And Abram went up out of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the wilderness. |

And he went [to the place] whence he came, into the wilderness as far as Bethel{gr.Baethel}, as far as the place where his tent was before, between Bethel{gr.Baethel} and Aggai, |

the placeº
whereºº
his tentº
had beenºº
at the beginning,º

to the place of the altar, which he built there at first, and Abram there called on the name of the Lord. |

And Lot who went out with Abram had sheep, and oxen, and tents. |

And the land was not large enough for them to live together, because their possessions were great; and the land was not large enough for them to live together. |

their substanceº
wasº
great,º
so that they couldºº

dwellºº

And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle, and the herdmen of Lot's cattle, and the Canaanites{gr.Chananites} and the Perizzites{gr.Pherezites} then inhabited the land. |

And there wasº
a strifeº
betweenº
the herdmenºº
of Abram'sº
cattleº
and the herdmenºº
of Lot'sº
cattle:º
and the Canaaniteº
and the Perizziteº
dwelledºº
thenº
in the land.º |

And Abram said to Lot, Let there not be a strife between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen, for we are brethren. |

Let there beºº
noº
strife,º
I pray thee,º
betweenº
me and thee, and betweenº
my herdmenºº
and thy herdmen;ºº
forº
weºº
[be] brethren.º |

Lo! is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself from me; if thou [goest] to the left, I will go to the right, and if thou goest to the right, I will go to the left. |

I pray thee,º
fromºº
me: ifº
[thou wilt take] the left hand,º
then I will go to the right;ºº
or ifº
[thou depart] to the right hand,º

And Lot having lifted up his eyes, observed all the country round about Jordan, that it was all watered, before God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah{gr.Gomorrha}, as the garden of the Lord, and as the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, until thou come to Zogora. |

it [was] well wateredº

Yahwehº
destroyedººº
Sodomº
and Gomorrah,º

as thou comestºº
unto Zoar.º |

And Lot chose for himself all the country round Jordan, and Lot went from the east, and they were separated each from his brother. And Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan{gr.Chanaan}. |

And Lot dwelt in a city of the neighbouring people, and pitched his tent in Sodom. |

in the citiesº
of the plain,º
and pitched [his] tentºº
towardº
Sodom.º |

But the men of Sodom were evil, and exceedingly sinful before God. |

of Sodomº
[were] wickedº
and sinnersº
before Yahwehº
exceedingly.º |

13:14 ¶
And God said to Abram after Lot was separated from him, Look up with thine eyes, and behold from the place where thou now art northward and southward, and eastward and seaward; |

And Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
Abram,º
afterº
thatº
Lotº
was separatedºº
fromºº
him, Lift upºº
nowº
thine eyes,º
and lookºº
fromº
the placeº
whereºº
thouº
art northward,º
and southward,º
and eastward,º
and westward:º |

for all the land which thou seest, I will give it to thee and to thy seed for ever. |

And I will make thy seed like the dust of the earth; if any one is able to number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed be numbered. |

as the dustº
of the earth:º
so thatº
ifº
a manº
canºº
numberººº
the dustº
of the earth,º
[then] shall thy seedº
alsoº
be numbered.ºº |

Arise and traverse the land, both in the length of it and in the breadth; for to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. |

in the lengthº
of it and in the breadthº
of it; forº
I will giveºº
it unto thee. |

And Abram having removed his tent, came and dwelt by the oak of Mamre{gr.Mambre}, which was in Hebron{gr.Chebrom}, and he there built an altar to the Lord. |

and cameºº
and dweltºº
in the plainº
of Mamre,º
whichº
[is] in Hebron,º
and builtºº
thereº
an altarº
unto Yahweh.º |
