 16:1 ¶ And when Däwiđ דָּוִד° was a little° past°° the top°° [of the hill], behold,° Xîvä´ צִיבָא° the servant° of Mæfîvöšeŧ מְפִיבֹשֶׁת° met°° him, with a couple° of asses° saddled,°° and upon° them two hundred° [loaves] of bread,° and an hundred° bunches of raisins,° and an hundred° of summer fruits,° and a bottle° of wine.°

 16:1 ¶ And when Dawid was a little past the top [of the hill], behold, Tziva the servant of Mefivosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred [loaves] of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

 16:2 And the king° said°° unto° Xîvä´ צִיבָא,° What° meanest thou by these?° And Xîvä´ צִיבָא° said,°° The asses° [be] for the king's° household° to ride on;°° and the bread° and summer fruit° for the young men° to eat;°° and the wine,° that such as be faint° in the wilderness° may drink.°°

 16:2 And the king said unto Tziva, What meanest thou by these? And Tziva said, The asses [be] for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.

 16:3 And the king° said,°° And where° [is] thy ´áđôn's אֲדוֹן° son?° And Xîvä´ צִיבָא° said°° unto° the king,° Behold,° he abideth°° at Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם:° for° he said,°° To day° shall the house° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° restore°° me° the kingdom° of my father.°

 16:3 And the king said, And where [is] thy adon's son? And Tziva said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Yerushalaim: for he said, To day shall the house of Yisrael restore me the kingdom of my father.

 16:4 Then said°° the king° to Xîvä´ צִיבָא,° Behold,° thine [are] all° that° [pertained] unto Mæfîvöšeŧ מְפִיבֹשֶׁת.° And Xîvä´ צִיבָא° said,°° I humbly°° beseech° thee [that] I may find°° grace° in thy sight,° my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן,° O king.°

 16:4 Then said the king to Tziva, Behold, thine [are] all that [pertained] unto Mefivosheth. And Tziva said, I humbly beseech thee [that] I may find grace in thy sight, my adon, O king.

 16:5 ¶ And when king° Däwiđ דָּוִד° came°° to° Baçurîm בַּחֻרִים,° behold,° thence°° came out°° a man° of the family°° of the house° of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,° whose name° [was] Šim`î שִׁמעִי,° the son° of Gërä´ גֵּרָא:° he came forth,°° and cursed°° still as he came.°°

 16:5 ¶ And when king Dawid came to Bachurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Shaul, whose name [was] Shimi, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.

 16:6 And he cast°° stones° at° Däwiđ דָּוִד,° and at all° the servants° of king° Däwiđ דָּוִד:° and all° the people° and all° the mighty men° [were] on his right hand°° and on his left.°°

 16:6 And he cast stones at Dawid, and at all the servants of king Dawid: and all the people and all the mighty men [were] on his right hand and on his left.

 16:7 And thus° said°° Šim`î שִׁמעִי° when he cursed,°° Come out,°° come out,°° thou bloody° man,° and thou man° of Bæliyya`al בְּלִיַּעַל:°

 16:7 And thus said Shimi when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Beliyyaal:

 16:8 Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath returned°° upon° thee all° the blood° of the house° of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,° in whose° stead° thou hast reigned;°° and Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath delivered°°° the kingdom° into the hand° of ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם° thy son:° and, behold,° thou [art taken] in thy mischief,° because° thou° [art] a bloody° man.°

 16:8 Yahweh hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Shaul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and Yahweh hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Avshalom thy son: and, behold, thou [art taken] in thy mischief, because thou [art] a bloody man.

 16:9 ¶ Then said°° ´Ávîšay אֲבִישַׁי° the son° of Xærûyà צְרוּיָה° unto° the king,° Why° should this° dead°° dog° curse°°° my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king?° let me go over,°° I pray thee,° and take off°°° his head.°

 16:9 ¶ Then said Avishay the son of Tzeruyah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my adon the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.

 16:10 And the king° said,°° What° have I to do with you, ye sons° of Xærûyà צְרוּיָה?° so° let him curse,°° because° Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath said°° unto him, Curse°°° Däwiđ דָּוִד.° Who° shall then say,°° Wherefore° hast thou done° so?°°°

 16:10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Tzeruyah? so let him curse, because Yahweh hath said unto him, Curse Dawid. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?

 16:11 And Däwiđ דָּוִד° said°° to° ´Ávîšay אֲבִישַׁי,° and to° all° his servants,° Behold,° my son,° which° came forth°° of my bowels,°° seeketh°°° my life:° how much more°° now° [may this] Benyæmînî בֶּניְמִינִי° [do it]? let him alone,°°° and let him curse;°° for° Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath bidden°° him.

 16:11 And Dawid said to Avishay, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now [may this] Benyemini [do it]? let him alone, and let him curse; for Yahweh hath bidden him.

 16:12 It may be° that Yähwè יָהוֶה° will look°° on mine affliction,°°° and that Yähwè יָהוֶה° will requite°° me good° for° his cursing° this° day.°

 16:12 It may be that Yahweh will look on mine affliction, and that Yahweh will requite me good for his cursing this day.

 16:13 And as Däwiđ דָּוִד° and his men°° went°°° by the way,° Šim`î שִׁמעִי° went along°° on the hill's° side° over against° him, and cursed°° as he went,°° and threw°° stones° at° him, and cast°° dust.°

 16:15 ¶ And Avshalom, and all the people the men of Yisrael, came to Yerushalaim, and Achithofel with him.

 16:16 And it came to pass,° when° Çûšay חוּשַׁי° the ´Arcî אַרכִּי,° Däwiđ's דָּוִד° friend,° was come°° unto° ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם,° that Çûšay חוּשַׁי° said°° unto° ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם,° God save°° the king,° God save°° the king.°

 16:16 And it came to pass, when Chushay the Arki, Dawid's friend, was come unto Avshalom, that Chushay said unto Avshalom, God save the king, God save the king.

 16:17 And ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם° said°° to° Çûšay חוּשַׁי,° [Is] this° thy kindness° to° thy friend?° why° wentest°° thou not° with° thy friend?°

 16:17 And Avshalom said to Chushay, [Is] this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?

 16:18 And Çûšay חוּשַׁי° said°° unto° ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם,° Nay;° but° whom° Yähwè יָהוֶה,° and this° people,° and all° the men° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° choose,°° his will I be,° and with° him will I abide.°°

 16:18 And Chushay said unto Avshalom, Nay; but whom Yahweh, and this people, and all the men of Yisrael, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.

 16:19 And again,° whom° should I° serve?°° [should I] not° [serve] in the presence° of his son?° as° I have served°° in thy father's° presence,° so° will I be° in thy presence.°

 16:19 And again, whom should I serve? [should I] not [serve] in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence.

 16:20 ¶ Then said°° ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם° to° ´Áçîŧöfel אֲחִיתֹפֶל,° Give°° counsel° among you what° we shall do.°°

 16:20 ¶ Then said Avshalom to Achithofel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.

 16:21 And ´Áçîŧöfel אֲחִיתֹפֶל° said°° unto° ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם,° Go° in°° unto° thy father's° concubines,° which° he hath left°°° to keep°° the house;° and all° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° shall hear°° that° thou art abhorred°° of° thy father:° then shall the hands° of all° that° [are] with° thee be strong.°°

 16:21 And Achithofel said unto Avshalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Yisrael shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that [are] with thee be strong.

 16:22 So they spread°° ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם° a tent° upon° the top° of the house;° and ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם° went° in°° unto° his father's° concubines° in the sight° of all° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.°

 16:22 So they spread Avshalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Avshalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Yisrael.

 16:23 And the counsel° of ´Áçîŧöfel אֲחִיתֹפֶל,° which° he counselled°° in those° days,° [was] as° if a man° had enquired°° at the oracle° of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים:° so° [was] all° the counsel° of ´Áçîŧöfel אֲחִיתֹפֶל° both° with Däwiđ דָּוִד° and° with ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם.°

 16:23 And the counsel of Achithofel, which he counselled in those days, [was] as if a man had enquired at the oracle of Elohim: so [was] all the counsel of Achithofel both with Dawid and with Avshalom.
