 4:1 ¶
Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it. |
|
 4:1 ¶
Let usºº
thereforeº
fear,ºº
lest,º
a promiseº
being leftºº
[us] of enteringºº
intoº
hisº
rest,º
anyº
ofº
youº
should seemºº
to come shortº
of it.ºº |
 4:2
For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because it was not united by faith with them that heard. |
 4:2
Forºº
unto usº
wasºº
the gospel preached,ººº
as well asº
unto them:º
butº
theº
wordº
preachedº
didºº
notº
profitºº
them,º
notº
being mixedºº
withº
faithº
in them that heardºº
[it]. |
 4:3
For we who have believed do enter into that rest; even as he hath said, As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. |
 4:3
Forº
we whichº
have believedºº
do enterºº
intoº
rest,º
asº
he said,ºº
Asº
I have swornºº
inº
myº
wrath,º
ifº
they shall enterºº
intoº
myº
rest:º
althoughº
theº
worksº
were finishedºº
fromº
the foundationº
of the world.º |
 4:4
For he hath said somewhere of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works; |
 4:4
Forº
he spakeºº
in a certain placeº
ofº
theº
seventhº
[day] on this wise,º
Andº
Godº
did restºº
theº
seventhºº
dayº
fromº
allº
hisºº
works.º |
 4:5
and in this [place] again, They shall not enter into my rest. |
 4:5
Andº
inº
thisº
[place] again,º
Ifº
they shall enterºº
intoº
myº
rest.º |
 4:6
Seeing therefore it remaineth that some should enter thereinto, and they to whom the good tidings were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience, |
 4:6
Seeingº
thereforeº
it remainethºº
that someº
must enterºº
therein,ºº
andº
they to whom it was firstº
preachedººº
enteredºº
notº
inººº
becauseº
of unbelief:º |
 4:7
he again defineth a certain day, To-day, saying in David so long a time afterward (even as hath been said before), To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts. |
 4:7
Again,º
he limitethºº
a certainº
day,º
sayingºº
inº
David,º
To day,º
afterº
so longº
a time;º
asº
it is said,ºº
To dayº
ifº
ye will hearºº
hisº
voice,º
hardenºº
notº
yourº
hearts.º |
 4:8
For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. |
 4:8
Forº
ifº
Jesusº
had givenºº
themº
rest,ººº
then would heº
notºº
afterwardºº
have spokenºº
ofº
anotherº
day.º |
 4:9
There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God. |
 4:9
There remainethºº
thereforeº
a restº
to theº
peopleº
of God.º |
 4:10
For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. |
 4:10
Forº
he that is enteredºº
intoº
hisº
rest,º
heº
alsoº
hath ceasedºº
fromº
his ownºº
works,º
asº
Godº
[did] fromº
his.º |
 4:11
Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience. |
 4:11
Let us labourºº
thereforeº
to enterºº
intoº
thatº
rest,º
lestº
any manº
fallºº
afterº
theº
sameº
exampleº
of unbelief.º |
 4:12
For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. |
 4:12
Forº
theº
wordº
of Godº
[is] quick,ºº
andº
powerful,º
andº
sharperº
thanº
anyº
twoedgedº
sword,º
piercingºº
evenº
toº
the dividing asunderº
ofº
soulº
andºº
spirit,º
andºº
of the jointsº
andº
marrow,º
andº
[is] a discernerº
of the thoughtsº
andº
intentsº
of the heart.º |
 4:13
And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do. |
 4:13
Neitherºº
isº
thereºº
any creatureº
that is not manifestº
in hisº
sight:ºº
butº
all thingsº
[are] nakedº
andº
openedºº
unto theº
eyesº
of himº
withº
whomº
we haveº
to do.ºº |
 4:14
Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. |
 4:14
Seeingºº
thenº
that we haveºº
a greatº
high priest,º
that is passed intoºº
theº
heavens,º
Jesusº
theº
Sonº
of God,º
let us hold fastºº
[our] profession.º |
 4:15
For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. |
 4:15
Forº
we haveºº
notº
an high priestº
which cannotººº
be touched with the feelingºº
ofº
ourº
infirmities;º
butº
wasºº
inº
all pointsº
temptedºººº
likeº
asºº
[we are, yet] withoutº
sin.º |
 4:16
Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help [us] in time of need. |
 4:16
Let usºº
thereforeº
comeºº
boldlyºº
unto theº
throneº
of grace,º
thatº
we may obtainºº
mercy,º
andº
findºº
graceº
to helpº
inº
time of need.ººº |
