 10:1 ¶ Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº [is] an emptyºº vine,º he bringeth forthºº fruitº unto himself: according to the multitudeº of his fruitº he hath increasedºº the altars;º according to the goodnessº of his landº they have made goodlyººº images.º

 10:1 ¶ Yisrael [is] an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.

 10:2 Their heartº is divided;ºº nowº shall they be found faulty:ºº heº shall break downºº their altars,º he shall spoilºº their images.º

 10:2 Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.

 10:3 Forº nowº they shall say,ºº We have noº king,º becauseº we fearedºº notºº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º whatº then should a kingº doºº to us?

 10:3 For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not Yahweh; what then should a king do to us?

 10:4 They have spokenºº words,º swearingºº falselyº in makingºº a covenant:º thus judgmentº springeth upºº as hemlockº inº the furrowsº of the field.º

 10:4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

 10:5 The inhabitantsº of Šömrôn שֹׁמרוֹןº shall fearºº because of the calvesº of Bê± ´Äwen בֵּית־אָוֶן:º forº the peopleº thereof shall mournºº overº it, and the priestsº thereof [that] rejoicedºº onº it, forº the gloryº thereof, becauseº it is departedºº fromº it.

 10:5 The inhabitants of Shomron shall fear because of the calves of Beth-Awen: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof [that] rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

 10:6 It shall be alsoº carriedºº unto ´Aššûr אַשּׁוּרº [for] a presentº to kingº Yärëv יָרֵב:º ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִםº shall receiveºº shame,º and Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº shall be ashamedºº of his own counsel.ºº

 10:6 It shall be also carried unto Ashshur [for] a present to king Yarev: Efrayim shall receive shame, and Yisrael shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

 10:7 [As for] Šömrôn שֹׁמרוֹן,º her kingº is cut offºº as the foamº uponºº the water.º

 10:7 [As for] Shomron, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.

 10:8 The high placesº also of ´Äwen אָוֶן,º the sinº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º shall be destroyed:ºº the thornº and the thistleº shall come upºº onº their altars;º and they shall sayºº to the mountains,º Coverºº us; and to the hills,º Fallºº onº us.

 10:8 The high places also of Awen, the sin of Yisrael, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

 10:9 O Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º thou hast sinnedºº from the daysºº of Giv`à גִּבעָה:º thereº they stood:ºº the battleº in Giv`à גִּבעָהº againstº the childrenº of iniquityº did notº overtakeºº them.

 10:9 O Yisrael, thou hast sinned from the days of Givah: there they stood: the battle in Givah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.

 10:10 [It is] in my desireº that I should chastiseºº them; and the peopleº shall be gatheredºº againstº them, when they shall bindºº themselves in their twoº furrows.º

 10:10 [It is] in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.

 10:11 And ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִםº [is as] an heiferº [that is] taught,ºº [and] lovethºº to tread outºº [the corn]; but Iº passed overºº uponº her fairº neck:º I will make ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִםº to ride;ºº Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº shall plow,ºº [and] Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº shall break his clods.ºº

 10:11 And Efrayim [is as] an heifer [that is] taught, [and] loveth to tread out [the corn]; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Efrayim to ride; Yehudah shall plow, [and] Yaaqov shall break his clods.

 10:12 Sowºº to yourselves in righteousness,º reapºº inº mercy;º break upºº your fallow ground:º for [it is] timeº to seekººº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º tillº he comeºº and rainºº righteousnessº upon you.

 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for [it is] time to seek Yahweh, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

 10:13 Ye have plowedºº wickedness,º ye have reapedºº iniquity;º ye have eatenºº the fruitº of lies:º becauseº thou didst trustºº in thy way,º in the multitudeº of thy mighty men.º

 10:13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.

 10:14 Therefore shall a tumultº ariseºº among thy people,º and allº thy fortressesº shall be spoiled,ºº as Šalman שַׁלמַןº spoiledº Bê± ´Arvë´l בֵּית־אַרבֵאלº in the dayº of battle:º the motherº was dashed in piecesºº uponº [her] children.º

 10:14 Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth-Arvel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon [her] children.

 10:15 Soº shall Bê± ´Ël בֵּית־אֵלº doºº unto you becauseºº of your greatº wickedness:º in a morningº shall the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº utterlyºº be cut off.ºº

 10:15 So shall Beth-El do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Yisrael utterly be cut off.
