Luke 5

1 Christ teacheth the people out of Peter's ship: 4 in a miraculous taking of fishes, sheweth how he will make him and his partners fishermen of men: 12 cleanseth the leper: 16 prayeth in the wilderness: 18 healeth one sick of the palsy: 27 calleth Matthew the publican: 29 eateth with sinners, as being the physician of souls: 34 foretelleth the fastings and afflictions of the Apostles after his ascension: 36 and likeneth fainhearted and weak disciples to old bottles and worn garments.

 5:1 Now 1161 it happened 1096 that while 1722 the crowd 3793 was pressing 1945 around 1945 Him and listening 191 to the word 3056 of God 2316, He was standing 2476 by the lake 3041 of Gennesaret 1082;

 5:2 and He saw 3708 two 1417 boats 4142 lying 2476 at the edge of the lake 3041; but the fishermen 231 had gotten 576 out of them and were washing 4150 their nets 1350.

 5:3 And He got 1684 into one 1520 of the boats 4143, which 3739 was Simon’s 4613, and asked 2065 him to put 1877 out a little 3641 way 3641 from the land 1093. And He sat 2523 down 2523 and [began] teaching 1321 the people 3793 from the boat 4143.

 5:4 When 5613 He had finished 3973 speaking 2980, He said 3004 to Simon 4613, “Put 1877 out into the deep 899 water 899 and let 5465 down 5465 your nets 1350 for a catch 61.”

 5:5 Simon 4613 answered 611 and said 3004, “Master 1988b, we worked 2872 hard 2872 all 3650 night 3571 and caught 2983 nothing 3762, but I will do as You say 4487 [and] let 5465 down 5465 the nets 1350.”

 5:6 When they had done 4160 this 3778, they enclosed 4788 a great 4183 quantity 4128 of fish 2486, and their nets 1350 [began] to break 1284;

 5:7 so 5620 they signaled 2656 to their partners 3353 in the other 2087 boat 4143 for them to come 2064 and help 4815 them. And they came 2064 and filled 4092a both 297 of the boats 4143, so 5620 that they began to sink 1036.

 5:8 But when Simon 4613 Peter 4074 saw 3708 [that], he fell 4363 down 4363 at Jesus’ 2424 feet 1119, saying 3004, “Go 1831 away 1831 from me Lord 2962, for I am 1510 a sinful 268 man 435!”

 5:9 For amazement 2285 had seized 4023 him and all 3956 his companions 3588 4862 because 1909 of the catch 61 of fish 2486 which 3739 they had taken 4815;

 5:10 and so 3668 also 2532 [were] James 2385 and John 2491, sons 5207 of Zebedee 2199, who 3739 were partners 2844 with Simon 4613. And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to Simon 4613, “Do not fear 5399, from now 3568 on you will be catching 2221 men 444.”

 5:11 When they had brought 2609 their boats 4143 to land 1093, they left 863 everything 3956 and followed 190 Him.

 5:12 ¶ While 1722 He was in one 1520 of the cities 4172, behold 2400, [there was] a man 435 covered 4134 with leprosy 3014; and when he saw 3708 Jesus 2424, he fell 4098 on his face 4383 and implored 1189a Him, saying 3004, “Lord 2962, if 1437 You are willing 2309, You can 1410 make 2511 me clean 2511.”

 5:13 And He stretched 1614 out His hand 5495 and touched 681 him, saying 3004, “I am 2309 willing 2309; be cleansed 2511.” And immediately 2112 the leprosy 3014 left 565 him.

 5:14 And He ordered 3853 him to tell 3004 no 3367 one 3367, “But go 565 and show 1166 yourself 4572 to the priest 2409 and make 4374 an offering 4374 for your cleansing 2512, just 2531a as Moses 3475 commanded 4367, as a testimony 3142 to them.”

 5:15 But the news 3056 about 4012 Him was spreading 1330 even 3123 farther 3123, and large 4183 crowds 3793 were gathering 4905 to hear 191 [Him] and to be healed 2323 of their sicknesses 769.

 5:16 But Jesus Himself 846 would [often] slip 5298 away 5298 to the wilderness 2048 and pray 4336.

 5:17 ¶ One 1520 day 2250 He was teaching 1321; and there were [some] Pharisees 5330 and teachers 3547 of the law 3547 sitting 2521 [there], who 3739 had come 2064 from every 3956 village 2968 of Galilee 1056 and Judea 2453 and [from] Jerusalem 2419; and the power 1411 of the Lord 2962 was [present] for Him to perform 2390 healing 2390.

 5:18 And [some] men 435 [were] carrying 5342 on a bed 2825b a man 444 who 3739 was paralyzed 3886; and they were trying 2212 to bring 1533 him in and to set 5087 him down 5087 in front 1799 of Him.

 5:19 But not finding 2147 any 4169 [way] to bring 1533 him in because 1223 of the crowd 3793, they went 305 up on the roof 1430 and let 2524 him down 2524 through 1223 the tiles 2766 with his stretcher 2826, into the middle 3319 [of the crowd], in front 1715 of Jesus 2424.

 5:20 Seeing 3708 their faith 4102, He said 3004, “Friend 444, your sins 266 are forgiven 863 you.”

 5:21 The scribes 1122 and the Pharisees 5330 began 757 to reason 1260, saying 3004, “Who 5101 is this 3778 [man] who 3739 speaks 2980 blasphemies 988? Who 5101 can 1410 forgive 863 sins 266, but God 2316 alone 3441?”

 5:22 But Jesus 2424, aware 1921 of their reasonings 1261, answered 611 and said 3004 to them, “Why 5101 are you reasoning 1260 in your hearts 2588?

 5:23 “Which 5101 is easier 2123, to say 3004, ‘Your sins 266 have been forgiven 863 you,’ or 2228 to say 3004, ‘Get 1453 up and walk 4043’?

 5:24 “But, so 2443 that you may know 3609a that the Son 5207 of Man 444 has 2192 authority 1849 on earth 1093 to forgive 863 sins 266,”—He said 3004 to the paralytic 3886—“I say 3004 to you, get 1453 up, and pick 142 up your stretcher 2826 and go 4198 home 3624.”

 5:25 Immediately he got 450 up before 1799 them, and picked 142 up what 3739 he had been lying 2621 on, and went 565 home 3624 glorifying 1392 God 2316.

 5:26 They were all 537a struck 2983 with astonishment 1611 and [began] glorifying 1392 God 2316; and they were filled 4092a with fear 5401, saying 3004, “We have seen 3708 remarkable 3861 things 3861 today 4594.”

 5:27 ¶ After 3326 that He went 1831 out and noticed 2300 a tax 5058 collector 5057 named 3686 Levi 3017 sitting 2521 in the tax 5058 booth 5058, and He said 3004 to him, “Follow 190 Me.”

 5:28 And he left 2641 everything 3956 behind 2641, and got 450 up and [began] to follow 190 Him.

 5:29 ¶ And Levi 3017 gave 4160 a big 3173 reception 1403 for Him in his house 3614; and there was a great 4183 crowd 3793 of tax 5057 collectors 5057 and other 243 [people] who 3739 were reclining 2621 [at the table] with them.

 5:30 The Pharisees 5330 and their scribes 1122 [began] grumbling 1111 at His disciples 3101, saying 3004, “Why 1223 5101 do you eat 2068 and drink 4095 with the tax 5057 collectors 5057 and sinners 268?”

 5:31 And Jesus 2424 answered 611 and said 3004 to them, “[It is] not those 3588 who are well 5198 who need 5532 a physician 2395, but those 3588 who are sick 2560.

 5:32 “I have not come 2064 to call 2564 the righteous 1342 but sinners 268 to repentance 3341.”

 5:33 ¶ And they said 3004 to Him, “The disciples 3101 of John 2491 often 4437 fast 3522 and offer 4160 prayers 1162, the [disciples] of the Pharisees 5330 also 2532 do the same 3668, but Yours 4674 eat 2068 and drink 4095.”

 5:34 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, “You cannot 1410 3361 make 4160 the attendants 5207 of the bridegroom 3567 fast 3522 while 1722 3739 the bridegroom 3566 is with them, can you?

 5:35 “But [the] days 2250 will come 2064; and when 3752 the bridegroom 3566 is taken 522 away 522 from them, then 5119 they will fast 3522 in those 1565 days 2250.”

 5:36 And He was also 2532 telling 3004 them a parable 3850b: “No 3762 one 3762 tears 4977 a piece 1915 of cloth 1915 from a new 2537 garment 2440 and puts 1911 it on an old 3820 garment 2440; otherwise 1490b he will both 2532 tear 4977 the new 2537, and the piece 1915 from the new 2537 will not match 4856 the old 3820.

 5:37 “And no 3762 one 3762 puts 906 new 3501b wine 3631 into old 3820 wineskins 779; otherwise 1490b the new 3501b wine 3631 will burst 4486 the skins 779 and it will be spilled 1632b out, and the skins 779 will be ruined 622.

 5:38 “But new 3501b wine 3631 must 992 be put 992 into fresh 2537 wineskins 779.

 5:39 “And no 3762 one 3762, after drinking 4095 old 3820 [wine] wishes 2309 for new 3501b; for he says 3004, ‘The old 3820 is good 5543 [enough].’”
