Luke 7

1 Christ findeth a greater faith in the centurion, a Gentile, than in any of the Jews: 10 healeth his servant being absent: 11 raiseth from death the widow's son at Nain: 19 answereth John's messengers with the declaration of his miracles: 24 testifieth to the people what opinion he held of John: 30 inveigheth against the Jews, who with neither the manners of John nor of Jesus could be won: 36 and sheweth by occasion of Mary Magdalene, how he is a friend to sinners, not to maintain them in sins, but to forgive them their sins, upon their faith and repentance.

 7:1 When 1894 He had completed 4137 all 3956 His discourse 4487 in the hearing 189 of the people 2992, He went 1525 to Capernaum 2746b.

 7:2 ¶ And a centurion’s 1543 slave 1401, who 3739 was highly 1784 regarded 1784 by him, was sick 2560 and about 3195 to die 5053.

 7:3 When he heard 191 about 4012 Jesus 2424, he sent 649 some Jewish 2453 elders 4245 asking 2065 Him to come 2064 and save 1295 the life 1295 of his slave 1401.

 7:4 When they came 3854 to Jesus 2424, they earnestly 4709 implored 3870 Him, saying 3004, “He is worthy 514 for You to grant 3930 this 3778 to him;

 7:5 for he loves 25 our nation 1484 and it was he who built 3618 us our synagogue 4864.”

 7:6 Now 1161 Jesus 2424 [started] on His way 4198 with them; and when He was not far 3112 from the house 3614, the centurion 1543 sent 3992 friends 5384, saying 3004 to Him, “Lord 2962, do not trouble 4660 Yourself further, for I am 1510 not worthy 2425 for You to come 1525 under 5259 my roof 4721;

 7:7 for this 1352 reason 1352 I did not even 3761 consider 515 myself 1683 worthy 515 to come 2064 to You, but [just] say 3004 the word 3056, and my servant 3816 will be healed 2390.

 7:8 “For I also 2532 am 1510 a man 444 placed under 5259 authority 1849, with soldiers 4757 under 5259 me; and I say 3004 to this 3778 one 3778, ‘Go 4198!’ and he goes 4198, and to another 243, ‘Come 2064!’ and he comes 2064, and to my slave 1401, ‘Do 4160 this 3778!’ and he does 4160 it.”

 7:9 Now 1161 when Jesus 2424 heard 191 this 3778, He marveled 2296 at him, and turned 4762 and said 3004 to the crowd 3793 that was following 190 Him, “I say 3004 to you, not even 3761 in Israel 2474 have I found 2147 such 5118 great 5118 faith 4102.”

 7:10 When those 3588 who had been sent 3992 returned 5290 to the house 3624, they found 2147 the slave 1401 in good 5198 health 5198.

 7:11 ¶ Soon 1836 afterwards 1722 1836 He went 4198 to a city 4172 called 2564 Nain 3484; and His disciples 3101 were going 4848 along 4848 with Him, accompanied 2532 by a large 4183 crowd 3793.

 7:12 Now 1161 as He approached 1448 the gate 4439 of the city 4172, a dead 2348 man was being carried 1580 out, the only 3439 son 5207 of his mother 3384, and she was a widow 5503; and a sizeable 2425 crowd 3793 from the city 4172 was with her.

 7:13 When the Lord 2962 saw 3708 her, He felt 4697 compassion 4697 for her, and said 3004 to her, “Do not weep 2799.”

 7:14 And He came 4334 up and touched 681 the coffin 4673; and the bearers 941 came 2476 to a halt 2476. And He said 3004, “Young 3495 man 3495, I say 3004 to you, arise 1453!”

 7:15 The dead 3498 man 3498 sat 339 up and began 757 to speak 2980. And [Jesus] gave 1325 him back to his mother 3384.

 7:16 Fear 5401 gripped 2983 them all 3956, and they [began] glorifying 1392 God 2316, saying 3004, “A great 3173 prophet 4396 has arisen 1453 among 1722 us!” and, “God 2316 has visited 1980a His people 2992!”

 7:17 This 3778 report 3056 concerning 4012 Him went 1831 out all 3650 over 1722 Judea 2453 and in all 3956 the surrounding 4066 district 4066.

 7:18 ¶ The disciples 3101 of John 2491 reported 518 to him about 4012 all 3956 these 3778 things 3778.

 7:19 Summoning 4341 two 1417 of his disciples 3101, John 2491 sent 3992 them to the Lord 2962, saying 3004, “Are You the Expected 2064 One, or 2228 do we look 4328 for someone 243 else 243?”

 7:20 When the men 435 came 3854 to Him, they said 3004, “John 2491 the Baptist 910 has sent 649 us to You, to ask 3004, ‘Are You the Expected 2064 One, or 2228 do we look 4328 for someone 243 else 243?’”

 7:21 At that very time 5610 He cured 2323 many 4183 [people] of diseases 3554 and afflictions 3148 and evil 4190 spirits 4151; and He gave 5483 sight 991 to many 4183 [who were] blind 5185.

 7:22 And He answered 611 and said 3004 to them, “Go 4198 and report 518 to John 2491 what 3739 you have seen 3708 and heard 191: [the] BLIND 5185 RECEIVE 308 SIGHT 308, [the] lame 5560 walk 4043, [the] lepers 3015 are cleansed 2511, and [the] deaf 2974 hear 191, [the] dead 3498 are raised 1453 up, [the] POOR 4434 HAVE THE GOSPEL 2097 PREACHED 2097 TO THEM.

 7:23 “Blessed 3107 is he who 3739 does not take 4624 offense at Me.”

 7:24 ¶ When the messengers 32a of John 2491 had left 565, He began 757 to speak 3004 to the crowds 3793 about 4012 John 2491, “What 5101 did you go 1831 out into the wilderness 2048 to see 2300? A reed 2563 shaken 4531 by the wind 417?

 7:25 “But what 5101 did you go 1831 out to see 3708? A man 444 dressed 294 in soft 3120 clothing 2440? Those 3588 who are splendidly 1741 clothed 2441 and live 5225 in luxury 5172 are [found] in royal 933 palaces 933!

 7:26 “But what 5101 did you go 1831 out to see 3708? A prophet 4396? Yes 3483a, I say 3004 to you, and one who is more 4053 than a prophet 4396.

 7:27 “This 3778 is the one about 4012 whom 3739 it is written 1125, ‘BEHOLD 2400, I SEND 649 MY MESSENGER 32a AHEAD 4253 OF YOU, WHO 3739 WILL PREPARE 2680 YOUR WAY 3598 BEFORE 1715 YOU.’

 7:28 “I say 3004 to you, among 1722 those born 1084 of women 1135 there is no 3762 one 3762 greater 3173 than John 2491; yet 1161 he who is least 3398 in the kingdom 932 of God 2316 is greater 3173 than he.”

 7:29 When all 3956 the people 2992 and the tax 5057 collectors 5057 heard 191 [this], they acknowledged 1344 God’s 2316 justice 1344, having been baptized 907 with the baptism 908 of John 2491.

 7:30 But the Pharisees 5330 and the lawyers 3544 rejected 114 God’s 2316 purpose 1012 for themselves 1438, not having been baptized 907 by John.

 7:31 ¶ “To what 5101 then 3767 shall I compare 3666 the men 444 of this 3778 generation 1074, and what 5101 are they like 3664?

 7:32 “They are like 3664 children 3813 who sit 2521 in the market 58 place 58 and call 4377 to one 240 another 240, and they say 3004, ‘We played 832 the flute 832 for you, and you did not dance 3738; we sang 2354 a dirge 2354, and you did not weep 2799.’

 7:33 “For John 2491 the Baptist 910 has come 2064 eating 2068 no 3361 bread 740 and drinking 4095 no 3383 wine 3631, and you say 3004, ‘He has 2192 a demon 1140!’

 7:34 “The Son 5207 of Man 444 has come 2064 eating 2068 and drinking 4095, and you say 3004, ‘Behold 2400, a gluttonous 5314 man 444 and a drunkard 3630, a friend 5384 of tax 5057 collectors 5057 and sinners 268!’

 7:35 “Yet 2532 wisdom 4678 is vindicated 1344 by all 3956 her children 5043.”

 7:36 ¶ Now 1161 one 5100 of the Pharisees 5330 was requesting 2065 Him to dine 2068 with him, and He entered 1525 the Pharisee’s 5330 house 3624 and reclined 2625 [at the table].

 7:37 And there was a woman 1135 in the city 4172 who 3748 was a sinner 268; and when she learned 1921 that He was reclining 2621 [at the table] in the Pharisee’s 5330 house 3614, she brought 2865 an alabaster 211 vial 211 of perfume 3464,

 7:38 and standing 2476 behind 3694 [Him] at His feet 4228, weeping 2799, she began 757 to wet 1026 His feet 4228 with her tears 1144, and kept wiping 1591 them with the hair 2359 of her head 2776, and kissing 2705 His feet 4228 and anointing 218b them with the perfume 3464.

 7:39 Now 1161 when the Pharisee 5330 who had invited 2564 Him saw 3708 this, he said 3004 to himself 1438, “If 1487 this 3778 man 3778 were a prophet 4396 He would know 1097 who 5101 and what 4217 sort 4217 of person 4217 this 3588 woman 1135 is who 3748 is touching 681 Him, that she is a sinner 268.”

 7:40 And Jesus 2424 answered 611 him, “Simon 4613, I have 2192 something 5100 to say 3004 to you.” And he replied 5346, “Say 3004 it, Teacher 1320.”

 7:41 “A moneylender 1157 had 1510 two 1417 debtors 5533: one 1520 owed 3784 five 4001 hundred 4001 denarii 1220, and the other 2087 fifty 4004.

 7:42 “When they were unable 3361 2192 to repay 591, he graciously 5483 forgave 5483 them both 297. So 3767 which 5101 of them will love 25 him more 4183?”

 7:43 Simon 4613 answered 611 and said 3004, “I suppose 5274 the one whom 3739 he forgave 5483 more 4183.” And He said 3004 to him, “You have judged 2919 correctly 3723.”

 7:44 Turning 4762 toward 4314 the woman 1135, He said 5346 to Simon 4613, “Do you see 991 this 3778 woman 1135? I entered 1525 your house 3614; you gave 1325 Me no 3756 water 5204 for My feet 4228, but she has wet 1026 My feet 4228 with her tears 1144 and wiped 1591 them with her hair 2359.

 7:45 “You gave 1325 Me no 3756 kiss 5370; but she, since 575 the time I came 1525 in, has not ceased 1257 to kiss 2705 My feet 4228.

 7:46 “You did not anoint 218b My head 2776 with oil 1637, but she anointed 218b My feet 4228 with perfume 3464.

 7:47 “For this 3739 reason 5484 I say 3004 to you, her sins 266, which are many 4183, have been forgiven 863, for she loved 25 much 4183; but he who 3739 is forgiven 863 little 3641, loves 25 little 3641.”

 7:48 Then 2532 He said 3004 to her, “Your sins 266 have been forgiven 863.”

 7:49 Those 3588 who were reclining 4873 [at the table] with Him began 757 to say 3004 to themselves 1438, “Who 5101 is this 3778 [man] who 3739 even 2532 forgives 863 sins 266?”

 7:50 And He said 3004 to the woman 1135, “Your faith 4102 has saved 4982 you; go 4198 in peace 1515.”
