 1:1 ¶ And it came to pass after the death of Mosheh{gr.Moses}, that the Lord spoke to Joshua{gr.Jesus} the son of Nun{gr.Naue}, the minister of Mosheh{gr.Moses}, saying,

 1:1 ¶ Now afterº the deathº of Mosesº the servantº of Yahwehº it came to pass,º that Yahwehº spakeºº untoº Joshuaº the sonº of Nun,º Moses'º minister,ºº saying,ºº

 1:2 Mosheh{gr.Moses} my servant is dead; now then arise, go over Jordan, thou and all this people, into the land, which I give them.

 1:2 Mosesº my servantº is dead;ºº nowº therefore arise,ºº go overººº thisº Jordan,º thou,º and allº thisº people,º untoº the landº whichº Iº do giveºº to them, [even] to the childrenº of Israel.º

 1:3 Every spot on which ye shall tread I will give it to you, as I said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}.

 1:3 Everyº placeº thatº the soleº of your footº shall treadº upon,ºº that have I givenºº unto you, asº I saidºº untoº Moses.º

 1:4 The wilderness and Antilibanus, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, and as far as the extremity of the sea; your costs shall be from the setting of the sun.

 1:4 From the wildernessºº and thisº Lebanonº even untoº the greatº river,º the riverº Euphrates,º allº the landº of the Hittites,º and untoº the greatº seaº toward the going downº of the sun,º shall beº your coast.º

 1:5 Not a man shall stand against you all the days of thy life; and as I was with Mosheh{gr.Moses}, so will I also be with thee, and I will not fail thee, or neglect thee.

 1:5 There shall notº any manº be able to standºº beforeº thee allº the daysº of thy life:º asº I wasº withº Moses,º [so] I will beº withº thee: I will notº failºº thee, norº forsakeºº thee.

 1:6 Be strong and 'quit thyself like a man, for thou shalt divide the land to this people, which I sware to give to your fathers.

 1:6 Be strongºº and of a good courage:ºº forº untoº thisº peopleº shalt thouº divide for an inheritanceººº the land,º whichº I swareºº unto their fathersº to giveºº them.

 1:7 Be strong, therefore, and quit thyself like a man, to observe and do as Mosheh{gr.Moses} my servant commanded thee; and thou shalt not turn therefrom to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest be wise in whatsoever thou mayest do.

 1:7 Onlyº be thou strongºº and veryº courageous,ºº that thou mayest observeºº to doºº according to allº the law,º whichº Mosesº my servantº commandedºº thee: turnºº notº fromº it [to] the right handº or [to] the left,º thatº thou mayest prosperºº whithersoeverºº thou goest.ººº

 1:8 And the book of this law shall not depart out of thy mouth, and thou shalt meditate in it day and night, that thou mayest know how to do all the things that are written [in it]; then shalt thou prosper, and make thy ways prosperous, and then shalt thou be wise.

 1:8 Thisº bookº of the lawº shall notº departºº out of thy mouth;ºº but thou shalt meditateºº therein dayº and night,º thatº thou mayest observeºº to doºº according to allº that is writtenºº therein: forº thenº thou shalt makeººº thy wayº prosperous,ºº and thenº thou shalt have good success.ºº

 1:9 Lo! I have commanded thee; be strong and courageous, be not cowardly nor fearful, for the Lord thy God is with thee in all places whither thou goest.

 1:9 Have notº I commandedºº thee? Be strongºº and of a good courage;ºº be not afraid,ººº neitherº be thou dismayed:ºº forº Yahwehº thy Elohimº [is] withº thee whithersoeverºº thou goest.ººº

 1:10 ¶ And Joshua{gr.Jesus} commanded the scribes of the people, saying,

 1:10 ¶ Then Joshuaº commandedººº the officersºº of the people,º saying,ºº

 1:11 Go into the midst of the camp of the people, and command the people, saying, Prepare provisions; for yet three days and ye shall go over this Jordan, entering in to take possession of the land, which the Lord God of your fathers gives to you.

 1:11 Passºº throughº the host,º and commandººº the people,º saying,ºº Prepareºº you victuals;º forº withinº threeº daysº yeº shall pass overººº thisº Jordan,º to go inºº to possessººº the land,º whichº Yahwehº your Elohimº givethºº you to possessºº it.

 1:12 ¶ And to Reuben{gr.Ruben}, and to Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh{gr.Manasse}, Joshua{gr.Jesus} said,

 1:12 ¶ And to the Reubenites,º and to the Gadites,º and to halfº the tribeº of Manasseh,º spakeºº Joshua,º saying,ºº

 1:13 Remember the word which Mosheh{gr.Moses} the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, the Lord your God has caused you to rest, and has given you this land.

 1:13 Rememberººº the wordº whichº Mosesº the servantº of Yahwehº commandedºº you, saying,ºº Yahwehº your Elohimº hath given you rest,ºº and hath givenºº youº thisº land.º

 1:14 Let your wives and your children and your cattle dwell in the land, which he has given you; and ye shall go over well armed before your brethren, every one of you who is strong; and ye shall fight on their side;

 1:14 Your wives,º your little ones,º and your cattle,º shall remainºº in the landº whichº Mosesº gaveºº you on this sideº Jordan;º but yeº shall passºº beforeº your brethrenº armed,º allº the mightyº menº of valour,º and helpºº them;

 1:15 until the Lord your God shall have given your brethren rest, as also to you, and they also shall have inherited the land, which the Lord your God gives them; then ye shall depart each one to his inheritance, which Mosheh{gr.Moses} gave you beyond Jordan eastward.

 1:15 Untilºº Yahwehº have givenºº your brethrenº rest,ºº as [he hath given] you, and theyº alsoº have possessedººº the landº whichº Yahwehº your Elohimº givethºº them: then ye shall returnºº unto the landº of your possession,º and enjoyºº it, whichº Mosesº Yahweh'sº servantº gaveºº you on this sideº Jordanº toward the sunrising.ºº

 1:16 ¶ And they answered Joshua{gr.Jesus} and said, We will do all things which thou commandest us, and we will go to every place whither thou shalt send us.

 1:16 ¶ And they answeredººº Joshua,º saying,ºº Allº thatº thou commandestºº us we will do,ºº and whithersoeverººº thou sendestºº us, we will go.ººº

 1:17 Whereinsoever we hearkened to Mosheh{gr.Moses} we will hearken to thee; only let the Lord our God be with thee, as he was with Mosheh{gr.Moses}.

 1:17 According as we hearkenedºº untoº Mosesº in allº things,º soº will we hearkenºº untoº thee: onlyº Yahwehº thy Elohimº beº withº thee, asº he wasº withº Moses.º

 1:18 And whosoever shall disobey thee, and whosoever shall not hearken to thy words as thou shalt command him, let him die; but be thou strong and courageous.

 1:18 Whosoeverººº [he be] that doth rebelºº againstºº thy commandment,º and will notº hearkenºº untoºº thy wordsº in allº thatº thou commandestºº him, he shall be put to death:ºº onlyº be strongºº and of a good courage.ºº
