he slewººº

Giv`önîm
גִּבעֹנִים.º |

21:1 ¶
Then there was a famine in the days of Dawid three years, year after year; and Dawid enquired of Yahweh. And Yahweh answered, [It is] for Shaul, and for [his] bloody house, because he slew the Givonim. |
|
21:2
And the kingº
calledºº
the
Giv`önîm
גִּבעֹנִים,º
and saidºº
untoº
them; (now the
Giv`önîm
גִּבעֹנִיםº
[were] notº
of the childrenºº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
butºº
of the remnantºº
of the
´Émörîm
אֱמֹרִים;º
and the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
had swornºº
unto them: and
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
soughtºº
to slayºº
them in his zealºº
to the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
and
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה.)º |
21:2
And the king called the Givonim, and said unto them; (now the Givonim [were] not of the children of Yisrael, but of the remnant of the Emorim; and the children of Yisrael had sworn unto them: and Shaul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Yisrael and Yehudah.) |

Wherefore

Whatº
shall I doºº
for you? and wherewithº
shall I make the atonement,ºº
that ye may blessººº
the inheritanceº

Yähwè
יָהוֶה?º |
21:3
Wherefore Dawid said unto the Givonim, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of Yahweh? |

And the
Giv`önîm
גִּבעֹנִיםº
saidºº
unto him, We will have noº
silverº
nor goldº
ofº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,º
nor ofº
his house;º
neitherº
for us shalt thou killºº
any manº
in
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º
And he said,ºº
Whatº
yeº
shall say,ºº
[that] will I doºº
for you. |
21:4
And the Givonim said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Shaul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Yisrael. And he said, What ye shall say, [that] will I do for you. |

And they answeredººº
the king,º
The manº
thatº
consumedºº
us, and thatº
devisedºº
against us [that] we should be destroyedºº
from remainingººº
in anyº
of the coastsº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º |
21:5
And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us [that] we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Yisrael, |

of his sonsºº
be deliveredºº
unto us, and we will hangº
them upºº
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
in

שָׁאוּל,º
[whom]
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
did choose.º
And the kingº
said,ºº
Iº
will giveºº
[them]. |
21:6
Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto Yahweh in Givah of Shaul, [whom] Yahweh did choose. And the king said, I will give [them]. |

21:7
But the king spared Mefivosheth, the son of Yehonathan the son of Shaul, because of Yahweh's oath that [was] between them, between Dawid and Yehonathan the son of Shaul. |

the daughterº
of
´Ayyà
אַיָּה,º
whomº
she bareºº
unto
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,ºº
´Armönî

מְפִיבֹשֶׁת;º
and the fiveº
sonsº
of
Mî¢al
מִיכַלº
the daughterº
of
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,º
whomº
she brought upºº
for
`Aðrî´ël
עַדרִיאֵלº
the sonº
of
Barzillay
בַּרזִלַּיº
the
Mæçölä±î
מְחֹלָתִי:º |
21:8
But the king took the two sons of Ritzpah the daughter of Ayyah, whom she bare unto Shaul, Armoni and Mefivosheth; and the five sons of Mikhal the daughter of Shaul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillay the Mecholathi: |

And he deliveredºº
them into the handsº
of the
Giv`önîm
גִּבעֹנִים,º
and they hangedºº
them in the hillº
beforeº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:º
and they fellºº
[all] sevenººº
together,º
and were put to deathºº
in the daysº
of harvest,º
in the firstº
[days], in the beginningº
of barleyº
harvest.º |
21:9
And he delivered them into the hands of the Givonim, and they hanged them in the hill before Yahweh: and they fell [all] seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first [days], in the beginning of barley harvest. |

And

it for her uponº
the rock,º
from the beginningºº
of harvestº

onº
them by day,º
nor the beastsº
of the fieldº
by night.º |
21:10 ¶
And Ritzpah the daughter of Ayyah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night. |

21:12 ¶
And Dawid went and took the bones of Shaul and the bones of Yehonathan his son from the men of Yavesh-Gilad, which had stolen them from the street of Beth-Shan, where the Pelishtim had hanged them, when the Pelishtim had slain Shaul in Gilboa: |

And he brought upºº

the bonesº

and the bonesº

יְהוֹנָתָןº
his son;º
and they gatheredººº
the bonesº
of them that were hanged.ºº |

And he brought up from thence the bones of Shaul and the bones of Yehonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged. |

And the bones of Shaul and Yehonathan his son buried they in the country of Binyamin in Tzela, in the sepulchre of Qish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that Elohim was intreated for the land. |

Moreover the

went down,ºº
and his servantsº
withº
him, and foughtºº
againstºº

21:15 ¶
Moreover the Pelishtim had yet war again with Yisrael; and Dawid went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Pelishtim: and Dawid waxed faint. |

And Yishbi-Benov, which [was] of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear [weighed] three hundred [shekels] of brass in weight, he being girded with a new [sword], thought to have slain Dawid. |

But Avishay the son of Tzeruyah succoured him, and smote the Pelishti, and killed him. Then the men of Dawid sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Yisrael. |

And it came to passº

And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Pelishtim at Gov: then Sibbekhay the Chushathi slew Saf, which [was] of the sons of the giant. |

21:19
And there was again a battle in Gov with the Pelishtim, where Elchanan the son of Yare-Orgim, a Beth-Lachmi, slew [the brother of] Golyath the Gitti, the staff of whose spear [was] like a weaver's beam. |

And there wasº

of [great] stature,ººº
that had on every handº

fingers,º
and on every footº

toes,º

and twentyº
in number;º

And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of [great] stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant. |

And when he defied Yisrael, Yehonathan the son of Shima the brother of Dawid slew him. |

These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of Dawid, and by the hand of his servants. |
