Luke 12

1 Christ preacheth to his disciples to avoid hypocrisy, and fearfulness in publishing his doctrine: 13 warneth the people to beware of covetousness, by the parable of the rich man who set up greater barns. 22 We must not be over careful of earthly things, 31 but seek the Kingdom of God, 33 give alms, 36 be ready at a knock to open to our Lord whensoever he cometh. 41 Christ's ministers are to see to their charge, 49 and look for persecution. 54 The people must take this time of grace, 58 because it is a fearful thing to die without reconciliation.

 12:1 Under 1722 these 3739 circumstances 1722, after so many 3461 thousands 3461 of people 3793 had gathered 1996 together 1996 that they were stepping 2662 on one 240 another 240, He began 757 saying 3004 to His disciples 3101 first 4413 [of all], “Beware 4337 of the leaven 2219 of the Pharisees 5330, which 3748 is hypocrisy 5272.

 12:4 ¶ “I say 3004 to you, My friends 5384, do not be afraid 5399 of those 3588 who kill 615 the body 4983 and after 3326 that have 2192 no 3361 5100 more 4057 that they can do 4160.

 12:9 but he who denies 720 Me before 1715 men 444 will be denied 533 before 1715 the angels 32a of God 2316.

 12:10 “And everyone 3956 who 3739 speaks 3004 a word 3056 against 1519 the Son 5207 of Man 444, it will be forgiven 863 him; but he who blasphemes 987 against 1519 the Holy 40 Spirit 4151, it will not be forgiven 863 him.

 12:11 “When 3752 they bring 1533 you before 1909 the synagogues 4864 and the rulers 746 and the authorities 1849, do not worry 3309 about how 4459 or 2228 what 5101 you are to speak 626 in your defense 626, or 2228 what 5101 you are to say 3004;

 12:12 for the Holy 40 Spirit 4151 will teach 1321 you in that very 846 hour 5610 what 3739 you ought 1163 to say 3004.”

 12:13 ¶ Someone 5100 in the crowd 3793 said 3004 to Him, “Teacher 1320, tell 3004 my brother 80 to divide 3307 the [family] inheritance 2817 with me.”

 12:14 But He said 3004 to him, “Man 444, who 5101 appointed 2525 Me a judge 2923 or 2228 arbitrator 3312 over 1909 you?”

 12:16 And He told 3004 them a parable 3850b, saying 3004, “The land 5561 of a rich 4145 man 444 was very 2164 productive 2164.

 12:17 “And he began reasoning 1260 to himself 1438, saying 3004, ‘What 5101 shall I do 4160, since 3754 I have 2192 no 3756 place 4226 to store 4863 my crops 2590?’

 12:18 “Then 2532 he said 3004, ‘This 3778 is what I will do 4160: I will tear 2507 down 2507 my barns 596 and build 3618 larger 3173 ones 3173, and there 1563 I will store 4863 all 3956 my grain 4621 and my goods 18.

 12:19 ‘And I will say 3004 to my soul 5590, “Soul 5590, you have 2192 many 4183 goods 18 laid 2749 up for many 4183 years 2094 [to come]; take 373 your ease 373, eat 2068, drink 4095 [and] be merry 2165.”’

 12:20 “But God 2316 said 3004 to him, ‘You fool 878! This 3778 [very] night 3571 your soul 5590 is required 523 of you; and [now] who 5101 will own what 3739 you have prepared 2090?’

 12:21 “So 3779 is the man who stores 2343 up treasure 2343 for himself 848, and is not rich 4147 toward 1519 God 2316.”

 12:22 ¶ And He said 3004 to His disciples 3101, “For this 3778 reason 1223 I say 3004 to you, do not worry 3309 about 3588 [your] life 5590, [as to] what 5101 you will eat 2068; nor 3366 for your body 4983, [as to] what 5101 you will put 1746a on.

 12:23 “For life 5590 is more 4183 than food 5160, and the body 4983 more 4183 than clothing 1742.

 12:24 “Consider 2657 the ravens 2876, for they neither 3777 sow 4687 nor 3777 reap 2325; they have no 3756 storeroom 5009 nor 3761 barn 596, and [yet] God 2316 feeds 5142 them; how 4214 much 4214 more 3123 valuable 1308 you are than the birds 4071!

 12:25 “And which 5101 of you by worrying 3309 can 1410 add 4369 a [single] hour 4083 to his life’s 2244 span 2244?

 12:26 “If 1487 then 3767 you cannot 1410 3761 do even 3761 a very 1646 little 1646 thing 1646, why 5101 do you worry 3309 about 4012 other 3062 matters 3062?

 12:27 “Consider 2657 the lilies 2918, how 4459 they grow 837: they neither 3777 toil 2872 nor 3777 spin 3514; but I tell 3004 you, not even 3761 Solomon 4672 in all 3956 his glory 1391 clothed 4016 himself like 5613 one 1520 of these 3778.

 12:28 “But if 1487 God 2316 so 3779 clothes 292b the grass 5528 in the field 68, which is [alive] today 4594 and tomorrow 839 is thrown 906 into the furnace 2823, how 4214 much 4214 more 3123 [will He clothe] you? You men 3640b of little 3640b faith 3640b!

 12:29 “And do not seek 2212 what 5101 you will eat 2068 and what 5101 you will drink 4095, and do not keep worrying 3349.

 12:30 “For all 3956 these 3778 things 3778 the nations 1484 of the world 2889 eagerly 1934 seek 1934; but your Father 3962 knows 3609a that you need 5535 these 3778 things 3778.

 12:31 “But seek 2212 His kingdom 932, and these 3778 things 3778 will be added 4369 to you.

 12:32 “Do not be afraid 5399, little 3398 flock 4168, for your Father 3962 has chosen 2106 gladly 2106 to give 1325 you the kingdom 932.

 12:33 ¶ “Sell 4453 your possessions 5225 and give 1325 to charity 1654; make 4160 yourselves 1438 money 905 belts 905 which do not wear 3822 out, an unfailing 413 treasure 2344 in heaven 3772, where 3699 no 3756 thief 2812 comes 1448 near 1448 nor 3761 moth 4597 destroys 1311.

 12:34 “For where 3699 your treasure 2344 is, there 1563 your heart 2588 will be also 2532.

 12:35 ¶ “Be dressed 4024 in readiness 4024, and [keep] your lamps 3088 lit 2545.

 12:36 “Be like 3664 men 444 who are waiting 4327 for their master 2962 when 4219 he returns 360 from the wedding 1062 feast 1062, so 2443 that they may immediately 2112 open 455 [the door] to him when he comes 2064 and knocks 2925.

 12:37 “Blessed 3107 are those 1565 slaves 1401 whom 3739 the master 2962 will find 2147 on the alert 1127 when he comes 2064; truly 281 I say 3004 to you, that he will gird 4024 himself [to serve], and have them recline 347 [at the table], and will come 3928 up and wait 1247 on them.

 12:38 “Whether 2579 he comes 2064 in the second 1208 watch 5438, or 2579 even 2579 in the third 5154, and finds 2147 [them] so 3779, blessed 3107 are those 1565 [slaves].

 12:39 ¶ “But be sure 1097 of this 3778, that if 1487 the head 3617 of the house 3617 had known 3609a at what 4169 hour 5610 the thief 2812 was coming 2064, he would not have allowed 863 his house 3624 to be broken 1358 into.

 12:40 “You too 2532, be ready 2092; for the Son 5207 of Man 444 is coming 2064 at an hour 5610 that you do not expect 1380.”

 12:41 ¶ Peter 4074 said 3004, “Lord 2962, are You addressing 3004 this 3778 parable 3850b to us, or 2228 to everyone 3956 [else] as well 2532?”

 12:42 And the Lord 2962 said 3004, “Who 5101 then 686 is the faithful 4103 and sensible 5429 steward 3623, whom 3739 his master 2962 will put 2525 in charge 2525 of his servants 2322, to give 1325 them their rations 4620 at the proper 2540 time 2540?

 12:43 “Blessed 3107 is that slave 1401 whom 3739 his master 2962 finds 2147 so 3779 doing 4160 when he comes 2064.

 12:44 “Truly 230 I say 3004 to you that he will put 2525 him in charge 2525 of all 3956 his possessions 5225.

 12:45 “But if 1437 that slave 1401 says 3004 in his heart 2588, ‘My master 2962 will be a long 5549 time 5549 in coming 2064,’ and begins 757 to beat 5180 the slaves 3814 3816, [both] men 3816 and women 3814, and to eat 2068 and drink 4095 and get 3182 drunk 3182;

 12:46 the master 2962 of that slave 1401 will come 2240 on a day 2250 when 3739 he does not expect 4328 [him] and at an hour 5610 he does not know 1097, and will cut 1371 him in pieces 1371, and assign 5087 him a place 3313 with the unbelievers 571.

 12:47 “And that slave 1401 who knew 1097 his master’s 2962 will 2307 and did not get 2090 ready 2090 or 2228 act 4160 in accord 4314 with his will 2307, will 2307 receive 1194 many 4183 lashes 1194,

 12:48 but the one who did not know 1097 [it], and committed 4160 deeds worthy 514 of a flogging 4127, will receive 1194 but few 3641. From everyone 3956 who 3739 has been given 1325 much 4183, much 4183 will be required 523; and to whom 3739 they entrusted 3908 much 4183, of him they will ask 154 all 4057 the more 4057.

 12:49 ¶ “I have come 2064 to cast 906 fire 4442 upon the earth 1093; and how 5101 I wish 2309 it were already 2235 kindled 381!

 12:50 “But I have 2192 a baptism 908 to undergo 907, and how 4459 distressed 4912 I am until 2193 it is accomplished 5055!

 12:51 “Do you suppose 1380 that I came 3854 to grant 1325 peace 1515 on earth 1093? I tell 3004 you, no 3780, but rather 2228 division 1267;

 12:52 for from now 3568 on five 4002 [members] in one 1520 household 3624 will be divided 1266, three 5140 against 1909 two 1417 and two 1417 against 1909 three 5140.

 12:53 “They will be divided 1266, father 3962 against 1909 son 5207 and son 5207 against 1909 father 3962, mother 3384 against 1909 daughter 2364 and daughter 2364 against 1909 mother 3384, mother-in-law 3994 against 1909 daughter-in-law 3565 and daughter-in-law 3565 against 1909 mother-in-law 3994.”

 12:54 ¶ And He was also 2532 saying 3004 to the crowds 3793, “When 3752 you see 3708 a cloud 3507 rising 393 in the west 1424, immediately 2112 you say 3004, ‘A shower 3655a is coming 2064,’ and so 3779 it turns 1096 out.

 12:55 “And when 3752 [you see] a south 3558 wind 3558 blowing 4154, you say 3004, ‘It will be a hot 2742 day,’ and it turns 1096 out [that way].

 12:56 “You hypocrites 5273! You know 3609a how 3609a to analyze 1381a the appearance 4383 of the earth 1093 and the sky 3772, but why 4459 do you not analyze 1381a this 3778 present time 2540?

 12:57 ¶ “And why 5101 do you not even 2532 on your own 1438 initiative 575 judge 2919 what 1342 is right 1342?

 12:58 “For while 5613 you are going 5217 with your opponent 476 to appear before 1909 the magistrate 758, on [your] way 3598 [there] make 1325 an effort 2039 to settle 525 with him, so 3379 that he may not drag 2694 you before 4314 the judge 2923, and the judge 2923 turn 3860 you over 3860 to the officer 4233, and the officer 4233 throw 906 you into prison 5438.

 12:59 “I say 3004 to you, you will not get 1831 out of there 1564 until 2193 you have paid 591 the very 2532 last 2078 cent 3016.”
