Matthew 26
1 The rulers conspire against Christ. 6 The woman anointeth his head. 14 Judas selleth him. 17 Christ eateth the Passover: 26 instituteth his holy supper: 36 prayeth in the garden: 47 and being betrayed with a kiss, 57 is carried to Caiaphas, 69 and denied of Peter.
26:1
When 3753 Jesus 2424 had finished 5055 all 3956 these 3778 words 3056, He said 3004 to His disciples 3101,
26:2
“You know 3609a that after 3326 two 1417 days 2250 the Passover 3957 is coming 1096, and the Son 5207 of Man 444 is [to be] handed 3860 over for crucifixion 4717.”
26:3
¶ Then 5119 the chief 749 priests 749 and the elders 4245 of the people 2992 were gathered 4863 together 4863 in the court 833 of the high 749 priest 749, named 3004 Caiaphas 2533;
26:4
and they plotted 4823 together 4823 to seize 2902 Jesus 2424 by stealth 1388 and kill 615 Him.
26:5
But they were saying 3004, “Not during 1722 the festival 1859, otherwise 2443 3361 a riot 2351 might occur 1096 among 1722 the people 2992.”
26:6
¶ Now 1161 when Jesus 2424 was in Bethany 963, at the home 3614 of Simon 4613 the leper 3015,
26:7
a woman 1135 came 4334 to Him with an alabaster 211 vial 211 of very 927 costly 927 perfume 3464, and she poured 2708 it on His head 2776 as He reclined 345 [at the table].
26:8
But the disciples 3101 were indignant 23 when they saw 3708 [this], and said 3004, “Why 1519 5101 this 3778 waste 684?
26:9
“For this 3778 [perfume] might 1410 have been sold 4097 for a high 4183 price 4183 and [the money] given 1325 to the poor 4434.”
26:10
But Jesus 2424, aware 1097 of this, said 3004 to them, “Why 5101 do you bother 2873 3930 the woman 1135? For she has done 2038b a good 2570 deed 2041 to Me.
26:11
“For you always 3842 have 2192 the poor 4434 with you; but you do not always 3842 have 2192 Me.
26:12
“For when she poured 906 this 3778 perfume 3464 on My body 4983, she did 4160 it to prepare 1779 Me for burial 1779.
26:13
“Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, wherever 3699 1437 this 3778 gospel 2098 is preached 2784 in the whole 3650 world 2889, what 3739 this 3778 woman 3778 has done 4160 will also 2532 be spoken 2980 of in memory 3422 of her.”
26:14
¶ Then 5119 one 1520 of the twelve 1427, named 3004 Judas 2455 Iscariot 2469, went 4198 to the chief 749 priests 749
26:15
and said 3004, “What 5101 are you willing 2309 to give 1325 me to betray 3860 Him to you?” And they weighed 2476 out thirty 5144b pieces 694 of silver 694 to him.
26:16
From then 5119 on he [began] looking 2212 for a good 2120 opportunity 2120 to betray 3860 Jesus.
26:17
¶ Now 1161 on the first 4413 [day] of Unleavened 106 Bread the disciples 3101 came 4334 to Jesus 2424 and asked 3004, “Where 4226 do You want 2309 us to prepare 2090 for You to eat 2068 the Passover 3957?”
26:18
And He said 3004, “Go 5217 into the city 4172 to a certain 1170 man 1170, and say 3004 to him, ‘The Teacher 1320 says 3004, “My time 2540 is near 1451; I [am to] keep 4160 the Passover 3957 at your house with My disciples 3101.”’”
26:19
The disciples 3101 did 4160 as Jesus 2424 had directed 4929 them; and they prepared 2090 the Passover 3957.
26:20
¶ Now 1161 when evening 3798 came 1096, Jesus was reclining 345 [at the table] with the twelve 1427 disciples 3101.
26:21
As they were eating 2068, He said 3004, “Truly 281 I say 3004 to you that one 1520 of you will betray 3860 Me.”
26:22
Being deeply 4970 grieved 3076, they each 1538 one 1520 began 757 to say 3004 to Him, “Surely 3385 not I, Lord 2962?”
26:23
And He answered 611, “He who dipped 1686 his hand 5495 with Me in the bowl 5165 is the one 3778 who will betray 3860 Me.
26:24
“The Son 5207 of Man 444 [is to] go 5217, just 2531a as it is written 1125 of Him; but woe 3759 to that man 444 by whom 3739 the Son 5207 of Man 444 is betrayed 3860! It would have been 1510 good 2570 for that man 444 if 1487 he had not been born 1080.”
26:25
And Judas 2455, who was betraying 3860 Him, said 3004, “Surely 3385 it is not I, Rabbi 4461?” Jesus *said 3004 to him, “You have said 3004 [it] yourself 4771.”
26:26
¶ While they were eating 2068, Jesus 2424 took 2983 [some] bread 740, and after a blessing 2127, He broke 2806 [it] and gave 1325 [it] to the disciples 3101, and said 3004, “Take 2983, eat 2068; this 3778 is My body 4983.”
26:27
And when He had taken 2983 a cup 4221 and given 1325 thanks 2168, He gave 1325 [it] to them, saying 3004, “Drink 4095 from it, all 3956 of you;
26:28
for this 3778 is My blood 129 of the covenant 1242, which is poured 1632b out for many 4183 for forgiveness 859 of sins 266.
26:29
“But I say 3004 to you, I will not drink 4095 of this 3778 fruit 1079b of the vine 288 from now 737 on until 2193 that day 2250 when 3752 I drink 4095 it new 2537 with you in My Father’s 3962 kingdom 932.”
26:30
¶ After singing 5214 a hymn 5214, they went 1831 out to the Mount 3735 of Olives 1636.
26:31
¶ Then 5119 Jesus 2424 *said 3004 to them, “You will all 3956 fall 4624 away 4624 because 1722 of Me this 3778 night 3571, for it is written 1125, ‘I WILL STRIKE 3960 DOWN 3960 THE SHEPHERD 4166, AND THE SHEEP 4263b OF THE FLOCK 4167 SHALL BE SCATTERED 1287.’
26:32
“But after 3326 I have been raised 1453, I will go 4254 ahead 4254 of you to Galilee 1056.”
26:33
But Peter 4074 said 3004 to Him, “[Even] though 1487 all 3956 may fall 4624 away 4624 because 1722 of You, I will never 3763 fall 4624 away 4624.”
26:34
Jesus 2424 said 5346 to him, “Truly 281 I say 3004 to you that this 3778 [very] night 3571, before 4250 a rooster 220 crows 5455, you will deny 533 Me three 5151 times 5151.”
26:35
Peter 4074 *said 3004 to Him, “Even 2579 if 2579 I have 1163 to die 599 with You, I will not deny 533 You.” All 3956 the disciples 3101 said 3004 the same 3668 thing 3668 too 2532.
26:36
¶ Then 5119 Jesus 2424 *came 2064 with them to a place 5564 called 3004 Gethsemane 1068, and *said 3004 to His disciples 3101, “Sit 2523 here 847 while 2193 I go 565 over 565 there 1563 and pray 4336.”
26:37
And He took 3880 with Him Peter 4074 and the two 1417 sons 5207 of Zebedee 2199, and began 757 to be grieved 3076 and distressed 85.
26:38
Then 5119 He *said 3004 to them, “My soul 5590 is deeply 4036 grieved 4036, to the point 2193 of death 2288; remain 3306 here 5602 and keep 1127 watch 1127 with Me.”
26:39
¶ And He went 4281 a little 3398 beyond 4281 [them], and fell 4098 on His face 4383 and prayed 4336, saying 3004, “My Father 3962, if 1487 it is possible 1415, let this 3778 cup 4221 pass 3928 from Me; yet 4133 not as I will 2309, but as You will.”
26:40
And He *came 2064 to the disciples 3101 and *found 2147 them sleeping 2518, and *said 3004 to Peter 4074, “So 3779, you [men] could 2480 not keep 1127 watch 1127 with Me for one 1520 hour 5610?
26:41
“Keep 1127 watching 1127 and praying 4336 that you may not enter 1525 into temptation 3986; the spirit 4151 is willing 4289, but the flesh 4561 is weak 772.”
26:42
¶ He went 565 away 565 again 3825 a second 1208 time 1208 and prayed 4336, saying 3004, “My Father 3962, if 1487 this 3778 cannot 1410 3756 pass 3928 away 3928 unless 1437 3361 I drink 4095 it, Your will 2307 be done 1096.”
26:43
Again 3825 He came 2064 and found 2147 them sleeping 2518, for their eyes 3788 were heavy 916.
26:44
And He left 863 them again 3825, and went 565 away 565 and prayed 4336 a third 5154 time 5154, saying 3004 the same 846 thing 3056 once 3825 more 3825.
26:45
Then 5119 He *came 2064 to the disciples 3101 and *said 3004 to them, “Are you still 3062 sleeping 2518 and resting 373? Behold 2400, the hour 5610 is at hand 1448 and the Son 5207 of Man 444 is being betrayed 3860 into the hands 5495 of sinners 268.

“Get 1453 up, let us be going 71; behold 2400, the one who betrays 3860 Me is at hand 1448!”
26:47
¶ While He was still 2089 speaking 2980, behold 2400, Judas 2455, one 1520 of the twelve 1427, came 2064 up accompanied 3326 846 by a large 4183 crowd 3793 with swords 3162 and clubs 3586, [who came] from the chief 749 priests 749 and elders 4245 of the people 2992.
26:48
Now 1161 he who was betraying 3860 Him gave 1325 them a sign 4592, saying 3004, “Whomever 3739 302 I kiss 5368, He is the one; seize 2902 Him.”
26:49
Immediately 2112 Judas went 4334 to Jesus 2424 and said 3004, “Hail 5463, Rabbi 4461!” and kissed 2705 Him.
26:50
And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, “Friend 2083, [do] what 3739 you have 3918b come 3918b for.” Then 5119 they came 4334 and laid 1911 hands 5495 on Jesus 2424 and seized 2902 Him.
26:51
¶ And behold 2400, one 1520 of those 3588 who 3588 were with Jesus 2424 reached 1614 and drew 645 out his sword 3162, and struck 3960 the slave 1401 of the high 749 priest 749 and cut 851 off 851 his ear 5621b.
26:52
Then 5119 Jesus 2424 *said 3004 to him, “Put 654 your sword 3162 back 654 into its place 5117; for all 3956 those 3588 who take 2983 up the sword 3162 shall perish 622 by the sword 3162.
26:53
“Or 2228 do you think 1380 that I cannot 1410 3756 appeal 3870 to My Father 3962, and He will at once 737 put 3936 at My disposal 3936 more 4183 than twelve 1427 legions 3003 of angels 32a?
26:54
“How 4459 then 3767 will the Scriptures 1124 be fulfilled 4137, [which say] that it must 1163 happen 1096 this 3779 way 3779?”
26:55
¶ At that time 5610 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to the crowds 3793, “Have you come 1831 out with swords 3162 and clubs 3586 to arrest 4815 Me as [you would] against 1909 a robber 3027? Every 2596 day 2250 I used to sit 2516 in the temple 2413 teaching 1321 and you did not seize 2902 Me.
26:56
“But all 3650 this 3778 has taken 1096 place 1096 to fulfill 4137 the Scriptures 1124 of the prophets 4396.” Then 5119 all 3956 the disciples 3101 left 863 Him and fled 5343.
26:57
¶ Those 3588 who had seized 2902 Jesus 2424 led 520 Him away 520 to Caiaphas 2533, the high 749 priest 749, where 3699 the scribes 1122 and the elders 4245 were gathered 4863 together 4863.
26:58
But Peter 4074 was following 190 Him at a distance 3113 as far 2193 as the courtyard 833 of the high 749 priest 749, and entered 1525 in, and sat 2521 down 2521 with the officers 5257 to see 3708 the outcome 5056.
26:59
¶ Now 1161 the chief 749 priests 749 and the whole 3650 Council 4892 kept trying 2212 to obtain 2212 false 5577a testimony 5577a against 2596 Jesus 2424, so 3704 that they might put 2289 Him to death 2289.
26:60
They did not find 2147 [any], even though many 4183 false 5577b witnesses 5577b came 4334 forward 4334. But later 5305 on two 1417 came 4334 forward 4334,
26:61
and said 3004, “This 3778 man 3778 stated 5346, ‘I am 1410 able 1410 to destroy 2647 the temple 3485 of God 2316 and to rebuild 3618 it in three 5140 days 2250.’”
26:62
The high 749 priest 749 stood 450 up and said 3004 to Him, “Do You not answer 611? What 5101 is it that these 3778 men 3778 are testifying 2649 against 2649 You?”
26:63
But Jesus 2424 kept 4623 silent 4623. And the high 749 priest 749 said 3004 to Him, “I adjure 1844 You by the living 2198 God 2316, that You tell 3004 us whether 1487 You are the Christ 5547, the Son 5207 of God 2316.”
26:64
Jesus 2424 *said 3004 to him, “You have said 3004 it [yourself]; nevertheless 4133 I tell 3004 you, hereafter 575 737 you will see 3708 THE SON 5207 OF MAN 444 SITTING 2521 AT THE RIGHT 1188 HAND 1188 OF POWER 1411, and COMING 2064 ON THE CLOUDS 3507 OF HEAVEN 3772.”
26:65
¶ Then 5119 the high 749 priest 749 tore 1284 his robes 2440 and said 3004, “He has blasphemed 987! What 5101 further 2089 need 5532 do we have 2192 of witnesses 3144? Behold 2396, you have now 3568 heard 191 the blasphemy 988;
26:66
what 5101 do you think 1380?” They answered 611, “He deserves 1777 death 2288!”
26:67
¶ Then 5119 they spat 1716 in His face 4383 and beat 2852 Him with their fists 2852; and others 3588 slapped 4474 Him,
26:68
and said 3004, “Prophesy 4395 to us, You Christ 5547; who 5101 is the one who hit 3817 You?”
26:69
¶ Now 1161 Peter 4074 was sitting 2521 outside 1854 in the courtyard 833, and a servant-girl 3814 came 4334 to him and said 3004, “You too 2532 were with Jesus 2424 the Galilean 1057.”
26:70
But he denied 720 [it] before 1715 them all 3956, saying 3004, “I do not know 3609a what 5101 you are talking 3004 about.”
26:71
When he had gone 1831 out to the gateway 4440, another 243 [servant-girl] saw 3708 him and *said 3004 to those 3588 who 3588 were there 1563, “This 3778 man 3778 was with Jesus 2424 of Nazareth 3480.”
26:72
And again 3825 he denied 720 [it] with an oath 3727, “I do not know 3609a the man 444.”
26:73
A little 3398 later 3326 the bystanders 2476 came 4334 up and said 3004 to Peter 4074, “Surely 230 you too 2532 are [one] of them; for even 2532 the way 2981 you talk 2981 gives 4160 you away 1212 4160.”
26:74
Then 5119 he began 757 to curse 2617a and swear 3660, “I do not know 3609a the man 444!” And immediately 2117 a rooster 220 crowed 5455.
26:75
And Peter 4074 remembered 3403 the word 4487 which Jesus 2424 had said 3004, “Before 4250 a rooster 220 crows 5455, you will deny 533 Me three 5151 times 5151.” And he went 1831 out and wept 2799 bitterly 4090.
