Deuteronomy 9

Moses dissuadeth them from the opinion of their own righteousness, by rehearsing their several rebellions.

 9:1 “Hear 8085, O Israel 3478! You are crossing 5674a over 5674a the Jordan 3383 today 3117 to go 935 in to dispossess 3423 nations 1471 greater 1419 and mightier 6099 than 4480 you, great 1419 cities 5892b fortified 1219 to heaven 8064,

 9:2 a people 5971a great 1419 and tall 7311, the sons 1121 of the Anakim 6062, whom 834 you know 3045 and of whom 834 you have heard 8085 [it said], ‘Who 4310 can stand 3320 before 6440 the sons 1121 of Anak 6061?’

 9:3 “Know 3045 therefore today 3117 that it is the LORD 3068 your God 430 who is crossing 5674a over 5674a before 6440 you as a consuming 398 fire 784. He will destroy 8045 them and He will subdue 3665 them before 6440 you, so that you may drive 3423 them out and destroy 6 them quickly 4118b, just 3512c as the LORD 3068 has spoken 1696 to you.

 9:4 ¶ “Do not say 559 in your heart 3824 when the LORD 3068 your God 430 has driven 1920 them out before 4480 6440 you, ‘Because of my righteousness 6666 the LORD 3068 has brought 935 me in to possess 3423 this 2088 land 776,’ but [it is] because of the wickedness 7564 of these 428 nations 1471 [that] the LORD 3068 is dispossessing 3423 them before 4480 6440 you.

 9:5 “It is not for your righteousness 6666 or for the uprightness 3476 of your heart 3824 that you are going 935 to possess 3423 their land 776, but [it is] because 3588 of the wickedness 7564 of these 428 nations 1471 [that] the LORD 3068 your God 430 is driving 3423 them out before 4480 6440 you, in order 4616 to confirm 6965 the oath 1697 which 834 the LORD 3068 swore 7650 to your fathers 1, to Abraham 85, Isaac 3327 and Jacob 3290.

 9:6 ¶ “Know 3045, then, [it is] not because of your righteousness 6666 [that] the LORD 3068 your God 430 is giving 5414 you this 2088 good 2896a land 776 to possess 3423, for you are a stubborn 7186 6203 people 5971a.

 9:9 “When I went 5927 up to the mountain 2022 to receive 3947 the tablets 3871 of stone 68, the tablets 3871 of the covenant 1285 which 834 the LORD 3068 had made 3772 with you, then I remained 3427 on the mountain 2022 forty 705 days 3117 and nights 3915; I neither 3808 ate 398 bread 3899 nor 3808 drank 8354 water 4325.

 9:10 “The LORD 3068 gave 5414 me the two 8147 tablets 3871 of stone 68 written 3789 by the finger 676 of God 430; and on them [were] all 3605 the words 1697 which 834 the LORD 3068 had spoken 1696 with you at the mountain 2022 from the midst 8432 of the fire 784 on the day 3117 of the assembly 6951.

 9:14 ‘Let 7503 Me alone 4480 7503, that I may destroy 8045 them and blot 4229a out their name 8034 from under 8478 heaven 8064; and I will make 6213a of you a nation 1471 mightier 6099 and greater 7227a than 4480 they.’

 9:15 ¶ “So I turned 6437 and came 3381 down 3381 from the mountain 2022 while the mountain 2022 was burning 1197a with fire 784, and the two 8147 tablets 3871 of the covenant 1285 were in my two 8147 hands 3027.

 9:16 “And I saw 7200 that you had indeed 2009 sinned 2398 against the LORD 3068 your God 430. You had made 6213a for yourselves a molten 4541a calf 5695; you had turned 5493 aside 5493 quickly 4118b from the way 1870 which 834 the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 you.

 9:17 “I took 8610 hold 8610 of the two 8147 tablets 3871 and threw 7993 them from my hands 3027 and smashed 7665 them before your eyes 5869.

 9:22 ¶ “Again at Taberah 8404 and at Massah 4532 and at Kibroth-hattaavah 6914 you provoked 7107 the LORD 3068 to wrath 7107.

 9:23 “When the LORD 3068 sent 7971 you from Kadesh-barnea 6947, saying 559, ‘Go 5927 up and possess 3423 the land 776 which 834 I have given 5414 you,’ then you rebelled 4784 against 854 the command 6310 of the LORD 3068 your God 430; you neither 3808 believed 539 Him nor 3808 listened 8085 to His voice 6963.

 9:24 “You have been 1961 rebellious 4784 against 5973 the LORD 3068 from the day 3117 I knew 3045 you.

 9:25 ¶ “So I fell 5307 down 5307 before 6440 the LORD 3068 the forty 705 days 3117 and nights 3915, which 834 I did 5307 because 3588 the LORD 3068 had said 559 He would destroy 8045 you.

 9:26 “I prayed 6419 to the LORD 3068 and said 559, ‘O Lord 136 GOD 3068, do not destroy 7843 Your people 5971a, even Your inheritance 5159, whom 834 You have redeemed 6299 through Your greatness 1433, whom 834 You have brought 3318 out of Egypt 4714 with a mighty 2389 hand 3027.

 9:27 ‘Remember 2142 Your servants 5650, Abraham 85, Isaac 3327, and Jacob 3290; do not look 6437 at the stubbornness 7190 of this 2088 people 5971a or at their wickedness 7562 or their sin 2403b.

 9:28 ‘Otherwise 6435 the land 776 from which 834 You brought 3318 us may say 559, “Because 4480 1097 the LORD 3068 was not able 3201 to bring 935 them into the land 776 which 834 He had promised 1696 them and because 4480 He hated 8135 them He has brought 3318 them out to slay 4191 them in the wilderness 4057b.”

 9:29 ‘Yet they are Your people 5971a, even Your inheritance 5159, whom 834 You have brought 3318 out by Your great 1419 power 3581b and Your outstretched 5186 arm 2220.’
