 5:1 ¶ Then came°° all° the tribes° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° to° Däwiđ דָּוִד° unto Çevrôn חֶברוֹן,° and spake,°° saying,°° Behold,° we° [are] thy bone° and thy flesh.°

 5:1 ¶ Then came all the tribes of Yisrael to Dawid unto Chevron, and spake, saying, Behold, we [are] thy bone and thy flesh.

 5:2 Also° in time past,°° when Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° was° king° over° us, thou° wast° he that leddest out°° and broughtest°° in°° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:° and Yähwè יָהוֶה° said°° to thee, Thou° shalt feed°°° my people°° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° and thou° shalt be° a captain° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.°

 5:2 Also in time past, when Shaul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Yisrael: and Yahweh said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Yisrael, and thou shalt be a captain over Yisrael.

 5:3 So all° the elders° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° came°° to° the king° to Çevrôn חֶברוֹן;° and king° Däwiđ דָּוִד° made°° a league° with them in Çevrôn חֶברוֹן° before° Yähwè יָהוֶה:° and they anointed°°° Däwiđ דָּוִד° king° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.°

 5:3 So all the elders of Yisrael came to the king to Chevron; and king Dawid made a league with them in Chevron before Yahweh: and they anointed Dawid king over Yisrael.

 5:4 ¶ Däwiđ דָּוִד° [was] thirty° years° old° when he began to reign,°° [and] he reigned°° forty° years.°

 5:4 ¶ Dawid [was] thirty years old when he began to reign, [and] he reigned forty years.

 5:5 In Çevrôn חֶברוֹן° he reigned°° over° Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה° seven° years° and six° months:° and in Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם° he reigned°° thirty° and three° years° over° all° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° and Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה.°

 5:5 In Chevron he reigned over Yehudah seven years and six months: and in Yerushalaim he reigned thirty and three years over all Yisrael and Yehudah.

 5:6 ¶ And the king° and his men°° went°°° to Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם° unto° the Yævûsîm יְבוּסִים,° the inhabitants°° of the land:° which spake°° unto Däwiđ דָּוִד,° saying,°° Except°° thou take away°° the blind° and the lame,° thou shalt not° come in°° hither:° thinking,°° Däwiđ דָּוִד° cannot° come in°° hither.°

 5:6 ¶ And the king and his men went to Yerushalaim unto the Yevusim, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto Dawid, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, Dawid cannot come in hither.

 5:7 Nevertheless Däwiđ דָּוִד° took°°° the strong hold° of Xiyyôn צִיּוֹן:° the same° [is] the city° of Däwiđ דָּוִד.°

 5:7 Nevertheless Dawid took the strong hold of Tziyyon: the same [is] the city of Dawid.

 5:8 And Däwiđ דָּוִד° said°° on that° day,° Whosoever° getteth up°° to the gutter,° and smiteth°° the Yævûsîm יְבוּסִים,° and the lame° and the blind,° [that are] hated°° of Däwiđ's דָּוִד° soul,° [he shall be chief and captain]. Wherefore°° they said,°° The blind° and the lame° shall not° come°° into° the house.°

 5:8 And Dawid said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Yevusim, and the lame and the blind, [that are] hated of Dawid's soul, [he shall be chief and captain]. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

 5:9 So Däwiđ דָּוִד° dwelt°° in the fort,° and called°° it the city° of Däwiđ דָּוִד.° And Däwiđ דָּוִד° built°° round about° from° Millô´ מִלּוֹא° and inward.°

 5:9 So Dawid dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of Dawid. And Dawid built round about from Millo and inward.

 5:10 And Däwiđ דָּוִד° went°° on,°° and grew great,° and Yähwè יָהוֶה° ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° Xævä´ôŧ צְבָאוֹת° [was] with° him.

 5:10 And Dawid went on, and grew great, and Yahweh Elohim Tzevaoth [was] with him.

 5:11 ¶ And Çîräm חִירָם° king° of Xôr צוֹר° sent°° messengers° to° Däwiđ דָּוִד,° and cedar° trees,° and carpenters,°° and masons:°°°° and they built°° Däwiđ דָּוִד° an house.°

 5:11 ¶ And Chiram king of Tzor sent messengers to Dawid, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built Dawid an house.

 5:12 And Däwiđ דָּוִד° perceived°° that° Yähwè יָהוֶה° had established°° him king° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° and that° he had exalted°° his kingdom° for his people° Yiŝrä´ël's יִשׂרָאֵל° sake.°

 5:12 And Dawid perceived that Yahweh had established him king over Yisrael, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Yisrael's sake.

 5:13 ¶ And Däwiđ דָּוִד° took°° [him] more° concubines° and wives° out of Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם,°° after° he was come°° from Çevrôn חֶברוֹן:°° and there were yet° sons° and daughters° born°° to Däwiđ דָּוִד.°

 5:13 ¶ And Dawid took [him] more concubines and wives out of Yerushalaim, after he was come from Chevron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to Dawid.

 5:14 And these° [be] the names° of those that were born° unto him in Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם;° Šammûå` שַׁמּוּעַ,° and Šôväv שׁוֹבָב,° and Näŧän נָתָן,° and Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה,°

 5:14 And these [be] the names of those that were born unto him in Yerushalaim; Shammua, and Shovav, and Nathan, and Shelomoh,

 5:15 Yivçär יִבחָר° also, and ´Élîšûå` אֱלִישׁוּעַ,° and Nefeq נֶפֶג,° and Yäfîå` יָפִיעַ,°

 5:15 Yivchar also, and Elishua, and Nefeg, and Yafia,

 5:16 And ´Élîšämä` אֱלִישָׁמָע,° and ´Elyäđä` אֶליָדָע,° and ´Élîfäleţ אֱלִיפָלֶט.°

 5:16 And Elishama, and Elyada, and Elifalet.

 5:17 ¶ But when the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים° heard°° that° they had anointed°°° Däwiđ דָּוִד° king° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° all° the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים° came up°° to seek°°° Däwiđ דָּוִד;° and Däwiđ דָּוִד° heard°° [of it], and went down°° to° the hold.°

 5:17 ¶ But when the Pelishtim heard that they had anointed Dawid king over Yisrael, all the Pelishtim came up to seek Dawid; and Dawid heard [of it], and went down to the hold.

 5:18 The Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים° also came°° and spread°° themselves° in the valley° of Ræfä´îm רְפָאִים.°

 5:18 The Pelishtim also came and spread themselves in the valley of Refaim.

 5:19 And Däwiđ דָּוִד° enquired°° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° saying,°° Shall I go up°° to° the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים?° wilt thou deliver°° them into mine hand?° And Yähwè יָהוֶה° said°° unto° Däwiđ דָּוִד,° Go up:°° for° I will doubtless°° deliver°°° the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים° into thine hand.°

 5:19 And Dawid enquired of Yahweh, saying, Shall I go up to the Pelishtim? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And Yahweh said unto Dawid, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Pelishtim into thine hand.

 5:20 And Däwiđ דָּוִד° came°° to Ba`al Pæräxîm בַּעַל־פְּרָצִים,° and Däwiđ דָּוִד° smote°° them there,° and said,°° Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath broken forth°° upon°° mine enemies°° before° me, as the breach° of waters.° Therefore°° he called°° the name° of that° place° Ba`al Pæräxîm בַּעַל־פְּרָצִים.°

 5:20 And Dawid came to Baal-Peratzim, and Dawid smote them there, and said, Yahweh hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-Peratzim.

 5:21 And there° they left°°° their images,° and Däwiđ דָּוִד° and his men°° burned°° them.

 5:21 And there they left their images, and Dawid and his men burned them.

 5:22 ¶ And the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים° came up°° yet° again,°° and spread°° themselves° in the valley° of Ræfä´îm רְפָאִים.°

 5:22 ¶ And the Pelishtim came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Refaim.

 5:23 And when Däwiđ דָּוִד° enquired°° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° he said,°° Thou shalt not° go up;°° [but] fetch a compass°°° behind° them, and come°° upon them over against°° the mulberry trees.°

 5:23 And when Dawid enquired of Yahweh, he said, Thou shalt not go up; [but] fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

 5:24 And let it be,° when thou hearest°°° the sound° of a going° in the tops° of the mulberry trees,° that then° thou shalt bestir°° thyself: for° then° shall Yähwè יָהוֶה° go out°° before° thee, to smite°° the host° of the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים.°

 5:24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall Yahweh go out before thee, to smite the host of the Pelishtim.

 5:25 And Däwiđ דָּוִד° did° so,°°° as° Yähwè יָהוֶה° had commanded°° him; and smote°°° the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים° from Geva` גֶּבַע°° until thou come°° to Gäzer גָּזֶר.°

 5:25 And Dawid did so, as Yahweh had commanded him; and smote the Pelishtim from Geva until thou come to Gazer.
