Luke 4

1 The temptation and fasting of Christ. 13 He overcometh the devil: 15 beginneth to preach. 16 The people of Nazareth admire his gracious words. 33 He cureth one possessed of a devil, 38 Peter's mother in law, 40 and divers other sick persons. 41 The devils acknowledge Christ, and are reproved for it. 43 He preacheth through the cities.

4:1 Jesus 2424, full 4134 of the Holy 40 Spirit 4151, returned 5290 from the Jordan 2446 and was led 71 around by the Spirit 4151 in the wilderness 2048

4:2 for forty 5065b days 2250, being tempted 3985 by the devil 1228. And He ate 2068 nothing 3756 3762 during 1722 those 1565 days 2250, and when they had ended 4931, He became hungry 3983.

4:3 And the devil 1228 said 3004 to Him, “If 1487 You are the Son 5207 of God 2316, tell 3004 this 3778 stone 3037 to become 1096 bread 740.”

4:4 And Jesus 2424 answered 611 him, “It is written 1125, ‘MAN 444 SHALL NOT LIVE 2198 ON BREAD 740 ALONE 3441.’”

4:5 ¶ And he led 321 Him up and showed 1166 Him all 3956 the kingdoms 932 of the world 3625 in a moment 4743 of time 5550.

4:6 And the devil 1228 said 3004 to Him, “I will give 1325 You all 537a this 3778 domain 1849 and its glory 1391; for it has been handed 3860 over 3860 to me, and I give 1325 it to whomever 3739 1437 I wish 2309.

4:7 “Therefore 3767 if 1437 You worship 4352 before 1799 me, it shall all 3956 be Yours 4674.”

4:8 Jesus 2424 answered 611 him, “It is written 1125, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP 4352 THE LORD 2962 YOUR GOD 2316 AND SERVE 3000 HIM ONLY 3441.’”

4:9 ¶ And he led 71 Him to Jerusalem 2419 and had Him stand 2476 on the pinnacle 4419 of the temple 2413, and said 3004 to Him, “If 1487 You are the Son 5207 of God 2316, throw 906 Yourself 4572 down 2736 from here 1782;

4:10 for it is written 1125, ‘HE WILL COMMAND 1781 HIS ANGELS 32a CONCERNING 4012 YOU TO GUARD 1314 YOU,’

4:11 and, ‘ON [their] HANDS 5495 THEY WILL BEAR 142 YOU UP, SO 3379 THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE 4350 YOUR FOOT 4228 AGAINST 4314 A STONE 3037.’”

4:12 And Jesus 2424 answered 611 and said 3004 to him, “It is said 3004, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT 1598 THE LORD 2962 YOUR GOD 2316 TO THE TEST 1598.’”

4:13 ¶ When the devil 1228 had finished 4931 every 3956 temptation 3986, he left 868 Him until 891 an opportune 2540 time 2540.

4:14 ¶ And Jesus 2424 returned 5290 to Galilee 1056 in the power 1411 of the Spirit 4151, and news 5345 about 4012 Him spread 1831 through 2596 all 3650 the surrounding 4066 district 4066.

4:15 And He [began] teaching 1321 in their synagogues 4864 and was praised 1392 by all 3956.

4:16 ¶ And He came 2064 to Nazareth 3478, where 3757 He had been 1510 brought 5142 up; and as was His custom 1486, He entered 1525 the synagogue 4864 on the Sabbath 4521, and stood 450 up to read 314.

4:17 And the book 975 of the prophet 4396 Isaiah 2268 was handed 1929 to Him. And He opened 455 the book 975 and found 2147 the place 5117 where 3757 it was written 1125,

4:18 “THE SPIRIT 4151 OF THE LORD 2962 IS UPON ME, BECAUSE 3739 1752a HE ANOINTED 5548 ME TO PREACH 2097 THE GOSPEL 2097 TO THE POOR 4434. HE HAS SENT 649 ME TO PROCLAIM 2784 RELEASE 859 TO THE CAPTIVES 164, AND RECOVERY 309 OF SIGHT 309 TO THE BLIND 5185, TO SET 649 FREE 1722 859 THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED 2352,

4:19 TO PROCLAIM 2784 THE FAVORABLE 1184 YEAR 1763 OF THE LORD 2962.”

4:20 And He closed 4428 the book 975, gave 591 it back 591 to the attendant 5257 and sat 2523 down 2523; and the eyes 3788 of all 3956 in the synagogue 4864 were fixed 816 on Him.

4:21 And He began 757 to say 3004 to them, “Today 4594 this 3778 Scripture 1124 has been fulfilled 4137 in your hearing 3775.”

4:22 And all 3956 were speaking 3140 well 3140 of Him, and wondering 2296 at the gracious 5485 words 3056 which were falling 1607 from His lips 4750; and they were saying 3004, “Is this 3778 not Joseph’s 2501 son 5207?”

4:23 And He said 3004 to them, “No 3843 doubt 3843 you will quote 3004 this 3778 proverb 3850b to Me, ‘Physician 2395, heal 2323 yourself 4572! Whatever 3745 we heard 191 was done 1096 at Capernaum 2746b, do 4160 here 5602 in your hometown 3968 as well 2532.’”

4:24 And He said 3004, “Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, no 3762 prophet 4396 is welcome 1184 in his hometown 3968.

4:25 “But I say 3004 to you in truth 225, there were many 4183 widows 5503 in Israel 2474 in the days 2250 of Elijah 2243, when 3753 the sky 3772 was shut 2808 up for three 5140 years 2094 and six 1803 months 3376, when 5613 a great 3173 famine 3042 came 1096 over 1909 all 3956 the land 1093;

4:26 and yet Elijah 2243 was sent 3992 to none 3762 of them, but only 1487 3361 to Zarephath 4558, [in the land] of Sidon 4606, to a woman 1135 who was a widow 5503.

4:27 “And there were many 4183 lepers 3015 in Israel 2474 in the time 1909 of Elisha 1666 the prophet 4396; and none 3762 of them was cleansed 2511, but only 1487 3361 Naaman 3483b the Syrian 4948.”

4:28 And all 3956 [the people] in the synagogue 4864 were filled 4092a with rage 2372 as they heard 191 these 3778 things 3778;

4:29 and they got 450 up and drove 1544b Him out of the city 4172, and led 71 Him to the brow 3790 of the hill 3735 on which 3739 their city 4172 had been built 3618, in order 5620 to throw 2630 Him down 2630 the cliff 2630.

4:30 But passing 1330 through 1223 their midst 3319, He went 4198 His way 4198.

4:31 ¶ And He came 2718 down 2718 to Capernaum 2746b, a city 4172 of Galilee 1056, and He was teaching 1321 them on the Sabbath 4521;

4:32 and they were amazed 1605 at His teaching 1322, for His message 3056 was with authority 1849.

4:33 In the synagogue 4864 there was a man 444 possessed 2192 by the spirit 4151 of an unclean 169 demon 1140, and he cried 349 out with a loud 3173 voice 5456,

4:34 “Let 1436 us alone 1436! What 5101 business do we have with each other, Jesus 2424 of Nazareth 3479? Have You come 2064 to destroy 622 us? I know 3609a who 5101 You are—the Holy 40 One 40 of God 2316!”

4:35 But Jesus 2424 rebuked 2008 him, saying 3004, “Be quiet 5392 and come 1831 out of him!” And when the demon 1140 had thrown 4496 him down 4496 in the midst 3319 [of the people], he came 1831 out of him without 3367 doing 984 him any 3367 harm 984.

4:36 And amazement 2285 came 1096 upon them all 3956, and they [began] talking 4814 with one 240 another 240 saying 3004, “What 5101 is this 3778 message 3056? For with authority 1849 and power 1411 He commands 2004 the unclean 169 spirits 4151 and they come 1831 out.”

4:37 And the report 2279 about 4012 Him was spreading 1607 into every 3956 locality 5117 in the surrounding 4066 district 4066.

4:38 ¶ Then 2532 He got 450 up and [left] the synagogue 4864, and entered 1525 Simon’s 4613 home 3614. Now 1161 Simon’s 4613 mother-in-law 3994 was suffering 4912 from a high 3173 fever 4446, and they asked 2065 Him to help 4012 her.

4:39 And standing 2186 over 1883 her, He rebuked 2008 the fever 4446, and it left 863 her; and she immediately 3916 got 450 up and waited 1247 on them.

4:40 ¶ While the sun 2246 was setting 1416, all 537a those 3745 who 3745 had 2192 any [who were] sick 770 with various 4164 diseases 3554 brought 71 them to Him; and laying 2007 His hands 5495 on each 1538 one 1520 of them, He was healing 2323 them.

4:41 Demons 1140 also 2532 were coming 1831 out of many 4183, shouting 2905, “You are the Son 5207 of God 2316!” But rebuking 2008 them, He would not allow 1439 them to speak 2980, because 3754 they knew 3609a Him to be the Christ 5547.

4:42 ¶ When day 2250 came 1096, Jesus left 1831 and went 4198 to a secluded 2048 place 5117; and the crowds 3793 were searching 1934 for Him, and came 2064 to Him and tried to keep 2722 Him from going 4198 away 4198 from them.

4:43 But He said 3004 to them, “I must 1163 preach 2097 the kingdom 932 of God 2316 to the other 2087 cities 4172 also 2532, for I was sent 649 for this 3778 purpose.”
