24:1 ¶
And again°°
the anger°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
was kindled°°
against
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and he moved°°°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
against them to say,°°
Go,°°°
number°°°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
and
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה.° |
|
24:1 ¶
And again the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Yisrael, and he moved Dawid against them to say, Go, number Yisrael and Yehudah. |
24:2
For the king°
said°°
to°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
the captain°
of the host,°
which°
[was] with°
him, Go°
now°
through°°
all°
the tribes°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
from
Dän
דָּן°°
even to°
Bæ´ër Ševa`
בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַע,°
and number°°
ye°
the people,°
that I may know°°°
the number°
of the people.° |
|
24:2
For the king said to Yoav the captain of the host, which [was] with him, Go now through all the tribes of Yisrael, from Dan even to Beer-Sheva, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people. |
24:3
And
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
said°°
unto°
the king,°
Now
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
thy
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
add°°
unto°
the people,°
how many soever°
they be,°
an hundredfold,°°
and that the eyes°
of my
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן°
the king°
may see°°
[it]: but why°
doth my
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן°
the king°
delight°°
in this°
thing?° |
|
24:3
And Yoav said unto the king, Now Yahweh thy Elohim add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my adon the king may see [it]: but why doth my adon the king delight in this thing? |
24:4
Notwithstanding the king's°
word°
prevailed°°
against°
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב,°
and against°
the captains°
of the host.°
And
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
and the captains°
of the host°
went out°°
from the presence°
of the king,°
to number°°°
the people°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |
|
24:4
Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Yoav, and against the captains of the host. And Yoav and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Yisrael. |
24:5 ¶
And they passed over°°°
Yardën
יַרדֵּן,°
and pitched°°
in
`Árö`ër
עֲרֹעֵר,°
on the right side°
of the city°
that°
[lieth] in the midst°
of the river°
of
Gäđ
גָּד,°
and toward°
Ya`zër
יַעזֵר:° |
|
24:5 ¶
And they passed over Yarden, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that [lieth] in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Yazer: |
24:6
Then they came°°
to
Gil`äđ
גִּלעָד,°
and to°
the land°
of
Taçtîm Çođšî
תַּחתִּים־חָדשִׁי;°
and they came°°
to
Dän Ya`an
דָּן־יַעַן,°
and about°
to°
Xîđôn
צִידוֹן,° |
|
24:6
Then they came to Gilad, and to the land of Tachtim-Chodshi; and they came to Dan-Yaan, and about to Tzidon, |
24:7
And came°°
to the strong hold°
of
Xôr
צוֹר,°
and to all°
the cities°
of the
Çiwwîm
חִוִּים,°
and of the
Cæna`ánîm
כְּנַעֲנִים:°
and they went out°°
to°
the south°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
[even] to
Bæ´ër Ševa`
בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַע.° |
|
24:7
And came to the strong hold of Tzor, and to all the cities of the Chiwwim, and of the Kenaanim: and they went out to the south of Yehudah, [even] to Beer-Sheva. |
24:8
So when they had gone°°
through all°
the land,°
they came°°
to
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם°
at the end°°
of nine°
months°
and twenty°
days.° |
|
24:8
So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Yerushalaim at the end of nine months and twenty days. |
24:9
And
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
gave up°°°
the sum°
of the number°
of the people°
unto°
the king:°
and there were°
in
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
eight°
hundred°
thousand°
valiant°
men°°°
that drew°°
the sword;°
and the men°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה°
[were] five°
hundred°
thousand°
men.° |
|
24:9
And Yoav gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Yisrael eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Yehudah [were] five hundred thousand men. |
24:10 ¶
And
Däwiđ's
דָּוִד°
heart°
smote°°
him after°
that°
he had numbered°°°
the people.°
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
said°°
unto°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
I have sinned°°
greatly°
in that°
I have done:°°
and now,°
I beseech thee,°
O
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
take away°°°
the iniquity°
of thy servant;°
for°
I have done very°
foolishly.°° |
|
24:10 ¶
And Dawid's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And Dawid said unto Yahweh, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O Yahweh, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. |
24:11
For when
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
was up°°
in the morning,°
the word°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
came°
unto°
the prophet°
Gäđ
גָּד,°
Däwiđ's
דָּוִד°
seer,°
saying,°° |
|
24:11
For when Dawid was up in the morning, the word of Yahweh came unto the prophet Gad, Dawid's seer, saying, |
24:12
Go°°
and say°°
unto°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
Thus°
saith°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
I°
offer°°°
thee three°
[things]; choose°°
thee one°
of°
them, that I may [do°
it] unto thee.°° |
|
24:12
Go and say unto Dawid, Thus saith Yahweh, I offer thee three [things]; choose thee one of them, that I may [do it] unto thee. |
24:13
So
Gäđ
גָּד°
came°°
to°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
and told°°
him, and said°°
unto him, Shall seven°
years°
of famine°
come°°
unto thee in thy land?°
or°
wilt thou flee°°
three°
months°
before°
thine enemies,°
while they°
pursue°°
thee? or°
that there be°
three°
days'°
pestilence°
in thy land?°
now°
advise,°°
and see°°
what°
answer°
I shall return°°
to him that sent°°
me. |
|
24:13
So Gad came to Dawid, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me. |
24:14
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
said°°
unto°
Gäđ
גָּד,°
I am in a great°
strait:°°°
let us fall°°
now°
into the hand°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה;°
for°
his mercies°
[are] great:°
and let me not°
fall°°
into the hand°
of man.° |
|
24:14
And Dawid said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of Yahweh; for his mercies [are] great: and let me not fall into the hand of man. |
24:15 ¶
So
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
sent°°
a pestilence°
upon
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
from the morning°
even to°
the time°
appointed:°
and there died°°
of°
the people°
from
Dän
דָּן°°
even to°
Bæ´ër Ševa`
בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַע°
seventy°
thousand°
men.° |
|
24:15 ¶
So Yahweh sent a pestilence upon Yisrael from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-Sheva seventy thousand men. |
24:16
And when the angel°
stretched out°°
his hand°
upon
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם°
to destroy°°
it,
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
repented°°
him°
of°
the evil,°
and said°°
to the angel°
that destroyed°°
the people,°
It is enough:°
stay°°
now°
thine hand.°
And the angel°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
was°
by°
the threshingplace°
of
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה°
the
Yævûsî
יְבוּסִי.° |
|
24:16
And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Yerushalaim to destroy it, Yahweh repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of Yahweh was by the threshingplace of Arawnah the Yevusi. |
24:17
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
spake°°
unto°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
when he saw°°°
the angel°
that smote°°
the people,°
and said,°°
Lo,°
I°
have sinned,°°
and I°
have done wickedly:°°
but these°
sheep,°
what°
have they done?°°
let thine hand,°
I pray thee,°
be°
against me, and against my father's°
house.° |
|
24:17
And Dawid spake unto Yahweh when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house. |
24:18 ¶
And
Gäđ
גָּד°
came°°
that°
day°
to°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
and said°°
unto him, Go up,°°
rear°°
an altar°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
in the threshingfloor°
of
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה°
the
Yævûsî
יְבוּסִי.° |
|
24:18 ¶
And Gad came that day to Dawid, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto Yahweh in the threshingfloor of Arawnah the Yevusi. |
24:19
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
according to the saying°
of
Gäđ
גָּד,°
went up°°
as°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
commanded.°° |
|
24:19
And Dawid, according to the saying of Gad, went up as Yahweh commanded. |
24:20
And
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה°
looked,°°
and saw°°°
the king°
and his servants°
coming on°°
toward°
him: and
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה°
went out,°°
and bowed°°
himself°
before the king°
on his face°
upon the ground.° |
|
24:20
And Arawnah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Arawnah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground. |
24:21
And
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה°
said,°°
Wherefore°
is my
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן°
the king°
come°°
to°
his servant?°
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
said,°°
To buy°°°
the threshingfloor°
of°°
thee, to build°°
an altar°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
that the plague°
may be stayed°°
from°°
the people.° |
|
24:21
And Arawnah said, Wherefore is my adon the king come to his servant? And Dawid said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto Yahweh, that the plague may be stayed from the people. |
24:22
And
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה°
said°°
unto°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
Let my
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן°
the king°
take°°
and offer up°°
what [seemeth] good°
unto him:°
behold,°°
[here be] oxen°
for burnt sacrifice,°
and threshing instruments°
and [other] instruments°
of the oxen°
for wood.° |
|
24:22
And Arawnah said unto Dawid, Let my adon the king take and offer up what [seemeth] good unto him: behold, [here be] oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and [other] instruments of the oxen for wood. |
24:23
All°
these [things] did
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה,°
[as] a king,°
give°°
unto°
the king.°
And
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה°
said°°
unto the king,°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
thy
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
accept°°
thee. |
|
24:23
All these [things] did Arawnah, [as] a king, give unto the king. And Arawnah said unto the king, Yahweh thy Elohim accept thee. |
24:24
And the king°
said°°
unto°
´Árawnà
אֲרַונָה,°
Nay;°
but°
I will surely°°
buy°°
[it] of°°
thee at a price:°
neither°
will I offer°°
burnt offerings°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
my
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of that which°
doth cost me nothing.°
So
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
bought°°°
the threshingfloor°
and the oxen°
for fifty°
shekels°
of silver.° |
|
24:24
And the king said unto Arawnah, Nay; but I will surely buy [it] of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto Yahweh my Elohim of that which doth cost me nothing. So Dawid bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. |
24:25
And
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
built°°
there°
an altar°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
and offered°°
burnt offerings°
and peace offerings.°
So
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
was intreated°°
for the land,°
and the plague°
was stayed°°
from°°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |
|
24:25
And Dawid built there an altar unto Yahweh, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Yahweh was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Yisrael. |
