 33:1 ¶
And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and beheld, and lo! Esau his brother coming, and four hundred men with him; and Jacob divided the children to Leah{gr.Lea} and to Rachel, and the two handmaidens. |
|
 33:1 ¶
And Jacobº
lifted upºº
his eyes,º
and looked,ºº
and, behold,º
Esauº
came,ºº
and withº
him fourº
hundredº
men.º
And he dividedººº
the childrenº
untoº
Leah,º
and untoº
Rachel,º
and untoº
the twoº
handmaids.º |
 33:2
And he put the two handmaidens and their children with the first, and Leah{gr.Lea} and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last. |
|
 33:2
And he putººº
the handmaidsº
and their childrenº
foremost,º
and Leahº
and her childrenº
after,º
and Rachelº
and Josephº
hindermost.º |
 33:3
But he advanced himself before them, and did reverence to the ground seven times, until he drew near to his brother. |
|
 33:3
And heº
passed overºº
beforeº
them,º
and bowed himselfºº
to the groundº
sevenº
times,º
untilº
he came nearºº
toº
his brother.º |
 33:4
And Esau ran on to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him; and they both wept. |
|
 33:4
And Esauº
ranºº
to meetº
him,ºº
and embracedºº
him, and fellºº
onº
his neck,º
and kissedº
him:ºº
and they wept.ºº |
 33:5
And Esau looked up and saw the women and the children, and said, What are these to thee? And he said, The children with which God has mercifully blessed thy servant. |
|
 33:5
And he lifted upººº
his eyes,º
and sawººº
the womenº
and the children;º
and said,ºº
Whoº
[are] thoseº
with thee? And he said,ºº
The childrenº
whichº
Elohimº
hath graciously givenººº
thy servant.º |
 33:6
And the maid-servants and their children drew near and did reverence. |
|
 33:6
Then the handmaidensº
came near,ºº
theyº
and their children,º
and they bowed themselves.ºº |
 33:7
And Leah{gr.Lea} and her children drew near and did reverence; and after this drew near Rachel and Joseph, and did reverence. |
|
 33:7
And Leahº
alsoº
with her childrenº
came near,ºº
and bowed themselves:ºº
and afterº
cameºº
Josephº
nearººº
and Rachel,º
and they bowedºº
themselves.º |
 33:8
And he said, What are these things to thee, all these companies that I have met? And he said, That thy servant might find grace in thy sight, my lord. |
|
 33:8
And he said,ºº
Whatº
[meanest] thou by allº
thisº
droveº
whichº
I met?ºº
And he said,ºº
[These are] to findºº
graceº
in the sightº
of my adon.º |
 33:9
And Esau said, I have much, my brother; keep thine own. |
|
 33:9
And Esauº
said,ºº
I haveº
enough,º
my brother;º
keepº
thatº
thou hast unto thyself. |
 33:10
And Jacob said, If I have found grace in thy sight, receive the gifts through my hands; therefore have I seen thy face, as if any one should see the face of God, and thou shalt be well-pleased with me. |
|
 33:10
And Jacobº
said,ºº
Nay,º
I pray thee,º
ifº
nowº
I have foundºº
graceº
in thy sight,º
then receiveºº
my presentº
at my hand:ºº
forº
thereforeºº
I have seenºº
thy face,º
as though I had seenºº
the faceº
of Elohim,º
and thou wast pleasedº
with me.ºº |
 33:11
Receive my blessings, which I have brought thee, because God has had mercy on me, and I have all things; and he constrained him, and he took [them]. |
|
 33:11
Take,ºº
I pray thee,ºº
my blessingº
thatº
is broughtºº
to thee; becauseº
Elohimº
hath dealt graciouslyº
with me,ºº
and becauseººº
I haveº
enough.º
And he urgedºº
him, and he tookºº
[it]. |
 33:12
And he said, Let us depart, and proceed right onward. |
|
 33:12
And he said,ºº
Let us take our journey,ºº
and let us go,ººº
and I will goººº
beforeº
thee. |
 33:13
And he said to him, My lord knows, that the children are very tender, and the flocks and the herds with me are with young; if then I shall drive them hard one day, all the cattle will die. |
|
 33:13
And he saidºº
untoº
him, My adonº
knowethºº
thatº
the childrenº
[are] tender,º
and the flocksº
and herdsº
with youngºº
[are] withº
me: and if men should overdriveºº
them oneº
day,º
allº
the flockº
will die.ºº |
 33:14
Let my lord go on before his servant, and I shall have strength on the road according to the ease of the journey before me, and according to the strength of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir. |
|
 33:14
Let my adon,º
I pray thee,º
pass overºº
beforeº
his servant:º
and Iº
will lead onºº
softly,º
according asº
the cattleº
thatº
goeth beforeº
meº
and the childrenº
be able to endure,º
untilºº
I comeºº
untoº
my adonº
unto Seir.º |
 33:15
And Esau said, I will leave with thee some of the people who are with me. And he said, Why so? it is enough that I have found favour before thee, [my] lord. |
|
 33:15
And Esauº
said,ºº
Let me nowº
leaveºº
withº
thee [some] ofº
the folkº
thatº
[are] withº
me. And he said,ºº
Whatº
needeth it?º
let me findºº
graceº
in the sightº
of my adon.º |
 33:16 ¶
And Esau returned on that day on his journey to Seir. |
|
 33:16 ¶
So Esauº
returnedºº
thatº
dayº
on his wayº
unto Seir.º |
 33:17
And Jacob departs to his tents; and he made for himself there habitations, and for his cattle he made booths; therefore he called the name of that place, Booths. |
|
 33:17
And Jacobº
journeyedºº
to Succoth,º
and builtºº
him an house,º
and madeºº
boothsº
for his cattle:º
thereforeºº
the nameº
of the placeº
is calledºº
Succoth.º |
 33:18 ¶
And Jacob came to Salem, a city of Secima, which is in the land of Canaan{gr.Chanaan}, when he departed out of Padanaram{gr.Mesopotamia} of Syria, and took up a position in front of the city. |
|
 33:18 ¶
And Jacobº
cameºº
to Shalem,ºº
a cityº
of Shechem,º
whichº
[is] in the landº
of Canaan,º
when he cameºº
from Padanaram;ºº
and pitched his tentººº
beforeº
the city.º |
 33:19
And he bought the portion of the field, where he pitched his tent, of Hamor{gr.Emmor} the father of Shechem{gr.Sychem}, for a hundred lambs. |
|
 33:19
And he boughtººº
a parcelº
of a field,º
whereºº
he had spreadºº
his tent,º
at the handºº
of the childrenº
of Hamor,º
Shechem'sºº
father,º
for an hundredº
pieces of money.º |
 33:20
And he set up there an alter, and called on the God of Israel. |
|
 33:20
And he erectedºº
thereº
an altar,º
and calledº
itºº
Elelohe-Israel.º |
