 51:1 ¶
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek Jehovah: look unto the rock whence ye were hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye were digged. |
|
 51:1 ¶
Hearkenºº
toº
me, ye that follow afterºº
righteousness,º
ye that seekºº
the LORD:º
lookºº
untoº
the rockº
[whence] ye are hewn,ºº
and toº
the holeº
of the pitº
[whence] ye are digged.ºº |
 51:2
Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you; for when he was but one I called him, and I blessed him, and made him many. |
|
 51:2
Lookºº
untoº
Abrahamº
your father,º
and untoº
Sarahº
[that] bareºº
you: forº
I calledºº
him alone,º
and blessedºº
him, and increasedºº
him. |
 51:3
For Jehovah hath comforted Zion; he hath comforted all her waste places, and hath made her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Jehovah; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody. |
|
 51:3
Forº
the LORDº
shall comfortºº
Zion:º
he will comfortºº
allº
her waste places;º
and he will makeºº
her wildernessº
like Eden,º
and her desertº
like the gardenº
of the LORD;º
joyº
and gladnessº
shall be foundºº
therein, thanksgiving,º
and the voiceº
of melody.º |
 51:4 ¶
Attend unto me, O my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall go forth from me, and I will establish my justice for a light of the peoples. |
|
 51:4 ¶
Hearkenºº
untoº
me, my people;º
and give earºº
untoº
me, O my nation:º
forº
a lawº
shall proceedºº
fromºº
me, and I will make my judgmentº
to restºº
for a lightº
of the people.º |
 51:5
My righteousness is near, my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the peoples; the isles shall wait for me, and on mine arm shall they trust. |
|
 51:5
My righteousnessº
[is] near;º
my salvationº
is gone forth,ºº
and mine armsº
shall judgeºº
the people;º
the islesº
shall waitºº
uponº
me, and onº
mine armº
shall they trust.ºº |
 51:6
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment; and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished. |
|
 51:6
Lift upºº
your eyesº
to the heavens,º
and lookºº
uponº
the earthº
beneath:ºº
forº
the heavensº
shall vanish awayºº
like smoke,º
and the earthº
shall wax oldºº
like a garment,º
and they that dwellºº
therein shall dieºº
in likeº
manner:ººº
but my salvationº
shall beº
for ever,º
and my righteousnessº
shall notº
be abolished.ºº |
 51:7 ¶
Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye dismayed at their revilings. |
|
 51:7 ¶
Hearkenºº
untoº
me, ye that knowºº
righteousness,º
the peopleº
in whose heartº
[is] my law;º
fearºº
ye notº
the reproachº
of men,º
neitherº
be ye afraidºº
of their revilings.ºº |
 51:8
For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool; but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation unto all generations. |
|
 51:8
Forº
the mothº
shall eat them upºº
like a garment,º
and the wormº
shall eatºº
them like wool:º
but my righteousnessº
shall beº
for ever,º
and my salvationº
from generationº
to generation.º |
 51:9 ¶
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Is it not thou that didst cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the monster? |
|
 51:9 ¶
Awake,ºº
awake,ºº
put onºº
strength,º
O armº
of the LORD;º
awake,ºº
as in the ancientº
days,º
in the generationsº
of old.º
[Art] thouº
notº
itº
that hath cutºº
Rahab,ºº
[and] woundedºº
the dragon?º |
 51:10
Is it not thou that driedst up the sea, the waters of the great deep; that madest the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over? |
|
 51:10
[Art] thouº
notº
itº
which hath driedºº
the sea,º
the watersº
of the greatº
deep;º
that hath madeºº
the depthsº
of the seaº
a wayº
for the ransomedºº
to pass over?ºº |
 51:11
And the ransomed of Jehovah shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy; [and] sorrow and sighing shall flee away. |
|
 51:11
Therefore the redeemedºº
of the LORDº
shall return,ºº
and comeºº
with singingº
unto Zion;º
and everlastingº
joyº
[shall be] uponº
their head:º
they shall obtainºº
gladnessº
and joy;º
[and] sorrowº
and mourningº
shall flee away.ºº |
 51:12
I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou art afraid of man that shall die, and of the son of man that shall be made as grass; |
|
 51:12
I,º
[even] I,º
[am] heº
that comfortethºº
you: whoº
[art] thou,º
that thou shouldest be afraidºº
of a manºº
[that] shall die,ºº
and of the sonºº
of manº
[which] shall be madeºº
[as] grass;º |
 51:13
and hast forgotten Jehovah thy Maker, that stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and fearest continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he maketh ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor? |
|
 51:13
And forgettestºº
the LORDº
thy maker,ºº
that hath stretched forthºº
the heavens,º
and laid the foundationsºº
of the earth;º
and hast fearedºº
continuallyº
everyº
dayº
becauseºº
of the furyº
of the oppressor,ºº
asº
ifº
he were readyºº
to destroy?ºº
and whereº
[is] the furyº
of the oppressor?ºº |
 51:14
The captive exile shall speedily be loosed; and he shall not die [and go down] into the pit, neither shall his bread fail. |
|
 51:14
The captive exileºº
hastenethºº
that he may be loosed,ºº
and that he should notº
dieºº
in the pit,º
norº
that his breadº
should fail.ºº |
 51:15
For I am Jehovah thy God, who stirreth up the sea, so that the waves thereof roar: Jehovah of hosts is his name. |
|
 51:15
But Iº
[am] the LORDº
thy God,º
that dividedºº
the sea,º
whose wavesº
roared:ºº
The LORDº
of hostsº
[is] his name.º |
 51:16
And I have put my words in thy mouth, and have covered thee in the shadow of my hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. |
|
 51:16
And I have putºº
my wordsº
in thy mouth,º
and I have coveredºº
thee in the shadowº
of mine hand,º
that I may plantºº
the heavens,º
and lay the foundationsºº
of the earth,º
and sayºº
unto Zion,º
Thouº
[art] my people.º |
 51:17 ¶
Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, that hast drunk at the hand of Jehovah the cup of his wrath; thou hast drunken the bowl of the cup of staggering, and drained it. |
|
 51:17 ¶
Awake,ºº
awake,ºº
stand up,ºº
O Jerusalem,º
whichº
hast drunkºº
at the handºº
of the LORDºº
the cupº
of his fury;º
thou hast drunkenººº
the dregsº
of the cupº
of trembling,º
[and] wrung [them] out.ºº |
 51:18
There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand among all the sons that she hath brought up. |
|
 51:18
[There is] noneº
to guideºº
her among allºº
the sonsº
[whom] she hath brought forth;ºº
neitherº
[is there any] that takethºº
her by the handº
of allºº
the sonsº
[that] she hath brought up.ºº |
 51:19
These two things are befallen thee, who shall bemoan thee? desolation and destruction, and the famine and the sword; how shall I comfort thee? |
|
 51:19
Theseº
twoº
[things] are comeºº
unto thee; whoº
shall be sorryºº
for thee? desolation,º
and destruction,º
and the famine,º
and the sword:º
by whomº
shall I comfortºº
thee? |
 51:20
Thy sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as an antelope in a net; they are full of the wrath of Jehovah, the rebuke of thy God. |
|
 51:20
Thy sonsº
have fainted,ºº
they lieºº
at the headº
of allº
the streets,º
as a wild bullº
in a net:º
they are fullº
of the furyº
of the LORD,º
the rebukeº
of thy God.º |
 51:21 ¶
Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but now with wine: |
|
 51:21 ¶
Thereforeº
hearºº
nowº
this,º
thou afflicted,º
and drunken,ºº
but notº
with wine:ºº |
 51:22
Thus saith thy Lord Jehovah, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of staggering, even the bowl of the cup of my wrath; thou shalt no more drink it again: |
|
 51:22
Thusº
saithºº
thy Lordº
the LORD,º
and thy Godº
[that] pleadethºº
the causeº
of his people,º
Behold,º
I have takenº
outºº
of thine handººº
the cupº
of trembling,º
[even]º
the dregsº
of the cupº
of my fury;º
thou shalt noº
moreºº
drinkº
it again:ººº |
 51:23
and I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee, that have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over; and thou hast laid thy back as the ground, and as the street, to them that go over. |
|
 51:23
But I will putºº
it into the handº
of them that afflictºº
thee; whichº
have saidºº
to thy soul,º
Bow down,ºº
that we may go over:ºº
and thou hast laidºº
thy bodyº
as the ground,º
and as the street,º
to them that went over.ºº |
