Matthew 20

1 Christ, by the similitude of the labourers in the vineyard, sheweth that God is debtor unto no man: 17 foretelleth his passion: 20 by answering the mother of Zebedee's children, teacheth his disciples to be lowly: 30 and giveth two blind men their sight.

 20:1 “For the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is like 3664 a landowner 3617 who 3748 went 1831 out early 260 in the morning 4404 to hire 3409 laborers 2040 for his vineyard 290.

 20:2 “When he had agreed 4856 with the laborers 2040 for a denarius 1220 for the day 2250, he sent 649 them into his vineyard 290.

 20:3 “And he went 1831 out about 4012 the third 5154 hour 5610 and saw 3708 others 243 standing 2476 idle 692 in the market 58 place 58;

 20:4 and to those 1565 he said 3004, ‘You also 2532 go 5217 into the vineyard 290, and whatever 3739 1437 is right 1342 I will give 1325 you.’ And [so] they went 565.

 20:5 “Again 3825 he went 1831 out about 4012 the sixth 1623 and the ninth 1729a hour 5610, and did 4160 the same 5615 thing 5615.

 20:6 “And about 4012 the eleventh 1734 [hour] he went 1831 out and found 2147 others 243 standing 2476 [around]; and he *said 3004 to them, ‘Why 5101 have you been standing 2476 here 5602 idle 692 all 3650 day 2250 long?’

 20:7 “They *said 3004 to him, ‘Because 3754 no 3762 one 3762 hired 3409 us.’ He *said 3004 to them, ‘You go 5217 into the vineyard 290 too 2532.’

 20:8 ¶ “When evening 3798 came 1096, the owner 2962 of the vineyard 290 *said 3004 to his foreman 2012, ‘Call 2564 the laborers 2040 and pay 591 them their wages 3408, beginning 757 with the last 2078 [group] to the first 4413.’

 20:9 “When 2532 those 3588 [hired] about 4012 the eleventh 1734 hour 5610 came 2064, each 303 one 303 received 2983 a denarius 1220.

 20:10 “When those 3588 [hired] first 4413 came 2064, they thought 3543 that they would receive 2983 more 4183; but each 303 of them also 2532 received 2983 a denarius 1220.

 20:11 “When they received 2983 it, they grumbled 1111 at the landowner 3617,

 20:12 saying 3004, ‘These 3778 last 2078 men 2078 have worked 4160 [only] one 1520 hour 5610, and you have made 4160 them equal 2470 to us who 3588 have borne 941 the burden 922 and the scorching 2742 heat 2742 of the day 2250.’

 20:13 “But he answered 611 and said 3004 to one 1520 of them, ‘Friend 2083, I am doing 91 you no 3756 wrong 91; did you not agree 4856 with me for a denarius 1220?

 20:14 ‘Take 142 what 3588 is yours 4674 and go 5217, but I wish 2309 to give 1325 to this 3778 last 2078 man 2078 the same 2532 as to you.

 20:15 ‘Is it not lawful 1832 for me to do 4160 what 3739 I wish 2309 with what 3588 is my own 1699? Or 2228 is your eye 3788 envious 4190 because 3754 I am 1510 generous 18?’

 20:16 “So 3779 the last 2078 shall be first 4413, and the first 4413 last 2078.”

 20:17 ¶ As Jesus 2424 was about 3195 to go 305 up to Jerusalem 2414, He took 3880 the twelve 1427 [disciples] aside by themselves 2398, and on the way 3598 He said 3004 to them,

 20:18 “Behold 2400, we are going 305 up to Jerusalem 2414; and the Son 5207 of Man 444 will be delivered 3860 to the chief 749 priests 749 and scribes 1122, and they will condemn 2632 Him to death 2288,

 20:19 and will hand 3860 Him over to the Gentiles 1484 to mock 1702 and scourge 3146 and crucify 4717 [Him], and on the third 5154 day 2250 He will be raised 1453 up.”

 20:20 ¶ Then 5119 the mother 3384 of the sons 5207 of Zebedee 2199 came 4334 to Jesus with her sons 5207, bowing 4352 down 4352 and making 154 a request 154 of Him.

 20:21 And He said 3004 to her, “What 5101 do you wish 2309?” She *said 3004 to Him, “Command 3004 that in Your kingdom 932 these 3778 two 1417 sons 5207 of mine 1473 may sit 2523 one 1520 on Your right 1188 and one 1520 on Your left 2176.”

 20:22 But Jesus 2424 answered 611, “You do not know 3609a what 5101 you are asking 154. Are you able 1410 to drink 4095 the cup 4221 that I am 3195 about 3195 to drink 4095?” They *said 3004 to Him, “We are able 1410.”

 20:23 He *said 3004 to them, “My cup 4221 you shall drink 4095; but to sit 2523 on My right 1188 and on [My] left 2176, this 3778 is not Mine 1699 to give 1325, but it is for those for whom 3739 it has been prepared 2090 by My Father 3962.”

 20:24 ¶ And hearing 191 [this], the ten 1176 became indignant 23 with the two 1417 brothers 80.

 20:25 But Jesus 2424 called 4341 them to Himself and said 3004, “You know 3609a that the rulers 758 of the Gentiles 1484 lord 2634b it over 2634b them, and [their] great 3173 men 3173 exercise 2715 authority 2715 over 2715 them.

 20:26 “It is not this 3779 way 3779 among 1722 you, but whoever 3739 1437 wishes 2309 to become 1096 great 3173 among 1722 you shall be your servant 1249,

 20:27 and whoever 3739 1437 wishes 2309 to be first 4413 among 1722 you shall be your slave 1401;

 20:28 just 5618 as the Son 5207 of Man 444 did not come 2064 to be served 1247, but to serve 1247, and to give 1325 His life 5590 a ransom 3083 for many 4183.”

 20:29 ¶ As they were leaving 1607 Jericho 2410a, a large 4183 crowd 3793 followed 190 Him.

 20:30 And two 1417 blind 5185 men 5185 sitting 2521 by the road 3598, hearing 191 that Jesus 2424 was passing 3855 by, cried 2896 out, “Lord 2962, have 1653 mercy 1653 on us, Son 5207 of David 1160b!”

 20:31 The crowd 3793 sternly 2008 told 2008 them to be quiet 4623, but they cried 2896 out all 3173 the more 3173, “Lord 2962, Son 5207 of David 1160b, have 1653 mercy 1653 on us!”

 20:32 And Jesus 2424 stopped 2476 and called 5455 them, and said 3004, “What 5101 do you want 2309 Me to do 4160 for you?”

 20:33 They *said 3004 to Him, “Lord 2962, [we want] our eyes 3788 to be opened 455.”

 20:34 Moved 4697 with compassion 4697, Jesus 2424 touched 681 their eyes 3659; and immediately 2112 they regained 308 their sight 308 and followed 190 Him.
