Luke 6

1 Christ reproveth the Pharisees' blindness about the observation of the Sabbath, by Scripture, reason, and miracle: 13 chooseth twelve Apostles: 17 healeth the diseased: 20 preacheth to his disciples before the people of blessings and curses: 27 how we must love our enemies: 46 and join the obedience of good works to the hearing of the Word: lest in the evil day of temptation we fall like an house built upon the face of the earth, without any foudation.

 6:1 Now 1161 it happened 1096 that He was passing 1279 through 1223 [some] grainfields 4702 on a Sabbath 4521; and His disciples 3101 were picking 5089 the heads 4719 of grain 4719, rubbing 5597 them in their hands 5495, and eating 2068 [the grain].

 6:2 But some 5100 of the Pharisees 5330 said 3004, “Why 5101 do you do 4160 what 3739 is not lawful 1832 on the Sabbath 4521?”

 6:3 And Jesus 2424 answering 611 them said 3004, “Have you not even 3761 read 314 what 3739 David 1160b did 4160 when 3698 he was hungry 3983, he and those 3588 who were with him,

 6:4 how 5613 he entered 1525 the house 3624 of God 2316, and took 2983 and ate 2068 the consecrated 4286 bread 740 which 3739 is not lawful 1832 for any to eat 2068 except 1508 the priests 2409 alone 3441, and gave 1325 it to his companions 3588 3326?”

 6:5 And He was saying 3004 to them, “The Son 5207 of Man 444 is Lord 2962 of the Sabbath 4521.”

 6:6 ¶ On another 2087 Sabbath 4521 He entered 1525 the synagogue 4864 and was teaching 1321; and there was a man 444 there 1563 whose 2532 846 right 1188 hand 5495 was withered 3584.

 6:7 The scribes 1122 and the Pharisees 5330 were watching 3906 Him closely 3906 [to see] if 1487 He healed 2323 on the Sabbath 4521, so 2443 that they might find 2147 [reason] to accuse 2723 Him.

 6:8 But He knew 3609a what 1261 they were thinking 1261, and He said 3004 to the man 435 with the withered 3584 hand 5495, “Get 1453 up and come 2476 forward 1519 3319!” And he got 450 up and came 2476 forward.

 6:9 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, “I ask 1905 you, is it lawful 1832 to do 15 good 15 or 2228 to do 2554 harm 2554 on the Sabbath 4521, to save 4982 a life 5590 or 2228 to destroy 622 it?”

 6:10 After looking 4017 around 4017 at them all 3956, He said 3004 to him, “Stretch 1614 out your hand 5495!” And he did 4160 [so]; and his hand 5495 was restored 600.

 6:11 But they themselves 846 were filled 4092a with rage 454, and discussed 1255 together 4314 240 what 5101 302 they might do 4160 to Jesus 2424.

 6:12 ¶ It was at this 3778 time 2250 that He went 1831 off 1831 to the mountain 3735 to pray 4336, and He spent 1273 the whole 1273 night 1273 in prayer 4335 to God 2316.

 6:13 And when 3753 day 2250 came 1096, He called 4377 His disciples 3101 to Him and chose 1586 twelve 1427 of them, whom 3739 He also 2532 named 3687 as apostles 652:

 6:14 Simon 4613, whom 3739 He also 2532 named 3687 Peter 4074, and Andrew 406 his brother 80; and James 2385 and John 2491; and Philip 5376 and Bartholomew 918;

 6:15 and Matthew 3102b and Thomas 2381; James 2385 [the son] of Alphaeus 256b, and Simon 4613 who was called 2564 the Zealot 2208;

 6:16 Judas 2455 [the son] of James 2385, and Judas 2455 Iscariot 2469, who 3739 became 1096 a traitor 4273.

 6:17 ¶ Jesus came 2597 down 2597 with them and stood 2476 on a level 3977 place 5117; and [there was] a large 4183 crowd 3793 of His disciples 3101, and a great 4183 throng 4128 of people 2992 from all 3956 Judea 2453 and Jerusalem 2419 and the coastal 3882 region 3882 of Tyre 5184 and Sidon 4605,

 6:18 who 3739 had come 2064 to hear 191 Him and to be healed 2390 of their diseases 3554; and those 3588 who were troubled 1776 with unclean 169 spirits 4151 were being cured 2323.

 6:19 And all 3956 the people 3793 were trying 2212 to touch 681 Him, for power 1411 was coming 1831 from Him and healing 2390 [them] all 3956.

 6:20 ¶ And turning 1869 His gaze 3788 toward 1519 His disciples 3101, He [began] to say 3004, “Blessed 3107 [are] you [who are] poor 4434, for yours 5212 is the kingdom 932 of God 2316.

 6:21 “Blessed 3107 [are] you who hunger 3983 now 3568, for you shall be satisfied 5526. Blessed 3107 [are] you who weep 2799 now 3568, for you shall laugh 1070.

 6:22 “Blessed 3107 are you when 3752 men 444 hate 3404 you, and ostracize 873 you, and insult 3679 you, and scorn 1544b your name 3686 as evil 4190, for the sake 1752a of the Son 5207 of Man 444.

 6:23 “Be glad 5463 in that day 2250 and leap 4640 [for joy], for behold 2400, your reward 3408 is great 4183 in heaven 3772. For in the same 846 way 2596 their fathers 3962 used to treat 4160 the prophets 4396.

 6:24 “But woe 3759 to you who are rich 4145, for you are receiving 568 your comfort 3874 in full 568.

 6:25 “Woe 3759 to you who are well-fed 1705a now 3568, for you shall be hungry 3983. Woe 3759 [to you] who laugh 1070 now 3568, for you shall mourn 3996 and weep 2799.

 6:26 “Woe 3759 [to you] when 3752 all 3956 men 444 speak 3004 well 2573 of you, for their fathers 3962 used to treat 4160 the false 5578 prophets 5578 in the same 846 way 2596.

 6:27 ¶ “But I say 3004 to you who hear 191, love 25 your enemies 2190, do 4160 good 2573 to those 3588 who hate 3404 you,

 6:28 bless 2127 those 3588 who curse 2672 you, pray 4336 for those 3588 who mistreat 1908 you.

 6:29 “Whoever hits 5180 you on the cheek 4600, offer 3930 him the other 243 also 2532; and whoever takes 142 away 142 your coat 2440, do not withhold 2967 your shirt 5509 from him either 2532.

 6:30 “Give 1325 to everyone 3956 who asks 154 of you, and whoever takes 142 away 142 what 3588 is yours 4674, do not demand 523 it back 523.

 6:31 “Treat 4160 others 444 the same 3668 way 3668 you want 2309 them to treat 4160 you.

 6:32 “If 1487 you love 25 those 3588 who love 25 you, what 4169 credit 5485 is [that] to you? For even 2532 sinners 268 love 25 those 3588 who love 25 them.

 6:33 “If 1437 you do 15 good 15 to those 3588 who do 15 good 15 to you, what 4169 credit 5485 is [that] to you? For even 2532 sinners 268 do 4160 the same 846.

 6:34 “If 1437 you lend 1155 to those from whom 3739 you expect 1679 to receive 2983, what 4169 credit 5485 is [that] to you? Even 2532 sinners 268 lend 1155 to sinners 268 in order 2443 to receive 618 back 618 the same 2470 [amount].

 6:35 “But love 25 your enemies 2190, and do 15 good 15, and lend 1155, expecting 560 nothing 3367 in return 560; and your reward 3408 will be great 4183, and you will be sons 5207 of the Most 5310 High 5310; for He Himself 846 is kind 5543 to ungrateful 884 and evil 4190 [men].

 6:36 “Be merciful 3629, just 2531a as your Father 3962 is merciful 3629.

 6:37 ¶ “Do not judge 2919, and you will not be judged 2919; and do not condemn 2613a, and you will not be condemned 2613a; pardon 630, and you will be pardoned 630.

 6:38 “Give 1325, and it will be given 1325 to you. They will pour 1325 into your lap 2859 a good 2570 measure 3358—pressed 4085 down 4085, shaken 4531 together 4531, [and] running 5240 over 5240. For by your standard 3358 of measure 3354 it will be measured 488 to you in return 488.”

 6:39 ¶ And He also 2532 spoke 3004 a parable 3850b to them: “A blind 5185 man 5185 cannot 1410 3385 guide 3594 a blind 5185 man 5185, can he? Will they not both 297 fall 1706 into a pit 999?

 6:40 “A pupil 3101 is not above 5228 his teacher 1320; but everyone 3956, after he has been fully 2675 trained 2675, will be like 5613 his teacher 1320.

 6:41 “Why 5101 do you look 991 at the speck 2595 that is in your brother’s 80 eye 3788, but do not notice 2657 the log 1385 that is in your own 2398 eye 3788?

 6:42 “Or how 4459 can 1410 you say 3004 to your brother 80, ‘Brother 80, let 863 me take 1544b out the speck 2595 that is in your eye 3788,’ when you yourself 846 do not see 991 the log 1385 that is in your own eye 3788? You hypocrite 5273, first 4413 take 1544b the log 1385 out of your own eye 3788, and then 5119 you will see 1227 clearly 1227 to take 1544b out the speck 2595 that is in your brother’s 80 eye 3788.

 6:43 “For there is no 3756 good 2570 tree 1186 which produces 4160 bad 4550 fruit 2590, nor 3761, on the other 3825 hand 3825, a bad 4550 tree 1186 which produces 4160 good 2570 fruit 2590.

 6:44 “For each 1538 tree 1186 is known 1097 by its own 2398 fruit 2590. For men do not gather 4816 figs 4810 from thorns 173, nor 3761 do they pick 5166 grapes 4718 from a briar 942 bush 942.

 6:45 “The good 18 man 444 out of the good 18 treasure 2344 of his heart 2588 brings 4393 forth 4393 what 18 is good 18; and the evil 4190 [man] out of the evil 4190 [treasure] brings 4393 forth 4393 what 4190 is evil 4190; for his mouth 4750 speaks 2980 from that which 4051 fills 4051 his heart 2588.

 6:46 ¶ “Why 5101 do you call 2564 Me, ‘Lord 2962, Lord 2962,’ and do not do 4160 what 3739 I say 3004?

 6:47 “Everyone 3956 who comes 2064 to Me and hears 191 My words 3056 and acts 4160 on them, I will show 5263 you whom 5101 he is like 3664:

 6:48 he is like 3664 a man 444 building 3618 a house 3614, who 3739 dug 4626 deep 900 and laid 5087 a foundation 2310b on the rock 4073; and when a flood 4132 occurred 1096, the torrent 4215 burst 4366 against 4366 that house 3614 and could 2480 not shake 4531 it, because 1223 it had been well 2573 built 3618.

 6:49 “But the one who has heard 191 and has not acted 4160 [accordingly], is like 3664 a man 444 who built 3618 a house 3614 on the ground 1093 without 5565 any foundation 2310b; and the torrent 4215 burst 4366 against 4366 it and immediately 2117 it collapsed 4844b, and the ruin 4485 of that house 3614 was great 3173.”
