 9:1 ¶ Now even a first [covenant] had ordinances of divine service, and its sanctuary, [a sanctuary] of this world.

 9:1 ¶ Thenº verilyº theº firstº [covenant] hadºº alsoº ordinancesº of divine service,º andº a worldlyº sanctuary.º

 9:2 For there was a tabernacle prepared, the first, wherein [were] the candlestick, and the table, and the showbread; which is called the Holy place.

 9:2 Forº there wasºº a tabernacleº made;ºº theº first,º whereinººº [was] theºº candlestick,º andº theº table,º andº theº shewbread;ºº whichº is calledºº the sanctuary.º

 9:3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holy of holies;

 9:3 Andº afterº theº secondº veil,º the tabernacleº whichº is calledºº the Holiest of all;º

 9:4 having a golden altar of incense, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein [was] a golden pot holding the manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;

 9:4 Which hadºº the goldenº censer,º andº theº arkº of theº covenantº overlaidºº round aboutº with gold,ºº whereinºº [was] the goldenºº potº that hadºº manna,º andº Aaron'sº rodº that budded,ºº andº theº tablesº of theº covenant;º

 9:5 and above it cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy-seat; of which things we cannot now speak severally.

 9:5 Andº overº itº the cherubimsº of gloryº shadowingºº theº mercyseat;º ofº whichº we cannotººº nowº speakºº particularly.ºº

 9:6 Now these things having been thus prepared, the priests go in continually into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the services;

 9:6 Nowº when these thingsº wereºº thusº ordained,ºº theº priestsº wentºº alwaysº intoºº theº firstº tabernacle,º accomplishingºº theº serviceº [of God].

 9:7 but into the second the high priest alone, once in the year, not without blood, which he offereth for himself, and for the errors of the people:

 9:7 Butº intoº theº secondº [went] theº high priestº aloneº onceº every year,º notº withoutº blood,º whichº he offeredºº forº himself,º andº [for] theº errorsº of theº people:º

 9:8 the Holy Spirit this signifying, that the way into the holy place hath not yet been made manifest, while the first tabernacle is yet standing;

 9:8 Theº Holyº Ghostº thisº signifying,ºº that theº wayº into theº holiest of allº wasºº not yetº made manifest,ºº while as theº firstº tabernacleº wasºº yetº standing:º

 9:9 which [is] a figure for the time present; according to which are offered both gifts and sacrifices that cannot, as touching the conscience, make the worshipper perfect,

 9:9 Whichº [was] a figureº forº theº timeº then present,ºº inº whichº were offeredºº bothº giftsº andº sacrifices,º that couldºº notº makeºº him that did the serviceºº perfect,ºººº as pertainingº toº the conscience;º

 9:10 [being] only (with meats and drinks and divers washings) carnal ordinances, imposed until a time of reformation.

 9:10 [Which stood] onlyº inº meatsº andº drinks,º andº diversº washings,º andº carnalº ordinances,º imposedºº [on them] untilº the timeº of reformation.º

 9:11 But Christ having come a high priest of the good things to come, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,

 9:11 Butº Christº being comeºº an high priestº of good thingsº to come,ºº byº a greaterº andº more perfectº tabernacle,º notº made with hands,º that is to say,ºº notº of thisº building;º

 9:12 nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption.

 9:12 Neitherº byº the bloodº of goatsº andº calves,º butº byº his ownº bloodº he entered inºº onceº intoº theº holy place,º having obtainedºº eternalº redemptionº [for us].

 9:13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling them that have been defiled, sanctify unto the cleanness of the flesh:

 9:13 Forº ifº theº bloodº of bullsº andº of goats,º andº the ashesº of an heiferº sprinklingºº theº unclean,ºº sanctifiethºº toº theº purifyingº of theº flesh:º

 9:14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish unto God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

 9:14 How muchºº moreº shallºº theº bloodº of Christ,º whoº throughº the eternalº Spiritº offeredºº himselfº without spotº to God,º purgeºº yourº conscienceº fromº deadº worksº toº serveºº the livingºº God?º

 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of a new covenant, that a death having taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, they that have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

 9:15 Andº for thisº causeºº he isºº the mediatorº of the newº testament,º thatº by meansºº of death,ºº forº the redemptionº of theº transgressionsº [that were] underº theº firstº testament,º they which are calledºº might receiveºº theº promiseº of eternalº inheritance.º

 9:16 For where a testament is, there must of necessity be the death of him that made it.

 9:16 Forº whereº a testamentº [is], there must also of necessityº beºº the deathº of theº testator.ºº

 9:17 For a testament is of force where there hath been death: for it doth never avail while he that made it liveth.

 9:17 Forº a testamentº [is] of forceº afterº men are dead:ºº otherwiseº it is ofºº noºº strengthºº at allºº whileº theº testatorºº liveth.ºº

 9:18 Wherefore even the first [covenant] hath not been dedicated without blood.

 9:18 Whereuponº neitherº theº firstº [testament] was dedicatedºº withoutº blood.º

 9:19 For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses unto all the people according to the law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,

 9:19 Forº whenº Mosesº had spokenºº everyº preceptº to allº theº peopleº accordingº to the law,º he tookºº theº bloodº of calvesº andº of goats,º withº water,º andº scarletº wool,º andº hyssop,º and sprinkledºº bothº theº book,ºº andº allº theº people,º

 9:20 saying, This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded to you-ward.

 9:20 Saying,ºº Thisº [is] theº bloodº of theº testamentº whichº Godº hath enjoinedºº untoº you.º

 9:21 Moreover the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry he sprinkled in like manner with the blood.

 9:21 Moreoverºº he sprinkledºº with bloodº bothºº theº tabernacle,º andº allº theº vesselsº of theº ministry.º

 9:22 And according to the law, I may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and apart from shedding of blood there is no remission.

 9:22 Andº almostº all thingsº areºº byº theº lawº purgedºº withº blood;º andº withoutº shedding of bloodº isºº noº remission.º

 9:23 It was necessary therefore that the copies of the things in the heavens should be cleansed with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

 9:23 [It was] thereforeº necessaryº that theºº patternsºº of thingsºº inº theº heavensº should be purifiedºº with these;º butº theº heavenly thingsº themselvesº with betterº sacrificesº thanº these.º

 9:24 For Christ entered not into a holy place made with hands, like in pattern to the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear before the face of God for us:

 9:24 Forº Christº isºº notº enteredºº intoº the holy placesº made with hands,º [which are] the figuresº of theº true;º butº intoº heavenº itself,º nowº to appearºº in theº presenceº of Godº forº us:º

 9:25 nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place year by year with blood not his own;

 9:25 Norº yet thatº he should offerºº himselfº often,º asº theº high priestº enterethºº intoº theº holy placeº everyº yearºº withº bloodº of others;º

 9:26 else must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once at the end of the ages hath he been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

 9:26 For thenº mustºº heº oftenº have sufferedºº sinceº the foundationº of the world:º butº nowº onceº inº the endº of theº worldº hath he appearedºº toº put awayºº sinº byº theº sacrificeº of himself.ºº

 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this [cometh] judgment;

 9:27 Andº asºº it is appointedºº unto menº onceº to die,ºº butº afterº thisº the judgment:º

 9:28 so Christ also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to them that wait for him, unto salvation.

 9:28 Soº Christº was onceº offeredºº toº bearºº the sinsº of many;º and unto them that lookºº forº himº shall he appearººº theº second timeº withoutº sinº untoº salvation.º
