt be groaning and trembling on the earth. |
|
4:12
When°
thou tillest°°°
the ground,°
it shall not°
henceforth°°
yield°°
unto thee her strength;°
a fugitive°°
and a vagabond°°
shalt thou be°
in the earth.° |
4:13
And Cain said to the Lord God, My crime [is] too great for me to be forgiven. |
|
4:13
And Cain°
said°°
unto°
Yahweh,°
My punishment°
[is] greater°
than I can bear.°°° |
4:14
If thou castest me out this day from the face of the earth, and I shall be hidden from thy presence, and I shall be groaning and trembling upon the earth, then it will be that any one that finds me shall slay me. |
|
4:14
Behold,°
thou hast driven me out°°°
this day°
from°°
the face°
of the earth;°
and from°
thy face°°
shall I be hid;°°
and I shall be°
a fugitive°°
and a vagabond°°
in the earth;°
and it shall come to pass,°°
[that] every one°
that findeth°
me°°
shall slay°
me.°° |
4:15
And the Lord God said to him, Not so, any one that slays Cain shall suffer seven-fold vengeance; and the Lord God set a mark upon Cain that no one that found him might slay him. |
|
4:15
And Yahweh°
said°°
unto him, Therefore°
whosoever°
slayeth°°
Cain,°
vengeance shall be taken°°
on him sevenfold.°
And Yahweh°
set°°
a mark°
upon Cain,°
lest°
any°
finding°°
him should kill°°
him. |
4:16 ¶
So Cain went forth from the presence of God and dwelt in the land of Nod over against Eden{gr.Edem}. |
|
4:16 ¶
And Cain°
went out°°
from the presence°°
of Yahweh,°
and dwelt°°
in the land°
of Nod,°
on the east°
of Eden.° |
4:17
And Cain knew his wife, and having conceived she bore Enoch; and he built a city; and he named the city after the name of his son, Enoch. |
|
4:17
And Cain°
knew°°°
his wife;°
and she conceived,°°
and bare°°°
Enoch:°
and he builded°°°
a city,°
and called°°
the name°
of the city,°
after the name°
of his son,°
Enoch.° |
4:18
And to Enoch was born Gaidad; and Gaidad begot Mahalaleel{gr.Maleleel}; and Mahalaleel{gr.Maleleel} begot Methuselah{gr.Mathusala}; and Methuselah{gr.Mathusala} begot Lamech. |
|
4:18
And unto Enoch°
was born°°°
Irad:°
and Irad°
begat°°°
Mehujael:°
and Mehujael°
begat°°°
Methusael:°
and Methusael°
begat°°°
Lamech.° |
4:19 ¶
And Lamech took to himself two wives; the name of the one was Adah{gr.Ada}, and the name of the second Sella. |
|
4:19 ¶
And Lamech°
took°°
unto him two°
wives:°
the name°
of the one°
[was] Adah,°
and the name°
of the other°
Zillah.° |
4:20
And Adah{gr.Ada} bore Jobel; he was the father of those that dwell in tents, feeding cattle. |
|
4:20
And Adah°
bare°°°
Jabal:°
he°
was°
the father°
of such as dwell°°
in tents,°
and [of such as have] cattle.° |
4:21
And the name of his brother was Jubal; he it was who invented the psaltery and harp. |
|
4:21
And his brother's°
name°
[was] Jubal:°
he°
was°
the father°
of all°
such as handle°°
the harp°
and organ.° |
4:22
And Sella also bore Tubal{gr.Thobel}; he was a smith, a manufacturer both of brass and iron; and the sister of Tubal{gr.Thobel} was Noema. |
|
4:22
And Zillah,°
she°
also°
bare°°°
Tubalcain,°
an instructer°°
of every°
artificer°
in brass°
and iron:°
and the sister°
of Tubalcain°
[was] Naamah.° |
4:23
And Lamech said to his wives, Adah{gr.Ada} and Sella, Hear my voice, ye wives of Lamech, consider my words, because I have slain a man to my sorrow and a youth to my grief. |
|
4:23
And Lamech°
said°°
unto his wives,°
Adah°
and Zillah,°
Hear°°
my voice;°
ye wives°
of Lamech,°
hearken°°
unto my speech:°
for°
I have slain°°
a man°
to my wounding,°
and a young man°
to my hurt.° |
4:24
Because vengeance has been exacted seven times on Cain's behalf, on Lamech's [it shall be] seventy times seven. |
|
4:24
If°
Cain°
shall be avenged°°
sevenfold,°
truly Lamech°
seventy°
and sevenfold.° |
4:25 ¶
And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore a son, and called his name Seth, saying, For God has raised up to me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. |
|
4:25 ¶
And Adam°°
knew°°°
his wife°
again;°
and she bare°°
a son,°
and called°°
his°
name°
Seth:°
For°
Elohim,°
[said she], hath appointed°°
me another°
seed°
instead°
of°
Abel,°
whom°
Cain°
slew.°° |
4:26
And Seth had a son, and he called his name Enos: he hoped to call on the name of the Lord God. |
|
4:26
And to Seth,°
to him°
also°
there was born°°
a son;°
and he called°°°
his name°
Enos:°
then°
began°
men°°
to call°°
upon the name°
of Yahweh.° |
