1 Chronicles 23

1 David in his old age maketh Solomon king. 2 The number and distribution of the Levites. 7 The families of the Gershonites. 12 The sons of Kohath. 21 The sons of Merari. 24 The office of the Levites.

 23:1 Now when David 1732 reached 2204 old 2204 age 3117, he made 4427a his son 1121 Solomon 8010 king 4427a over 5921 Israel 3478.

 23:2 And he gathered 622 together all 3605 the leaders 8269 of Israel 3478 with the priests 3548 and the Levites 3881.

 23:3 The Levites 3881 were numbered 5608 from thirty 7970 years 8141 old 1121 and upward 4605, and their number 4557 by census 1538 of men 1397 was 38,000 7970 8083 505.

 23:4 Of these 428, 24,000 702 6242 505 were to oversee 5329 the work 4399 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068; and 6,000 8337a 505 [were] officers 7860 and judges 8199,

 23:5 and 4,000 702 505 [were] gatekeepers 7778, and 4,000 702 505 [were] praising 1984b the LORD 3068 with the instruments 3627 which 834 David made 6213a for giving 1984b praise 1984b.

 23:6 David 1732 divided 2505a them into divisions 4256 according to the sons 1121 of Levi 3878: Gershon 1648, Kohath 6955, and Merari 4847.

 23:7 ¶ Of the Gershonites 1649 [were] Ladan 3936 and Shimei 8096.

 23:8 The sons 1121 of Ladan 3936 [were] Jehiel 3171 the first 7218 and Zetham 2241 and Joel 3100, three 7969.

 23:9 The sons 1121 of Shimei 8096 [were] Shelomoth 8013 and Haziel 2381 and Haran 2039, three 7969. These 428 were the heads 7218 of the fathers’ 1 [households] of Ladan 3936.

 23:10 The sons 1121 of Shimei 8096 [were] Jahath 3189, Zina 2126, Jeush 3266 and Beriah 1283. These 428 four 702 [were] the sons 1121 of Shimei 8096.

 23:11 Jahath 3189 was the first 7218 and Zizah 2125 the second 8145; but Jeush 3266 and Beriah 1283 did not have many 7235a sons 1121, so they became 1961 a father’s 1 household 1004, one 259 class 6486.

 23:12 ¶ The sons 1121 of Kohath 6955 were four 702: Amram 6019, Izhar 3324, Hebron 2275b and Uzziel 5816.

 23:13 The sons 1121 of Amram 6019 were Aaron 175 and Moses 4872. And Aaron 175 was set 914 apart 914 to sanctify 6942 him as most 6944 holy 6944, he and his sons 1121 forever 5704 5769, to burn 6999 incense 6999 before 6440 the LORD 3068, to minister 8334 to Him and to bless 1288 in His name 8034 forever 5704 5769.

 23:14 But [as for] Moses 4872 the man 376 of God 430, his sons 1121 were named 7121 among 5921 the tribe 7626 of Levi 3878.

 23:15 The sons 1121 of Moses 4872 [were] Gershom 1647 and Eliezer 461.

 23:16 The son 1121 of Gershom 1647 [was] Shebuel 7619 the chief 7218.

 23:17 The son 1121 of Eliezer 461 was Rehabiah 7345 the chief 7218; and Eliezer 461 had 1961 no 3808 other 312 sons 1121, but the sons 1121 of Rehabiah 7345 were very 4605 many 7235a.

 23:18 The son 1121 of Izhar 3324 was Shelomith 8019a the chief 7218.

 23:19 The sons 1121 of Hebron 2275b [were] Jeriah 3404 the first 7218, Amariah 568 the second 8145, Jahaziel 3166 the third 7992 and Jekameam 3360 the fourth 7243.

 23:20 The sons 1121 of Uzziel 5816 [were] Micah 4318 the first 7218 and Isshiah 3449 the second 8145.

 23:21 ¶ The sons 1121 of Merari 4847 were Mahli 4249 and Mushi 4187. The sons 1121 of Mahli 4249 [were] Eleazar 499 and Kish 7027.

 23:22 Eleazar 499 died 4191 and had 1961 no 3808 sons 1121, but daughters 1323 only 518, so their brothers 251, the sons 1121 of Kish 7027, took 5375 them [as wives].

 23:23 The sons 1121 of Mushi 4187 [were] three 7969: Mahli 4249, Eder 5740a and Jeremoth 3406.

 23:24 ¶ These 428 were the sons 1121 of Levi 3878 according to their fathers’ 1 households 1004, [even] the heads 7218 of the fathers’ 1 [households] of those of them who were counted 6485, in the number 4557 of names 8034 by their census 1538, doing 6213a the work 4399 for the service 5656 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068, from twenty 6242 years 8141 old 1121 and upward 4605.

 23:25 For David 1732 said 559, “The LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478 has given 5117 rest 5117 to His people 5971a, and He dwells 7931 in Jerusalem 3389 forever 5704 5769.

 23:26 “Also 1571, the Levites 3881 will no 369 longer need to carry 5375 the tabernacle 4908 and all 3605 its utensils 3627 for its service 5656.”

 23:27 For by the last 314 words 1697 of David 1732 the sons 1121 of Levi 3878 [were] numbered 4557 from twenty 6242 years 8141 old 1121 and upward 4605.

 23:28 For their office 4612 is to assist 3027 the sons 1121 of Aaron 175 with the service 5656 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068, in the courts 2691a and in the chambers 3957 and in the purifying 2893 of all 3605 holy 6944 things 6944, even the work 4639 of the service 5656 of the house 1004 of God 430,

 23:29 and with the showbread 3899 4635, and the fine 5560 flour 5560 for a grain offering 4503, and unleavened 4682 wafers 7550, or [what is baked in] the pan 4227 or what is well-mixed 7246, and all 3605 measures 4060a of volume 4884 and size 4060a.

 23:30 They are to stand 5975 every 1242 morning 1242 to thank 3034 and to praise 1984b the LORD 3068, and likewise 3651 at evening 6153,

 23:31 and to offer 5927 all 3605 burnt 5930a offerings 5930a to the LORD 3068, on the sabbaths 7676, the new 2320 moons 2320 and the fixed 4150 festivals 4150 in the number 4557 [set] by the ordinance 4941 concerning 5921 them, continually 8548 before 6440 the LORD 3068.

 23:32 Thus they are to keep 8104 charge 4931 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150, and charge 4931 of the holy 6944 place, and charge 4931 of the sons 1121 of Aaron 175 their relatives 251, for the service 5656 of the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.
