Luke 8

3 Women minister unto Christ of their substance. 4 Christ, after he had preached from place to place, attended with his Apostles, propoundeth the parable of the sower, 16 and of the candle: 21 declareth who are his mother, and brethren: 22 rebuketh the winds: 26 casteth the legion of devils out of the man into the herd of swine: 37 is rejected of the Gadarenes: 43 healeth the woman of her bloody issue, 49 and raiseth from death Jairus' daughter.

 8:1 Soon afterwards 1722 2517, He [began] going 1353 around 1353 from one city 4172 and village 2968 to another 2596, proclaiming 2784 and preaching 2097 the kingdom 932 of God 2316. The twelve 1427 were with Him,

 8:2 and [also] some 5100 women 1135 who 3739 had been 1510 healed 2323 of evil 4190 spirits 4151 and sicknesses 769: Mary 3137 who was called 2564 Magdalene 3094, from whom 3739 seven 2033 demons 1140 had gone 1831 out,

 8:3 and Joanna 2489b the wife 1135 of Chuza 5529a, Herod’s 2264 steward 2012, and Susanna 4677, and many 4183 others 2087 who 3748 were contributing 1247 to their support 1247 out of their private 5225 means 5225.

 8:4 ¶ When a large 4183 crowd 3793 was coming 4896 together 4896, and those 3588 from the various 2596 cities 4172 were journeying 1975 to Him, He spoke 3004 by way 1223 of a parable 3850b:

 8:5 “The sower 4687 went 1831 out to sow 4687 his seed 4703; and as he sowed 4687, some 3739 3303a fell 4098 beside 3844 the road 3598, and it was trampled 2662 under 2662 foot 2662 and the birds 4071 of the air 3772 ate 2719 it up.

 8:6 “Other 2087 [seed] fell 2667 on rocky 4073 [soil], and as soon as it grew 5453 up, it withered 3583 away 3583, because 1223 it had 2192 no 3361 moisture 2429.

 8:7 “Other 2087 [seed] fell 4098 among 1722 3319 the thorns 173; and the thorns 173 grew 4855 up with it and choked 638 it out.

 8:8 “Other 2087 [seed] fell 4098 into the good 18 soil 1093, and grew 5453 up, and produced 4160 a crop 2590 a hundred 1542 times 1542 as great 1542.” As He said 3004 these 3778 things 3778, He would call 5455 out, “He who has 2192 ears 3775 to hear 191, let him hear 191.”

 8:9 ¶ His disciples 3101 [began] questioning 1905 Him as to what 5101 this 3778 parable 3850b meant 1510.

 8:10 And He said 3004, “To you it has been granted 1325 to know 1097 the mysteries 3466 of the kingdom 932 of God 2316, but to the rest 3062 [it is] in parables 3850b, so 2443 that SEEING 991 THEY MAY NOT SEE 991, AND HEARING 191 THEY MAY NOT UNDERSTAND 4920.

 8:11 ¶ “Now 1161 the parable 3850b is this 3778: the seed 4703 is the word 3056 of God 2316.

 8:12 “Those 3588 beside 3844 the road 3598 are those 3588 who have heard 191; then 1534 the devil 1228 comes 2064 and takes 142 away 142 the word 3056 from their heart 2588, so 2443 that they will not believe 4100 and be saved 4982.

 8:13 “Those on the rocky 4073 [soil are] those who 3739, when 3752 they hear 191, receive 1209 the word 3056 with joy 5479; and these 3778 have 2192 no 3756 [firm] root 4491; they believe 4100 for a while 2540, and in time 2540 of temptation 3986 fall 868 away 868.

 8:14 “The [seed] which fell 4098 among 1519 the thorns 173, these 3778 are the ones who have heard 191, and as they go 4198 on their way 4198 they are choked 4846 with worries 3308 and riches 4149 and pleasures 2237 of [this] life 979, and bring 5052 no 3756 fruit 5052 to maturity 5052.

 8:15 “But the [seed] in the good 2570 soil 1093, these 3778 are the ones who 3748 have heard 191 the word 3056 in an honest 2570 and good 18 heart 2588, and hold 2722 it fast 2722, and bear 2592 fruit 2592 with perseverance 5281.

 8:16 ¶ “Now 1161 no 3762 one 3762 after lighting 681 a lamp 3088 covers 2572 it over with a container 4632, or 2228 puts 5087 it under 5270 a bed 2825b; but he puts 5087 it on a lampstand 3087, so 2443 that those 3588 who come 1531 in may see 991 the light 5457.

 8:17 “For nothing 3756 is hidden 2927 that will not become 1096 evident 5318, nor 3761 [anything] secret 614 that will not be known 1097 and come 2064 to light 5318.

 8:18 “So 3767 take 991 care 991 how 4459 you listen 191; for whoever 3739 302 has 2192, to him [more] shall be given 1325; and whoever 3739 302 does not have 2192, even 2532 what 3739 he thinks 1380 he has 2192 shall be taken 142 away 142 from him.”

 8:19 ¶ And His mother 3384 and brothers 80 came 3854 to Him, and they were unable 3756 1410 to get 4940 to Him because 1223 of the crowd 3793.

 8:20 And it was reported 518 to Him, “Your mother 3384 and Your brothers 80 are standing 2476 outside 1854, wishing 2309 to see 3708 You.”

 8:21 But He answered 611 and said 3004 to them, “My mother 3384 and My brothers 80 are these 3778 who hear 191 the word 3056 of God 2316 and do 4160 it.”

 8:22 ¶ Now 1161 on one 1520 of [those] days 2250 Jesus and His disciples 3101 got 1684 into a boat 4143, and He said 3004 to them, “Let us go 1330 over 1330 to the other 4008 side 4008 of the lake 3041.” So 2532 they launched 321 out.

 8:23 But as they were sailing 4126 along He fell 879a asleep 879a; and a fierce 2978 gale 2978 of wind 417 descended 2597 on the lake 3041, and they [began] to be swamped 4845 and to be in danger 2793.

 8:24 They came 4334 to Jesus and woke 1326 Him up, saying 3004, “Master 1988b, Master 1988b, we are perishing 622!” And He got 1326 up and rebuked 2008 the wind 417 and the surging 2830 waves 2830, and they stopped 3973, and it became 1096 calm 1055.

 8:25 And He said 3004 to them, “Where 4226 is your faith 4102?” They were fearful 5399 and amazed 2296, saying 3004 to one 240 another 240, “Who 5101 then 686 is this 3778, that He commands 2004 even 2532 the winds 417 and the water 5204, and they obey 5219 Him?”

 8:26 ¶ Then 2532 they sailed 2668 to the country 5561 of the Gerasenes 1086, which 3748 is opposite 495 Galilee 1056.

 8:27 And when He came 1831 out onto 1909 the land 1093, He was met 5221 by a man 435 from the city 4172 who was possessed 2192 with demons 1140; and who had not put 1746a on any clothing 2440 for a long 2425 time 5550, and was not living 3306 in a house 3614, but in the tombs 3418.

 8:28 Seeing 3708 Jesus 2424, he cried 349 out and fell 4363 before 4363 Him, and said 3004 in a loud 3173 voice 5456, “What 5101 business do we have with each other, Jesus 2424, Son 5207 of the Most 5310 High 5310 God 2316? I beg 1189a You, do not torment 928 me.”

 8:29 For He had commanded 3853 the unclean 169 spirit 4151 to come 1831 out of the man 444. For it had seized 4884 him many 4183 times 5550; and he was bound 1195 with chains 254 and shackles 3976 and kept 5442 under 5442 guard 5442, and [yet] he would break 1284 his bonds 1199 and be driven 1643 by the demon 1140 into the desert 2048.

 8:30 And Jesus 2424 asked 1905 him, “What 5101 is your name 3686?” And he said 3004, “Legion 3003”; for many 4183 demons 1140 had entered 1525 him.

 8:31 They were imploring 3870 Him not to command 2004 them to go 565 away 565 into the abyss 12.

 8:32 ¶ Now 1161 there was a herd 34 of many 2425 swine 5519 feeding 1006 there 1563 on the mountain 3735; and [the demons] implored 3870 Him to permit 2010 them to enter 1525 the swine. And He gave 2010 them permission 2010.

 8:33 And the demons 1140 came 1831 out of the man 444 and entered 1525 the swine 5519; and the herd 34 rushed 3729 down 2596 the steep 2911 bank 2911 into the lake 3041 and was drowned 638.

 8:34 ¶ When the herdsmen 1006 saw 3708 what had happened 1096, they ran 5343 away 5343 and reported 518 it in the city 4172 and [out] in the country 68.

 8:35 [The people] went 1831 out to see 3708 what had happened 1096; and they came 2064 to Jesus 2424, and found 2147 the man 444 from whom 3739 the demons 1140 had gone 1831 out, sitting 2521 down 2521 at the feet 4228 of Jesus 2424, clothed 2439 and in his right 4993 mind 4993; and they became frightened 5399.

 8:36 Those 3588 who had seen 3708 it reported 518 to them how 4459 the man who was demon-possessed 1139 had been made 4982 well 4982.

 8:37 And all 537a the people 4128 of the country 4066 of the Gerasenes 1086 and the surrounding 4066 district 4066 asked 2065 Him to leave 565 them, for they were gripped 4912 with great 3173 fear 5401; and He got 1684 into a boat 4143 and returned 5290.

 8:38 But the man 435 from whom 3739 the demons 1140 had gone 1831 out was begging 1189a Him that he might accompany 1510 4862 Him; but He sent 630 him away 630, saying 3004,

 8:39 “Return 5290 to your house 3624 and describe 1334 what 3745 great 3745 things 3745 God 2316 has done 4160 for you.” So 2532 he went 565 away 565, proclaiming 2784 throughout 2596 the whole 3650 city 4172 what 3745 great 3745 things 3745 Jesus 2424 had done 4160 for him.

 8:40 ¶ And as Jesus 2424 returned 5290, the people 3793 welcomed 588 Him, for they had all 3956 been 1510 waiting 4328 for Him.

 8:41 And there came 2064 a man 435 named 3686 Jairus 2383, and he was an official 758 of the synagogue 4864; and he fell 4098 at Jesus’ 2424 feet 4228, and [began] to implore 3870 Him to come 1525 to his house 3624;

 8:42 for he had 1510 an only 3439 daughter 2364, about 5613 twelve 1427 years 2094 old, and she was dying 599. But as He went 5217, the crowds 3793 were pressing 4846 against 4846 Him.

 8:43 ¶ And a woman 1135 who had 1722 a hemorrhage 4511 129 for twelve 1427 years 2094, and could 2480 not be healed 2323 by anyone 3762,

 8:44 came 4334 up behind 3693 Him and touched 681 the fringe 2899 of His cloak 2440, and immediately 3916 her hemorrhage 4511 129 stopped 2476.

 8:45 And Jesus 2424 said 3004, “Who 5101 is the one who touched 681 Me?” And while they were all 3956 denying 720 it, Peter 4074 said 3004, “Master 1988b, the people 3793 are crowding 4912 and pressing 598 in on You.”

 8:46 But Jesus 2424 said 3004, “Someone 5100 did touch 681 Me, for I was aware 1097 that power 1411 had gone 1831 out of Me.”

 8:47 When the woman 1135 saw 3708 that she had not escaped 2990 notice 2990, she came 2064 trembling 5141 and fell 4363 down 4363 before 4363 Him, and declared 518 in the presence 1799 of all 3956 the people 2992 the reason 156 why 1223 3739 she had touched 681 Him, and how 5613 she had been immediately 3916 healed 2390.

 8:48 And He said 3004 to her, “Daughter 2364, your faith 4102 has made 4982 you well 4982; go 4198 in peace 1515.”

 8:49 ¶ While He was still 2089 speaking 2980, someone 5100 *came 2064 from [the house of] the synagogue 752 official 752, saying 3004, “Your daughter 2364 has died 2348; do not trouble 4660 the Teacher 1320 anymore 3371.”

 8:50 But when Jesus 2424 heard 191 [this], He answered 611 him, “Do not be afraid 5399 [any longer]; only 3440 believe 4100, and she will be made 4982 well 4982.”

 8:51 When He came 2064 to the house 3614, He did not allow 863 anyone 5100 to enter 1525 with Him, except 1508 Peter 4074 and John 2491 and James 2385, and the girl’s 3816 father 3962 and mother 3384.

 8:52 Now 1161 they were all 3956 weeping 2799 and lamenting 2875 for her; but He said 3004, “Stop 3361 weeping 2799, for she has not died 599, but is asleep 2518.”

 8:53 And they [began] laughing 2606 at Him, knowing 3609a that she had died 599.

 8:54 He, however 1161, took 2902 her by the hand 5495 and called 5455, saying 3004, “Child 3816, arise 1453!”

 8:55 And her spirit 4151 returned 1994, and she got 450 up immediately 3916; and He gave 1299 orders 1299 for [something] to be given 1325 her to eat 2068.

 8:56 Her parents 1118 were amazed 1839; but He instructed 3853 them to tell 3004 no 3367 one 3367 what had happened 1096.
