11:1 ¶
And it came to pass,°
after the year°
was expired,°
at the time°
when kings°°°
go forth°°
[to battle], that
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
sent°°°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב,°
and his servants°
with°
him, and all°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל;°
and they destroyed°°°
the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן,°
and besieged°°°
Rabbà
רַבָּה.°
But
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
tarried°
still°°
at
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם.° |
|
11:1 ¶
And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth [to battle], that Dawid sent Yoav, and his servants with him, and all Yisrael; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But Dawid tarried still at Yerushalaim. |
11:2 ¶
And it came to pass°
in an eveningtide,°°
that
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
arose°°
from off°°
his bed,°
and walked°°
upon°
the roof°
of the king's°
house:°
and from°°
the roof°
he saw°°
a woman°
washing°°
herself; and the woman°
[was] very°
beautiful°
to look°
upon.° |
|
11:2 ¶
And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that Dawid arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman [was] very beautiful to look upon. |
11:3
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
sent°°
and enquired°°
after the woman.°
And [one] said,°°
[Is] not°
this°
Baŧ Ševa`
בַּת־שֶׁבַע,°
the daughter°
of
´Élî`äm
אֱלִיעָם,°
the wife°
of
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
the
Çittî
חִתִּי?° |
|
11:3
And Dawid sent and enquired after the woman. And [one] said, [Is] not this Bath-Sheva, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriyyah the Chitti? |
11:4
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
sent°°
messengers,°
and took°°
her; and she came°
in°°
unto°
him, and he lay°°
with her;°
for she°
was purified°°
from her uncleanness:°°
and she returned°°
unto°
her house.° |
|
11:4
And Dawid sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. |
11:5
And the woman°
conceived,°°
and sent°°
and told°°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
and said,°°
I°
[am] with child.° |
|
11:5
And the woman conceived, and sent and told Dawid, and said, I [am] with child. |
11:6 ¶
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
sent°°
to°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב,°
[saying], Send°°°
me°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
the
Çittî
חִתִּי.°
And
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
sent°°°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
to°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד.° |
|
11:6 ¶
And Dawid sent to Yoav, [saying], Send me Uriyyah the Chitti. And Yoav sent Uriyyah to Dawid. |
11:7
And when
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
was come°°
unto°
him,
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
demanded°°
[of him] how
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
did,°
and how the people°
did,°
and how the war°
prospered.° |
|
11:7
And when Uriyyah was come unto him, Dawid demanded [of him] how Yoav did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered. |
11:8
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
said°°
to
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה,°
Go down°°
to thy house,°
and wash°°
thy feet.°
And
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
departed°
out°°
of the king's°
house,°°°
and there followed°°
him a mess°
[of meat] from the king.° |
|
11:8
And Dawid said to Uriyyah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriyyah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess [of meat] from the king. |
11:9
But
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
slept°°
at the door°
of the king's°
house°
with°
all°
the servants°
of his
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן,°
and went°
not°
down°°
to°
his house.° |
|
11:9
But Uriyyah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his adon, and went not down to his house. |
11:10
And when they had told°°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
saying,°°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
went not down°°°
unto°
his house,°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
said°°
unto°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה,°
Camest°°
thou°
not°
from [thy] journey?°°
why°
[then] didst thou not°
go down°°
unto°
thine house?° |
|
11:10
And when they had told Dawid, saying, Uriyyah went not down unto his house, Dawid said unto Uriyyah, Camest thou not from [thy] journey? why [then] didst thou not go down unto thine house? |
11:11
And
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
said°°
unto°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
The ark,°
and
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
abide°°
in tents;°
and my
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב,°
and the servants°
of my
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן,°
are encamped°°
in°
the open°
fields;°
shall I°
then go°°
into°
mine house,°
to eat°°
and to drink,°°
and to lie°°
with°
my wife?°
[as] thou livest,°
and [as] thy soul°
liveth,°
I will not do°°°
this°
thing.° |
|
11:11
And Uriyyah said unto Dawid, The ark, and Yisrael, and Yehudah, abide in tents; and my adon Yoav, and the servants of my adon, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? [as] thou livest, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing. |
11:12
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
said°°
to°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה,°
Tarry°°
here°
to day°
also,°
and to morrow°
I will let thee depart.°°
So
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
abode°°
in
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם°
that°
day,°
and the morrow.°° |
|
11:12
And Dawid said to Uriyyah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriyyah abode in Yerushalaim that day, and the morrow. |
11:13
And when
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
had called°°
him, he did eat°°
and drink°°
before°
him; and he made him drunk:°°
and at even°
he went out°°
to lie°°
on his bed°
with°
the servants°
of his
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן,°
but went°
not°
down°°
to°
his house.° |
|
11:13
And when Dawid had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his adon, but went not down to his house. |
11:14 ¶
And it came to pass°
in the morning,°
that
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
wrote°°
a letter°
to°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב,°
and sent°°
[it] by the hand°
of
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה.° |
|
11:14 ¶
And it came to pass in the morning, that Dawid wrote a letter to Yoav, and sent [it] by the hand of Uriyyah. |
11:15
And he wrote°°
in the letter,°
saying,°°
Set°°
ye°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
in°
the forefront°°
of the hottest°
battle,°
and retire°°
ye from°°
him,°
that he may be smitten,°°
and die.°° |
|
11:15
And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriyyah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die. |
11:16
And it came to pass,°
when
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
observed°°°
the city,°
that he assigned°°°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
unto°
a place°
where°°
he knew°°
that°
valiant°
men°°
[were]. |
|
11:16
And it came to pass, when Yoav observed the city, that he assigned Uriyyah unto a place where he knew that valiant men [were]. |
11:17
And the men°°
of the city°
went out,°°
and fought°°
with°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב:°
and there fell°°
[some] of°
the people°
of the servants°°
of
Däwiđ
דָּוִד;°
and
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
the
Çittî
חִתִּי°
died°°
also.° |
|
11:17
And the men of the city went out, and fought with Yoav: and there fell [some] of the people of the servants of Dawid; and Uriyyah the Chitti died also. |
11:18 ¶
Then
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
sent°°
and told°°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°°
all°
the things°
concerning the war;° |
|
11:18 ¶
Then Yoav sent and told Dawid all the things concerning the war; |
11:19
And charged°°°
the messenger,°
saying,°°
When thou hast made an end°°
of telling°°
the matters°
of the war°
unto°
the king,° |
|
11:19
And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king, |
11:20
And if°
so be°
that the king's°
wrath°
arise,°°
and he say°°
unto thee, Wherefore°
approached°
ye so nigh°°
unto°
the city°
when ye did fight?°°
knew°°
ye not°
that°
they would shoot°°
from°°
the wall?° |
|
11:20
And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall? |
11:21
Who°
smote°°°
´Ávîmeleȼ
אֲבִימֶלֶך°
the son°
of
Yærubbešeŧ
יְרֻבֶּשֶׁת?°
did not°
a woman°
cast°°
a piece°
of a millstone°
upon°
him from°°
the wall,°
that he died°°
in
Tëvëx
תֵּבֵץ?°
why°
went ye nigh°°°
the wall?°
then say°°
thou, Thy servant°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
the
Çittî
חִתִּי°
is dead°°
also.° |
|
11:21
Who smote Avimelekh the son of Yerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Tevetz? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriyyah the Chitti is dead also. |
11:22 ¶
So the messenger°
went,°°°
and came°°
and shewed°°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°°
all°
that°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
had sent°°
him for. |
|
11:22 ¶
So the messenger went, and came and shewed Dawid all that Yoav had sent him for. |
11:23
And the messenger°
said°°
unto°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
Surely°
the men°°
prevailed°°
against°
us, and came out°°
unto°
us into the field,°
and we were°
upon°
them even unto°
the entering°
of the gate.° |
|
11:23
And the messenger said unto Dawid, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate. |
11:24
And the shooters°°
shot°°
from off°°
the wall°
upon°
thy servants;°
and [some] of the king's°
servants°°°
be dead,°°
and thy servant°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
the
Çittî
חִתִּי°
is dead°°
also.° |
|
11:24
And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and [some] of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriyyah the Chitti is dead also. |
11:25
Then
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
said°°
unto°
the messenger,°
Thus°
shalt thou say°°
unto°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב,°
Let not°°
this°
thing°
displease°°°
thee, for°
the sword°
devoureth°°
one°
as well as another:°
make thy battle°
more strong°°
against°
the city,°
and overthrow°°
it: and encourage°°
thou him. |
|
11:25
Then Dawid said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Yoav, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him. |
11:26 ¶
And when the wife°
of
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
heard°°
that°
´Ûriyyà
אוּרִיָּה°
her husband°
was dead,°°
she mourned°°
for°
her husband.° |
|
11:26 ¶
And when the wife of Uriyyah heard that Uriyyah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. |
11:27
And when the mourning°
was past,°°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
sent°°
and fetched°°
her to°
his house,°
and she became°
his wife,°
and bare°°
him a son.°
But the thing°
that°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
had done°°
displeased°°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.° |
|
11:27
And when the mourning was past, Dawid sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that Dawid had done displeased Yahweh. |
