1 Saul's overthrow and death. 8 The Philistines triumph over Saul. 11 The kindness of Jabesh-gilead towards Saul and his sons. 13 Saul's sin, for which the kingdom was translated from him to David.

 10:1 Now the Philistines 6430 fought 3898a against Israel 3478; and the men 376 of Israel 3478 fled 5127 before 4480 6440 the Philistines 6430 and fell 5307 slain 2491a on Mount 2022 Gilboa 1533.

 10:2 The Philistines 6430 closely 1692 pursued 1692 Saul 7586 and his sons 1121, and the Philistines 6430 struck 5221 down 5221 Jonathan 3083, Abinadab 41 and Malchi-shua 4444, the sons 1121 of Saul 7586.

 10:3 The battle 4421 became 3513 heavy 3513 against 5921 Saul 7586, and the archers 3384 7198 overtook 4672 him; and he was wounded 2342a by the archers 3384.

 10:4 Then Saul 7586 said 559 to his armor 3627 bearer 5375, “Draw 8025 your sword 2719 and thrust 1856 me through 1856 with it, otherwise 6435 these 428 uncircumcised 6189 will come 935 and abuse 5953a me.” But his armor 3627 bearer 5375 would 14 not, for he was greatly 3966 afraid 3372a. Therefore Saul 7586 took 3947 his sword 2719 and fell 5307 on it.

 10:5 When his armor 3627 bearer 5375 saw 7200 that Saul 7586 was dead 4191, he likewise 1571 fell 5307 on his sword 2719 and died 4191.

 10:6 Thus Saul 7586 died 4191 with his three 7969 sons 1121, and all 3605 [those] of his house 1004 died 4191 together 3164a.

 10:7 ¶ When all 3605 the men 376 of Israel 3478 who 834 were in the valley 6010 saw 7200 that they had fled 5127, and that Saul 7586 and his sons 1121 were dead 4191, they forsook 5800a their cities 5892b and fled 5127; and the Philistines 6430 came 935 and lived 3427 in them.

 10:8 ¶ It came 1961 about the next 4283 day 4283, when the Philistines 6430 came 935 to strip 6584 the slain 2491a, that they found 4672 Saul 7586 and his sons 1121 fallen 5307 on Mount 2022 Gilboa 1533.

 10:9 So they stripped 6584 him and took 5375 his head 7218 and his armor 3627 and sent 7971 [messengers] around 5439 the land 776 of the Philistines 6430 to carry 1319 the good news 1319 to their idols 6091 and to the people 5971a.

 10:10 They put 7760 his armor 3627 in the house 1004 of their gods 430 and fastened 8628 his head 1538 in the house 1004 of Dagon 1712.

 10:11 When all 3605 Jabesh-gilead 3003 1568 heard 8085 all 3605 that the Philistines 6430 had done 6213a to Saul 7586,

 10:12 all 3605 the valiant 2428 men 376 arose 6965 and took 5375 away the body 1480 of Saul 7586 and the bodies 1480 of his sons 1121 and brought 935 them to Jabesh 3003, and they buried 6912 their bones 6106 under 8478 the oak 424 in Jabesh 3003, and fasted 6684 seven 7651 days 3117.

 10:13 ¶ So Saul 7586 died 4191 for his trespass 4604 which 834 he committed 4603 against the LORD 3068, because 5921 of the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 which 834 he did not keep 8104; and also 1571 because he asked 7592 counsel of a medium 178, making 1875 inquiry 1875 [of it],

 10:14 and did not inquire 1875 of the LORD 3068. Therefore He killed 4191 him and turned 5437 the kingdom 4410 to David 1732 the son 1121 of Jesse 3448.
