Deuteronomy 18

1 The LORD is the priests' and Levites' inheritance. 3 The priest's due. 6 The Levite's portion. 9 The abominations of the nations are to be avoided. 15 Christ the Prophet is to be heard. 20 The presumptuous prophet is to die.

 18:1 “The Levitical 3881 priests 3548, the whole 3605 tribe 7626 of Levi 3878, shall have 1961 no 3808 portion 2506 or inheritance 5159 with Israel 3478; they shall eat 398 the LORD’S 3068 offerings 801 by fire 801 and His portion 5159.

 18:2 “They shall have 1961 no 3808 inheritance 5159 among 7130 their countrymen 251; the LORD 3068 is their inheritance 5159, as He promised 1696 them.

 18:3 ¶ “Now this 2088 shall be the priests’ 3548 due 4941 from the people 5971a, from those who offer 2076 a sacrifice 2076, either 518 an ox 7794 or 518 a sheep 7716, of which they shall give 5414 to the priest 3548 the shoulder 2220 and the two 3895 cheeks 3895 and the stomach 6896.

 18:4 “You shall give 5414 him the first 7225 fruits 7225 of your grain 1715, your new 8492 wine 8492, and your oil 3323, and the first 7225 shearing 1488 of your sheep 6629.

 18:5 “For the LORD 3068 your God 430 has chosen 977 him and his sons 1121 from all 3605 your tribes 7626, to stand 5975 and serve 8334 in the name 8034 of the LORD 3068 forever 3605 3117.

 18:6 ¶ “Now if 3588 a Levite 3881 comes 935 from any 259 of your towns 8179 throughout 4480 3605 Israel 3478 where 834 8033 he resides 1481a, and comes 935 whenever 3605 he desires 185 to the place 4725 which 834 the LORD 3068 chooses 977,

 18:7 then he shall serve 8334 in the name 8034 of the LORD 3068 his God 430, like all 3605 his fellow 251 Levites 3881 who stand 5975 there 8033 before 6440 the LORD 3068.

 18:8 “They shall eat 398 equal 2506 portions 2506, except 905 [what they receive] from the sale 4465 of their fathers’ 1 [estates].

 18:9 ¶ “When 3588 you enter 935 the land 776 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 gives 5414 you, you shall not learn 3925 to imitate 6213a the detestable 8441 things 8441 of those 1992a nations 1471.

 18:10 “There shall not be found 4672 among you anyone who makes his son 1121 or his daughter 1323 pass 5674a through the fire 784, one who uses 7080 divination 7081, one who practices 6049a witchcraft 6049a, or one who interprets 5172 omens 5172, or a sorcerer 3784,

 18:11 or one who casts 2266 a spell 2267, or a medium 7592 178, or a spiritist 3049, or one who calls 1875 up the dead 4191.

 18:12 “For whoever 3605 does 6213a these 428 things 428 is detestable 8441 to the LORD 3068; and because 1558 of these 428 detestable 8441 things 8441 the LORD 3068 your God 430 will drive 3423 them out before 4480 6440 you.

 18:13 “You shall be blameless 8549 before 5973 the LORD 3068 your God 430.

 18:14 “For those 428 nations 1471, which 834 you shall dispossess 3423, listen 8085 to those who practice 6049a witchcraft 6049a and to diviners 7080, but as for you, the LORD 3068 your God 430 has not allowed 5414 you [to do] so 3651.

 18:15 ¶ “The LORD 3068 your God 430 will raise 6965 up for you a prophet 5030 like 3644 me from among 7130 you, from your countrymen 251, you shall listen 8085 to him.

 18:16 “This is according to all 3605 that you asked 7592 of the LORD 3068 your God 430 in Horeb 2722 on the day 3117 of the assembly 6951, saying 559, ‘Let me not hear 8085 again 3254 the voice 6963 of the LORD 3068 my God 430, let me not see 7200 this 2088 great 1419 fire 784 anymore 5750, or 3808 I will die 4191.’

 18:17 “The LORD 3068 said 559 to me, ‘They have spoken 1696 well 3190.

 18:18 ‘I will raise 6965 up a prophet 5030 from among 7130 their countrymen 251 like 3644 you, and I will put 5414 My words 1697 in his mouth 6310, and he shall speak 1696 to them all 3605 that I command 6680 him.

 18:19 ‘It shall come 1961 about that whoever 376 834 will not listen 8085 to My words 1697 which 834 he shall speak 1696 in My name 8034, I Myself 595 will require 1875 [it] of him.

 18:20 ‘But the prophet 5030 who 834 speaks 1696 a word 1697 presumptuously 2102 in My name 8034 which 834 I have not commanded 6680 him to speak 1696, or which 834 he speaks 1696 in the name 8034 of other 312 gods 430, that prophet 5030 shall die 4191.’

 18:21 “You may say 559 in your heart 3824, ‘How 351a will we know 3045 the word 1697 which 834 the LORD 3068 has not spoken 1696?’

 18:22 “When 834 a prophet 5030 speaks 1696 in the name 8034 of the LORD 3068, if the thing 1697 does not come 1961 about or come 935 true, that is the thing 1697 which 834 the LORD 3068 has not spoken 1696. The prophet 5030 has spoken 1696 it presumptuously 2087; you shall not be afraid 1481c of him.
