 2:1 ¶ And it came to pass,º when Yähwè יָהוֶהº would take upººº ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº into heavenº by a whirlwind,º that ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº wentººº with ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁעº fromº Gilgäl גִּלגָּל.º

 2:1 ¶ And it came to pass, when Yahweh would take up Eliyyah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Eliyyah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

 2:2 And ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº saidºº untoº ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁע,º Tarryºº here,º I pray thee;º forº Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath sentºº me toº Bê± ´Ël בֵּית־אֵל.º And ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁעº saidºº [unto him, As] Yähwè יָהוֶהº liveth,º and [as] thy soulº liveth,º I will notº leaveºº thee. So they went downºº to Bê± ´Ël בֵּית־אֵל.º

 2:2 And Eliyyah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for Yahweh hath sent me to Beth-El. And Elisha said [unto him, As] Yahweh liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Beth-El.

 2:3 And the sonsº of the prophetsº thatº [were] at Bê± ´Ël בֵּית־אֵלº came forthºº toº ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁע,º and saidºº untoº him, Knowestºº thou thatº Yähwè יָהוֶהº will take awayººº thy ´áðôn אֲדוֹןº fromºº thy headº to day?º And he said,ºº Yea,º Iº knowºº [it]; hold ye your peace.ºº

 2:3 And the sons of the prophets that [were] at Beth-El came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that Yahweh will take away thy adon from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know [it]; hold ye your peace.

 2:4 And ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº saidºº unto him, ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁע,º tarryºº here,º I pray thee;º forº Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath sentºº me to Yærîçô יְרִיחוֹ.º And he said,ºº [As] Yähwè יָהוֶהº liveth,º and [as] thy soulº liveth,º I will notº leaveºº thee. So they cameºº to Yærîçô יְרִיחוֹ.º

 2:4 And Eliyyah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for Yahweh hath sent me to Yericho. And he said, [As] Yahweh liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Yericho.

 2:5 And the sonsº of the prophetsº thatº [were] at Yærîçô יְרִיחוֹº cameºº toº ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁע,º and saidºº untoº him, Knowestºº thou thatº Yähwè יָהוֶהº will take awayººº thy ´áðôn אֲדוֹןº fromºº thy headº to day?º And he answered,ºº Yea,º Iº knowºº [it]; hold ye your peace.ºº

 2:5 And the sons of the prophets that [were] at Yericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that Yahweh will take away thy adon from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know [it]; hold ye your peace.

 2:6 And ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº saidºº unto him, Tarry,ºº I pray thee,º here;º forº Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath sentºº me to Yardën יַרדֵּן.º And he said,ºº [As] Yähwè יָהוֶהº liveth,º and [as] thy soulº liveth,º I will notº leaveºº thee. And they twoº went on.ººº

 2:6 And Eliyyah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for Yahweh hath sent me to Yarden. And he said, [As] Yahweh liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.

 2:7 And fiftyº menº of the sonsºº of the prophetsº went,ºº and stoodºº to viewºº afar off:ºº and they twoº stoodºº byº Yardën יַרדֵּן.º

 2:7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Yarden.

 2:8 And ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº tookººº his mantle,º and wrapped [it] together,ºº and smoteººº the waters,º and they were dividedºº hitherº and thither,º so that they twoº went overºº on dryº ground.º

 2:8 And Eliyyah took his mantle, and wrapped [it] together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.

 2:9 ¶ And it came to pass,º when they were gone over,ºº that ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº saidºº untoº ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁע,º Askºº whatº I shall doºº for thee, beforeº I be taken awayºº fromºº thee. And ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁעº said,ºº I pray thee,º let a doubleº portionº of thy spiritº beº uponº me.

 2:9 ¶ And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Eliyyah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

 2:10 And he said,ºº Thou hast askedºº a hard thing:ºº [nevertheless], ifº thou seeºº me [when I am] takenºº fromºº thee, it shall beº soº unto thee; but ifº not,º it shall notº beº [so].

 2:10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: [nevertheless], if thou see me [when I am] taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be [so].

 2:11 And it came to pass,º as theyº stillºº went on,ºº and talked,ºº that, behold,º [there appeared] a chariotº of fire,º and horsesº of fire,º and partedºº them bothº asunder;º and ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº went upºº by a whirlwindº into heaven.º

 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, [there appeared] a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Eliyyah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

 2:12 ¶ And ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁעº sawºº [it], and heº cried,ºº My father,º my father,º the chariotº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and the horsemenº thereof. And he sawºº him noº more:º and he took holdºº of his own clothes,º and rentºº them in twoº pieces.º

 2:12 ¶ And Elisha saw [it], and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Yisrael, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.

 2:13 He took upºº alsoº the mantleº of ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº thatº fellºº fromºº him, and went back,ºº and stoodºº byº the bankº of Yardën יַרדֵּן;º

 2:13 He took up also the mantle of Eliyyah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Yarden;

 2:14 And he tookººº the mantleº of ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº thatº fellºº fromºº him, and smoteººº the waters,º and said,ºº Whereº [is] Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּה?º and when heº alsoº had smittenººº the waters,º they partedºº hitherº and thither:º and ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁעº went over.ºº

 2:14 And he took the mantle of Eliyyah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where [is] Yahweh Elohim of Eliyyah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.

 2:15 And when the sonsº of the prophetsº whichº [were] to viewºº at Yærîçô יְרִיחוֹº sawºº him, they said,ºº The spiritº of ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּהº doth restºº onº ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁע.º And they cameºº to meetºº him, and bowedºº themselvesº to the groundº before him.

 2:15 And when the sons of the prophets which [were] to view at Yericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Eliyyah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

 2:16 ¶ And they saidºº untoº him, Beholdº now,º there beº withº thy servantsº fiftyº strongºº men;ººº let them go,ººº we pray thee,º and seekººº thy ´áðôn אֲדוֹן:º lest peradventureº the Spiritº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath taken him up,ºº and castºº him upon someº mountain,º orº into someº valley.º And he said,ºº Ye shall notº send.ºº

 2:16 ¶ And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy adon: lest peradventure the Spirit of Yahweh hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.

 2:17 And when they urgedºº him tillº he was ashamed,ºº he said,ºº Send.ºº They sentºº therefore fiftyº men;º and they soughtºº threeº days,º but foundºº him not.º

 2:17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.

 2:18 And when they came againºº toº him, (for heº tarriedºº at Yærîçô יְרִיחוֹ,)º he saidºº untoº them, Did I notº sayºº untoº you, Goººº not?º

 2:18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Yericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?

 2:19 ¶ And the menºº of the cityº saidºº untoº ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁע,º Behold,º I pray thee,º the situationº of this cityº [is] pleasant,º asº my ´áðôn אֲדוֹןº seeth:ºº but the waterº [is] naught,º and the groundº barren.ºº

 2:19 ¶ And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city [is] pleasant, as my adon seeth: but the water [is] naught, and the ground barren.

 2:20 And he said,ºº Bringºº me a newº cruse,º and putºº saltº therein.º And they broughtºº [it] toº him.

 2:20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought [it] to him.

 2:21 And he went forthºº untoº the springº of the waters,º and castºº the saltº in there,º and said,ºº Thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º I have healedºº theseº waters;º there shall notº beº from thenceºº any moreº deathº or barrenºº [land].

 2:21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith Yahweh, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren [land].

 2:22 So the watersº were healedºº untoº thisº day,º according to the sayingº of ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁעº whichº he spake.ºº

 2:22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.

 2:23 ¶ And he went upºº from thenceºº unto Bê± ´Ël בֵּית־אֵל:º and as heº was going upºº by the way,º there came forthºº littleº childrenº out ofº the city,º and mockedºº him, and saidºº unto him, Go up,ºº thou bald head;º go up,ºº thou bald head.º

 2:23 ¶ And he went up from thence unto Beth-El: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.

 2:24 And he turnedºº back,º and lookedºº on them, and cursedºº them in the nameº of Yähwè יָהוֶה.º And there came forthºº twoº she bearsº out ofº the wood,º and tareºº fortyº and twoº childrenº ofº them.

 2:24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of Yahweh. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

 2:25 And he wentººº from thenceºº toº mountº Carmel כַּרמֶל,º and from thenceºº he returnedºº to Šömrôn שֹׁמרוֹן.º

 2:25 And he went from thence to mount Karmel, and from thence he returned to Shomron.
