1 The blessings for obedience. 15 The curses for disobedience.

 28:1 “Now it shall be, if 518 you diligently 8085 obey 8085 6963 the LORD 3068 your God 430, being 8104 careful 8104 to do 6213a all 3605 His commandments 4687 which 834 I command 6680 you today 3117, the LORD 3068 your God 430 will set 5414 you high 5945a above 5921 all 3605 the nations 1471 of the earth 776.

 28:2 “All 3605 these 428 blessings 1293 will come 935 upon you and overtake 5381 you if 3588 you obey 8085 6963 the LORD 3068 your God 430:

 28:3 ¶ “Blessed 1288 [shall] you [be] in the city 5892b, and blessed 1288 [shall] you [be] in the country 7704.

 28:4 ¶ “Blessed 1288 [shall be] the offspring 6529 of your body 990 and the produce 6529 of your ground 127 and the offspring 6529 of your beasts 929, the increase 7698 of your herd 504 and the young 6251 of your flock 6629.

 28:5 ¶ “Blessed 1288 [shall be] your basket 2935 and your kneading 4863 bowl 4863.

 28:6 ¶ “Blessed 1288 [shall] you [be] when you come 935 in, and blessed 1288 [shall] you [be] when you go 3318 out.

 28:7 ¶ “The LORD 3068 shall cause 5414 your enemies 340 who rise 6965 up against 5921 you to be defeated 5062 before 6440 you; they will come 3318 out against 413 you one 259 way 1870 and will flee 5127 before 6440 you seven 7651 ways 1870.

 28:8 “The LORD 3068 will command 6680 the blessing 1293 upon you in your barns 618 and in all 3605 that you put 4916a your hand 3027 to, and He will bless 1288 you in the land 776 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 gives 5414 you.

 28:9 “The LORD 3068 will establish 6965 you as a holy 6918 people 5971a to Himself, as He swore 7650 to you, if 3588 you keep 8104 the commandments 4687 of the LORD 3068 your God 430 and walk 1980 in His ways 1870.

 28:10 “So all 3605 the peoples 5971a of the earth 776 will see 7200 that you are called 7121 by the name 8034 of the LORD 3068, and they will be afraid 3372a of you.

 28:11 “The LORD 3068 will make you abound 3498 in prosperity 2899b, in the offspring 6529 of your body 990 and in the offspring 6529 of your beast 929 and in the produce 6529 of your ground 127, in the land 127 which 834 the LORD 3068 swore 7650 to your fathers 1 to give 5414 you.

 28:12 “The LORD 3068 will open 6605a for you His good 2896a storehouse 214, the heavens 8064, to give 5414 rain 4306 to your land 776 in its season 6256 and to bless 1288 all 3605 the work 4639 of your hand 3027; and you shall lend 3867b to many 7227a nations 1471, but you shall not borrow 3867b.

 28:13 “The LORD 3068 will make 5414 you the head 7218 and not the tail 2180, and you only 7534 will be above 4605, and you will not be underneath 4295, if 3588 you listen 8085 to the commandments 4687 of the LORD 3068 your God 430, which 834 I charge 6680 you today 3117, to observe 6213a [them] carefully 6213a,

 28:14 and do not turn 5493 aside 5493 from any 3605 of the words 1697 which 834 I command 6680 you today 3117, to the right 3225 or to the left 8040, to go 1980 after 310 other 312 gods 430 to serve 5647 them.

 28:15 ¶ “But it shall come 1961 about, if 518 you do not obey 8085 6963 the LORD 3068 your God 430, to observe 6213a to do 6213a all 3605 His commandments 4687 and His statutes 2708 with which 834 I charge 6680 you today 3117, that all 3605 these 428 curses 7045 will come 935 upon you and overtake 5381 you:

 28:16 ¶ “Cursed 779 [shall] you [be] in the city 5892b, and cursed 779 [shall] you [be] in the country 7704.

 28:17 ¶ “Cursed 779 [shall be] your basket 2935 and your kneading 4863 bowl 4863.

 28:18 ¶ “Cursed 779 [shall be] the offspring 6529 of your body 990 and the produce 6529 of your ground 127, the increase 7698 of your herd 504 and the young 6251 of your flock 6629.

 28:19 ¶ “Cursed 779 [shall] you [be] when you come 935 in, and cursed 779 [shall] you [be] when you go 3318 out.

 28:20 ¶ “The LORD 3068 will send 7971 upon you curses 3994, confusion 4103, and rebuke 4045, in all 3605 you undertake 3027 4916a to do 6213a, until 5704 you are destroyed 8045 and until 5704 you perish 6 quickly 4118b, on account 4480 6440 of the evil 7455 of your deeds 4611, because 834 you have forsaken 5800a Me.

 28:21 “The LORD 3068 will make the pestilence 1698 cling 1692 to you until 5704 He has consumed 3615 you from the land 127 where 834 8033 you are entering 935 to possess 3423 it.

 28:22 “The LORD 3068 will smite 5221 you with consumption 7829 and with fever 6920 and with inflammation 1816 and with fiery 2746 heat 2746 and with the sword 2719 and with blight 7711b and with mildew 3420, and they will pursue 7291 you until 5704 you perish 6.

 28:23 “The heaven 8064 which 834 is over 5921 your head 7218 shall be bronze 5178, and the earth 776 which 834 is under 8478 you, iron 1270.

 28:24 “The LORD 3068 will make 5414 the rain 4306 of your land 776 powder 80 and dust 6083; from heaven 8064 it shall come 3381 down 3381 on you until 5704 you are destroyed 8045.

 28:25 ¶ “The LORD 3068 shall cause 5414 you to be defeated 5062 before 6440 your enemies 340; you will go 3318 out one 259 way 1870 against 413 them, but you will flee 5127 seven 7651 ways 1870 before 6440 them, and you will be [an example of] terror 2113 to all 3605 the kingdoms 4467 of the earth 776.

 28:26 “Your carcasses 5038 will be food 3978 to all 3605 birds 5775 of the sky 8064 and to the beasts 929 of the earth 776, and there 369 will be no 369 one 369 to frighten 2729 [them] away 2729.

 28:27 ¶ “The LORD 3068 will smite 5221 you with the boils 7822 of Egypt 4714 and with tumors 6076b and with the scab 1618 and with the itch 2775b, from which 834 you cannot 3201 3808 be healed 7495.

 28:28 “The LORD 3068 will smite 5221 you with madness 7697 and with blindness 5788a and with bewilderment 8541 of heart 3824;

 28:29 and you will grope 4959 at noon 6672a, as the blind 5787 man 5787 gropes 4959 in darkness 653, and you will not prosper 6743b in your ways 1870; but you shall only 389 be oppressed 6231 and robbed 1497 continually 3605 3117, with none 369 to save 3467 you.

 28:30 “You shall betroth 781 a wife 802, but another 312 man 376 will violate 7693 her; you shall build 1129 a house 1004, but you will not live 3427 in it; you shall plant 5193 a vineyard 3754, but you will not use 2490c its fruit 2490c.

 28:31 “Your ox 7794 shall be slaughtered 2873 before your eyes 5869, but you will not eat 398 of it; your donkey 2543 shall be torn 1497 away 1497 from you, and will not be restored 7725 to you; your sheep 6629 shall be given 5414 to your enemies 340, and you will have 369 none 369 to save 3467 you.

 28:32 “Your sons 1121 and your daughters 1323 shall be given 5414 to another 312 people 5971a, while your eyes 5869 look 7200 on and yearn 3616 for them continually 3605 3117; but there 369 will be nothing 369 you can do 3027.

 28:33 “A people 5971a whom 834 you do not know 3045 shall eat 398 up the produce 6529 of your ground 127 and all 3605 your labors 3018, and you will never 7534 be anything 7534 but oppressed 6231 and crushed 7533 continually 3605 3117.

 28:34 “You shall be driven 7696 mad 7696 by the sight 4758 of what 834 you see 7200.

 28:35 “The LORD 3068 will strike 5221 you on the knees 1290 and legs 7785 with sore 7451a boils 7822, from which 834 you cannot 3201 3808 be healed 7495, from the sole 3709 of your foot 7272 to the crown 6936 of your head 6936.

 28:36 “The LORD 3068 will bring 1980 you and your king 4428, whom 834 you set 6965 over 5921 you, to a nation 1471 which 834 neither 3808 you nor 3808 your fathers 1 have known 3045, and there 8033 you shall serve 5647 other 312 gods 430, wood 6086 and stone 68.

 28:37 “You shall become 1961 a horror 8047, a proverb 4912, and a taunt 8148 among all 3605 the people 5971a where 834 8033 the LORD 3068 drives 5090a you.

 28:38 ¶ “You shall bring 3318 out much 7227a seed 2233 to the field 7704 but you will gather 622 in little 4592, for the locust 697 will consume 2628 it.

 28:39 “You shall plant 5193 and cultivate 5647 vineyards 3754, but you will neither 3808 drink 8354 of the wine 3196 nor 3808 gather 103 [the grapes], for the worm 8439b will devour 398 them.

 28:40 “You shall have 1961 olive 2132 trees 2132 throughout 3605 your territory 1366 but you will not anoint 5480a yourself with the oil 8081, for your olives 2132 will drop 5394 off 5394.

 28:41 “You shall have 3205 sons 1121 and daughters 1323 but they will not be yours, for they will go 1980 into captivity 7628b.

 28:42 “The cricket 6767c shall possess 3423 all 3605 your trees 6086 and the produce 6529 of your ground 127.

 28:43 “The alien 1616 who 834 is among 7130 you shall rise 5927 above 5921 you higher 4605 and higher 4605, but you will go 3381 down 3381 lower 4295 and lower 4295.

 28:44 “He shall lend 3867b to you, but you will not lend 3867b to him; he shall be the head 7218, and you will be the tail 2180.

 28:45 ¶ “So all 3605 these 428 curses 7045 shall come 935 on you and pursue 7291 you and overtake 5381 you until 5704 you are destroyed 8045, because 3588 you would not obey 8085 6963 the LORD 3068 your God 430 by keeping 8104 His commandments 4687 and His statutes 2708 which 834 He commanded 6680 you.

 28:46 “They shall become 1961 a sign 226 and a wonder 4159 on you and your descendants 2233 forever 5704 5769.

 28:47 ¶ “Because 8478 834 you did not serve 5647 the LORD 3068 your God 430 with joy 8057 and a glad 2898 heart 3824, for the abundance 7230 of all 3605 things 3605;

 28:48 therefore you shall serve 5647 your enemies 340 whom 834 the LORD 3068 will send 7971 against you, in hunger 7458, in thirst 6772, in nakedness 5903, and in the lack 2640 of all 3605 things 3605; and He will put 5414 an iron 1270 yoke 5923 on your neck 6677 until 5704 He has destroyed 8045 you.

 28:49 ¶ “The LORD 3068 will bring 5375 a nation 1471 against 5921 you from afar 7350, from the end 7097a of the earth 776, as the eagle 5404 swoops 1675 down 1675, a nation 1471 whose 834 language 3956 you shall not understand 8085,

 28:50 a nation 1471 of fierce 5794 countenance 6440 who 834 will have 5375 no 3808 respect 6440 for the old 2205, nor 3808 show 2603a favor 2603a to the young 5288.

 28:51 “Moreover, it shall eat 398 the offspring 6529 of your herd 929 and the produce 6529 of your ground 127 until 5704 you are destroyed 8045, who 834 also leaves 7604 you no 3808 grain 1715, new 8492 wine 8492, or oil 3323, nor 3808 the increase 7698 of your herd 504 or the young 6251 of your flock 6629 until 5704 they have caused you to perish 6.

 28:52 “It shall besiege 6887a you in all 3605 your towns 8179 until 5704 your high 1364 and fortified 1219 walls 2346 in which 834 you trusted 982 come 3381 down 3381 throughout 3605 your land 776, and it shall besiege 6887a you in all 3605 your towns 8179 throughout 3605 your land 776 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 has given 5414 you.

 28:53 “Then you shall eat 398 the offspring 6529 of your own body 990, the flesh 1320 of your sons 1121 and of your daughters 1323 whom 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 has given 5414 you, during the siege 4692 and the distress 4689 by which 834 your enemy 340 will oppress 6693 you.

 28:54 “The man 376 who is refined 7390 and very 3966 delicate 6028 among you shall be hostile 7489a toward his brother 251 and toward the wife 802 he cherishes 2436 and toward the rest 3499a of his children 1121 who 834 remain 3498,

 28:55 so 4480 that he will not give 5414 [even] one 259 of them any 4480 of the flesh 1320 of his children 1121 which 834 he will eat 398, since 4480 he has nothing 1097 3605 [else] left 7604, during the siege 4692 and the distress 4689 by which 834 your enemy 340 will oppress 6693 you in all 3605 your towns 8179.

 28:56 “The refined 7390 and delicate 6028 woman 6028 among you, who 834 would not venture 5254 to set 3322 the sole 3709 of her foot 7272 on the ground 776 for delicateness 6026 and refinement 7391, shall be hostile 7489a toward the husband 376 she cherishes 2436 and toward her son 1121 and daughter 1323,

 28:57 and toward her afterbirth 7988 which issues 3318 from between 996 her legs 7272 and toward her children 1121 whom 834 she bears 3205; for she will eat 398 them secretly 5643a for lack 2640 of anything 3605 [else], during the siege 4692 and the distress 4689 by which 834 your enemy 340 will oppress 6693 you in your towns 8179.

 28:58 ¶ “If 518 you are not careful 8104 to observe 6213a all 3605 the words 1697 of this 2088 law 8451 which are written 3789 in this 2088 book 5612, to fear 3372a this 2088 honored 3513 and awesome 3372a name 8034, the LORD 3068 your God 430,

 28:59 then the LORD 3068 will bring 6381 extraordinary 6381 plagues 4347 on you and your descendants 2233, even severe 1419 and lasting 539 plagues 4347, and miserable 7451a and chronic 539 sicknesses 2483.

 28:60 “He will bring 7725 back 7725 on you all 3605 the diseases 4064 of Egypt 4714 of which 834 you were afraid 3025, and they will cling 1692 to you.

 28:61 “Also 1571 every 3605 sickness 2483 and every 3605 plague 4347 which 834, not written 3789 in the book 5612 of this 2088 law 8451, the LORD 3068 will bring 5927 on you until 5704 you are destroyed 8045.

 28:62 “Then you shall be left 7604 few 4592 in number 4962, whereas 8478 834 you were as numerous 7230 as the stars 3556 of heaven 8064, because 3588 you did not obey 8085 6963 the LORD 3068 your God 430.

 28:63 “It shall come 1961 about that as the LORD 3068 delighted 7797 over 5921 you to prosper 3190 you, and multiply 7235a you, so 3651 the LORD 3068 will delight 7797 over 5921 you to make you perish 6 and destroy 8045 you; and you will be torn 5255 from the land 127 where 834 8033 you are entering 935 to possess 3423 it.

 28:64 “Moreover, the LORD 3068 will scatter 6327a you among all 3605 peoples 5971a, from one end 7097a of the earth 776 to the other end 7097a of the earth 776; and there 8033 you shall serve 5647 other 312 gods 430, wood 6086 and stone 68, which 834 you or your fathers 1 have not known 3045.

 28:65 “Among those 1992a nations 1471 you shall find 7280b no 3808 rest 7280b, and there will be no 3808 resting 4496 place 4494 for the sole 3709 of your foot 7272; but there 8033 the LORD 3068 will give 5414 you a trembling 7268 heart 3820, failing 3631 of eyes 5869, and despair 1671 of soul 5315.

 28:66 “So your life 2425b shall hang 8511 in doubt before you; and you will be in dread 6342 night 3915 and day 3119, and shall have 539 no 3808 assurance 539 of your life 2425b.

 28:67 “In the morning 1242 you shall say 559, ‘Would 4310 5414 that it were evening 6153!’ And at evening 6153 you shall say 559, ‘Would 4310 5414 that it were morning 1242!’ because 4480 of the dread 6343 of your heart 3824 which 834 you dread 6342, and for the sight 4758 of your eyes 5869 which 834 you will see 7200.

 28:68 “The LORD 3068 will bring 7725 you back 7725 to Egypt 4714 in ships 591, by the way 1870 about which 834 I spoke 559 to you, ‘You will never 3808 see 7200 it again 3254!’ And there 8033 you will offer 4376 yourselves for sale 4376 to your enemies 340 as male 5650 and female 8198 slaves 8198 5650, but there 369 will be no 369 buyer 7069.”
