 42:1 ¶
Behold, my servant, whom I uphold; my chosen, in whom my soul delighteth: I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. |
|
 42:1 ¶
Beholdº
my servant,º
whom I uphold;ºº
mine elect,º
[in whom] my soulº
delighteth;ºº
I have putºº
my spiritº
uponº
him: he shall bring forthºº
judgmentº
to the Gentiles.º |
 42:2
He will not cry, nor lift up his voice, nor cause it to be heard in the street. |
|
 42:2
He shall notº
cry,ºº
norº
lift up,ºº
norº
cause his voiceº
to be heardºº
in the street.º |
 42:3
A bruised reed will he not break, and a dimly burning wick will he not quench: he will bring forth justice in truth. |
|
 42:3
A bruisedºº
reedº
shall he notº
break,ºº
and the smokingº
flaxº
shall he notº
quench:ºº
he shall bring forthºº
judgmentº
unto truth.º |
 42:4
He will not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set justice in the earth; and the isles shall wait for his law. |
|
 42:4
He shall notº
failºº
norº
be discouraged,ºº
tillº
he have setºº
judgmentº
in the earth:º
and the islesº
shall waitºº
for his law.º |
 42:5 ¶
Thus saith God Jehovah, he that created the heavens, and stretched them forth; he that spread abroad the earth and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: |
|
 42:5 ¶
Thusº
saithºº
Godº
the LORD,º
he that createdºº
the heavens,º
and stretched them out;ºº
he that spread forthºº
the earth,º
and that which cometh outº
of it; he that givethºº
breathº
unto the peopleº
uponº
it, and spiritº
to them that walkºº
therein: |
 42:6
I, Jehovah, have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thy hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; |
|
 42:6
Iº
the LORDº
have calledºº
thee in righteousness,º
and will holdºº
thine hand,º
and will keepºº
thee, and giveºº
thee for a covenantº
of the people,º
for a lightº
of the Gentiles;º |
 42:7
to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house. |
|
 42:7
To openºº
the blindº
eyes,º
to bring outºº
the prisonersº
from the prison,ºº
[and] them that sitºº
in darknessº
out of the prisonº
house.ºº |
 42:8
I am Jehovah, that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise unto graven images. |
|
 42:8
Iº
[am] the LORD:º
thatº
[is] my name:º
and my gloryº
will I notº
giveºº
to another,º
neither my praiseº
to graven images.º |
 42:9
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them. |
|
 42:9
Behold,º
the former thingsº
are come to pass,ºº
and new thingsº
do Iº
declare:ºº
beforeº
they spring forthºº
I tellºº
you of them. |
 42:10
Sing unto Jehovah a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth; ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein, the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. |
|
 42:10
Singºº
unto the LORDº
a newº
song,º
[and] his praiseº
from the endºº
of the earth,º
ye that go downºº
to the sea,º
and all that is therein;º
the isles,º
and the inhabitantsºº
thereof. |
 42:11
Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up [their voice], the villages that Kedar doth inhabit; let the inhabitants of Sela sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. |
|
 42:11
Let the wildernessº
and the citiesº
thereof lift upºº
[their voice], the villagesº
[that] Kedarº
doth inhabit:ºº
let the inhabitantsºº
of the rockº
sing,ºº
let them shoutºº
from the topºº
of the mountains.º |
 42:12
Let them give glory unto Jehovah, and declare his praise in the islands. |
|
 42:12
Let them giveºº
gloryº
unto the LORD,º
and declareºº
his praiseº
in the islands.º |
 42:13
Jehovah will go forth as a mighty man; he will stir up [his] zeal like a man of war: he will cry, yea, he will shout aloud; he will do mightily against his enemies. |
|
 42:13
The LORDº
shall go forthºº
as a mighty man,º
he shall stir upºº
jealousyº
like a manº
of war:º
he shall cry,ºº
yea,º
roar;ºº
he shall prevailºº
againstº
his enemies.ºº |
 42:14
I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: [now] will I cry out like a travailing woman; I will gasp and pant together. |
|
 42:14
I have long timeºº
holden my peace;ºº
I have been still,ºº
[and] refrainedºº
myself:º
[now] will I cryºº
like a travailing woman;ºº
I will destroyºººº
and devourºº
at once.º |
 42:15
I will lay waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and will dry up the pools. |
|
 42:15
I will make wasteºº
mountainsº
and hills,º
and dry upºº
allº
their herbs;º
and I will makeºº
the riversº
islands,º
and I will dry upºº
the pools.º |
 42:16
And I will bring the blind by a way that they know not; in paths that they know not will I lead them; I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things will I do, and I will not forsake them. |
|
 42:16
And I will bringººº
the blindº
by a wayº
[that] they knewºº
not;º
I will leadºº
themº
in pathsº
[that] they have notº
known:ºº
I will makeºº
darknessº
lightº
beforeº
them, and crooked thingsº
straight.º
Theseº
thingsº
will I doºº
unto them, and notº
forsakeºº
them. |
 42:17 ¶
They shall be turned back, they shall be utterly put to shame, that trust in graven images, that say unto molten images, Ye are our gods. |
|
 42:17 ¶
They shall be turnedºº
back,º
they shall be greatlyº
ashamed,ººº
that trustºº
in graven images,º
that sayºº
to the molten images,º
Yeº
[are] our gods.º |
 42:18
Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. |
|
 42:18
Hear,ºº
ye deaf;º
and look,ºº
ye blind,º
that ye may see.ºº |
 42:19
Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I send? who is blind as he that is at peace [with me], and blind as Jehovah's servant? |
|
 42:19
Whoº
[is] blind,º
butºº
my servant?º
or deaf,º
as my messengerº
[that] I sent?ºº
whoº
[is] blindº
as [he that is] perfect,ºº
and blindº
as the LORD'Sº
servant?º |
 42:20
Thou seest many things, but thou observest not; his ears are open, but he heareth not. |
|
 42:20
Seeingºººº
many things,º
but thou observestºº
not;º
openingºº
the ears,º
but he hearethºº
not.º |
 42:21
It pleased Jehovah, for his righteousness' sake, to magnify the law, and make it honorable. |
|
 42:21
The LORDº
is well pleasedºº
for his righteousness'º
sake;ºº
he will magnifyºº
the law,º
and make [it] honourable.ºº |
 42:22
But this is a people robbed and plundered; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison-houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore. |
|
 42:22
But thisº
[is] a peopleº
robbedºº
and spoiled;ºº
[they are] allº
of them snaredºº
in holes,ººº
and they are hidºº
in prisonº
houses:º
they areº
for a prey,º
and noneº
delivereth;ºº
for a spoil,º
and noneº
saith,ºº
Restore.ºº |
 42:23
Who is there among you that will give ear to this? that will hearken and hear for the time to come? |
|
 42:23
Whoº
among you will give earºº
to this?º
[who] will hearkenºº
and hearºº
for the time to come?º |
 42:24
Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not Jehovah? he against whom we have sinned, and in whose ways they would not walk, neither were they obedient unto his law. |
|
 42:24
Whoº
gaveºº
Jacobº
for a spoil,ººº
and Israelº
to the robbers?ºº
did notº
the LORD,º
he against whomº
we have sinned?ºº
for they wouldºº
notº
walkºº
in his ways,º
neitherº
were they obedientºº
unto his law.º |
 42:25
Therefore he poured upon him the fierceness of his anger, and the strength of battle; and it set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart. |
|
 42:25
Therefore he hath pouredºº
uponº
him the furyº
of his anger,º
and the strengthº
of battle:º
and it hath set him on fireºº
round about,ºº
yet he knewºº
not;º
and it burnedºº
him, yet he laidºº
[it] notº
toº
heart.º |
