 16:1 ¶
And when

was a littleº
pastºº
the topºº
[of the hill], behold,º
Xîvä´
צִיבָאº
the servantº
of
Mæfîvöše±
מְפִיבֹשֶׁתº
metºº
him, with a coupleº
of assesº
saddled,ºº
and uponº
them two hundredº
[loaves] of bread,º
and an hundredº
bunches of raisins,º
and an hundredº
of summer fruits,º
and a bottleº
of wine.º |

 16:1 ¶
And when Dawid was a little past the top [of the hill], behold, Tziva the servant of Mefivosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred [loaves] of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine. |

meanest thou by these?º
And

The assesº
[be] for the king'sº
householdº
to ride on;ºº
and the breadº
and summer fruitº
for the young menº
to eat;ºº
and the wine,º
that such as be faintº
in the wildernessº
may drink.ºº |

And the king said unto Tziva, What meanest thou by these? And Tziva said, The asses [be] for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink. |

And whereº

son?º

the king,º
Behold,º
he abidethºº

Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם:º

shall the houseº

Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
restoreºº
meº
the kingdomº
of my father.º |
 16:3
And the king said, And where [is] thy adon's son? And Tziva said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Yerushalaim: for he said, To day shall the house of Yisrael restore me the kingdom of my father. |

Behold,º
thine [are] allº
thatº
[pertained] unto

מְפִיבֹשֶׁת.º
And

צִיבָאº
said,ºº
I humblyºº
beseechº
thee [that] I may findºº
graceº
in thy sight,º
my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן,º
O king.º |
 16:4
Then said the king to Tziva, Behold, thine [are] all that [pertained] unto Mefivosheth. And Tziva said, I humbly beseech thee [that] I may find grace in thy sight, my adon, O king. |
 16:5 ¶

 16:5 ¶
And when king Dawid came to Bachurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Shaul, whose name [was] Shimi, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came. |

And he castºº

the servantsº

the peopleº
and allº
the mighty menº
[were] on his right handºº

And he cast stones at Dawid, and at all the servants of king Dawid: and all the people and all the mighty men [were] on his right hand and on his left. |

and thou manº

And thus said Shimi when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Beliyyaal: |

יָהוֶהº
hath returnedºº
uponº
thee allº
the bloodº
of the houseº
of
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,º
in whoseº
steadº
thou hast reigned;ºº
and
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath deliveredººº
the kingdomº
into the handº
of
´Avšälôm
אַבשָׁלוֹםº
thy son:º
and, behold,º
thou [art taken] in thy mischief,º
becauseº
thouº
[art] a bloodyº
man.º |
 16:8
Yahweh hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Shaul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and Yahweh hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Avshalom thy son: and, behold, thou [art taken] in thy mischief, because thou [art] a bloody man. |
 16:9 ¶

curseººº

let me go over,ºº
I pray thee,º

 16:9 ¶
Then said Avishay the son of Tzeruyah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my adon the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head. |
 16:10
And the kingº

Whatº
have I to do with you, ye sonsº

soº
let him curse,ºº
becauseº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath saidºº
unto him, Curseººº

דָּוִד.º
Whoº
shall then say,ºº
Whereforeº
hast thou doneº

And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Tzeruyah? so let him curse, because Yahweh hath said unto him, Curse Dawid. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so? |

And Dawid said to Avishay, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now [may this] Benyemini [do it]? let him alone, and let him curse; for Yahweh hath bidden him. |

It may be that Yahweh will look on mine affliction, and that Yahweh will requite me good for his cursing this day. |

And as Dawid and his men went by the way, Shimi went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. |

weary,º
and refreshedºº
themselvesº

And the king, and all the people that [were] with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there. |

And Avshalom, and all the people the men of Yisrael, came to Yerushalaim, and Achithofel with him. |

And it came to pass,º

And it came to pass, when Chushay the Arki, Dawid's friend, was come unto Avshalom, that Chushay said unto Avshalom, God save the king, God save the king. |

thy kindnessº

And Avshalom said to Chushay, [Is] this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend? |

And Chushay said unto Avshalom, Nay; but whom Yahweh, and this people, and all the men of Yisrael, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide. |

And again,º

[should I] notº
[serve] in the presenceº
of his son?º
asº
I have servedºº
in thy father'sº
presence,º
soº
will I beº
in thy presence.º |
 16:19
And again, whom should I serve? [should I] not [serve] in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence. |

counselº
among you whatº
we shall do.ºº |
 16:20 ¶
Then said Avshalom to Achithofel, Give counsel among you what we shall do. |

Goº

thy father'sº
concubines,º
whichº
he hath leftººº

thou art abhorredºº

thy father:º
then shall the handsº

 16:21
And Achithofel said unto Avshalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Yisrael shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that [are] with thee be strong. |

of the house;º

 16:22
So they spread Avshalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Avshalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Yisrael. |

And the counselº
of

אֲחִיתֹפֶל,º
whichº
he counselledºº
in thoseº
days,º
[was] asº
if a manº
had enquiredºº
at the oracleº
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים:º
soº
[was] allº
the counselº
of
´Áçî±öfel
אֲחִיתֹפֶלº
bothº
with
Däwið
דָּוִדº
andº
with
´Avšälôm
אַבשָׁלוֹם.º |
 16:23
And the counsel of Achithofel, which he counselled in those days, [was] as if a man had enquired at the oracle of Elohim: so [was] all the counsel of Achithofel both with Dawid and with Avshalom. |
