 49:1 ¶
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye peoples, from far: Jehovah hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name: |
|
 49:1 ¶
Listen,ºº
O isles,º
untoº
me; and hearken,ºº
ye people,º
from far;ºº
The LORDº
hath calledºº
me from the womb;ºº
from the bowelsºº
of my motherº
hath he made mentionºº
of my name.º |
 49:2
and he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me: and he hath made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he kept me close: |
|
 49:2
And he hath madeºº
my mouthº
like a sharpº
sword;º
in the shadowº
of his handº
hath he hidºº
me, and madeºº
me a polishedºº
shaft;º
in his quiverº
hath he hidºº
me; |
 49:3
and he said unto me, Thou art my servant; Israel, in whom I will be glorified. |
|
 49:3
And saidºº
unto me, Thouº
[art] my servant,º
O Israel,º
in whomº
I will be glorified.ºº |
 49:4
But I said, I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nought and vanity; yet surely the justice [due] to me is with Jehovah, and my recompense with my God. |
|
 49:4
Then Iº
said,ºº
I have labouredºº
in vain,º
I have spentºº
my strengthº
for nought,º
and in vain:º
[yet] surelyº
my judgmentº
[is] withº
the LORD,º
and my workº
withº
my God.º |
 49:5 ¶
And now saith Jehovah that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, and that Israel be gathered unto him (for I am honorable in the eyes of Jehovah, and my God is become my strength); |
|
 49:5 ¶
And now,º
saithºº
the LORDº
that formedºº
me from the wombºº
[to be] his servant,º
to bringºº
Jacobº
againººº
toº
him, Though Israelº
be not gathered,ºº
yet shall I be gloriousºº
in the eyesº
of the LORD,º
and my Godº
shall beº
my strength.º |
 49:6
yea, he saith, It is too light a thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. |
|
 49:6
And he said,ºº
It is a light thingºº
that thou shouldest beºº
my servantº
to raise upººº
the tribesº
of Jacob,º
and to restoreºº
the preservedºººº
of Israel:º
I will also giveºº
thee for a lightº
to the Gentiles,º
that thou mayest beº
my salvationº
untoº
the endº
of the earth.º |
 49:7
Thus saith Jehovah, the Redeemer of Israel, [and] his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of Jehovah that is faithful, [even] the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee. |
|
 49:7
Thusº
saithºº
the LORD,º
the Redeemerºº
of Israel,º
[and] his Holy One,º
to him whom manº
despiseth,º
to him whom the nationº
abhorreth,ºº
to a servantº
of rulers,ºº
Kingsº
shall seeºº
and arise,ºº
princesº
also shall worship,ºº
because ofº
the LORDº
thatº
is faithful,ºº
[and] the Holy Oneº
of Israel,º
and he shall chooseºº
thee. |
 49:8
Thus saith Jehovah, In an acceptable time have I answered thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee; and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritages: |
|
 49:8
Thusº
saithºº
the LORD,º
In an acceptableº
timeº
have I heardºº
thee, and in a dayº
of salvationº
have I helpedºº
thee: and I will preserveºº
thee, and giveºº
thee for a covenantº
of the people,º
to establishºº
the earth,º
to cause to inheritºº
the desolateºº
heritages;º |
 49:9
saying to them that are bound, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Show yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and on all bare heights shall be their pasture. |
|
 49:9
That thou mayest sayºº
to the prisoners,ºº
Go forth;ºº
to them thatº
[are] in darkness,º
Shewºº
yourselves.º
They shall feedºº
inº
the ways,º
and their pasturesº
[shall be] in allº
high places.º |
 49:10
They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them will lead them, even by springs of water will he guide them. |
|
 49:10
They shall notº
hungerºº
norº
thirst;ºº
neitherº
shall the heatº
nor sunº
smiteºº
them: forº
he that hath mercyºº
on them shall leadºº
them, even byº
the springsº
of waterº
shall he guideºº
them. |
 49:11
And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted. |
|
 49:11
And I will makeºº
allº
my mountainsº
a way,º
and my highwaysº
shall be exalted.ºº |
 49:12
Lo, these shall come from far; and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim. |
|
 49:12
Behold,º
theseº
shall comeºº
from far:ºº
and, lo,º
theseº
from the northºº
and from the west;ºº
and theseº
from the landºº
of Sinim.º |
 49:13 ¶
Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for Jehovah hath comforted his people, and will have compassion upon his afflicted. |
|
 49:13 ¶
Sing,ºº
O heavens;º
and be joyful,ºº
O earth;º
and break forthºº
into singing,º
O mountains:º
forº
the LORDº
hath comfortedºº
his people,º
and will have mercyºº
upon his afflicted.º |
 49:14
But Zion said, Jehovah hath forsaken me, and the Lord hath forgotten me. |
|
 49:14
But Zionº
said,ºº
The LORDº
hath forsakenºº
me, and my Lordº
hath forgottenºº
me. |
 49:15
Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, these may forget, yet will not I forget thee. |
|
 49:15
Can a womanº
forgetºº
her sucking child,º
that she should not have compassionººº
on the sonº
of her womb?º
yea,º
theyº
may forget,ºº
yet will Iº
notº
forgetºº
thee. |
 49:16
Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. |
|
 49:16
Behold,º
I have gravenºº
thee uponº
the palms of [my] hands;º
thy wallsº
[are] continuallyº
beforeº
me. |
 49:17
Thy children make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth from thee. |
|
 49:17
Thy childrenº
shall make haste;ºº
thy destroyersºº
and they that made thee wasteºº
shall go forthºº
ofº
thee. |
 49:18 ¶
Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith Jehovah, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all as with an ornament, and gird thyself with them, like a bride. |
|
 49:18 ¶
Lift upºº
thine eyesº
round about,º
and behold:ºº
allº
these gather themselves together,ºº
[and] comeºº
to thee. [As] Iº
live,º
saithºº
the LORD,º
thou shalt surelyº
clotheºº
thee with them all,º
as with an ornament,º
and bindºº
them [on thee], as a brideº
[doeth]. |
 49:19
For, as for thy waste and thy desolate places, and thy land that hath been destroyed, surely now shalt thou be too strait for the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away. |
|
 49:19
Forº
thy wasteº
and thy desolate places,ºº
and the landº
of thy destruction,º
shall evenº
nowº
be too narrowºº
by reason of the inhabitants,ººº
and they that swallowed thee upºº
shall be far away.ºº |
 49:20
The children of thy bereavement shall yet say in thine ears, The place is too strait for me; give place to me that I may dwell. |
|
 49:20
The childrenº
which thou shalt have, after thou hast lostº
the other,º
shall sayºº
againº
in thine ears,º
The placeº
[is] too straitº
for me: giveºº
placeºº
to me that I may dwell.ºº |
 49:21
Then shalt thou say in thy heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have been bereaved of my children, and am solitary, an exile, and wandering to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where were they? |
|
 49:21
Then shalt thou sayºº
in thine heart,º
Whoº
hath begottenºº
meº
these,º
seeing Iº
have lost my children,ººº
and am desolate,º
a captive,ºº
and removing to and fro?ºº
and whoº
hath brought upºº
these?º
Behold,º
Iº
was leftºº
alone;º
these,º
whereº
[had] theyº
[been]? |
 49:22
Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations, and set up my ensign to the peoples; and they shall bring thy sons in their bosom, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. |
|
 49:22
Thusº
saithºº
the Lordº
GOD,º
Behold,º
I will lift upºº
mine handº
toº
the Gentiles,º
and set upºº
my standardº
toº
the people:º
and they shall bringºº
thy sonsº
in [their] arms,º
and thy daughtersº
shall be carriedºº
uponº
[their] shoulders.º |
 49:23
And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah; and they that wait for me shall not be put to shame. |
|
 49:23
And kingsº
shall beº
thy nursing fathers,ºº
and their queensº
thy nursing mothers:ºº
they shall bow downºº
to thee with [their] faceº
toward the earth,º
and lick upºº
the dustº
of thy feet;º
and thou shalt knowºº
thatº
Iº
[am] the LORD:º
for theyº
shall notº
be ashamedºº
that waitºº
for me. |
 49:24 ¶
Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captives be delivered? |
|
 49:24 ¶
Shall the preyº
be takenºº
from the mighty,ºº
orº
the lawfulº
captiveº
delivered?ºº |
 49:25
But thus saith Jehovah, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children. |
|
 49:25
Butº
thusº
saithºº
the LORD,º
Evenº
the captivesº
of the mightyº
shall be taken away,ºº
and the preyº
of the terribleº
shall be delivered:ºº
for Iº
will contendºº
withº
him that contendethº
withº
thee, and Iº
will saveºº
thy children.º |
 49:26
And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I, Jehovah, am thy Saviour, and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. |
|
 49:26
And I will feedººº
them that oppressºº
thee withº
their own flesh;º
and they shall be drunkenºº
with their own blood,º
as with sweet wine:º
and allº
fleshº
shall knowºº
thatº
Iº
the LORDº
[am] thy Saviourºº
and thy Redeemer,ºº
the mighty Oneº
of Jacob.º |
