 26:1 ¶
And there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine, which was in the time of Abraham{gr.Abraam}; and Isaac went to Abimelech the king of the Philistines{gr.Phylistines} to Gerar{gr.Gerara}. |
|
 26:1 ¶
And there wasº
a famineº
in the land,º
besideºº
the firstº
famineº
thatº
wasº
in the daysº
of Abraham.º
And Isaacº
wentººº
untoº
Abimelechº
kingº
of the Philistinesº
unto Gerar.º |
 26:2
And the Lord appeared to him and said, Go not down to Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, but dwell in the land, which I shall tell thee of. |
 26:2
And Yahwehº
appearedºº
untoº
him, and said,ºº
Go not downººº
into Egypt;º
dwellºº
in the landº
whichº
I shall tellºº
thee of:º |
 26:3
And sojourn in this land; and I will be with thee, and bless thee, for I will give to thee and to thy seed all this land; and I will establish my oath which I swore to thy father Abraham{gr.Abraam}. |
 26:3
Sojournºº
in thisº
land,º
and I will beº
withº
thee, and will blessºº
thee; forº
unto thee, and unto thy seed,º
I will giveººº
allº
theseº
countries,º
and I will performººº
the oathº
whichº
I swareºº
unto Abrahamº
thy father;º |
 26:4
And I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven; and I will give to thy seed all this land, and all the nations of the earth shall be blest in thy seed. |
 26:4
And I will makeººº
thy seedº
to multiplyºº
as the starsº
of heaven,º
and will giveºº
unto thy seedºº
allº
theseº
countries;º
and in thy seedº
shall allº
the nationsº
of the earthº
be blessed;ºº |
 26:5
Because Abraham{gr.Abraam} thy father hearkened to my voice, and kept my injunctions, and my commandments, and my ordinances, and my statutes. |
 26:5
Becauseº
thatº
Abrahamº
obeyedºº
my voice,º
and keptºº
my charge,º
my commandments,º
my statutes,º
and my laws.º |
 26:6 ¶
And Isaac dwelt in Gerar{gr.Gerara}. |
 26:6 ¶
And Isaacº
dweltºº
in Gerar:º |
 26:7
And the men of the place questioned him concerning Rebekah{gr.Rebecca} his wife, and he said, She is my sister, for he feared to say, She is my wife, lest at any time the men of the place should slay him because of Rebekah{gr.Rebecca}, because she was fair. |
 26:7
And the menºº
of the placeº
askedºº
[him] of his wife;º
and he said,ºº
Sheº
[is] my sister:º
forº
he fearedºº
to say,ºº
[She is] my wife;º
lest,º
[said he], the menºº
of the placeº
should killºº
me forº
Rebekah;º
becauseº
sheº
[was] fairº
to look upon.º |
 26:8
And he remained there a long time, and Abimelech the king of Gerar{gr.Gerara} leaned to look through the window, and saw Isaac sporting with Rebekah{gr.Rebecca} his wife. |
 26:8
And it came to pass,º
whenº
he had been thereº
a longºº
time,º
that Abimelechº
kingº
of the Philistinesº
looked outºº
atº
a window,º
and saw,ºº
and, behold,º
Isaacº
[was] sportingºº
withº
Rebekahº
his wife.º |
 26:9
And Abimelech called Isaac, and said to him, Is she then thy wife? why hast thou said, She is my sister? And Isaac said to him, [I did so], for I said, Lest at any time I die on her account. |
 26:9
And Abimelechº
calledºº
Isaac,º
and said,ºº
Behold,º
of a suretyº
sheº
[is] thy wife:º
and howº
saidstºº
thou, Sheº
[is] my sister?º
And Isaacº
saidºº
untoº
him, Becauseº
I said,ºº
Lestº
I dieºº
forº
her. |
 26:10
And Abimelech said to him, Why hast thou done this to us? one of my kindred within a little had lain with thy wife, and thou wouldest have brought [a sin of] ignorance upon us. |
 26:10
And Abimelechº
said,ºº
Whatº
[is] thisº
thou hast doneºº
unto us? oneº
of the peopleº
might lightlyº
have lienºº
withº
thy wife,º
and thou shouldest have broughtºº
guiltinessº
uponº
us. |
 26:11
And Abimelech charged all his people, saying Every man that touches this man and his wife shall be liable to death. |
 26:11
And Abimelechº
chargedººº
allº
[his] people,º
saying,ºº
He that touchethºº
thisº
manº
or his wifeº
shall surelyºº
be put to death.ºº |
 26:12
And Isaac sowed in that land, and he found in that year barley and hundred-fold, and the Lord blessed him. |
 26:12
Then Isaacº
sowedºº
in thatº
land,º
and receivedºº
in the sameº
yearº
an hundredfold:ºº
and Yahwehº
blessedºº
him. |
 26:13
And the man was exalted, and advancing he increased, till he became very great. |
 26:13
And the manº
waxed great,ºº
and wentººº
forward,ºº
and grewº
untilºº
he becameºº
veryº
great:ººº |
 26:14
And he had cattle of sheep, and cattle of oxen, and many tilled lands, and the Philistines{gr.Phylistines} envied him. |
 26:14
For he hadº
possessionº
of flocks,º
and possessionº
of herds,º
and great storeº
of servants:º
and the Philistinesº
enviedºº
him. |
 26:15
And all the wells which the servants of his father had dug in the time of his father, the Philistines{gr.Phylistines} stopped them, and filled them with earth. |
 26:15
For allº
the wellsº
whichº
his father'sº
servantsº
had diggedºº
in the daysº
of Abrahamº
his father,º
the Philistinesº
had stoppedºº
them, and filledºº
them with earth.º |
 26:16
And Abimelech said to Isaac, Depart from us, for thou art become much mightier than we. |
 26:16
And Abimelechº
saidºº
untoº
Isaac,º
Goººº
fromºº
us; forº
thou art muchº
mightierººº
thanº
we. |
 26:17 ¶
And Isaac departed thence, and rested in the valley of Gerar{gr.Gerara}, and dwelt there. |
 26:17 ¶
And Isaacº
departedººº
thence,ºº
and pitched his tentºº
in the valleyº
of Gerar,º
and dweltºº
there.º |
 26:18
And Isaac dug again the wells of water, which the servants of his father Abraham{gr.Abraam} had dug, and the Philistines{gr.Phylistines} had stopped them, after the death of his father Abraham{gr.Abraam}; and he gave them names, according to the names by which his father named them. |
 26:18
And Isaacº
diggedºº
againººº
the wellsº
of water,º
whichº
they had diggedºº
in the daysº
of Abrahamº
his father;º
for the Philistinesº
had stoppedºº
them afterº
the deathº
of Abraham:º
and he calledºº
their namesº
after the namesº
by whichº
his fatherº
had calledºº
them. |
 26:19
And the servants of Isaac dug in the valley of Gerar{gr.Gerara}, and they found there a well of living water. |
 26:19
And Isaac'sº
servantsº
diggedºº
in the valley,º
and foundºº
thereº
a wellº
of springingº
water.º |
 26:20
And the shepherds of Gerar{gr.Gerara} strove with the shepherds of Isaac, saying that the water was theirs; and they called the name of the well, Injury, for they injured him. |
 26:20
And the herdmenºº
of Gerarº
did striveºº
withº
Isaac'sº
herdmen,ºº
saying,ºº
The waterº
[is] ours: and he calledºº
the nameº
of the wellº
Esek;º
becauseº
they stroveºº
withº
him. |
 26:21
And having departed thence he dug another well, and they strove also for that; and he named the name of it, Enmity. |
 26:21
And they diggedºº
anotherº
well,º
and stroveºº
forº
that also:º
and he calledºº
the nameº
of itº
Sitnah.º |
 26:22
And he departed thence and dug another well; and they did not strive about that; and he named the name of it, Room, saying, Because now the Lord has made room for us, and has increased us upon the earth. |
 26:22
And he removedºº
from thence,ºº
and diggedºº
anotherº
well;º
and forº
that they stroveºº
not:º
and he calledºº
the nameº
of itº
Rehoboth;º
and he said,ºº
Forº
nowº
Yahwehº
hath made roomºº
for us, and we shall be fruitfulºº
in the land.º |
 26:23
And he went up thence to the well of the oath. |
 26:23
And he went upºº
from thenceºº
to Beersheba.º |
 26:24
And the Lord appeared to him in that night, and said, I am the God of Abraham{gr.Abraam} thy father; fear not, for I am with thee, and I will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for the sake of Abraham{gr.Abraam} thy father. |
 26:24
And Yahwehº
appearedºº
untoº
him the sameº
night,º
and said,ºº
Iº
[am] the Elohimº
of Abrahamº
thy father:º
fearºº
not,º
forº
Iº
[am] withº
thee, and will blessºº
thee, and multiplyººº
thy seedº
forº
my servantº
Abraham'sº
sake. |
 26:25
And he built there an altar, and called on the name of the Lord, and there he pitched his tent, and there the servants of Isaac dug a well in the valley of Gerar{gr.Gerara}. |
 26:25
And he buildedºº
an altarº
there,º
and calledºº
upon the nameº
of Yahweh,º
and pitchedºº
his tentº
there:º
and thereº
Isaac'sº
servantsº
diggedºº
a well.º |
 26:26 ¶
And Abimelech came to him from Gerar{gr.Gerara}, and so did Ochozath his friend, and Phichol the commander-in-chief of his army. |
 26:26 ¶
Then Abimelechº
wentºº
toº
him from Gerar,ºº
and Ahuzzathº
one of his friends,º
and Phicholº
the chief captainº
of his army.º |
 26:27
And Isaac said to them, Wherefore have ye come to me? whereas ye hated me, and sent me away from you. |
 26:27
And Isaacº
saidºº
untoº
them, Whereforeº
comeºº
ye toº
me, seeing yeº
hateºº
me, and have sent me awayºº
fromº
you? |
 26:28
And they said, We have surely seen that the Lord was with thee, and we said, Let there be an oath between us and thee, and we will make a covenant with thee, |
 26:28
And they said,ºº
We sawºº
certainlyºº
thatº
Yahwehº
wasº
withº
thee: and we said,ºº
Let there beº
nowº
an oathº
betwixtº
us, [even] betwixtº
us and thee, and let us makeºº
a covenantº
withº
thee; |
 26:29
that thou shalt do no wrong by us, as we have not abhorred thee, and according as we have treated thee well, and have sent thee forth peaceably; and now thou art blessed of the Lord. |
 26:29
Thatº
thou wilt doºº
us no hurt,º
asº
we have notº
touchedºº
thee, and asº
we have doneºº
untoº
thee nothing butº
good,º
and have sent thee awayºº
in peace:º
thouº
[art] nowº
the blessedºº
of Yahweh.º |
 26:30
And he made a feast for them, and they ate and drank. |
 26:30
And he madeºº
them a feast,º
and they did eatºº
and drink.ºº |
 26:31
And they arose in the morning, and swore each to his neighbour; and Isaac sent them forth, and they departed from him in safety. |
 26:31
And they rose up betimesºº
in the morning,º
and swareºº
oneº
to another:º
and Isaacº
sent them away,ºº
and they departedººº
fromºº
him in peace.º |
 26:32
And it came to pass in that day, that the servants of Isaac came and told him of the well which they had dug; and they said, We have not found water. |
 26:32
And it came to passº
the sameº
day,º
that Isaac'sº
servantsº
came,ºº
and toldºº
him concerningºº
the wellº
whichº
they had digged,ºº
and saidºº
unto him, We have foundºº
water.º |
 26:33
And he called it, Oath: therefore he called the name of that city, the Well of Oath, until this day. |
 26:33
And he calledºº
it Shebah:º
thereforeºº
the nameº
of the cityº
[is] Beershebaº
untoº
thisº
day.º |
 26:34 ¶
And Esau was forty years old; and he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beoch the Hittite{gr.Chettite}, and Bashemath{gr.Basemath}, daughter of Helon the Hittite{gr.Chettite}. |
 26:34 ¶
And Esauº
wasº
fortyº
yearsº
oldº
when he tookºº
to wifeºº
Judithº
the daughterº
of Beeriº
the Hittite,º
and Bashemathº
the daughterº
of Elonº
the Hittite:º |
 26:35
And they were provoking to Isaac and Rebekah{gr.Rebecca}. |
 26:35
Which wereº
a griefº
of mindº
unto Isaacº
and to Rebekah.º |
